The food was fresh and presented beautifully. The prices are fairly reasonable and there's a wide variety of dishes in different price points. The staff was pleasant and attentive. There's a lot of room that could be used for large parties but during regular business there are booths they seat you in. They have some authentic Japanese decor and your tea comes in a teapot with tea cup not a chonky coffee mug. They have a nice lust of creative rolls I'll be going back to try.

Two rolls (don't remember names), sushi variety w/side of ginger & wasabi & what's left of the amazing marinated cucumbers!

Does the thought of raw fish make you squeamish? No worries here! #1 All of the menu items with raw fish are indicated with a bright red star, so no surprises. #2 There are over 200 choices on the menu! So glad I grabbed one as we left so I could study it for next time! We had the privilege of living in Japan several years ago. Long enough to try just about everything and some things I'd wished I hadn't! (My hubby was in his realm & I'm the squeamish one!) Sushi Sakura has done an amazing job in offering so many choices for just about any pallet. Everything is beautifully presented in typical Japanese fashion. I'm partial to Bento Boxes because of the variety in them and they're so stinkin' cute. And their Sushi ROLLS! We got the biggest kick out of the names of some of them: Miso Sexy Roll, the AK47, Godzilla Roll, just to name a few! The dining room is huge with lots of seating. The decor is a little spartan, but that is also somewhat typical Japanese. They keep things very clean, uncluttered and simple. I've got to try one of their noodle bowls next, now that it's winter!

The Independence Roll & the Shotgun roll.

This place is amazing! The service was spot on and was able to answer all of our questions. I ordered whatever saki was recommended by the chefs and they did not disappoint. 10/10 would recommend and come back for more!!!

It's pretty good for a Japanese place. The portions were massive and the bentos were pretty cheap (~$15) My katsu was soggy and flat but good regardless.

We where very happy with the sushi and service. We tried several different items. Price is about what you'd expect to pay for sushi. I'd definitely recommend them.

Dragon roll

Godzilla roll with the crunchy onions on top,, and the Dragon roll. Both rolls were delicious would come here again.

Out of all the sushi restaurants in the area, this is above all my favorite. It has a sushi tower, which is everything sushi piled into one bowl. That would be my husbands favorite. I like to eat a little bit of a Bento box and a couple rolls sushi drink some hot green tea and sit in very comfortable booths. The service is great. The people all have a smile on their face. The only thing I would change is the bathroom is so cold, but the food is absolutely delicious.

I felt bad for a minute but then he brought us to a table where the cushions were so blown out that the table was coming almost to our chins. It felt vindictive and I didn't feel bad anymore. Things got even weirder after that. We asked about happy hour and he said you have to be sitting in the bar, we asked to move there. Get to the bar and there's no bartender.......why sit us there? Bizarre. He took our drink order and mocked me for my choices. "OMG, you think whiskey tastes good with sprite? Ew" I honestly didn't know how to respond, I've never had a waiter be so weird. Then instead of making the drinks, he disappeared and didn't come back. Finally had to flag down another waiter who took our order, made the drinks and put in our food order. The food has gone downhill. My spider roll was rolled so poorly I couldn't use chopsticks. Had to use my hands and pray it wouldn't fall apart. Most of it did. Crab tasted old. Prices have also gone completely out of control. There is no happy hour to speak of, 10% off isn't worth anything. And $11 for a Sapporo?!?!?!?!? That costs less than $4 in a store. This restaurant is paying less than that. Absolutely insane. This used to be a favorite spot but we won't be back.

Our chef was super funny and super talented! Being as I made my bones in the culinary world I so enjoy watching my food being prepared in front of me! We both got hibachi for two and the entire meal was succulent and hot! Well prepared and well priced! The atmosphere is what you'd expect of a hibachi joint (I don't mind the noise as we shared tables with some nice people) Overall 10/10, would most definitely come back and would most definitely recommend to family and friends. If you ever find yourself in Kelso I most definitely recommend stopping by if you've the time!

I think there may be new owners, but nothing has changed. My daughter is not little anymore and visiting from DC, so she begged us to eat at Minami's on the way to PDX, for her trip back to the concrete jungle! The teriyaki is still delicious and the portions are generous! The plates come with a delicious, crunchy iceberg lettuce salad with a scrumptious mayo based dressing. We also got a cup of miso soup. The teriyaki is not overpowering or overwhelming, and the grilled flavor of the chicken is spot on. My husband got the almond chicken and sweet & sour chicken combo. He asked for fried rice with his combo, but they goofed and gave him white rice. They fixed the mistake with a huge plate of fried rice! That made my husband happy! It was hot and chock full of good stuff! That'll be dinner tonight! *Note: some photos were taken after we dug in, so the portion size is a lot less on the sweet and sour plate! There was a lot more food on that plate before I took a photo! Don't gloss over Minami Yeriyaki! You'll be very pleased

We always look…read morefor restaurants that have great food & generous portions (enough to take home leftovers ;) which is exactly what Max offers. He always treats his customers like they are the ONLY ones in the restaurant, even when the place is crowded...which is a lot more often these days! We met his new helper, Jacob, who is personable & engaging. He seemed genuinely happy to be there! Now for the food! Our favorites have always been New York Steak Yakisoba (w/Chicken or Shrimp) Spam Pineapple Fried Rice (AMAZING!) It has taken us a long time to try anything else because these are SO good! But last night we felt adventurous & ordered Pasta Arrabbiata & Pasta Alla Vodka. Now we have 2 more dishes to add to "Our Regulars"! We topped our evening off with an amazing dessert, Pistachio Ricotta Cake. What a delightful combination of flavors!

The owner, Max is a mad scientist! Everything on the menu is his creation or his version. From the Pepsi Cola Chicken, the Spam fried rice to the deep fried desserts are amazing. Max could probably find a way to deep fry beer. =) I even tried the teriyaki made with chicken breast; it was not dry at all. My wife and I enjoy dining at the bar; it's comfortable and welcoming. We transplanted from Kent in April and Columbia Eats is now our go-to restaurant.
