We are visiting from out of town and were lucky enough to stumble upon this place. From start to finish everything was amazing.. The appetizers, the sushi rolls, the entrees, and the dessert. The texture, temperature and freshness were on another level. We also had the scallops topped with uni and caviar , which were amazing, and the tuna toast was so simple but SO good. such a great experience at taberu sushi!! the staff was amazing and you can tell how much care they put into everything, from the food to the restaurant itself. even the murals inside are hand painted which i thought was such a cute touch and the ambience is so nice! we got the 7 pc sushi plate and the donburi and everything was super fresh and delicious (prob bc they import their fish from japan) we also tried the mochi ice cream for dessert and the yuzu was BOMBBB andrew was so helpful and attentive the entire time and made our experience even better. definitely recommend checking this place out!! read more

Taberu Sushi. Tucked in a small plaza by Mother's Market, across the street from Main Place mall. On the day of our visit, there were plenty of parking and we happen to arrive a couple of hours before their closing time which is 3pm and reopens at 5pm so keep this in mind if you're in the area and planning for sushi. This was a random find that was nearby and was perfect to visit since we were in the mood for sushi. We did read up a bit on their website and the selection sounded amazing so we figured to give it a shot so let's ge onto the food! FOOD Agedashi Tofu Your traditional fried tofu with bonito flakes and green onions. It was enjoyable and nice to come back to after having a few pieces of sushi. I wouldn't say it's the best but it's good so I recommend this starter if you like Fried Tofu! Double salmon roll If you're a salmon lover, I think you may enjoy this one. Spicy cherry salmon and cucumber inside, cherry salmon, truffle aioli and tobiko on top. This was a delightful roll. I'd get 2 orders of this though as it was not enough for 2 people haha Spicy Tuna Roll Base with Salmon & Avocado on top Another delicious roll with plenty of choices to form but this is the one we went with. You might think it may be a bit overwhelming but it's honestly one of the best combos. Quite refreshing especially with the avocado. Another roll that is on my re-order list! Rainbow roll Think of it as a variety roll with snow crab filling. If you want a bit of everything then this is your roll. Bluefin tuna(one of my favorites, Cherry Salmon, Yellowtail and White fish. Not a single one will disappoint you! #17 Wild Masaba So I'm not entirely sure if it's still available at this point but at the time we visited, we were recommended this nigiri. Wild Masaba is Mackerel and I don't care much for Mackerel but since it's imported I'd figure to give a shot and boy am I glad we tried it. Completely melts in your mouth, it's honestly one of the best slice of Mackerel I've had in my life. Take my word for it! But if you were interested in their slice of the week fishes, there's a chalkboard near the register that lists what they have available! OVERALL Ok. Let's just say I think we've found a new sushi spot in Orange County. Every piece of sushi is authentic and prepared very well. What's nice is every week they have new types of fish to try which are imported what seems to be from Japan and Korea, so be sure to follow them on their socials to see what they have available before you visit! This restaurant feels like it deserves a Michelin Star and if they haven't already, they've already earned one in my books. I don't think I'll ever step foot in another mediocre sushi restaurant again, Taberu really got me hooked! I never got the name of the owner but she was very insightful and informative about the menu, their fish selection and the brief history of the restaurant but I wanted to thank her for speaking to us! Restaurant interior has a warm fancy vibe which is very inviting. Lots of open space, you have your booths, center tables and a bar. Seriously one of my favorite sushi spots!! It's such an amazing hidden gem! I've dined here a good handful of times but this last time I decided to come solo and eat at the sushi bar. Came to this place around 6:30pm and I was actually the only one there at the time. It's not a bad thing but this place should be packed because it's so good! The staff are so welcoming and sitting at the sushi bar made it so much better as I was able to watch the sushi making and staff were very informative about their sushi and how it's prepared. Empty dishes were picked up promptly and I was checked on often to see how everything was going. The sushi chef was kind enough to give me a complimentary dish that included a type of marinated salmon and it came in a cute martini glass. I also had the salmon donburi bowl. I usually order the charashi bowl when I dine with someone but this time around it would be too much for me. Everything tasted fresh and had good flavor. And you know I have to have fresh wasabi! Loved that the bowl came with miso soup and a side seaweed and cucumber dish. I definitely was full after this meal! Soon after I began my meal, more customers started showing up. The restaurant itself has booths for more privacy and tables lined in the middle for smaller or larger groups. I really want to try the omakase here so I think I will try that next time! read more

