Have to update my review. This afternoon The Wife and I decided to try our favorite conveyor sushi in Vancouver. We walked in and noticed that no one looked familiar except maybe one sushi chef. The conveyor was organized with didn't rolls grouped together with a little sign. We took two seats at the conveyor and started into some California rolls as a warm up. As we plowed through a few plates we were starting to look at each other, something wasn't quite right. We love good conveyor sushi and usually this place is our top pick, it's just usually fresher and bigger than other places, but today, and recently, some of plates that used to have four rolls have three now, the rainbow rolls didn't look as vibrant in color. The taste was just flat, not bad, but different, it wasn't up to the usual Sushi Tsunami standards, and hasn't been the last few times. I have a feeling they have changed hands. It was a Tsunami of mediocrity. Plus side was the service was still good and the amount of rolls on the conveyor was plentiful. Handicapped parking was great and the servers offered to let us sit where ever we wanted so I would be comfortable. Props for that. I hope that someone from here reads this and tries to get the standards and quality back to where it was before, because this place was head and shoulders above the rest, now it's about the same. read more

Came here for Sushi since my favorite place Mio Sushi is closed Sunday's. Very small, un-sushi restaurant feel, more manufactured feeling. The menu was one page, one sided. When we asked if they had a kids menu, she said "our portions are so small it'll be the perfect size for a kid" uhm that's definitely not a selling point. Not going to pay $11.50 for a Bento if I won't be full. We all just decided to try somewhere else. The food did not look appetizing. read more

Green tea from a tea bag, not so happy with teabags. Squid salad is good. Big clean new space. Too big of a space for the chef, not enough customer space. Sitting space ok but leg room a little cramped but has good chairs. Tried two 5 dollar rolls and both were worth the money. It's in the texture, taste, and presentation that makes it worth the bucks. The rest of the sushi was good but nothing to write Yoki about. It's a new place, nice with good food but a sushi track. We'll keep this on my list when I'm in the area. read more

We were there during a busy time and it was basically empty. This should have clued us in but we were hungry and not familiar with Vancouver. Not much nigiri and what there was in size was pretty small compared to other places that have sushi go rounds. The prices for some of the other dishes were ridiculous as well. 4.00 or more?? Variety did not exist. Just same dishes over and over again. Fish not fresh but "fishy"... We grabbed a few plates, ate and quickly got out of there in case we ran into any issues later on and needed to be close to the bathroom. Thankfully that did not happen. read more

Best conveyor belt sushi in Vancouver, bar none! I have been to most of the conveyor belt locals in Vancouver and have hit a few in Portland as well. If you like Sushi Hanna, then don't come here...you'll never go back to Sushi Hanna again. Sushi Tsunami is a regular stop for me for lunch about once per week. And as Q.T. stated in their review, the portions of fish are large enough to cover the rice. If you go for lunch plan on arriving just before noon or close to 1 o'-clock, if you arrive during the noon hour you may be waiting. It is well worth the wait, but be warned if you are on a time crunch. Personally, I believe the food to be fresher and served in larger portions than the other places around Vancouver...there is a reason those other places have $1 lunches...yuck! They have adjusted their prices, however I have not seen anything on the belt over $3.50. The one time I saw them pull out a higher priced plate was when I ordered a double order of Unagi and they put it all on one plate. Large portions of Unagi, too. As far as pulling sushi out of the freezer, it is recommended by the FDA that all fish served raw be frozen for various lengths of time depending on how cold the freezer is to destroy parasites...that almost every fish have. While soda isn't the traditional drink of choice with sushi, they serve it up in large glasses with free refills. Be sure to read the menu and ask for something if you don't see it. They have several items that don't appear on the belt and aren't on the menu, but are normal fare you would expect to find in an establishment such as this. I have to watch it here, because I can easily stuff myself and I don't like to do that. When I do, I'm just at about $20. It is kind of hard to spot, but it is across from Fred Meyer and next to a tire shop...just South of Burger King (yuck!). read more

I go here often, so I am not remotely impartial on this. These guys do a great job. This is clearly the best sushi train I've ever been to. Staff is friendly, rolls, nigiri, and hand rolls are creative, and the price is reasonable. i've taken my kids here and they loved it. My wife wouldn't, but she's not a sushi geek like me. I can get a great quality 10 plate lunch here for $21-$28, or less if I've had breakfast. read more

