We love good conveyor sushi and usually this place is our top pick, it's just usually fresher and bigger than other places, but today, and recently, some of plates that used to have four rolls have three now, the rainbow rolls didn't look as vibrant in color. The taste was just flat, not bad, but different, it wasn't up to the usual Sushi Tsunami standards, and hasn't been the last few times. I have a feeling they have changed hands. It was a Tsunami of mediocrity. Plus side was the service was still good and the amount of rolls on the conveyor was plentiful. Handicapped parking was great and the servers offered to let us sit where ever we wanted so I would be comfortable. Props for that. When we asked if they had a kids menu, she said "our portions are so small it'll be the perfect size for a kid" uhm that's definitely not a selling point. She was helping out around the restaurant doing all kinds of tasks so we appreciate the consistent attentiveness despite how busy she was. FOOD: We tried a number of rolls. I'm a salmon fan so I went for all their salmon options which were all fresh and sushi was cold which is a huge thing for us since some places have their fish out so long it gets warm. They had peppered seared tuna which we don't often see that tasted pretty good! There are some fried options as well including takoyaki which was not bad either and I got it fresh so it was still hot. They also have a menu from which you can order which has a number of options. Ordered some masago sushi from their menu which was small but packed, seasoned well and again cold which made it all the better for eating. Sakura is hibachi style, where they make your food in front of you. Our chef got our attention with oiling and firing the grill. He didn't again so I could get a picture, as I was busy chatting with friends when he got started! We were served a salad that didn't look very exciting but had the most delicious sesame dressing on it. Yum! Next came miso soup. It was pretty standard-tasting. And it wasn't just the usual rolls and nigri, although some classics were there, newer reimagined rolls were available. The restuarant had a couple more grills going, but still not busy by industry standards. Finally got the bill and they've added a $42 tip, for a "large" group. 5 people is not a large group, especially considering their grills seat 12 people and they always clump different groups together. I could understand if they were having to push tables together and it was taking a server's entire section up, but that's not how this place operates. When I inquired about where it's posted that this is standard practice, I was only showed the bill, which we had to ask for twice before seeing it. I normally tip 15-20% depending on quality of service; however, forcing a tip on me becuase there's 5 of us is theft. 1 of our group didn't even order a meal. We won't be going back to be robbed again. Edit - After calling and speaking with the so called manager, I was told that the automatic gratuity is standard and there's no one above her that I could speak with no matter where or who I called. No corporate, no owner, just her. She also told me that they were short staffed on this particular evening, which is more grounds to not expect $42 tip, when service is lacking due to lack of staff. I've worked in this industry for 30 years. I know how much staff rely on tips, but this isn't the way. I may have left a $50 tip, if it was earned, but not when it's forced and especially not when it's forced and not earned. Manager told me they'd refund half my tip and I wasn't welcome back. Bye
