Hamachi nigiri and Aloha roll
Andilee J.

Great option in north county for sushi. Fresh and lots of options. I like the yellow tail hamachi nigiri and the Aloha Roll. Great customer service if you dine in. Clean, quaint restaurant, and family friendly.

This spot has take out and I was craving sushi. So we decided to call and make sure they were able to do vegetarian takeout. We enjoyed the variety of rolls and the miso soup, but was very disappointed in the customer service. The lady on the phone was very rude and she was very difficult to understand. Same with in person. She was snippy and not very helpful. Food was great but the customer service was not.

This place can get super busy between dine in and take out orders but they always surprise me with how fast they are! Not only fast but so delicious! Not the most adventurous sushi eater but there are still so many options.

Delicious! We would have NEVER stopped here and we are so thankful we did. Our new Friday night must. The volcano is my favorite. Miso, spicy tuna & salmon, the list goes on.

First of all, my wife and I are both very into sushi, so we look for everything like service, price, cleanliness, etc... plus is the sushi rice cooked well, fresh nori, freshness of fish, and execution of the sushi. Service: It wasn't the worst service we've ever had but very far from the best. I had to deduct a star for our experience. Atmosphere: It's nothing special, feels like a sushi bar crammed into a strip mall. Price: overpriced for what you get in comparison to other local sushi joints based on quality. Quantity they did good, but their quality more than hurts that. Food: Execution of the rolls were horrible! Worst I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, they came out to us looking delicious and pretty, but literally every roll fell apart before it got into my mouth. The rice was undercooked and flavorless, the fish was definitely not fresh. There was a fishiness that came out of most of our rolls. Would we return: No... Unless they swear it was an off night for them. My wife and I had high hopes this place would provide decent sushi without us having to go too far. Very disappointing.

We now have two sushi places in town... nothing bad about the others but they don't offer simple rolls like I like. Toro does. I'll be back!

I've been trying sushi within the area and this is my favorite restaurant so far. As soon as we stepped in around 4pm on a Saturday, we were greeted and seated right away. We only ordered sushi, but they have many other options for those not a fan of sushi. Honestly, I'm use to waiting for sushi to be made when a restaurant has multiple types of food on the menu, but we got our sushi made around 5 minutes. And everything was so fresh!! Amazed by the time and super happy with the food lol The service is great. Each person that stopped by our table were super nice and efficient. I would say we got seated, ordered, received our food, ate and checked out under 25 minutes. My partner and I love dining in restaurants, but we also love when we can be in and out. This isn't very common in non-conveyor belt restaurants. The restaurant itself is Japanese themed and feels authentic. It's a smaller restaurant but they have a covered patio to seat more guests. Overall, I was super impressed and can see why their ratings are so high. I hope to be back soon.

We were greeted immediately and sat down, we ordered the house roll, shogo roll, * I can't remember the last roll, whoops*, spicy wontons, Thai ice tea and Apple Soju. The gentlemen working was very kind, and warned us that the soju is high ABV lol, which we had a bad week so we wanted a high ABV! Our rolls came out before our appetizer, but nonetheless the food was great. Service was much better than before, although we did not receive a check in to see how the food is or if we needed anything else. Everyone even said goodbye when we left, which is always appreciated. I appreciate the owner taking pride in their establishment and trying to make things right. I'll be back

There was only one patron there who was just about to leave. She was having a conversation with the owner who is a nice Asian man. I got the large egg flour soup and the teriyaki chicken yakisoba noodles to do. $22.00 total. I got home and the food looked delicious. As I got into scarfing down the noodles I notice a stale taste and it was the chicken. It's like they had a piece of chicken already cooked from days ago, there it on the grill or microwave to warm it up, cut it up and put it on top of the noodles. I did like the broccoli and cabbage they put in the yakisoba noodles but the sliced carrots seem to be stale too. I tried the egg drop soup and it had a funky taste like a fishy flavor to it. Maybe it was a bad day or maybe this is how they serve their food thete. Not too sure if this would be my first choice for lunch or not.

Small little joint about nine tables total and none were full on this day. A lot of take-out orders so that is probably all that is needed. I got the sesame chicken which had wayyy too much salt in it I had been wanting to drink more water but on this way. Haha. The veggie wraps were great, I would definitely order those again. I would probably drop back by here again and order something else as it was a well-loved place.

I greatly enjoyed all the rolls that we tried: Spicy Plus roll, Devil roll, Salmon Lover roll, and Dragon roll. I think the Devil roll was my favorite because of how the flavors harmonized together and the shrimp tempura inside had a nice crunch. The rice in all the rolls was well made and the sauces drizzled on top were incredibly delicious. The fish tasted and felt fresh texture-wise too. The teriyaki chicken udon was the only letdown in the whole experience, although I'm not sure what I was expecting... teriyaki sauce in a broth doesn't make sense I guess so that's on me for getting it. Chicken was just standard grilled chicken breast, no additional flavor, no teriyaki. The udon noodles were light and chewy. The broth was light and soy saucey. I probably would get a plain udon next time.

The Godzilla roll definitely lives up to its name, it's huge. I'm not usually someone who prefers fried sushi, but this one was actually pretty good: crispy on the outside, flavorful, and filling enough to share. I was also pleasantly surprised by the mango roll. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but the sweetness worked really well and made it feel lighter and more refreshing than I anticipated. The White Tiger roll was another favorite! yummy, well-balanced, and easy to enjoy. One small thing I wish they did differently is I would love to see separate servings of ginger for each roll. Sometimes when you order multiple rolls, the ginger gets squished into one tiny container and split between three rolls, which isn't ideal if you like to cleanse your palate between bites. Also wish they had more raw options than just crab options. Overall, the sushi is good, portions are generous, and it's a comfortable place to sit down and enjoy a meal. A solid option if you're in Vancouver and in the mood for a quick bite of sushi.

The downtown places can be hit-or-miss so we thought we'd try something new. We stumbled upon Hokkaido on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Greeted immediately, friendly staff, nice ambiance, no complaints there. 4-stars simply comes from the lack of a bar. Good sushi deserves a good martini. That part was super disappointing for me. The Tempura Veggies, Tempura Shrimp, and Sushi was all lovely. Freshly cooked / prepared and served promptly. Price was on-point and the overall experience was great. We'd be regulars if they had a full bar. If you live nearby and can tolerate dinner without a martini, give Hokkaido a try - it's worth it!

The shrimp croquettes were my favorite item of the night. And I concur with another Yelper that the Chicken Katsu was excellent, and also good portion to price. The Miso cod on special was tasty, but, small. We also ordered eel nigiri, one of the special hand rolls, and yummy sliced duck. Our experience ended with a somewhat unmemorable flan.