This might be a 3.5 really but a 3 will do for now. I have been here 3 times now and always leave fairly happy for not too much money. Its one of those sushi-go-round places where the small plates pass you bye. If you have rotator cuff issues, be sure you sit facing the right direction so you don't have to keep whipping your head around. Lots of basic sushi for to $2-3. The stuffed mushrooms were delish. The last time seemed to offer fewer options than previously. The house tea was dreadful and barely hot and they're not generous with the water. But all in all, I like this place. Not too small or big, usually a booth open to sit. Lots of menu items may be ordered separately. Usually parking spots open in the small lot but dang if I can ever see the place from the street. read more

Sushi Tsunami was formerly listed under a different name Sushi UMI. I went there last night for dinner. Sushi Tsunami is one of those Sushi Bars that has the conveyor belt that snakes all the way around the restaurant. The sushi is pre-made and placed on color coded plates with plastic see through dome lids. As the belt brings it buy you merely pick up the one you want. Each color has it's own price $1 to $3.50. I prefer a traditional Sushi Bar so I ended up ordering my sushi from one of the sushi chefs. They were very hospitable and eager to engage in conversation. Everything I ordered was excellent. They feature an extensive array of Rolls and a very appealing menu of traditional Japanese foods. Their beer selection could stand to be expanded. They only had Asahi in the tall bottles. The hot sake was great. I saw what appeared to be many regulars who knew the staff and visa versa. That's always a good sign for a Sushi Bar imo. The prices are the lowest I have ever encountered anywhere. I will be going back soon. read more

This place used to be pretty good when it opened. But every time I've been here lately it's been sad. Tonight was the last time. I spent $45 on... The blandest plainest sushi ever. Which was great for the kids. Me? I left starving and footing the bill haha. There was nothing going around. Sushi Tsunami, how I love thee. Your wait staff is much more attentive than typical conveyor belt sushi wait staff. Your chefs are so kind and accommodating. Your restaurant is bright, clean and attractive. I've always loved the food here - it's fresh, there's a lot to choose from, and there's a great selection of specialty orders to choose from. I would highly recommend trying their dragon roll. One of the best around! read more

The first time we went it was awesome! Absolutely fell in love with the place and the idea of the sushi bar. Then we came again and everything began to spiral downward. 1.) The service is terrible. I mean I get it you don't want to serve us but if I pay almost 2 bucks for a soda I want more than 1. It's your job! Don't act like your so inconvenienced by me. 2.) Unless you order off the menu(which is difficult again because the service is terrible) it's always the same stuff!! I get tired of california rolls i mean come on! 3.) There is NO happy hour :( Most places at least have a happy hour where it's $1.50-$2 plates but not this place..your always paying the same and it's overpriced. Don't bother. Why? Because they only give you 3 pieces that are TINY and expect the customer to be satisfied. This place used to at least give you 4 pieces. Look at the menu and you'll find that they've covered up the "4th piece" they used to serve. I find the staff very standoffish and cold. Specifically, there is one woman who wears glasses that literally purses her lips and never smiles. I feel like I'm getting ripped off when I come here. So I've decided that although it takes me another 5 minutes, I'd rather drive north a few exits and have sushi up in Salmon Creek. That other establishment also has an amazing happy hour menu. Seriously, I want this place to be around. But they need to stop skimping on the size and amount of sushi they give their customers. And they also need to work on customer service. A smile goes a long way. A few years back it wasn't like this. I don't know if these changes I'm talking about are due to the economy, but if this continues I doubt this place will succeed. read more

This is our West Side of Vancouver sushi-go-round of choice, but we're sure there's better out here somewhere. It's always reasonably good, a little pricey for what you get, and the selection on the conveyor is usually pretty thin. Still, if you do special orders, they get them to you quickly, and they're usually pretty well-put-together. If the place is quiet, the service is usually good, but if it's busy, then be glad if the waitress comes by to refill your water. The cooks are good about getting special orders out in a reasonable amount of time, and they have some tasty and unique special rolls they have created, but if we're going to be special ordering our sushi we'd rather go someplace where they focus on that instead of their weak belt selection. It's good for catching up with a friend over sushi for lunch, it's good for dropping in for a quick bite, but to get the better dishes you're ordering the expensive plates and it adds up fast. We don't mind coming here, but at the same time, we don't ever make a special trip to come here, either. read more

This place uses the conveyor belt to transport the various dishes of sushi. Recently, they jacked the prices up to $2.00-$6.00, so it's no longer one of the cheaper places to get sushi in town. The sushi is good and you can order other dishes like teriyaki chicken or even have a bento box with tempura. They do allow phone-in take out, which is really nice. read more

