Ok, we ADORE this place. Fabulous teriyaki. The Chicken Thigh plate is one of my favorites. And an accidental favorite, the pork fried rice that we accidently received (instead of Pork Teriyaki) when we called in an order (remember to speak succinctly and distinctly, ordering the way the menu describes it), anyway this pork fried rice is unlike any other we've had, delicious chunks of pork, veggies, bit of whole fried egg, YUMMMM, we get it every time now. If you go in for sit-down, try the bento box. They really do it right. You might have to wait a bit, but its wonderful and executed delightfully. To-go is served in earth-friendly boxes; but they'll put it in a plastic bag unless you bring your own. Serving portions are a bit on the small side, prices a bit higher than typical. But the quality is worth it to us. Admittedly, havent tried much of the sushi selection here apart from whats included in the bento box. The owner/operator is gracious and friendly. This might have been the worst sushi rolls I have ever had. 7 of us came in on a Saturday and none of us were happy with the qualify of the food. That include a variety of sushi rolls and noodle/rice dishes. If you are visting Oregon, specifically the coastal area of Astoria, Warrenton or Seaside. Take a visit to Tokyo Teriyaki for lunch. The have a large Japanese food menu from ramen, bento boxes, tempura, teriyaki or yakisoba. On my visit I went twice during the week, I had the chicken and shrimp bowl which came w rice, slices of marinaded teriyaki chicken, grilled shrimp and steamed veggies. It was really good. Not salty. For the price, it's definitely worth it. Also had an order of mixed tempura. Tempura sauce was very good and again not salty. Solid!!! The second time I went I had ramen and again really good. Broth was flavorful, not salty, good fresh veggies with slices of meat and good noodles. Thnx Tokyo Teriyaki for being very friendly and cooking great food. We were lucky enough to try this restaurant on another day and loved it! The food was great and the service was super awesome with kind people working. However, we came in on Wednesday 11/12 and we were met with a really rude person at the cashier. The cashier glared at us when we walked in like we weren't supposed to be here and when we finally figured out our order, they were really rude and rushed us along. We tried to order a large teapot to share and when I reviewed my order I noticed there was just a medium teapot listed so I asked if they didn't have the large teapot and they informed me that they don't sell large teapots despite it being right there on the menu and we were able to order it last time no problem. The service was really nasty and they barked at us when we tried to order drinks that we needed to finish our food order first. It's really unfortunate because we enjoyed coming here for yummy affordable sushi but we did not have a good experience. The staff member wasn't wearing a name tag or I would provide their name here so that the business is aware of the service they are providing to their customers. Hopefully this location will be able to continue serving the community but we are not sure we will be returning as it wasn't welcoming at all. read more

We stopped in here for a quick lunch in Astoria and had a great meal! We went with the daikon radish sushi, avocado roll and cucumber roll. This place is okay. The fried rice is good however when I am in the mood for sushi and willing to $PEND money--and order donburi with Frozen yellowtail and maguro--disappointment sets in. The salmon tastes fresh. However when I bit into the maguro it was hard. I don't know what else to say except it will be quite some time before I spend money on sushi at this joint. I'm sorry. I understand inflation hits however never sacrifice on quality. There are consumers willing to pay $ but once quality is negatively affected --one can lose customers. Good luck. read more

I must admit, Ive driven by this place day after day and I have always felt a curiosity to try it. Welp I finally did, and I found my new local favorite. While they do offer an extensive sushi menu, their specialty lies within the Yakisoba plates and Teriyaki style dishes. The fried tofu that was cooked with my Yakisoba complimented it soooo well. This place is just ok and nothing special. The teriyaki sauce is right out of a bottle, if it is not, then it is very low quality. Some of the chicken was chewy, could have been over cooked or old. Could have been grilled and reheated. Bottom line it did not taste right. Rice was not warm. Looks like a small family business, I would recommend you cook your food at the same time or just before you serve it. This may be hard to do because of your extensive menu items. This place is insanely good! I wish I had taken pictures, but honestly we were really hungry and weren't expecting this place to be so darn great. Do not let the unassuming picnic table out front or minimal decor inside dissuade you from eating here. It was amazing! We ordered two sushi rolls (Spider roll and California roll), and both were phenomenal. One of us had a pork teriyaki plate with steamed rice, while the other had beef teriyaki with fried rice. The teriyaki was good, but the fried rice was excellent! We both took home leftovers, not because we didn't enjoy it, but because there was so much food! Also, Tokyo Teriyaki is taking great measures to deal with COVID - in fact, they have erected wooden barriers between the tables inside. I came in with some personal sadness and frustration after having a hard time and the man at the counter was so kind, and helpful. Just that alone was enough not even tried the food yet. My experience there was unfortunately lacking. I ordered the chicken katsu which came recommended, and it had some big issues. The chicken was cooked ok, but it had no discernable seasoning. It came with teriyaki sauce on the side, which was cold and clearly came from a bottle. I'm fairly certain the overcooked vegetables on the side were from a frozen package, and again had no discernable seasoning. The service was fine. read more

