We just left the sushi island. The food wasn't bad , what we had. Absolutely no customer service. We couldn't get a napkin or even a person to ask if we wanted anything off the menu. I first went to Sushi Island in 2012. The sushi was good, not too many people, and overall it was a very pleasant experience. Fast forward to 04/26/2014. My wife and I went to Sushi Island yesterday during happy hour, which we have many times. We had the customary long wait even though we got there 10 minutes before happy hour began (2pm). However, we did reject our first seating arrangement because we would be seated at the end of the belt. Last time we had gone we sat there and people from the huge line were standing only feet away and often others from tables would walk up, scout the sushi, yank one off the belt and leave. Overall it was very awkward to have so many people standing so close to us as we ate. Once we sat down our eyes excitedly scanned the belt for our first plate. I began to notice over half the sushi consisted of imitation crab ( I counted). Bummer. The sushi that had fish was not the best looking ether. It seemed like to turn a larger profit during happy hour they put low quality sushi on the belt. I know one can order off the menu, but this tends to take awhile, and why should there not be good sushi on the belt? Some of the sushi rice was a little dry, like it had been sitting awhile, and I ate one sushi roll with tuna that I thought for sure I would be feeling the next day--I made it through OK. To sum it up: this place has went down hill. Seems like they are trying to turn the largest profit possible at the expense of good food. When did sushi become all about imitation crab? Sushi Island left a fishy taste in my mouth, but not the delicate one that a person would expect from sushi; it was the fishy taste of disappointment. This place is amazing. My husband and I went for the first time yesterday. I will start by saying Happy Hour is a killer deal. All plates on the belt which consist of about 4 pieces are $1.50 each. I am picky about sushi and ordered the Caterpillar which it said was normally raw eel and they were more than willing to cook the eel for me. The customer service was great. I have eaten at Sushi Island over 20 times. I love the buffet, 2-4 pm $1.50 items on the belt. While the items on the belt might not be the same as a $12 sashimi somewhere else, it is good. They have had some good salmon lately. It's a good place to fill the belly of a hungry 16 year old for a reasonable price. read more

This place is good during happy hour. However the food items are kinda hit or miss. I would say the quality is not consistently poor, but its not great either. I have defiantly had things that were outright disgusting. Still it is not the worst I have had. They are missing lots of common rolls. They use alot of fake crab. One of my favorite places to eat Sushi! Happy Hour is the best time to visit as there is a chance to try out new items you may not try otherwise because of price restrictions if you are on a tight budget. Friendly staff helps with questions about what's what on the Island and a good time is always a guarantee when visiting this establishment. I don't understand all of the complaints. The sushi has all been well prepared, the servers are attentive, the food has a lovely presentation and is absolutely delicious, and the waitresses are very attractive. I come in and order a pepsi and eat a few dishes off the belt, collect myself, then leave happy. And I mean that. I leave with a smile on my face, because watching that sushi go around that belt, looking at the beautiful food-art... it's a delight! I have run into a tempura roll or two that had been making the rounds long enough to get a little stale, and that's why I give 4 stars. But this is a business, and it was still quite delicious. I want to see them stay, because it's wonderful having them in the area. read more

I've gone here often enough and had satisfying enough sushi - mediocre but half way decent. The Happy Hour is a great deal - but watch it. If you get there even a little before 2:00 pm they will try and charge you full price for everything you get, even if you stay until after 2:00. Not the best customer service. If it says happy hour and $1.50 plates from 2:00 to 4:00, that's the deal you should get. Most of the servers are great but this one was very insistent on charging me full price. Bento box dinner, good price, good food. Comfy and casual. Staff pretty friendly. BUT: service was lousy. 3 people, we all ordered bento boxes. Two arrived, the other, not. Server made so many excuses, never apologized. She admitted she wrote only two orders, not three, so that was reason for dealy. She didn't care she goofed, or that we had to wait. We told her we didn't want to eat while our friend was waiting for his food, and, we didn't want our food to get cold. Several times our server as well as others just kept saying "it'll just be a mintue" and no apology, no offer of a refund or discount or to take the other dinners back--- pretty much the server said to us, with body language and excuses, she didn't give a damn. The other server was the same, just shrugged and walked away. So what to do? Well, the location is good for us, prices right, food is good for the price, so yes, I'll be back. BUT I will make sure that I tell the server right away, and keep saying it, that I expect our food to arrive together at the same time. I say, go to Sushi Island, but expect the service to be lame and know you'll have to speak up for yourself. read more

We normally can't afford to eat sushi on a regular basis, but with the 2-4 sushi bar happy hour all plates on the belt are 1.50 which is very affordable. My family of three usually leave there stuffed even after ordering a plate of sashimi, octopus, about 9 plates off the belt and an order of teriyaki chicken, which comes with rice and miso soup. My 5 year old daughter is a fan of the teriyaki chicken, and being from Hawaii, I have to day they make it quite well, not too sweat or salty. As for the sushi off the belt, the rice is perfect and sticky and the seafood fresh and high quality. We usually never pay over forty dollars for our meal and that is for a family of three leaving very satisfied! read more