A hole-in-the-wall not to be missed. Friends and I wanted some sushi after our beach day and we found this low-key sushi joint located in Santa Ana. I've been to this plaza many times but never noticed this spot. Thanks to Yelp, we found this place with affordable nigiri and great reviews. Each of us ordered the 9-piece sushi set and it was actually the PERFECT amount of food for us ladies. I also loved how they had unique nigiri instead of the typical ones you get (salmon, tuna, yellowtail). And you can tell they were fresh- even the mackerel (my least favorite fish but actually decent here). For lunch, you can pick the Taberu Lunch Course ($85) which is smaller portion of omakase dishes or the Omakase ($170) with 16 items of chefs choice plus either snow crab porridge or chawanmushi. We picked the $170 Omakase and it was an incredible culinary experience. To start, I would recommend the chawanmushi over the porridge because the porridge seemed slightly under-seasoned. The omakase included dishes like steamed abalone, Kumamoto oyster, Santa Barbara Uni, and many seasonal fish like the Japanese halfbeak (sayori). The dishes were nicely paced and beautifully presented. The mix of sashimi, nigiri sushi, and small cooked dishes was great. Dessert was poached pear, yum. Everyday, the omakase will vary slightly, depending on the fish brought in by vendors. Can't wait to try it again! read more

I've bookmarked this place for a long time bc of all the good reviews. Finally got to visit during lunch today with hubby since we were in the area. I was surprised at how dead the place was on a Sunday. There was only one other table asides from us that were dining there the entire time. The interior of the place was modern & elegant with artistic fish drawings & the fish light fixture was beautiful. The service was very polite & attentive. We both ordered the sushi set which included miso soup, salad, & chef's choice of 7 pieces of nigiri. The miso soup was on point but salad was meh. Have had this on my bucket list for a few months since seeing it in instagram, and am so flab I gave this place a try. Their Bluefin sashimi as well as the yellowtail belly sashimi was so fresh and delicious. Also had their double hamachi and Baked salmon roll and both were super yummy, especially the double hamachi if you love ponzu!! Apart from the food being phenomenal, service was also up to par. Derek and I believe his name was Ryan/Bryan were very attentive and knowledgeable on the fish and rolls. I wish the same freshness and care was given to a "to-go" order as order placed while seated. Tonight we ordered a Sunomono Salad, Gyoza & 2x Spicy Tuna crispy rice. The cucumber salad was not even edible- no where on the menu does it say covered in picked seaweed, it also was the most rubbery joke of a cucumber. The Gyoza was limp and undercooked & the crispy rice tasted like and chewed as if it was left over from days ago. I want to give this place a 4.5, but I can't. The husband took me here for our anniversary. Our usual go to spot unfortunately closed down since the owners retired. We have since been trying to find a new spot. We got the lunch omakase, $85 as of this review. We got chawanmushi, 7 nigiri with different cuts of fish, their version of a mini Kaisendon (we got sweet shrimp with uni, toro tartare and A5 Wagyu with scallop), miso soup, genmaicha for palate cleansing and a special dessert at the end. There was nothing wrong with the food or service. In fact, service deserves 10/5 stars. Shout out to Mimi, she's awesome!!! The interior was BEAUTIFULLY painted. However, I can't put my finger on it as to why I cannot rate it a 5/5. I can see myself coming back as a regular for lunch if I was in the area but I can't see myself going out of my way just to eat at this particular restaurant over and over again. I LOVE this place and can't believe it took me this long to try it! My friend and I ordered the Taberu Lunch Course (basically a mini omakase), and every course was thoughtfully prepared. The course included a chawanmushi with shiitake mushroom and shrimp, followed by 7 pieces of seasonal wild-caught fish. My favorite part was the mini kaisendon with Kumamoto oyster with caviar, sweet amaebi with creamy Bara uni, and toro that completely melted in my mouth. The yuzu mochi at the end was perfect -- not too sweet and had a nice chew to it. We also ordered the spicy garlic soy edamame, mizu tako aburi, and spicy tuna crispy rice. The crispy rice was a standout -- crunchy, flavorful, and topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, and serrano. Delicious! Service was on point. Andrew, the team leader, was super friendly and knowledgeable, and his recommendation of the yuzu sakari highball ended up being my favorite drink of the night. Slightly sweet, citrusy, and dangerously easy to drink. The owner Lynn, chef Sam, chef Sylvia, and chef Joon were incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can really tell how much care goes into the food here. The restaurant also has a quiet, intimate ambiance that made my experience feel even more relaxing. I love that the fish selection changes with the seasons, making it even more unique. Stopped by for dinner tonight and had a lovely time. This place is located next to Mother's, so there's lots of parking nearby. The restaurant is newer and is very bright with plenty of seating. You can also make reservations on Yelp which is a huge plus. Service was excellent, everyone was so nice and attentive. For food, we ordered the Yellowtail w/ Jalapeños, Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna, Salmon/Toro/Yellowtail Sushi, and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. All of the fish was very fresh and of great quality, so rest assured that no matter what you order, you can expect it to be quality. All of the dishes were good, but my only issue was that the shrimp tempura roll wasn't really a roll, but rather shrimp tempura on top of a crab roll. While the shrimp tasted great and was well prepared, I wouldn't order that dish again. Regardless, everything else was delicious. I'm really happy to have this place close by and would definitely recommend checking it out. I plan to come back and try some of their other dishes soon. read more

