Seems like they've gotten a menu upgrade since previous reviews so I snapped new ones. Pleasantly surprised by the clean, modern interior. Service was super kind and speedy. Not everything came at once for everyone but not terribly spread out. Super fresh and great options to choose from.

This place has fantastic sushi! It took me a while to pop in, even though I live here in Astoria. I finally did and was surprised to see how high quality the sushi is here. I can't speak to the non-sushi offerings. Everything is fresh, delicious, and gorgeously prepared. Prompt and friendly service too. There is one other sushi place in Astoria (it's downtown). It doesn't even come close to the quality of this place. This is THE place for sushi on the North Coast.

Dumplings and sushi, what could be bad? Authentic and yummy, fast and attentive service, lovely presentation. Lunch cost me about $35 for dumplings, macha, and sushi. Very fair price for well executed fresh and beautiful food.

My third visit to Soon Yi and it's as delicious as ever! This time I tried their miso black cod and it was perfectly broiled, the fish was moist and flaky and was a great value for the price of the entree. The service is always so friendly and my son loved the kids miso ramen, which comes with a mochi ice cream dessert!

We stopped by for my wife's birthday. Alex & Yu Jun (Eugene) over delivered. Food was elegant, tasty & timely. Can't wait to go back. Must stop if visiting the north coast!!

The service was great. Very fast. There was hardly anyone here, which was odd. They accommodated a request for no yellow tail. The double menus was a little confusing. The price is what we were paying g ten years ago in California. And they have sushi classes for little kids! Adorable. Only issue is a lack of sweet sauce with the rolls. My wife likes the scarcity. I enjoy more.

Finally a good sushi place in Astoria! Food was great, don't normally like the miso soup, it was on point. Wasn't a huge fan of the green tea, little heavy on the matcha for my liking. Great little spot, would come back for sure next time we're in town. Also great service, Eugene answered all my questions and had some recommendations. Sorry about the photos, I was hungry :)

Seafood was fresh and everything was delicious! Shout out to our server Eugene, very attentive, friendly, and explained the dishes so well to my parents, made us feel at home. Thanks! I would highly recommend this place to everyone. For reference: we tried the toro combo, toro tuna donburi, maguro sashimi, toro dice, shoyu ramen and shrimp tempura

I CANNOT say enough about this joint. The flagship USA location, this is one of the BEST sushi spots I've ever found in my travels, and to have it located in the Goondocks is amazing. This isn't the more Americanized versions with highly sauced/breaded/fried, so don't expect to see a lot of rolls. DO expect some of the freshest tuna, friendliest staff, and value you're likely to find. To put this place into context, I visit it a couple times a month, at least, and a friend of mine when visiting for work literally ate it for 2 meals per day for almost a month. It is also worth noting that they did recently expand their menu and they now include several hot food options, including some really yummy ramen bowls.

Very good sushi and friendly staff. We got the tuna sashimi plate and we enjoyed all but one of them. The salmon sashimi was very fresh and tasty. We enjoyed the shrimp tempura roll and the tuna roll. My husband had the karaage chicken bowl and we were a little disappointed in the quantity vs price.

This spot is a fairly large open restaurant with friendly service and good sushi at an affordable price. Both the toro combo and the 'just tuna' combo were very good quality. The toro combo comes with a tuna roll, three types of tuna nigiri, and a seared tuna nigiri. The 'just tuna' combo consisted of a couple types of tuna nigiri, seared tuna nigiri, and gunkan-maki (nori wrapped around rice and chopped up tuna topped with onions and sesame seeds). The Momokawa sake was good too, with subtle hints of sweetness and fruitiness. I would definitely come here again the next time I'm in Astoria.

January sounded like a slower season for them, which showed since we were the only diners that evening. Honestly, it made the experience even more special. The waiter, who was also the bartender, was incredible. Unfortunately, we did not catch his name, but he was working on January 10th and did a fantastic job. He was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely great at what he does. On to the food. We started with the fresh baked bread and Brussels sprouts. I never thought Brussels sprouts could steal the show, but these were packed with flavor and absolutely delicious. I ordered the linguine, and my boyfriend had the filet with crab and hollandaise sauce. Both dishes were outstanding and truly next level. The vibe of the restaurant was perfect. Very chic and sophisticated, which felt ideal for celebrating an anniversary. We actually loved that it was quiet because it felt like all the attention was on us. We will definitely be back!

The service was a little awkward and slow. Which was unexpected as fewer than half the tables were occupied. It could be that they were short staffed that day. It was fine as long as you're willing to relax and enjoy the wait. We sat by the windows and had plenty of time to watch the locals and tourists come and go from the market. The place itself is nice. Very clean and even upscale. I'd definetly come back and try more things off the menu. I saw a couple get some excelent looking cokctails and a mimosa flight, which consisted of full size mimosas. :)

It was a good decision. Note for fellow travelers: their menu is small. They are a smokehouse that oh by the way has a small dining area as well, which they call the Chowder House. Small can be beautiful. Specialization has its benefits. We ordered the chowder and smoked salmon on rye. First, the chowder. It's the real deal, slightly thinner than some, but not too thin, and boy howdy delicious. Seriously, its some of the best. I would say it's up there with Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay. It does not skimp on the clams, and is chunky throughout. The smoked salmon on rye exchanges a bagel for rye toast, but keeps the rest of the traditional deli staple intact. There is cream cheese, capers, red onion, and, of course, the salmon. (I don't know where smoked raw salmon ends and nova lox begins. They seem to be the same.) This is where we begin to understand those benefits of specialization. It was simply the best I've had. It was well smoked and tasted fabulous with the rye. If you have passed this place by for years as well, stop it, and stop by. It's good stuff. They also ship their smoked salmon.
