Another great visit to Ami Sushi! Fresh fish and lovely people working. We always sit at the counter and enjoy watching the sushi being made. Fairly busy for a Thursday evening but not crowded or too loud.

Yummy sushi, fresh fish with reasonable pricing. Especially enjoyed the variations of carpaccio. The service was quick and friendly. Family-friendly ambience, and loved the fact that we could watch our NFL game while enjoying sushi! Great little place for a quick lunch or dinner- conveniently located off the 55 between the 22 and the 5.

A great spot for weekday dinner - there's so many sushi options, and the portions are really generous. Their buy one get one half off deal on Mon-Thurs from 4-9 PM is such a steal - Rolls, nigiri (2pcs), AND sashimi (5pcs) all qualify. The staff is super friendly as well! Highly recommend the Yellowtail Carpaccio, Seared Salmon Sushi, Ami House Roll (specialty item that doesn't qualify for BOGO), and Salmon Belly Sashimi. Also no wait when i went around 5:30 on a weekday (yay).

Poor quality. Disgusting amount of skin and fat. When contacting management to please make it right, he did not want to replace order. He made us feel like we were lying and wasting his time. After almost 15 years coming here, the way this situation was handled was so disheartening and quite frankly unprofessional. We hope the owner values his longtime loyal customers better as we will never return. Update - After back and forth with owner not wanting to replace, he finally ended up doing so after making us feel so bad for the poor quality they provided us. How could you argue this?! Especially to customers who have never complained and come to your establishment several times a month for the past 15+ years. We won't be returning. Completely disappointed and disheartening.

Wonderful service! great chefs! a variety of choices. This is my new sushi spot! Good for family, dates, or solo

Went there for a little break. The restaurant was a little empty but the servers were really nice. I ordered the scalloped sushi and a tempura udon. The tempura udon broth was very cozy with light dashi/mushroom flavor coming through. The noodles were nice and chewy which was good contrast with the crispiness tempura. The sushi also tasted very fresh. For the price you're paying, I think the amount of food is just right and good quality.

As one of the many many sushi spots in Orange County, I'm here to report that this place is pretty solid. Not the best sushi you'll ever have, but will satisfy your cravings. I think a perfect spot for a quick lunch or for takeout. The rolls are affordable and the service is good. The rolls are big but you'll want at least 2 to be full. The inside of the restaurant has a bar and a good amount of tables, and I'm told that there is usually no wait to eat.

Spicy tuna crispy rice: other than our favorite sushi place that sadly closed, this one was the best we've ever had. The crispy rice patty is fairly flat, which is way better and offers far superior crunch than the thick ones. "New style" salmon sashimi with white truffle: delightful. Salmon nigiri: we didn't think it could be this much better than other places. But it was. Seared escolar: I hadn't seen this on a menu in years and got really excited. This place nickel and dimes customers for everything. We were charged $6 just to add cucumber to a roll, $4 to add gobo, and even an extra charge to add lemon. The biggest issue wasn't even the prices, it was that our waiter never mentioned any of these upcharges when we ordered. If you're going to charge premium prices for simple additions, customers deserve to be told beforehand. We've eaten at countless sushi restaurants over the years, and we've never been charged these kinds of fees for basic add-ons, especially without any warning. It felt deceptive and left a terrible impression. Restaurants don't lose customers over a few dollars. They lose them when customers feel misled. Transparent pricing builds trust. Hidden charges destroy it. We won't be coming back, and unfortunately, we can't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an honest dining experience.

I ordered the Inaka soba, which was very savory and flavorful. The bowl included tororo, mushrooms, bonito flakes, shredded nori, green onions, and an egg. I enjoyed the nutty buckwheat flavor from the soba noodles and the clean taste from the light dashi broth. My husband had the curry udon with beef. The curry was aromatic and came as a silky, soup-like consistency that coated each udon noodle nicely. It had a deep umami flavor. The udon was the ideal texture - thick and chewy. As for the beef, it was very tender. We shared a crunchy roll on the side. It was cut into 8 pieces. Every piece was super crispy and delicious. The main flavor came from the eel sauce, so it tasted very sweet and savory.

