such a great experience at taberu sushi!! the staff was amazing and you can tell how much care they put into everything, from the food to the restaurant itself. even the murals inside are hand painted which i thought was such a cute touch and the ambience is so nice! we got the 7 pc sushi plate and the donburi and everything was super fresh and delicious (prob bc they import their fish from japan) we also tried the mochi ice cream for dessert and the yuzu was BOMBBB andrew was so helpful and attentive the entire time and made our experience even better. definitely recommend checking this place out!!

Taberu Sushi. Tucked in a small plaza by Mother's Market, across the street from Main Place mall. On the day of our visit, there were plenty of parking and we happen to arrive a couple of hours before their closing time which is 3pm and reopens at 5pm so keep this in mind if you're in the area and planning for sushi. This was a random find that was nearby and was perfect to visit since we were in the mood for sushi. We did read up a bit on their website and the selection sounded amazing so we figured to give it a shot so let's ge onto the food! FOOD Agedashi Tofu Your traditional fried tofu with bonito flakes and green onions. It was enjoyable and nice to come back to after having a few pieces of sushi. I wouldn't say it's the best but it's good so I recommend this starter if you like Fried Tofu! Double salmon roll If you're a salmon lover, I think you may enjoy this one. Spicy cherry salmon and cucumber inside, cherry salmon, truffle aioli and tobiko on top. This was a delightful roll. I'd get 2 orders of this though as it was not enough for 2 people haha Spicy Tuna Roll Base with Salmon & Avocado on top Another delicious roll with plenty of choices to form but this is the one we went with. You might think it may be a bit overwhelming but it's honestly one of the best combos. Quite refreshing especially with the avocado. Another roll that is on my re-order list! Rainbow roll Think of it as a variety roll with snow crab filling. If you want a bit of everything then this is your roll. Bluefin tuna(one of my favorites, Cherry Salmon, Yellowtail and White fish. Not a single one will disappoint you! #17 Wild Masaba So I'm not entirely sure if it's still available at this point but at the time we visited, we were recommended this nigiri. Wild Masaba is Mackerel and I don't care much for Mackerel but since it's imported I'd figure to give a shot and boy am I glad we tried it. Completely melts in your mouth, it's honestly one of the best slice of Mackerel I've had in my life. Take my word for it! But if you were interested in their slice of the week fishes, there's a chalkboard near the register that lists what they have available! OVERALL Ok. Let's just say I think we've found a new sushi spot in Orange County. Every piece of sushi is authentic and prepared very well. What's nice is every week they have new types of fish to try which are imported what seems to be from Japan and Korea, so be sure to follow them on their socials to see what they have available before you visit! This restaurant feels like it deserves a Michelin Star and if they haven't already, they've already earned one in my books. I don't think I'll ever step foot in another mediocre sushi restaurant again, Taberu really got me hooked! I never got the name of the owner but she was very insightful and informative about the menu, their fish selection and the brief history of the restaurant but I wanted to thank her for speaking to us! Restaurant interior has a warm fancy vibe which is very inviting. Lots of open space, you have your booths, center tables and a bar. You might find the prices to scare you but don't be intimidated because every bite is worth it. You're getting high quality fish and exquisite presentation. Very satisfied with the meal and experience, will definitely be visiting again. Many thanks to the team at Taberu Sushi!

Hole in the wall / family owned vibes! Kind of a hidden gem in Santa Ana, the location is unsuspecting but the interior is very nice and gives great date night vibes! From their wall it looks like they import their fishes from Japan and have rotating daily specials. Would recommend the 9 pc sushi! Extra plates for plating and aesthetic :)

Seriously one of my favorite sushi spots!! It's such an amazing hidden gem! I've dined here a good handful of times but this last time I decided to come solo and eat at the sushi bar. Came to this place around 6:30pm and I was actually the only one there at the time. It's not a bad thing but this place should be packed because it's so good! The staff are so welcoming and sitting at the sushi bar made it so much better as I was able to watch the sushi making and staff were very informative about their sushi and how it's prepared. Empty dishes were picked up promptly and I was checked on often to see how everything was going. The sushi chef was kind enough to give me a complimentary dish that included a type of marinated salmon and it came in a cute martini glass. I also had the salmon donburi bowl. I usually order the charashi bowl when I dine with someone but this time around it would be too much for me. Everything tasted fresh and had good flavor. And you know I have to have fresh wasabi! Loved that the bowl came with miso soup and a side seaweed and cucumber dish. I definitely was full after this meal! Soon after I began my meal, more customers started showing up. The restaurant itself has booths for more privacy and tables lined in the middle for smaller or larger groups. I really want to try the omakase here so I think I will try that next time!