It was one of the few sushi spots I found to be open on a Monday.The food and drinks were amazing. DRINKS I tried the sake flight, which was a fun and unique taster that I haven't had at another sushi restaurant which included 3 tasters: Suigei Junmai, Dassai 45 Junmai Daiginjo, Gozenshu 1859 Junmai Daiginjo. They have a premium option as well. APPETIZERS Baked jumbo Scallop 4pcs (5/5) This was a fun and creative dish that came out with cheese/sauce boiling in the shell, beware the plate is hot. The scallops had Volcano Mayo Sauce, Tobiko, Scallion. The dish was delicious, but the presentation was even better. Seaweed salad (4/5) This was another very unique dish which not only came with the typical green seaweed salad, but black kelp. This black kelp was very unique and I have never had it before, I wasn't a huge fan of the taste or texture, but my husband enjoyed it. Both were very fresh. Salmon crudo (5/5) A very simple dish of salmon, sauce, capers. This was a light and flavorful appetizer with fresh fish. SUSHI ROLLS Double Hamachi (5/5) This signature roll included: Spicy Yellow Tail, Cucumber Topped with Yellow Tail, Onion Ponzu, Serrano. The yellowtail was fresh, and the balance of the roll was perfect. The serrano just gave it a small bit of spiciness. Double Salmon (5/5) Another top seller here which was also fresh and well balanced, if you like salmon that is. It included Spicy Salmon, Cucumber Topped with Salmon, Truffle Aioli, Tobiko, Chives. Wagyu piece (5/5) This individual wagyu beef roll was very simple with just a thin slice of beef on rice, but it was perfection. The beef melted in my mouth. I have definitely been to sushi restaurants where the wagyu was served tough and overcooked, but was cooked perfectly here. A little pricy for one piece, but definitely worth it to try. This is my new favorite sushi spot! We have been on a sushi trend recently, trying to find some great options (our previous place in Tustin closed down). We have been to several in past few weeks and this one stood out by far. Food was amazing. High quality. Loved the cherry salmon. The signature rolls were complex and delectable. We tried a little of everything--sake flight, signature rolls, A5 wagyu, seaweed & kelp salad, and enjoyed the gratis miso soup. Everything was really good, but the rolls were on a whole new level. I came here for dinner with reservations. I ordered the yellow tail jalapeno, 7pc sushi set and the 15 pc sashimi plate to share. The fish is good, it was fresh and the pieces were big. I enjoyed the sushi set better than the sashimi set. The sashimi set has big slices of fish which was worth it for the price. Service was good, server checked up on us often. I would recommend getting the sushi set if you want to try each fish individually and the sashimi set to share for bigger party. They also offer omakase and rolls too. We made reservations for a Saturday night dinner and glad to arrive with our table waiting. The space had nice decor and interesting wall paper. Their menu had quite the variety and was somewhat confused as i was trying to figure out what was their speciality. I've never seen Bulgogi listed along with sashimi. I had the 9 piece sashimi and it was ok. We also had a few their sushi rolls and i was more impressed. We also had their udon which was decent. We enjoyed the ambiance and service. This is the best sushi restaurant in North OC. Was looking for a new sushi place to go to and found this restaurant on google. When I first walked in, I was very impressed with the ambiance. There are textured, painted humpback whales on side of the wall. So beautiful. The service was stellar. Our waitress gave excellent recommendations on what sashimi to order. The favorite item ordered was the tuna tartare with truffle. All the sushi was delicious. Literally every single piece. This sushi is a little pricier, but well worth it. Literally the best new find. Tried this place for the first time and thought it was absolutely delicious. The service provided by our server was exceptional, her recommendations we on point. She made sure to not repeat fish with what we were ordering. We went close to closing but the ambiance was nice and quite. The location was nice and very clean. Bathrooms clean and large. I will be returning. They started us with miso soup then our order included. Double salmon roll (very fresh) Crispy rice with spicy tuner ( crispy rice perfect amount and spicy tuna fresh as well) Yellow tail jalapeño nice light and fresh Mixed tempura batter was light and flavorful not greesy. I just wanna say shout out to my guy Andrew!!! He was so attentive and was very understanding of our large party's slowness, and we had one person in our party who has a severe allergy to gluten a.k.a. celiac disease and immediately at the door he said that he is very knowledgeable in the menu and that he's had many celiac guests in the past and that he'll be happy to accommodate and he did just that!! we had such a peaceful experience. We ordered the omakase for dinner and it definitely didn't disappoint. We thought that each item had its own unique taste that complimented each other. You can really taste the difference of flavors in each fish. The service was amazing and it felt like each of the servers made the experience memorable. So good my son asked me to always this review while in the parking lot after dinner. Service was excellent. Best spicy tuna he's ever eaten. Rainbow roll was exceptional. Gyoza and shrimp tempura both excellent as was the other rolls. Tuna in everything was outstanding. Wish we lived local. read more