It wasn't fully packed by the time we sat down. While he was busy chatting with another table, we were waiting for 15 minutes before the guy who seated us came to take our order. We ordered and noticed people who were seated much later than us got their food already. Another server who brought food to the table next to us noticed us and asked if we got our food yet. He double checked for us and main server hadn't sent our order to the kitchen. We had already waited 25 minutes in addition after placing our order. Our order came out very quickly after the realization. Unfortunately the lemon salmon sushi roll that came out seemed incredibly rushed. The roll wasn't tucked in so each piece we grabbed broke apart. The fried squid legs were good. The udon texture was good, but by the time our food came out, we weren't in the best mood. All the waiting and lack of service ruined our appetite. The 2nd server gave us a bag of salted noodle toppings to-go as a solace for the bad service? Though this location is bigger than the original, I'll be going to the Costa Mesa restaurant for better service.

The parking lot is small but I never had an issue finding parking when visiting businesses in this plaza. I made reservations for my cousin's birthday about a month prior through Tock. I was charged $100/person deposit to make the reservation. This is refunded on the day of your visit. I know they allow for lunch walk ins, but I believe reservations are required for dinner since they are a small intimate sushi restaurant and the chefs need to prepare some of these ingredients ahead of time. We arrived 10 minute prior to reservation time as instructed and we were seated towards the center of the sushi bar. In theory this would typically be one of the best seats in the house at any other sushi restaurant, but with the counter top being so high, I didn't really get to see any of the prep. Comparing this component to other restaurants in this price range. Also I felt like the chefs could have been more engaging... once again, just comparing it to similar experiences in this price range. At the time of our visit, the Kuramoto Omakase Menu ($220/person) composed of sashimi, starter, appetizer, 9 pieces of chef choice nigiri, interlude, specialty, featured, and then conclusion. We started off with a caviar tin with an assortment of fish eggs and some uni. This was one of the best bites of the night. Next was the chawanmushi, very delicate, contains oyster, shitake mushroom, gingo nuts, and shiso leaf. For the appetizer, we had a bite of karasume soba with mullet fish egg and quail egg. It was light and delicate. The quail egg really tied all the flavors together. Then for the nigiri, we had seabream with yuzu skin, kinmedai, amberjack with red yuzu, ocean trout, black cod with black truffle, stripejack with pickled wasabi and poprice, toro with uni miso, hokkaido uni with caviar, and ocean perch seared. The black cod with black truffle was one of my favorite bites. The interlude was a uni rice with unagi. I actually don't like how the uni was so mixed into the rice. The taste was less distinct than if I had the uni on its' own. I ate the unigi and tried to salvage the bits of uni I saw but at this point I was getting full and could not eat all this rice. Their specialty was a wagyu wellington. The name was more impressive than the execution. It visually looks like a handheld pot pie. To make it heavier they put it on a bed of potatoes. As I took my first bite, there was no "wagyu" There was very little filling. I think they can adjust the size of the pastry dough to fit the amount of wagyu they used instead of a huge piece of pastry dough with light filling. The savory items conclude with their featured dish, which was a Japanese dashi soup. For the dessert, or the conclusion, we had a shiso granita made with plum wine and white wine. My cousin's birthday, and other celebrations, were acknowledged with a candle lit dessert. I want to extend my thanks to Megume-san who took great care of us the whole night by refilling my hot tea, and clearing our space expeditiously. She was so sweet she even got a cup of hot tea for the road. Interactions with her made us feel like valued guests. Our meal was mostly enjoyable and my cousin had an amazing birthday celebration. I was just disappointed in the lack of showmanship for a meal in this price range.
