Double hamachi roll (?) I didn't like it
    Cindy N.

I ordered the toro donburi and WOW!! It was so mouthwateringly delicious. I didn't finish it and had some leftovers for the next day, and it was STILL good! We also ordered the double hamachi roll which I don't recommend. It was rather plain. The interior of the restaurant is very cute and aesthetic. The service was excellent. I'd love to come back and try their other dishes.

Andrew and Mimi were kind, friendly, and made great recommendations. We were celebrating our in-laws marriage and they gave us a complimentary tuna tartare dish which was delicious! The quality of fish was just as good if not better than some of the fish I had in Japan. 11/10 recommend!

This place is unassuming. It's in a shopping center near other mainstream food places and easy to drive by. Once inside though, you are immediately amazed by the beautiful decor and great ambience. The service is excellent and the staff is kind. The cuts of fish are generous and the quality is incredible. This is our new favorite spot.

Taberu deserves more than 5 stars. The atmosphere is nice, relaxing, and comfortable and cozy. Staff is extremely friendly. Shout to Andrew and Mimi for being so nice, extremely kind, super friendly. We came here after our courthouse wedding and they provided a wonderful dish Toro Tartare (highly recommended trying. It won't disappoint). Every bite was delicious. Always had us complimenting the food after every bite. If you're nearby, make a stop here.

We ordered a sashimi set, an appetizer, and a roll set to share between two people, and it ended up being the perfect amount of food. The service was excellent from start to finish. They consistently checked in on us without being intrusive, and when they noticed we were sharing, they kindly brought us a complimentary soup since the set only came with one. Such a thoughtful gesture that really elevated the experience. The set included a special miso soup that was packed with flavor yet still light and comforting. It had depth without being too salty, which made it incredibly satisfying. The sashimi set was the true standout. Every slice was incredibly fresh -- you could immediately tell by the clean taste and buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Each fish had its own distinct flavor profile, from rich and silky to light and subtly sweet. The cuts were thick, glossy, and beautifully plated. You can really taste the quality and freshness in every single bite. I also ordered a sake set, which paired so well with the sashimi. The smoothness of the sake complemented the freshness of the fish perfectly and made the whole meal feel even more elevated. Overall, such a great experience. Fresh fish, thoughtful service, and a meal that felt both satisfying and refined. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

    - went for a valentines dinner and opted for the regular menu items so we could pick and choose what we wanted to eat! - the interior was gorgeous including all the cutlery! - service was lovely, accommodating, and each dish was explained to us well - I recommend reserving a spot ahead, this place gets popular! - we loved everything here! Our favorites were the jalapeño yellowtail appetizer, s & t roll, cherry salmon and toro sashimi - everything was melt-in-your-mouth tender and expertly paired with its seasonings and sauces

Tried this place for the first time and thought it was absolutely delicious. The service provided by our server was exceptional, her recommendations we on point. She made sure to not repeat fish with what we were ordering. We went close to closing but the ambiance was nice and quite. The location was nice and very clean. Bathrooms clean and large. I will be returning. They started us with miso soup then our order included. Double salmon roll (very fresh) Crispy rice with spicy tuner ( crispy rice perfect amount and spicy tuna fresh as well) Yellow tail jalapeño nice light and fresh Mixed tempura batter was light and flavorful not greesy. Garlic soy edamame with spice spice and garlic were the perfect amount not over bearing. Great place to give a try

Stopped by for dinner tonight and had a lovely time. This place is located next to Mother's, so there's lots of parking nearby. The restaurant is newer and is very bright with plenty of seating. You can also make reservations on Yelp which is a huge plus. Service was excellent, everyone was so nice and attentive. For food, we ordered the Yellowtail w/ Jalapeños, Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna, Salmon/Toro/Yellowtail Sushi, and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. All of the fish was very fresh and of great quality, so rest assured that no matter what you order, you can expect it to be quality. All of the dishes were good, but my only issue was that the shrimp tempura roll wasn't really a roll, but rather shrimp tempura on top of a crab roll. While the shrimp tasted great and was well prepared, I wouldn't order that dish again. Regardless, everything else was delicious. I'm really happy to have this place close by and would definitely recommend checking it out. I plan to come back and try some of their other dishes soon.

This is a MUST GO place!! Sushi is top quality!! Every dish was exquisite quality! The service is exceptional and amazing! Mimi's attentiveness is exceptional. Her suggestions were spot-on and amazing! Love! Love! Love, Their ambiance and deco! We will definitely be back!!

This is the best hidden gem for fresh and authentic sashimi and sushi in the oc. Ordered the lunch sushi set, black cod sushi, tuna & salmon on top sushi roll, and double hamachi roll. Super generous cuts of fresh fish to rice ratio, just absolutely delicious. Service was so friendly and kind, treated us to a birthday dessert. Standouts: black cod sushi (my god so good), tuna & salmon on top roll (ponzu is a great touch), and sushi lunch set (freshest tuna, salmon, and yellowtail) Cant wait to come back!