I can honestly say I've never experienced service as bad as at this place. My husband and I went for happy hour, and the food was slightly above average (not worth the price, though, in my opinion). However, we were there for almost an hour and our waitress didn't come by once to check on us, see if we wanted to order anything, fill our water, or anything. We even had to stand up to get someones attention so we could get our check. While the food was okay, it was not worth it based on the service. I left a $.05 tip for the first time in my life. We will be going back in about a month to see if they've improved since it is one of the more reasonably priced sushi places in town. read more

We were stopped at the signal and noticed the Sushi Island. It was happy hour time and we were looking for a bite of late lunch. I was amazed at the taste. I discovered Sushi Island several weeks ago and it has a lot going for it. I have eaten a lot of sushi around the world and this is pretty basic sushi... won't knock your socks off (if you are looking for high-end sushi, you're going to be disappointed) but for what it is, you get quick, friendly service and very tasty, edible and inexpensive sushi. Think TGIFridays of the Sushi world. While my kids and wife are vegetarian (there are plenty of options here for them), I have enjoyed the tunas and salmons and found them tasty and palatable. The service is always very friendly. The reviews I read here don't match my experience, but perhaps my expectations for $1.50 a plate are a bit more reasonable than some others'. "What! Ordered the Hollywood roll and salmon sashimi to go. SO disappointed. Ate one piece of the Hollywood roll and couldnt even look at the rest. The fish tasted so old and bad. Why I keep coming back here when all my reviews suck? MY SON LOVES IT!! He loves looking at the sushi going by on the roller and he doesn't mind that it's not the best sushi. After this experance I don't know if I'll EVER go back! Well we got there and they are busy (as usual) so that's nothing new, but they passed over us on the list 5 TIMES!! I kept saying to my self and my HUNGRY son "It's okay they are taking people that came in before us and that have more people in thier party." But when they skipped over us the 5th time I got mad and walked up to them and snapped "where are we on the list?" After they realized that they gave us a table and well my son was the only one who had ANYTHING. I had to flag down the girl and even then they people NEXT TO ME (THE CUSTOMERS) got up, got me my stuff!! Then when I asked for Kalamari and I don't know what my sons fav dish is (its the one with salmon on the inside and seweed on the outside), she didn't know what EITHER of them were!?! I mean COME ON, you work IN A SUSHI PLACE, BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT SUSHI IS CALLED?!? Okay well we finally got our stuff, my son loved it as usual and we left, but I was still fuming. I think the main reason this is getting adverse ratings is due to the fact that people have a greater tendency to provide a review if they are dissatisfied. This restaurant is obviously positioned as a lower quality/lower price sushi joint. The quality is not superb, but it is not supermarket quality. It's pretty much what you pay for and happy hour is a good deal, no matter how you dice it. They put out mostly $2-$2.50 plates, but that's still a good deal in my book. It's clean, has decent service, and is always full of plates on the belt. If you like sushi in general, you will most likely be satisfied. read more

I read these reviews before heading over for the first time. I gave it 4 stars because I think it deserves more credit. I went not long after they open.ed already had a fair amount of people, waitresses were helpful and polite, its really clean, my order to go took maybe 10 min. I got 2 Bento box for $6.95and thought it was worth it. As for the sushi fairly bland, but if you want gourmet sushi go to PURE. of course this isn't top of the line look at the prices. But in a sushi emergency this is awesome and I was very happy, will go back. My favorite sushi place is PURE, but I can't afford to eat sushi there everyday, here I can have a sushi treat a couple days a week! Good job! read more

This place had average food but it was nice that they had a menu to order off off as well as the belt sushi. Didn't expect the best so my only complaint is that everything was cold, although I admit that it would be hard to keep things warm on the belt. Still don't know how the special works as I had forgotten about it until I left. I think the service was standard compared to the other few belt sushi places I've been. The waitresses were friendly enough but you had to wave at them to get their attention. Three stars for being predictable and unsurprising. My family and I eat here quite often. The fish is always fresh. If you don't see something you want on the belt, they will always make it for you. The buy 5 get the 6th free works with a family too. You can combine all of the plates and they will give you the most expensive 6th ones free. read more

I have been a long time customer of Sushi Island, and I have seen their quality, selection and service degrade. The last couple of times I have gone I swore it was the last. I can put up with the limited selection (though really do you need fake crab done 15 different ways?) but the service is horrible. There is one waitress that just seems put out by being asked for water. The other two are obviously picking up the slack for the lazy one and they are over taxed. Tonight we sat for over 5 minutes waiting for water and the lazy one finally brought water over, but only one (there were 4 of us) then she walked in the back and she didn't come back! One of the other waitresses apologized (again several minutes later) and brought the rest of our group. When we finished we waited for our check over 10 minutes. We kept trying to get their attention but the lazy one was checking Facebook, the other one was serving the entire restaurant and the third had her back to us filling wasabi cups. Is the lazy one related to the owner? It is the only thing that I can come up with as to why she is still employed. read more

My brother ate there in May and said the food wasn't that good and wasn't worth the price. I went there with my husband a couple days ago and loved it. The prices are a little more than I'm used to, but the cheap plates ($1.50) were good stuff!! We didn't have a problem with the buy 5 get one free. We are definitely going back! :) read more
