Everything was so tasty, but we all agreed that the tempura fried House roll was our hands-down favorite, so we ordered one more of those for good measure. My sister was in town and she loves sushi, the owner of Gen Sushi privately messaged me to give them another try since my first visit wasn't the best visit! We were greeted immediately and sat down, we ordered the house roll, shogo roll, * I can't remember the last roll, whoops*, spicy wontons, Thai ice tea and Apple Soju. The gentlemen working was very kind, and warned us that the soju is high ABV lol, which we had a bad week so we wanted a high ABV! Our rolls came out before our appetizer, but nonetheless the food was great. We decided to go out for some sushi this last Monday evening after some Pickleball and it was absolutely phenomenal. The ambience outside on their outdoor seating area was super cool, the moment we walked in it was pretty packed even for a Monday evening, which is definitely a good sign. Once seated, service was excellent and very quick. This is never happened to me before, but we actually got treated with some free chicken, gyoza dumplings that were so delicious, they had such a great ginger sauce on them and it was such a treat to get gifted these from the restaurant. Don't know if they made extra or what, but that was so unique and kind for them to treat them to us that I will definitely be recommending all my friends and family to come back. We sat out on the patio area which was a comfortable, cute, and clean space. Inside it seems a little more tight as the inside is pretty small, so I would recommend the outdoor seating. All staff was kind, helpful, and efficient. The sushi rolls were all pretty average, but good. I forgot to take a photo of the calamari before we started eating it so you get much more than that on the plate. Calamari was fine as were the long bao. This is in reply to the business owners response. I tried the restaurant 7 months ago and they're just now leaving a reply to my 3 star review. I'm glad they cater to the demographic in their area, I guess. That's very telling actually. Lol. I'm glad they pay their workers fairly, etc. but that doesn't address actual health hazards (room temp sushi or fruit flies) nor does it address watered down alcoholic beverages. Do better. Don't sweep things under the rug. I shared feedback. Kind of only have two options. 1) Fix the issues and don't bother replying.; 2) Or receive the feedback and say you're going to make it a priority to step up your game. Rambling about fancy spots vs not isn't the point. You don't have to be fancy to serve bomb sushi/dishes. I wasn't judging it as fine dining. Everyone in the greater Vancouver area raves about this spot and I find it mediocre (as I've eaten sushi my entire life and lived in predominantly Asian areas for a good 30+ years). I've heard a lot about Gen Sushi but never had the time to make my way there or just forgot. Today I finally got the chance to try it and it did not disappoint. I've been trying sushi within the area and this is my favorite restaurant so far. As soon as we stepped in around 4pm on a Saturday, we were greeted and seated right away. We only ordered sushi, but they have many other options for those not a fan of sushi. Honestly, I'm use to waiting for sushi to be made when a restaurant has multiple types of food on the menu, but we got our sushi made around 5 minutes. And everything was so fresh!! Amazed by the time and super happy with the food lol The service is great. Each person that stopped by our table were super nice and efficient. I would say we got seated, ordered, received our food, ate and checked out under 25 minutes. My partner and I love dining in restaurants, but we also love when we can be in and out. This isn't very common in non-conveyor belt restaurants. The restaurant itself is Japanese themed and feels authentic. It's a smaller restaurant but they have a covered patio to seat more guests. Very good quality sushi and definitely the best in North county. All of the rolls are spectacular. Also, love the soup dumplings and gyoza. Their homemade fruit teas are super refreshing. Dinner rush is busy every night of the week, so expect a wait for a table. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because service is also fairly slow; had to wave a server down to ask about a drink, then later for more napkins and finally for some boxes and the check. To be honest the menu is worth the slow service. Family friendly environment, and not too loud. Definitely recommend this Battle Ground gem. read more

I really like this place. I got an offer to go on a Saturday night. I got like four rolls and they were delicious and huge. They were also very fresh. The total was $55.96 for all 4 rolls. I looked at my bank account the next day and noticed I was charged $68.96 and I was like WTH. I called them the next day for and explanation. The lady told me they got my bill confused with another bill. She said she would give me a $20.00 credit next time I come in. I told her No!!! I wanted my cash back as I am not too sure if I will be back or not. She said she would have to talk with her boss. A couple hours later the boss man called and said I can come back and get the cash back. And he even gave a couple extra dollars as they could not just credit my cash back on my debit card and I had to drive back to the restaurant. He was really nice. Rode here Thursday on my Harley. Been a few years since i have been in this town. 1st time here to eat and i was blown away. Huge pieces of hamachi and huge unagi. Clearly, the owner cares about his restaurant, is engaged, sets a positive tone for his servers, ensures the whole experience is great, and their sushi is spectacular! They can be a bit crowded at peak times, but that is because they are such a popular, great place. If you like sushi, ramen, and saki, you won't go wrong here. We've always come away happy, and tip their staff accordingly! Such a refreshing experience compared to so many of the restaurants in the Southwest Washington and Portland with their rude, entitled staff and ridiculous prices. I am writing this review because I just had sushi somewhere else. Gen sushi has been my go to whenever I'm home but I travel a lot so every once in a while I'll have sushi elsewhere. Yesterday I got some sushi in Hawaii and it was good but I was somewhat disappointed. That's when it dawned on me that Gen Sushi is THAT good. It competes with truly traditional Japanese restaurants and I can't seem to find something even close to the level of quality you find there. It is frustratingly good!!! I'm upset for even have found it because it ruined sushi for me and I can't get some the same quality and service anywhere else.
