Looking for an AYCE sushi location but on a budget?! Sushi Masa has a great variety for about $22 per person at a lunch price. You can also order from dinner menu during lunch and pay the higher price. The sushi was fresh. Our waiter was very attentive and we didn't have to wait very long. The price include drinks with refills (non alcoholic). Plenty of seating space and very clean atmosphere. We loved everything we ordered and can't wait to go back. Our overall favorite roll is the red dragon. The smoked salmon nigiri (sushi) is delicious as well! We didn't save room for dessert, but next time we will. Service was generally all right, but food was challenging. I ordered a seaweed salad, and it was brought on a huge plate...a small bowl would have been more convenient. Rather than get "all you can eat", my partner and I decided to each get a sushi roll. The first issue was that, instead of the small round soy sauce bowls most places provide, this place had small, narrow, rectangular bowls, presumably for soy sauce (no one gave us any idea how to deal with their food presentation). When our two separate orders of sushi rolls arrived, they were placed together on a huge bamboo "boat", that took up much of the table. It was extremely awkward for each of us to get to. We also worried about how this "boat", which holds several configurations of raw fish, can possibly be properly cleaned and sanitized between patrons. We saw no way...it was huge, and the sushi was placed directly on the bamboo "floor" of the large boat. When I finally found a way of getting my roll out of the large boat and onto a small plate on the table, I ran into another problem...dipping each piece of sushi into the soy sauce and wasabi mixture I like to dunk the sushi in. The pieces of sushi were huge, and it was difficult to even get the chop sticks around a single piece. Since my sushi was filled with very lightly compressed "crab", it easily fell apart when even slightly moved. Dipping it into the small narrow soy sauce dish was literally impossible, as the dish was narrower than each sushi piece. It made a huge mess, with the so-called crab mixture falling all over, outside the bowl, and the sushi completely falling apart. I finally decided I had to try to cut each very large piece of sushi into pieces that would fit into the soy sauce bowl. To be clear, the pieces were not unusually thick, only very very large in circumference...almost like a water glass bottom size. I am not a sushi novice, and have no issues eating normal-sized sushi pieces. The sushi was poorly compressed, and very easily fell apart. It was adequate in taste, but not that good. The main interest in this place seems to be the "all you can eat" menu, which also states that you will be charged for anything you order and don't eat. It became clear that large tables of patrons were preferable to the wait staff, and it was difficult getting drink refills, ordering desert, or our bill. We found this place generally a waste of time and money, and will always try to return to Edoko, which we think is the best sushi place in the area. read more

An all-you-can-eat sushi spot that newly opened! The seating area is very large and can easily fit large groups if needed. It's not a buffet style and everything is freshly made as you order. We went for lunch and it was $21.95 per person but you can opt in for the dinner price ($34.95) if you want sashimi. I was surprised at the quality of the sushi being an ayce. They also don't put crazy amount of rice in their nigiris which is a HUGE plus. It does take time for them to make them when it got busy so make sure to order consistently! Sushi Masa has been around since 2010 but the DFW location is new. I was really excited for a new AYCE sushi spot in the area as I have not seen many since moving here from Chicago, and the few DFW ones I have seen are lack luster in my experience. Upon entry, the restaurant is notably clean, well decorated, and welcoming. I will start by saying the quality of the sushi here is VERY good ESPECIALLY for an AYCE; however, many of the specialty roll options are either fried or have a lot of spicy salmon or crab which are not as impressive as a fresh piece of fish in my opinion. All in all, the food was good, I would just like more raw fish specialty rolls. Unfortunately, the service brings the score down substantially. First of all, our server was not very friendly/customer service oriented. The experience was very "check a box" esque. First, we ordered a beer and a wine to find out that the beer we ordered was out of stock. This normally would not be an issue; however, after asking for 3-4 other options that were listed on the menu and being told they were out of stock of ALL of our choices, we had to directly ask "what aren't you sold out of?" As someone with industry experience, I would have provided this information before having the customer run through all their preferences and individually shutting them down. After finding a beer that was available, the drinks were delivered, and we had to ask for a glass for the beer after delivery. Again, not normally an issue; however, we were brought a glass with ice in it. Never have I ever received a glass for beer with ice in it! We brushed it off and poured the ice into our water. Next, our food gets delivered and after a few bites we notice 2 hairs in one of the rolls. The server walked past us a solid 5 times before noticing us flagging him down to share our concern. He was able to bring a manager over who acknowledged the issue, apologized, and confirmed it would be brought to the head chef. While grateful for the immediate action, this was another strike on the experience. The final concern with the service was when we asked our server to confirm that we received the samurai roll which we had ordered as none of the rolls we received had asparagus in them as notated on the menu. He proceeded to point at the roll that was the samurai roll on our table and said "oh, maybe the kitchen ran out of asparagus". The lack of courtesy, no accountability to check with the kitchen directly, and to just shrug it off was the tip of the iceberg. I try not to complain much as I know mistakes happen, but for $35/person, I expect a better experience. As a whole, if you are looking to eat a lot of good quality sushi, it's a great option, but if you are also looking for great service to accompany it, you may experience a lot of hiccups along the way. read more