    Kelp and seaweed salad

Absolutely amazing from start to finish. The service was fantastic, very warm, knowledgeable, and attentive. I have been on the hunt for my new favorite sushi spot, and this may be it. It was one of the few sushi spots I found to be open on a Monday. The food and drinks were amazing. DRINKS I tried the sake flight, which was a fun and unique taster that I haven't had at another sushi restaurant which included 3 tasters: Suigei Junmai, Dassai 45 Junmai Daiginjo, Gozenshu 1859 Junmai Daiginjo. They have a premium option as well. APPETIZERS Baked jumbo Scallop 4pcs (5/5) This was a fun and creative dish that came out with cheese/sauce boiling in the shell, beware the plate is hot. The scallops had Volcano Mayo Sauce, Tobiko, Scallion. The dish was delicious, but the presentation was even better. Seaweed salad (4/5) This was another very unique dish which not only came with the typical green seaweed salad, but black kelp. This black kelp was very unique and I have never had it before, I wasn't a huge fan of the taste or texture, but my husband enjoyed it. Both were very fresh. Salmon crudo (5/5) A very simple dish of salmon, sauce, capers. This was a light and flavorful appetizer with fresh fish. SUSHI ROLLS Double Hamachi (5/5) This signature roll included: Spicy Yellow Tail, Cucumber Topped with Yellow Tail, Onion Ponzu, Serrano. The yellowtail was fresh, and the balance of the roll was perfect. The serrano just gave it a small bit of spiciness. Double Salmon (5/5) Another top seller here which was also fresh and well balanced, if you like salmon that is. It included Spicy Salmon, Cucumber Topped with Salmon, Truffle Aioli, Tobiko, Chives. Wagyu piece (5/5) This individual wagyu beef roll was very simple with just a thin slice of beef on rice, but it was perfection. The beef melted in my mouth. I have definitely been to sushi restaurants where the wagyu was served tough and overcooked, but was cooked perfectly here. A little pricy for one piece, but definitely worth it to try. Everything was amazing here and we can't wait to come back!

We got there at 5:45pm and it was already semi packed with several tables already reserved. Ambience is nice, restaurant is clean and spacious. Service was good. As a walk-in we got seated right away at the end of the bar, which was fine (since we wanted to sit at the bar) and hadn't made reservations. Note this is a review for what I would call a tier 2 sushi joint. I consider tier 1 to be more omakase style and/or premium Michelin star type venues. We enjoyed everything, especially the uni toro spoon. The hand rolls and rolls are filling so it's a great value for your money. We had hot sake and Kirin. Was able to catch the last few minutes of the happy hour menu - Sky special & hot sake. We ordered the following for 2: Tinker Bell hand roll, crispy rice spicy tuna, Sky's special, Bubble Bee roll, triple belly sashimi, seared salmon belly carpaccio, black cod sushi, Nodoguro (white fish) sushi, unagi hand roll, salmon skin hand roll, uni toro spoon (my favorite)! Would come back again to enjoy your everyday typical tier 2 style sushi. Tier 1 sushi is typically saved for special occasions.

Today we went there not knowing of the change. The food is now certainly "all you can eat" quality. We could not tell the difference between regular salmon and the salmon belly nigri they brought us. It looked and tasted exactly the same. Definitely not fatty salmon belly. 3. The yellow tail belly was chewy. 4. All the fish in their nigri sushi were thinly cut with very little rice. Definitely all you can eat amount of fish. 5. The rolls were small and for some reason all tasted the same with little flavor. If you like all you can eat sushi places which always offer low quality fish, you might like this place. I used to really enjoy this divey old school conveyor belt sushi bar. Sometime between the last…read moretime I came in and now, they revamped their entire ordering system. Gone are the charming slips of paper where you write in your seat number and tick off your orders and slip it into the order cylinders that rotate its way to the chefs while also having the waiters available for the incidental things you require like beverages and condiments. In its place is you holding your phone and desperately tapping it, whether you're trying to get a cup of water or a hand roll. Neither will come out very fast and it's completely frustrating. Walking in, I noted how easy it was to get a seat this time. Now I know why. The food remains mostly basic and mid level quality. Random dishes roll out on the conveyor belt so that's accessible as soon as you see something you like but the items you really want, like the daily specials, you have to order. And that's going to take a long time, you'll be forced to pick up things you only half want just to have something to eat. Adding up the bill is another trial. Four of us sat at a booth table. They had no way of offering us separate bills even though that is standard when you're sitting at the individual seats. Why don't they just add a letter to your booth number for each person?? Anyway it took the waitress at least 15-20 minutes standing there to figure everything out and even then it was messed up with things being left off some bills, wrong items added to wrong bills and double charges for others. When told of these mischarges, she told us to work it out amongst ourselves. I wish I could have but I didn't even get a receipt, just told an amount to give her as she walked away. There must have been a change in ownership. The entire wait staff is now Vietnamese and the chefs are Mexican. Nobody Japanese left in sight. That's not necessarily a requirement but the restaurant sure ran better with the previous Japanese owners and staff. I will probably go elsewhere for my conveyor belt sushi fix from now on. Maybe wait for the next owners to show up.