Just moved to this area of town and needed to nail down where we would go for yummy sushi. I think we've found it. :) Sushi Tsunami has tasty sushi and a friendly staff. Best place for sushi I have ever found! I have checked out most of the sushi restaurants in vancouver and even a few in Portland and I have to say that although I found alot of good ones I always come back to Sushi Tsunami. I go there once a week for sushi but I would go there every other day if I could. The best time to stop in is a little after lunch time so you don't have to wait in line, but sometimes I go there for dinner and it is just as good. The service there is great! Everyone is very nice and helpful. The chefs will make anything you request if you want something that is not on the conveyor belt at the moment. They are also very knowledgable about what they are making and can tell you all the ingredients in each dish and answer questions about how healthy each dish is. The color coded plates and menu are extremely easy to understand and after a few visits I didn't even need to check anymore. The prices are good and if I eat til I am full I usually spend about $25.00, which is an okay price considering how good everything is. Some of the best rolls they have are unagi, philly, and the crunch rolls, but my personal favorite is the dragons!! *Five stars* read more

Easily the best sushi in Vancouver. Simple classics and interesting chef concoctions, they are consistently putting out delicious plates for any appetite and wallet. I bring sushi aficionados and hesitant noobs alike and they all leave happy. I've never had any issues with the service. For a sushi go-round in Vancouver, this is great. I was concerned about the freshness and found I didn't have anything to worry about. Their quality is top drawer whenever you come in. I brought my parents here for a celebration dinner and they proclaimed it better than pricier places in Portland. My fave - their asparagus roll. This is a rice roll with asparagus and cream cheese inside..you have hit a tiny place of sushi heaven. They have the common as well as exotic - deep fried "American" things like egg rolls and potstickers as well as the custom hand-roll and octopus. They don't have much of a demand for jellyfish, so they don't carry it. However, they do have a variety of roe. Very kind and polite staff who are quite versed in English and American customs. We've had the pleasure of going back to this location a few extra times after my first review. I'm confused about the smell that some people seem to point out. They are either powerful sniffers or are just mad at their lives...there is no overwhelming scent to speak of. Maybe if you're sensitive to seafood smells? I guess that could explain it...you're going into a sushi establishment, be prepared for a bit of a kitchen meets ocean smell? When you're done, the cashier will come to you and count your plates. Giving you a tally of which plate colors you have chowed down on. Typical to every other sushi belt. The service is always fast and friendly, no lurking around because it's essentially a place you serve yourself unless you make a special order, which I cannot speak to. Sushi trains specialize in cheap rolls, less than stellar cuts of fish and love spicy mayo because it covers the cheaper ingredients. It's fast-food sushi, remember that when you venture into one of these places. Adjust your expectations, it doesn't mean that it's going to be as cheap as going to Taco Bell for your taco fix but a reasonable person knows that. I stumbled on this place entirely by accident; I just recently upgraded the OS on my phone, and hadn't yet restored yelp on it. So here I am in Vancouver, taking care of a couple of errands, starting to get hungry, and with no yelp to guide my path. I happened to look across the street from the Fred Meyer's, and decided to take my chances. I ordered the bulgogi that was on special, and pulled a dragon roll off the conveyor while I waited for it. Both were delicious, and the staff was courteous. The only item that I found lacking was the pickled ginger: it tasted slightly flat. It certainly wasn't a deal breaker, though. I suppose I'm being AR to dock a star for the ginger, but there it is. I will certainly eat here again, and I would recommend it to others. read more

Dear Vancouver, Where have you been hiding this gem? Next to an arms store... well have to say was grand. Sat down and started to pull our plates, and racking up the cost. Two of us dined in and And ate until our bellies were full! Our total bill.....18 and change! Plate prices are 1.50-4.00 So just be careful on your food choices. Octopus ! Who knew it taste great, let alone compliments cucumber so well. As I contemplated my choice; as each dish fallows the track around the restaurant . I spot an interesting picture on a sideways menu. " octopus salad", with out hesitation " excuse me, I'd like to give the salad a try". 2 minutes later I'm chewing on a delicate and flavorful cucumber and octopus salad. I like this place, but I'm pretty easy to please with sushi. Its a conveyor sushi place so the service isn't really an issue. I have noticed they put out more variety than other conveyor sushi spots i've been to. Prices are inexpensive... I had four plates and a coke for ten bucks. Staff is all nice and attentive without being annoying. For what it is, this place does a pretty good job. 3/15/2014 edit: have been to a couple other sushi places and been back here twice . its just not quite as good as the other spot on 99...Im adjusting the review to three stars read more

