Zero services, not even a courtesy check on to refill water. The server gave us our orders and never came back. The girl at the counter didn't know what it means to smile to her customers. Unpleasant and short in her response. The food was not fresh due to low turnover inventory, but it makes sense when you don't think customer service matters- at least the vegetables were fresh, since they can't keep old vegetables. And, nothing came out hot, everything was luke warm. They closed the bathrooms, claiming it wasn't working and did not offered us another location. They spoke in Vietnamese regarding us not ordering anything yet, not sure if that's why they chained off the bathroom and not let us used it. They opened the chain when there were more customers. I hate to imagine if we were the only ones there, do we get to use the bathroom even if we were paid customers. They didn't realize that Oregon's A‑2 occupancy rules required at least ONE functional bathroom. I took video. There is no incentive to give customer service since they add 20% for service fees for group over 6 (or 5)..let this sink in a bit. Whether or not they provide service, they get 20% regardless. Our bill total was $375. If you come here expecting anything, don't! the meats tasted like freezer burn due to low turnover and the service doesn't exist. I came from a family that had a restaurant, we know that the customers are the backbone of a successful business, good food + good services = loyalist. We didn't leave because we had a large group to coordinate and we didn't want our 95yo mom to be hungry. We drove four hours to OR for a family get together to celebrate her birthday. Considering this is Oregon and a small town; we were shocked to see pho at such a high price. As Vietnamese from SoCal, we knew what we were eating and really wanted to support our people. Negatives: -prices were outside of our budget for what we got. Positives: -the one dish we got was banh tam and it was tasty, though it was 22. -location size was very large and can easily fit large crowds. The decor had viet elements a lot of nautical themes. Overall 4/5 I really wanted to come back again on our last night in Astoria. However, the prices discouraged us and we decided to contribute to a different local spot that was more affordable. In the end my wife convinced me to help contribute to more than just one restaurant. We loved our stay in Astoria and will definitely give this place another try again on our next trip. read more

TL;DR - Great food and a super unique vibe, but the service was rough on my visit. If the kitchen keeps doing its thing and the service smooths out, this could easily be a regular spot when I'm in town. I stopped by Pho Mekha, and the first thing you notice is the decor. You can tell the owner put a lot of thought into it--there's a mix of Buddha statues, a motorcycle, photos of American Indians, pictures of Astoria, and more, all over the walls. It's eclectic in a way that actually works, and definitely not your typical pho restaurant. For atmosphere and environment, I'd give it a solid 4/5. When I arrived, the place was about 70% full, but I was seated almost immediately, which was nice. Unfortunately, the service went downhill from there. They seemed understaffed, and while I was able to place my order within 5-10 minutes, the waitress was noticeably impatient. She wouldn't let me order an appetizer first and insisted on doing everything at once. Mid-order, she walked away to grab her tablet without saying a word, which was... awkward. Because of that, the service gets a 2/5. Parking is easy enough--street parking with plenty of spaces around, so no complaints there. Now, the food absolutely saved the experience. I ordered the caramelized chicken wings and the bun bo hue. The wings had a strong, mouthwatering fish-sauce aroma but weren't overly salty. The bun bo hue was citrusy, spicy, and packed with flavor. Neither dish disappointed, and honestly, the food deserves a 5/5. Overall, I'm giving Pho Mekha a 4/5, mainly because the food and atmosphere are strong enough to outweigh the service issues. I'm hoping the service hiccup was just a one-time thing--if it improves, this place would be an easy recommendation. read more

We were paid customers. When sat down and waited to order. One of our family member needed to use the restroom, the server was rude, refused to let them use the restroom. Told us the restroom was out of service。but change tune and said restroom is for paid customers only. If the bathroom was out of order. They broke §1686. Toilet facilities required law. I ordered Pork patty, grilled pork, rice noodles, mixed herbs. Very disappointed with the pork. It was stale/freezer dried and dry. My partner had pho with meatballs. Again, meat balls was freezer dried. Very disappointed, after I read Yelps reviews with high rating. I would only give this a 2 stars. The server was rude. Most Vietnamese or Pho restaurants I've been in have plain décor--just your standard café-style atmosphere. But people frequent those places to eat pho and don't care as much about the number of statues or paintings and aren't as picky about the service. That was the great thing about Pho Mekha. It's not your usual Pho restaurant; this place has some style. I loved the atmosphere. All the unique décor actually added to my dining experience. In addition, the staff was friendly and attentive. And, of course, the pho was fantastic. Big bowl, great broth, even b4 adding fresh basil and sprouts. Some of the best pho I've ever had. As a bonus, it's centrally located to many hotels, restaurants, and bars, and so, it's easy to find. Disappointing. My wife had the pho, which she liked. I thought it was okay. I ordered the coconut curry. It was bland. We also had fresh rolls with "peanut sauce". The sauce tasted like hoisin sauce, not like peanut sauce and we did not like it. The service was good and the waiter was nice. I liked the casual decor. The food tasted blanded back for American taste. there were no Asian people in the restaurant when we were there, just Americans. After years of working in the Seattle Metro area, which is flush with great Asian restaurants, I retired here in Astoria. As much as I adore nearly everything in Astoria, it is sadly lacking great Asian options. Especially pho. Until now. I've been anxious to try out this new restaurant. I'm a purist, so it's beef pho with all the trimmings (tendon, tripe, flank) and a plate of lime wedge/jalapeno slices/bean sprouts. #36 on the menu is the ticket! As I was seated they politely brought out a pitcher of cool cucumber water (with a cucumber, yes). The pho did not disappoint! Fantastic broth, as good as my favorite back in Seattle! Yay! Noodles perfectly cooked. Yummy tendon and generous amounts of tripe. Absent from the table was chile paste and fish sauce, but the hoisin and 'cock sauce' (sri racha) was there. Prices were a little high; so that kept me from being adventurous and trying the wings or the spring rolls. And the special Vietnamese drinks were really expensive so I stuck with water. The food was very good. I very much liked my pho, and I think my mom liked her noodle dish as well. The ambiance or the music and the decor was very nice also. There was an interesting light at each table that depicted a different scene something I had never seen in any other restaurant. Beautiful place! The decor is eclectic and very well tied together. The potstickers were decent, but Coco Curry has better ones. Their Coconut Curry dish was good, but the Turmeric Noodles were a huge disappointment. It had a mix of intriguing ingredients like jicama and peanuts, but the broth was so bland l had to add the sauce they put on the table which ended up being too sweet. All of their drinks are way over-priced. I'm giving it three stars mainly for the ambience. I've also had the pho here and it's not the best and certainly not the cheapest. I also had to add some spice to it. If you're used to pho places in the city, you might want to pass this place up. They won't come close to what you're used to. Having pho in other cities around the world, I found this restaurant version was as good, and better than most! The decor and ambience is joyful yet subdued. Not only was the service lovely, the food was excellent! You walk into this restaurant and immediately it feels warm and cozy. The ambiance is fresh and relaxing with a nice vibe.