Wonderful little spot for sushi! Not a lot of seating so our party split between tables. Service isn't super super fast as they are short handed but it didn't take a long time at all. Very friendly staff! A little underrated and unassuming, but worth a stop. The food was very good and portions were very generous especially the sushi. My only complaint was from my husband who said the chicken was a little chewy, and that they didn't have yum yum sauce. And the steamed dumplings were a little soft. Going with a full 5 stars because they were very accommodating of the diet requirements of the group. We had so much fun I forgot to take pictures. Unexpectedly great teriyaki in downtown Astoria! We each had the teriyaki chicken breast bowl, and the portions were great, chicken was seasoned and cooked well (moist and no 'gross' bits) and the teriyaki sauce was delicious. Veggies were cooked perfectly, soft but not mushy. My only regret is not asking for extra sauce, but honestly they put enough in the bowl that it wasn't lacking without more. The only regret I have from our trip into Tokyo Terryaki was getting 2 sushi rolls and shrimp Yaki Udon ! Way too much too eat because I didn't get much help with the sushi. The only complaint I would have is the Yaki Udon didn't seem to have much for flavor...could have been from a lack of sauce or something ? Honestly couldn't say what caused it. Friend from Japan and I jokingly stopped by to see if the chef was authentic. Not only was he from Japan, the friendly girl from Peru at the counter spoke fluent Japanese. We decided to dine there and totally enjoyed our experience. My friend from Japan had the sashimi combo and I ordered the chicken teriyaki combo with shrimp roll. Listen, I love this place. I will continue to eat here. This review is not to shame this business or their food whatsoever. I fully understand the issue that is pressing against all small businesses right now. Understaffing and high demand. That being said, something needs to change with their management skills and front of house. I called in to place an order, as one does when they anticipate a long wait time. He puts me on hold, totally fine. 10 minutes go by on hold and then the phone HANGS UP. So, I call back. Goes straight to voicemail. I call 3 more times and no one ever answers. I drive down there, because I am committed to getting my delicious food. I get there and of course it's packed. I get up to the counter and wait my turn behind a nice couple (nice raiders shirt btw). The front of the house takes 5 phone orders since standing there. I get up there, I start to order and he leaves. Again, I understand understaffing 100%. I place my order when he comes back and have to wait 40 minutes. 40. For an order that I should have gotten 20 minutes ago. This review is for the owners. Please, keep in mind that you have many customers wanting your delicious food. Placing them on hold for 10 minutes, hanging up and still making them wait 40 minutes is not good business. Granted, I didn't say anything to the nice guy at the counter because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, or ultimately ruin someone's day. I work. I know how hard it is. Why????? Why put boiled cabbage and carrots with teriyaki??? Why not just a simple salad with an Asian dressing? Teriyaki tasted as if cooked in a batch then reheated with a sugary sauce placed on top. Does not seem grilled fresh to order which makes for timely service but takes away from taste. This is where we stopped for a late lunch while driving through Astoria (on our journey from Seattle to Cannon Beach, taking the coastal route). The food was really quite good, but I wish there had been a salad instead of cooked vegetables with my teriyaki. It was a liiiiiittle pricy, but you get a big ol' plate of food. While we were dining, 3 interesting things happened: 1) A woman came over to us and commented on how AMAZING our food looked, she was impressed by our ordering skills. It was surprising and nice. 2) The owner of the nearby comic book shop (he was eating with his family) called in a favor to give a little boy a free action figure doll. It was really sweet and cute to overhear. 3) Somebody who worked here invited us to a private party. That sounds creepy. It wasn't creepy, it was sweet and nice. I think Tokyo Teriyaki is a place where nice people gather. Perhaps you should go just to see what nice things will happen to you! read more

I had always wanted to stop in and see what it was all about. Since moving up here , and the work I found / rent etc... I don't eat out a ton, but when I do I do it with gusto. I finally got a day off and bagged a croquet set and a new iPhone .... Feeling good I fancied to pig out. As I knew I was coming up to this mystery joint , I felt a pang of adventurism and yanked the wheel hard over left and hopped out like speed racer ( in the rain) and walked in. Finally , I thought, here we go. The waiter instantly came over and got me seated. Top notch. LoTR fan I'm sure as he wore the one ring to rule them all. I ordered a lunch special and a black tea. He went out of his way to make sure I had milk to go with my tea( for me a must )and he even asked if I had lived in Britain as per the way I take my tea so seriously. I credit my old boss as my Anglophile mentor, and he taught me all I know about a proper cuppa. Very sharp waiter, I felt very good about coming in. And just a general really pleasant sort of guy. I felt very welcomed, not that surly redneck sort of " why are ya botherin' me " attitude that if I ever get I will blacklist a joint in a snap. 2 stars right there! The plate was brilliant, a few veg(nice helping of carrot/ broccoli& cabbage) tons of teriyaki chicken, two great dollops of rice( another must for me) and some fantastic crispy golden pork gyoza on top as the crowning jewel. Of course I LOVE spicy so I was very happy to find at hand some Sriracha and oh let's not forget the wi-fi which helped a ton as I needed it to relaunch all my old apps into my new phone. The in house music... Great playlist or station. Some places drown you in sad or weakly chosen styles, I had a blast : Bowie , talking heads, Zeppelin, Beatles , etc... I was in heaven . I cleaned the plates and drained my milky/ sugary cuppa tea and admitted that I work in a local hotel ( next to Safeway) And that I'm wanting some menus to give out to guests because I would recommend this place to my family and friends with no hesitation. This place is horrible. We stayed at a hotel very close hoping to find some filling and inexpensive food that we could get to go. We thought that a teriyaki place would be predictable and delicious, as most are. We ordered tofu teriyaki. When I opened my Styrofoam container, I found tofu that was battered and fried (I have never seen tofu breaded and fried like that, most places just fry the tofu as is), there was one piece of broccoli, and two pieces of carrots, all atop a single cup of white rice. The sauce was gross and clearly came out of a bottle. I picked out the tofu and just had the rice and overcooked vegetables. I am mostly disappointed that I paid $8.50 for a meal that made me and my partner sick the next day. Go somewhere else if you want to pay for food. I wish I would have put that $8.50 (plus tip) towards some pizza or a burger from a better restaurant read more

I used to live in Astoria 15 years ago, came back to visit, stopped in and was pretty wowed by how dynamic and full this place was, yet, the wait wasn't long at all, the customer service was pretty excellent (plenty of smiles and friendliness), and the food was kicking.