Tried Sushi Tsunami today for lunch and had an OK experience. It was decidedly uncrowded as my friend and I were the only patrons (which did make me a little nervous at first). The sushi tasted good and seemed freshly made, and I appreciated the accurate placement of items behind the description cards on the belt. That ingredients were listed was nice, too. The restaurant was spacious and seemed clean, and staff was attentive. Though again, that wasn't hard given how slow it was. I'd give four stars, but I took one off for the pricing. The quality was probably on par with other conveyor sushi joints, but the pricing was much higher. Typically we spend around $20 for three people and a child at other places, and here we spent over that for just two people. read more

My 5 year old granddaughter just loves this place. She eats anything we put in front of her and it really is a healthy meal too. This is where I want my birthday meals out of all the places I could go! They have more than just sushi, so my husband has plenty to select from that isn't raw fish. Ok let me start off by saying I'm an avid sushi eater and love to have sushi at least 2 times a week so trying sushi tsunami for the first time was very exciting and I had high hopes. I was let down, my regular sushi bars have great prices for all plates that satisfy everyone. But here at tsunami I noticed there prices are doubled of sushi Hana and sushi land. And not much choice of the belt to pick from. The only thing they get right here at sushi tsunami is their name it really is a tsunami disaster of prices and choices. I've been looking for a good sushi place for a long time. I'm somewhat of a novice, but I have still been mostly disappointed with most "conveyor belt" places. One of my friends recommended this place and I finally went for my birthday. While my wife waited in the car I ordered $30 worth of everything I was craving. I took it home and had my fill with a nice cold bottle of Momokawa Pearl and was more impressed with every bite! Nothing mushy, all super fresh and a grand bit of presentation made it a great choice. Half star. We wanted to try sushi closer to home and decided to give Sushi Tsunami a try. The calamari was decent but everything else was horrible and tasteless. Honestly, I have had better sushi at asian buffets. Even the fake crab was of poor quality. They make it far more complicated than it needs to be with several colors of plates and all of them are highly overpriced. One thing that really annoyed me was that every roll on a plate came in odd numbers of three. Common sense tells you that people don't normally dine alone and like to share their food, so why not put 4 pieces on the plate to make it equal? You charge so much for it anyway. Needless to say we cut our stay short and went somewhere else. That somewhere else was Sushi Chiyo and the difference was like night and day. Their quality, selection AND prices were so much better! Sushi Tsunami delivers a pretty typical belt type sushi experience. A series of mostly roll type sushi doused in spicy mayo passes by, and every now and again you get a salmon or tuna nigiri. We tried all of the above, and the nigiri were better than average conveyor type sushi in my opinion. Rolls were maybe a little subpar, but I won't hold it against them as I knew better. We also ordered a mixed sashimi plate which was a bargain at $10.50 (versus a typical $18 or so). The sashimi was fresh and tasty. Overall the service was so so nice, and it's not a hassle to get here so I could see another trip back, but let's say it's not really the kind of place you would go out of your way to get to. read more

Three and a half very strong stars for this conveyor belt style sushi buffet. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the open raw bar style chefs are very nice. The price is easy to deal with at this place if you lake the time to look at the menu for a minute. I tend to go nuts at this place and try and eat as many tasty treats as i can force feed myself because it tastes great. The most money ive spent on food at this place was 22 bucks and i was really trying to stuff myself with the most expensive things i could find although the cheaper things were just as good. I could easily have a nice lunch or dinner from 8-10 dollars and that beats making it at home any day. You can order anything youd like from the raw bar chefs or the servers and its always tasty. The rolls are always presented nicely and never falling apart. I suggest the spicy tuna cone and the sweet tofu sushi. The only down fall to the variety of their selection is the repetitive use of the crab stuffing and how most of them are california rolls with a twist. Im not doubting that they stay fresh and turn over faster that way, its just that vancouver lacks the adventure eaters portland posseses. I dive into the oddities from the sea with great pleasure sucking down scallop, squid, giant clam, and eel, along with raw fish dipped in soy sauce, but if your looking for foodie grade sushi this is not the place. Its a reliably good place to eat with fresh ingredients and good rice. If your in a hurry or feel like enjoying your time while sipping asian beer i recommend it for any age, even teeny tiny kids like it. read more

This is probably the best conveyor belt sushi in Vancouver. Most of the customers are regulars, and at the risk of sounding racist - most of the staff is NOT mexican(japanese/korean/asian?) as opposed to mexican's working at the other conveyor belt sushi places. Rather odd.. My wife and I eat their once a week. You have to get their before 6:30, that's when it gets crowded. Not much point in showing up after about 7:30 pm. They are open until 9, but after that point, you pretty much have to order stuff, the belt choices get pretty slim. It's conveyor belt sushi, it is what it is, but it is the best conveyor belt sushi in all of Vancouver! read more
