I got the chef special, salmon belly. I asked for additional roe topping. The salmon belly was delicious. It was perfectly cooked. It was tender and juicy, absolutely melt in your mouth juicy. I was expecting a small piece of salmon belly, but it was a generous portion. I'll definitely reorder this next time. I also ordered the grilled salmon plate, which came with a much smaller piece of salmon. I was surprised the salmon portion was so small compared to the salmon belly and mackerel plate. The salmon did taste great at least. My bf got pork katsu and he liked it. I tried the katsu and it was good. My bf thinks the curry sauce was good, but not as good as Coco's. This was our second time visiting for a date dinner and I found it better than the first. Partner and I shared a gyoza appetizer and I got Katsu Don while partner got a set plate. The gyoza was decent. I like my gyoza more like noodle texture, so this was a bit crispy for me, but I enjoyed how strong the sauce was. My Katsu Don was a good value for money and tasted overall decent. Partner enjoyed his set plate very much. I find this a decent place to get Katsu. I went for a dinner date with a friend and we started off with fried shishito pepper as our appetizer, then the sashimi assortment deluxe 5 kinds and chicken katsudon. We were very happy and satisfied with everything we ordered! The fried shishito pepper did not have a strong seasoning but the fried and touch of salt taste was just perfect, the chicken katsudon wasn't any special but just good and the sashimi was SUPER DUPER fresh and yummy!! I was honestly trying not to make a review on this place until i was able to come back but the food was so good ! I got a mackerel set meal, a banana cherry cocktail, and a yuzu highball . The service was amazing, it was one lady doing 4 tables and she was very efficient and polite. She also made the delicious cocktails ! The ambiance was warm, relaxing and had good background music that wasn't overwhelming. The food and the drinks were so good, and it was literally 30 minutes before they closed ! They ran the place like they weren't closing at all and we got to try some smoked tuna with cucumber (it was delicious‍). A gem in Plano! Eating this Pork Katsu plate and the Chicken Katsu Curry felt like my husband and I were back in Sunshine City eating at our favorite katsu place in Japan. Very authentic Japanese restaurant nestled within a quiet shopping complex. They are known for their curries and katsu, which they excel in. We usually order the katsu-ni curry, which is a fried pork cutlet cooked in egg, the katsu curry, or the katsu don, which is a fried pork cutlet over seasoned rice. It's the best tonkatsu and curry I've had in DFW. Part of what makes it great is they use high quality Berkshire pork that is juicy with a good balance of fat. The Jiro-style ramen is also really good. Very hearty and flavorful. The interior here feels like you're in Japan and the staff is actually Japanese which is great. They currently give free soft serve ice cream for kids which is a big plus. We eat here a lot but never get sick of it because it's always a great experience. read more

I heard how this place had the best tonkatsu so I went to give it a try. I think I made a mistake when I ordered the egg with the tonkatsu since it kinda drowned out the flavor of the pork. Shokudo literally translates to "eating hall", which to me means food hall - which I can totally feel the vibe when I walk in - and that's not a bad thing! Authentic flavors and freshness are always a top notch here. I feel like this is an excellent place to get several small things so you can sample many different flavor profiles in one sitting. Tried this place out a few days ago since we were shopping in the area. The ambiance is nice and makes you feel like you're in Japan. The food is amazing. I was very impressed by their Katsu Curry and they make their own curry as well. Sometimes it can be a bit too sweet for my liking but I feel like theirs has a good balance and you can pick the spice level. The katsu was well fried and super tasty. The teriyaki chicken is ok, quite basic but not bad. The katsu is what you should go for here. We also got a shrimp tempura roll which was pretty good. They even serve Cream Soda here (a Japanese classic)! The restaurant had lots of cute decor. I especially liked reading what others wrote on the Japanese fortune tree as I waited to be seated. I really hate giving this place a bad review because I want to support my local Japanese businesses but the food is just not... good. I got a spicy miso ramen for takeout (asked to have it brought back to me) and the soup had absolutely zero spice and zero miso in it. The portion was also very small in my opinion for how much the cost is. This was my first time trying the ramen here and the broth was too thin all while being overly oily (I know it's ramen but it's still way greasier than any other ramen I've ever had - and I've had a LOT of ramen), and salty. There's lots of choices here and I recommend the spicy miso. Ramen noodles are nice, al dente and slight bite to them! Egg is jammy but a bit cold sometimes. Chasu is delicious. I'm pretty easy to please but have some gripes about my meal. First, I was a bit underwhelmed with sushi options. Second, I found two bones in my salmon filet and that ruined my appetite. Third, the cleaning solution used (I think) on the floors causes the whole restaurant to have a faint funky cleaner smell. If you can look beyond this, the restaurant itself is pretty cutely decorated and well done. My husband really enjoyed his ramen bowl. I was bummed there weren't more vegetarian options since I would have loved a vegetarian or vegan ramen bowl, which plenty of other restaurants offer. We will probably not be back. The karaage was honestly one of the best karaage I've had in a while, it wasn't oily or extremely crunchy like most - it was the right amount of crisp and fried. The dipping sauce was also not overly mayo-y which was a plus. Having the karaage first, I knew the katsu would be amazing and it WAS!!!! Oh boy, the katsu curry was so delicious this is now my go to for katsu!! My mouth is watering thinking about it. The sushi was priced just right and the salmon tasted so buttery and good. i really think their best + most worth is items are anything katsu. we decided to branch out a little bit from our usual orders... but we were a bit disappointed. the sushi bowl mainly has the sushi at the very top and lots of rice. also its mainly sushi rice, which means a wetter consistency. thats the traditional Japanese way, but not something im a fan of, so if you arent either, i wouldn't recommend this dish the ramen was pretty standard. its just a pretty small portion for the price. personally i recommend the chicken ramen from the preston rd location of yama. that one is amazing! perfect yolky egg w large meat pieces. read more

