I grew up going to this sushi place before it became Sushi Boom. I now revisit even though I no longer live in Orange as of 14 years ago. I absolutely love this place and the cuisine has gotten so much better and there is variety in their rolls. My siblings, my significant other, and my friends always love coming with me when I go because the food and the prices are AMAZING. The servers are always kind and don't hover. The location closely mimics an authentic sushi place and the place is like Orange's hidden gem. The outside is cute but inside it is prettier! My order usually is the Veracruz roll or a Specialty Crunch roll, mixed Tempura, Squid or Octopus, and some sprites. I tend to mix it up sometimes but always ask for their mochi icecream before I leave. I'll always love coming here and I hope this business always thrives. The appearance and ambience of the restaurant are pretty much the same but everything else is much better now. Prices are what you would expect for good sushi in OC. Our favorites are the Green Supreme and the Japanese Burrito because they are no rice, but our girls love the Mexicana and Baked Lobster rolls. I noticed one of the guys working the sushi bar was drinking out of a Sapporo bottle while working which was absurd. Our waitress was kind and helpful. We were hoping for good flavors and taste.Fish tasted a little old, then to top it off, we saw 2 huge cockroaches. While running an errand today, I stopped into Sushi Boom for a quick lunch. This was not the first time that I dined here, but took this latest visit to share my thoughts. I stopped in at a relatively early time as I was the first and was greeted by their friendly staff . . . pretty common, I would say, for a Japanese restaurant. Sushi Boom has always been very well kept and clean and from the others that slowly visited while I was there, it must have a good following. Their team is always friendly and very attentive. My meal today was a two-item lunch special with Chicken Teriyaki and Tempura as item two. It started with a very good bowl of Miso soup. You might be asking how one can remark about the soup, but it was actually rich and had a good ratio of tofu. The entree itself was served with a very tasty salad with a unique dressing and came very hot. Their Tempura was very good with a solid batter with the vegetables being very fresh. If I had to point out a couple of things that could have been better, I would say the Chicken Teriyaki could have been prepared with a little TLC and the rice came out a bit on the al dente side. I understand that lunch specials are served with high volume and a good deal in mind, but some refinement would have bumped this up a little. Overall, Sushi Boom is a pretty good place to visit. As mentioned, I've dined here on previous occasions and will continue to do so as it is pretty good spot . . . certainly for lunch. The sushi was very good, I would get both those rolls again! The edamame was delicious - great kick of spice but very sticky. The service was okay - the people are very friendly but after we put our order in the restaurant got busy and we were never checked on again and the bill was brought before we could ask for anything else. There's always a bunch of other bags waiting as well, so it looks like they are pretty busy with the to go orders. It is very good for what it is-- American-style sushi rolls (I.e. I wouldn't necessarily order sashimi from here). But when you're craving American rolls, this is the spot. They package the to go orders really well, where the sauces for each roll is on the side in a separate small sauce container. Korean owned business that has an excellent customer service and good quality food. By my coworker's recommendation, we stopped by for lunch and the ambiance had an izakaya feel to it. The restaurant was very clean and the staff were all very welcoming. We ordered rainbow rolls, green supreme rolls, teriyaki chicken bowl and shrimp udon, which they were all superb. It seems like green supreme roll is created by them because I haven't seen or heard such roll at any other sushi restaurants.
