Wine maple salmon and crackers. It's what's for dinner.
    Terry G.

Picked up two fabulous flavors of smoked salmon, sat down with some crackers and called it dinner. Just delicious. I had the coho plain smoked and Karen had the wine maple. Just clean and subtle -- not fishy at all, for those concerned about that. You also can eat a variety of salmon presentations in-house. Proud to support a local, fourth-generation family owned enterprise.

The retail counter area is in your face when you open the door. As I was trying to decide, they offered some yummy samples. Prices are, well, high. The prices in the cooler are per pound, not package. I knew this but was still in sticker shock handing over my credit card. Anyway, they have a whole bunch of local sauces/chutneys/condiments that make great gifts. Love to support local. I got some smoked pepper salmon and a nice chunk of smoked sturgeon - the fellow helping me commented "oooohhhhh, thats good" and I shared that my wife had landed a sturgeon once but it was ONE INCH too long and had to be put back. He smiled and said "what, you've never heard of the snub-nosed sturgeon?" God I cracked up...so did my wife when I told her. Anyway, you're not going to find better tasting smoked seafood anywhere, just open your wallet. I tipped my helper $5 for the great service and humor. Merry Christmas!

What a phenomenal spot with a ton of history! My partner found this place on our road trip and I'm so glad she did. With 100 years of history, Josephson's is *the* place for your smoked fish needs. They were happy to give us samples which is a rarity this day and age. I got to try their maple wine smoked salmon and it was so good I had to buy a package to take home. They also have a phenomenal lox bagel! Unlike NYC, where the bagel is the focus, this place focuses on the salmon, and I'm so happy they did. I got the cold smoked salmon lox for my bagel and it was to die for. Staff was extremely friendly as well. Highly recommend visiting!

Clam Chowder hands down very very delicious!!! They also sell smoked salmon, oysters and scallops. We threw in some of the smoked oysters in the chowder... it was to die for! We also used the smoke salmon in eggs similar to omelette as our omelette making skills are not up to par. It was delicious, smoky salmon with a little bit of sweetness to it too. We also did that with the smoked oysters, it was good but my favorites got to be the smoked oysters in the chowder. Very friendly place and delicious products. You need to go....

    Lovely place.

This smoked fish place near the waterfront in lovely Astoria is just what you're looking for: rows of delicious smoked fishes and a small quiet place to sample some, complete with blueberries and a lemon wedge. We loved the wine maple smoked salmon. I really like their historic building as well. We make sure to stop here every time we come up this coast to Seattle.

Highly recommend for top of the line smoked fish and an intimate lunch experience. After picking up some canned smoked goods, we had a delicious cream cheese and lox bagel with some of the BEST chowder in town. Great conversation and service as well! Looking forward to returning. Thank you!

Downstairs is an open kitchen with a few tables in the front room. I do think that if they didnt have a big communal table, they could rearrange the tables to get a few more for extra service. Upstairs is a bar and a few more tables. They also sell some nice restaurant branded merchandise. There is a chalkboard menu on the wall with daily specials and market prices. I ordered the Salad with Dungeness Crab. I loved the freshness and all the combined flavors. My husband had the fresh fish tacos and they were very fresh and full of fresh cooked fish. The clam chowder was a little weak in flavor and lacking clams so I would probably skip it next time. The fish and chips is their signature dish and everyone was ordering it. This place is definitely a dining gem!

She did not return to check if we needed anything after the food was served. No! This place was…read morereally disappointing. Came here based on reviews, but I. would caution anyone to steer clear of this place. It started with flat champagne drinks. That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria. Because we were driving through on our road trip, we decided to make a stop here for a late lunch this last Tuesday afternoon, around 2:15 pm. After we parked, we walked inside and headed towards the salad bar/ hot bar food area. After looking around (there is also a counter that you can order made to order sandwiches and burritos), I ended up deciding to purchase the following: Peanut Chicken Sesame Noodle Salad, $8.99- This was quite a massive portion so I only ended up eating about 1/3 of it and then had the rest over the next few days (I ended up mixing it with some chopped cucumbers and tomatoes that I had to make a large salad). I loved the peanut sesame dressing and noodles in this salad but wished there was more chicken. Mayak Egg Noodle Bowl, $8.99- My husband picked this salad for himself but I didn't have any. He thought it was good and appreciated something fresh, as his bowl had shredded cabbage, like my salad, and cucumbers and shredded carrots. Pumpkin Pie, $6.99- My husband saw this small pumpkin pie and decided to get it because he is such a big fan of it. I actually don't like pumpkin as much as when I was much younger. But I did like this pie and thought the flavors were well balanced, not too overly sweet. ---------------------------------------- (Total= $24.97) I really appreciated that the little dining area (there is also an outdoor dining area as well but because it had rained previously, we opted to sit inside) had plastic bowls and plates available for you to put your food in. This was helpful for me to be able to thoroughly mix my noodle salad since the dressing was mostly on the bottom. Then after I mixed it, I just put it back in the plastic container and only left about 1/3 of the salad in my bowl to eat. If I lived in this area, I would definitely be a regularly of this market (specifically for the prepared food area).