I felt like I was back in Japan again when I ate here. The food was incredibly good and fresh, having a feel of "home" that I rarely taste in similar restaurants. The entire restaurant's interior was unique and had a lot of space, and I loved seeing the classic plastic sample dishes outside at the front. I had been wanting to try this place for awhile. It looks cute, but the food is not it. When we entered it smelled like sewage. I do not know if it is what they clean with or what. My kids and I looked at each other and I knew we were thinking the same thing. We ordered a variety of food. The ramen was not it. Did not taste that great or like places that specialize in ramen. We also ordered some of the sushi. Again, not great. Actually tasted worse than grocery store sushi. I think the fish was not fresh. The avocado in the rolls was brown as well. My salmon roll's salmon was chewy and grossed me out so much. Salmon is literally my favorite, but only when it is fresh and melts in your mouth. The tempura was good, but how can you even go wrong with frying vegetables? I wouldn't go back for the tempura alone. If you don't live close, save yourself the trip. The food was not the best and we have better Japanese restaurants in the DFW area. I will say, none of us got food poisoning. read more

The spicy miso ramen was the highlight--very balanced with a great level of spice, and all the ingredients came together nicely. However, the deluxe Tonkatsu ramen felt unbalanced. The broth was extremely rich with fats, and despite the presence of vegetables, it was a very carnivorous and heavy dish. The nami combo was a good deal. The miso ramen in the combo lacked flavor, but the nigiris were good-the fish was smooth, buttery, and melted on the tongue. The interior was beautiful with cute Japanese decor (like the Godzilla) adding to the atmosphere. The lady who served us was very nice too. Overall, I'd rate it a 3.5 if I could. This place is amazeballs and has truly authentic Japanese cuisine because a) all the employees speak Japanese, b) you have those fake plastic food displays enshrined in glass cases outside, c) there are telltale Japanese instruction diagrams-artwork, d) the food is great and features menu items you simply can't find anywhere else, and e) there is a Japanese broadcast of a Dodgers game plus Pokemon playing on TV screens in the back. Impressively good Teishoku, Katsu, and soba in a large, well-designed space with perfect service and an authentic experience. Some places bait you with IG worthy pictures of the ambiance, but Tokyo Shokudo was truly huge and beautiful with dedicated Japanese cubbies that felt cozy and themed with cute cartoon/anime posters with recommendations on how to eat your food. The salmon sashimi was delicious, fresh, and wonderful as an appetizer, although a little bit thick would be my only critique. The katsu curry was some of the best I've ever had, with a great kick, massive portion size, and perfect pairing. The tomato sauce like consistency of the curry was very similar to what I had in Okayama and cannot find anywhere else here. Seems to be some collaboration between Carlos Jr from Torrance/Gardena and here in Plano with the special katsu menu- very cool and highlights the authenticity of the experience here. Many Japanese locals here and the wait staff speak primarily in Japanese as well: good sign! Soba was also very good, my gf is a soba enthusiast and she spoke very highly of it.