I found out about this place through Yelp, so I decided to try it. It's located in the proximity of Willow Bend Mall after you turn right on W Park Blvd. They have AYCE and also ala carte. It's $35 per person for AYCE and it includes beverages and 1st round of alcohol drink(I believe). It's different from most AYCE place as I was looking for food station for me to pile onto a plate, but I didn't see anything. It has a sushi bar tho. The server explained to me that she has to bring the food and I place an order with her. They have Pepsi product and they were out of regular tea(sweet and unsweetened), so I got green tea with glass of ice instead. I give this place 4 stars, bc food was good except when ordering Sashimi, you have to order like 8 pieces each else they will be very small amount. Next time, I think I will order ala carte, so I can order what I want. The place was packed when I got here and waited 20 minutes or so and ambiance is nice and our server who looked like actress Jamie Chung(?)was friendly and attentive. When I heard of a new AYCE sushi, I was really excited. There's a grand waiting area, and the decors are beautiful. Our server is great, but she was overwhelmed. She only had 3 tables of 2-4 people that I can see, but she was running around. You have the option to order a la carte or to do the AYCE. We did the AYCE option. I loved the fact that they have sashimi, but I felt I was disappointed by the items on the menu. The fish were terrible quality and had a weird taste to them. After trying all of them, the only ones that we found were edible were salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, and white tuna. We tried some rolls which again you have to look at what fish they use because some fishes we had from our sashimi were so bad we did not want it in our sushi roll. Part of what makes a good sushi roll is how well it holds together. The ones that we got completely fell apart when we tried to grab it. What was not working is that you have to order the items that you want with your server, so it's not a self-serve. In addition, each order were tiny portions, which I would recommend to start with because we soon realized we did not like most items, but ordering small portions each time created way more work for the waitress. Some items she had to run into the kitchen to grab. She was so busy she forgot that we asked for a refill on our drink and for more ginger, but it worked out because we were ready to leave. What worked out is when the kitchen staff bring out the dishes, they took away the empty plates (which in mind I think it's a lot of dishes since it's small orders everytime). If you are waiting for your waitress, you literally have to wait for them. The other waiters will not help you. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be back to this location. I've tried Osaka, Japan House, Yellowtail AYCE restaurants in town, and I think this one ranks at the bottom for me in terms of quality/variety of the food read more

Ok had lunch there today, the all u can eat sounded to good to be true. Here's how they get you, any rice you leave over is scrutinzed. The fish is medium grade at best . The problem is they put so much rice under the fish that you can't eat many items because the rice fills you up. And they charge you if you leave any. Also I had 4 pieces of a small roll and I asked if I can take them with me and the server said no. She made me eat one more piece to avoid the charge. They threw the rest away instead of letting me take it. Total waste of food. It was 3 little roll pieces. I won't be back. I was lured by Sushi Masa's all you can eat lunch option currently priced at $21.95 On a weekday close to noon I was able to find parking and having asked for a booth had to wait less than 15 minutes to be seated. The staff were polite and attentive. The waitress taking orders patiently answered any questions and other staff brought out the dishes in an unpredictable but timely fashion. Empty plates were cleared promptly. Refills never waited. It was comfortable, well lit, not too crowded, and not too noisy. Having planned and psyched myself for the visit for a day and not eaten anything yet today, I found enough appetite to order in total ice tea with refills, miso soup, two appetizers (4 piece shumai and 2 piece harumaki), one hand roll (crawfish), 8 pieces of nigiri (3 fish eggs, 3 salmon, 1 white tuna, 1 shrimp), and two rolls (8 pieces each of I-10 roll and Shaggy Dog roll). A few other categories were on offer that I didn't try this trip including tempura, noodles, and fried rice. As Sushi Masa doesn't state a time limit or order limit, I kept each order small to avoid waste--and they do warn of an upcharge for waste as most anywhere does. Still, my entire visit was barely an hour so this worked out great. For the amount I ordered, the value of the all you can eat was better than the lunch specials including the $15.95 for 3 rolls special. But for take out options, that price also seemed reasonable. Per dish, I found the appetizers tasty but on the smaller side which was great for my visit but would have been disappointing if I had paid for them a la cart. The sushi pieces are medium size with an average amount of rice so the rice didn't seem like filler as all you can eat options often do. Both the rice and fish tasted fresh but the cut lacked the texture of more expensive sushi. The rolls were medium sized and came 8 pieces per roll. Take care not to over order here as this is where it would be easy to do. For sushi selection, most of the rolls had a mix of kani (fake crabstick) and rice with guest appearances by eel, cucumber, fish, and spicy mayo. The full menu is on the website so take a look before you go. For my personal taste, I was disappointed that there was no yellowtail on the lunch all you can eat (though a yellowtail scallion roll is listed on the a la cart lunch specials menu). There's also nothing too eccentric like octopus or lobster to be found. For me, the selection was adequate. Note that the dinner menu has more sushi selection and a higher price. For dessert, I asked for green tea and strawberry ice cream which was smooth and perfect--better than at the other sushi buffets in town. I enjoyed this and my ice tea to finish up. I can't really justify spending so much on lunch often but I think the value is pretty good for what it is so I may return for special occasions or when I'm really craving sushi. I will probably not risk the weekend crowd, though. read more