A hole-in-the-wall not to be missed. Friends and I wanted some sushi after our beach day and we found this low-key sushi joint located in Santa Ana. I've been to this plaza many times but never noticed this spot. Thanks to Yelp, we found this place with affordable nigiri and great reviews. Each of us ordered the 9-piece sushi set and it was actually the PERFECT amount of food for us ladies. I also loved how they had unique nigiri instead of the typical ones you get (salmon, tuna, yellowtail). And you can tell they were fresh- even the mackerel (my least favorite fish but actually decent here). The server also knew the details of each fish and shared that their menu changes daily, depending on the fish that Japan sends. I will definitely be returning!

Came for dinner and loved everything we got! So impressed by the snow crab rolls which are a California roll but with real snow crab instead of imitation crab! - 7 piece sushi: fish was fresh and each piece was pretty big! Especially impressed by the size of the tuna and salmon pieces - Salmon on top of snow crab roll: forgot to take a photo of this but the salmon sashimi on top was a big piece over the snow crab California roll with truffle oil - Shrimp tempura roll: fresh shrimp tempura on top of the snow crab California roll - S&T roll: surf n turf roll with a slice of Wagyu on top and lobster roll inside. I couldnt really taste the lobster inside but the wagyu beef on top was really good! - Birthday dessert: we forgot to tell the server it was our friends bday but he overheard us say happy birthday to her and brought out this Japanese cheesecake at the end which we really appreciated! It was so good and had so much flavor and was pretty dense despite it being so small. We were able to share it between 4 people. Will definitely be back! I really enjoyed the snow crab rolls, even more than the nigiri which I usually prefer over rolls!

Eat here. Immediately. Taberu Sushi was absolutely incredible. This is a family-run restaurant where you can immediately tell how much pride and care goes into the food. We ordered the 16-piece Sashimi Box, which included bluefin tuna, cherry salmon, kanpachi, kuro dai, shima aji, toro, snapper, clam, mackerel and amberfish. Everything was unbelievably fresh and beautifully presented. The quality of the fish really stood out. We learned that the chef is extremely particular about his fish. If something comes in from a vendor and isn't up to his standards, he sends it back. He also doesn't cut the fish until you actually order it. After eating here, you understand why. The texture, temperature and freshness were on another level. We also had the scallops topped with uni and caviar , which were amazing, and the tuna toast was so simple but SO good. Honestly, there wasn't one thing we wouldn't order again. Lynn, the owner, was gracious and wonderful, she made us feel so welcome. Derek was our server and was equally wonderful and attentive. You really feel the warmth of a family-run restaurant here. Exceptional sushi, exceptional quality and genuinely wonderful people. We can't wait to come back!!

Lunch at Taberu Sushi turned out to be a genuinely great experience. The moment we sat down, the staff made sure we felt taken care of -- attentive, friendly, and clearly committed to giving us a smooth dining experience. The highlight was definitely the salmon rolls. They were incredibly fresh, with that clean, buttery flavor you only get when the fish is top quality. Each bite was balanced, delicious, and honestly better than what you find at most casual sushi spots. Service stayed consistently great throughout the meal. Drinks were refilled quickly, plates cleared without interrupting, and the team checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect without hovering. Overall, Taberu delivers fresh sushi, warm hospitality, and a lunch experience that feels both relaxed and memorable. It's the kind of spot you leave already planning your next visit. Miguel C.

New favorite omakase meal in OC! For lunch, you can pick the Taberu Lunch Course ($85) which is smaller portion of omakase dishes or the Omakase ($170) with 16 items of chefs choice plus either snow crab porridge or chawanmushi. We picked the $170 Omakase and it was an incredible culinary experience. To start, I would recommend the chawanmushi over the porridge because the porridge seemed slightly under-seasoned. The omakase included dishes like steamed abalone, Kumamoto oyster, Santa Barbara Uni, and many seasonal fish like the Japanese halfbeak (sayori). The dishes were nicely paced and beautifully presented. The mix of sashimi, nigiri sushi, and small cooked dishes was great. Dessert was poached pear, yum. Everyday, the omakase will vary slightly, depending on the fish brought in by vendors. Can't wait to try it again!

Hidden gem on its way to a Michelin nomination. Come before everyone else finds out. Hands down best sushi in Orange County. The fish is always fresh and generously portioned. Staff are friendly and professional. Shoutout to Andrew! Our go to every time we're craving sushi in OC. Interior decor is modern and tasteful. Plating is beautiful with salmon donburi and chirashi bowl. You can tell the chef is very detail oriented. Honestly, bring a first date foodie here and knock their socks off. We love it here!

I've bookmarked this place for a long time bc of all the good reviews. Finally got to visit during lunch today with hubby since we were in the area. I was surprised at how dead the place was on a Sunday. There was only one other table asides from us that were dining there the entire time. The interior of the place was modern & elegant with artistic fish drawings & the fish light fixture was beautiful. The service was very polite & attentive. We both ordered the sushi set which included miso soup, salad, & chef's choice of 7 pieces of nigiri. The miso soup was on point but salad was meh. The quality of the fish was fresh & the rice to fish ratio was perfect. Their menu is extensive & they also serve their specials on the board which I'm interested in trying next time.

Taberu Sushi has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Santa Ana, and this was my third visit--each one better than the last. The fish is consistently fresh, with some pieces flown in straight from Japan, and every chef we've encountered has been warm and welcoming. We sat at the sushi bar this time, and chef Sam took great care of us, starting with melt-in-your-mouth toro paired with fresh scallops--an unforgettable combination. Our server Andrew rounded out the experience perfectly: friendly, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu. He even taught us a fun Korean phrase for when you're craving a little something extra, and pointed us toward the red bottle of sake for our next visit. This is a true hidden gem, and honestly, part of me wants to keep it that way--but it's too good not to share. Highly recommend!

The miso soup doesn't come with tofu, but they gave some tofu on the side.

I can understand how business owners, managers, servers, and customers are all caught within the vicious fluctuations of markets and so on. However, what I was recently served at Kaizen Shabu last week was, to my mind, an egregious example of a restaurant offering well below the bare minimum of what should be expected for the prices listed (and my photos will show this, I believe). At the outset, I want to say I have no grievances with the servers. Our server was kind, attentive, and was elegantly multitasking. Bravo. Now, the food: we ordered the salmon "sashimi" plate, and what we were handed was a platter of the thinnest, grainiest, obviously-thawed and poorly sliced salmon I've ever eaten in my life. I was a bit shocked. At Cal Shabu Shabu (and other shabu places I tend to frequent more often), sashimi is... sashimi. It *looks* like sashimi because it IS sashimi: a piece of salmon purchased by the restaurant and knife-cut into appropriate portions depending on what portion size the customer has ordered. It is sashimi that gleans in the light, where the striations of fat and tissue are visible to the naked eye on the fish itself. As you can see from my photos, we were served paper-thin salmon that I could barely peel off of the plate with my chopsticks without ripping the fish into smaller, grainier pieces. It was all but inedible, in my opinion. This is not sashimi, and to serve such a thing for the price listed is beyond atrocious: it is an outright deception. Now, onto the side of veggies and noodles that come with every order of meat or fish. Perhaps the cooks could not be bothered, but what I received was broken tendrils of 2-inch udon haphazardly thrown into a bowl. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the chefs, with a dwindling supply of food nearer the end of the night, or if this restaurant truly does not care about the quality of what they are serving customers. Again, I think my pictures speak for themselves. I used to love coming here as the atmosphere was chic, and the servers are so kind. After my last dining experience, however, I cannot justify the price of my bill in the face of the quality of the food I am being served. I won't be returning, sadly. I hope the manager has an opportunity to look at these photos and perhaps reassess what can be done to improve what they are serving their customers.

However, something has really changed in the last few months for the worst. The last two times we've ordered take out, there have been huge delays and quality issues. Last night was the final straw. Apparently the owner has instructed the chefs to exclusively prioritize in person diners and ignore the tickets for to go food. We also all got texts saying our order was ready - when it hadn't even been made yet. We waited well over an hour after getting the "food is ready" text and arriving. Even after we asked multiple times about our order, the chefs just didn't make it. They were clearly focused on the in person diners only, per the owner's instructions. The poor wait staff were very kind and trying to help, but ultimately their hands were tied. Long overdue review! HiroNori is honestly one of my favorite spots for ramen, and this visit did…read morenot disappoint. Along with the great staff and intimate ambiance always a great go too. We started with the pork buns with marinated pork belly . The pork was tender and flavorful, and the pickled onions added the perfect tanginess. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was another favorite. We also tried the chicken rice bowl, which came with juicy chicken thigh, soft-boiled egg and rice. Simple, but really satisfying. Of course, the star of the meal was the Shoyu Ramen. The 100% chicken broth with 2-year barrel-aged soy sauce had a deep, savory flavor, with pork chashu, bamboo, spinach and soft-boiled egg bringing everything together. To wash it all down, we had the Mint Cucumber Yuzunade super refreshing, bright, and citrusy, and a great balance to all the rich flavors. Definitely a place I keep coming back to when I'm craving a good bowl of ramen.

The toppings were fresh, generous, and complemented the ramen beautifully. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was welcoming and attentive. Service was quick, and everything arrived hot and fresh. The only minor downside is that the restaurant can be a bit challenging to find since it's located inside a business building. If you're visiting after 6:00 PM, you'll need to use the side entrance. If you're craving authentic, comforting ramen, this place is definitely worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu!
