I love a good Omakase and when word got out almost instantly after they opened, I had to give it a try. I was first drawn by the value. $100 for 16 courses? In today's economy?? Sign me up! The omakase bar is speakeasy style, behind another bar. One thing that stands out immediately is the service. Every single chef is friendly, entertaining and informative, the servers are attentive and prompt. It feels every bit as if you're hanging out at a classy party as much as you are dining. To top it all off, the playlist is perfection. The head chef curated a playlist of all the late 90s/early 2000s bangers. Back-to-back-to-back, every song had the attendees smiling, laughing and toasting all night long. Now for the food. The craftsmanship they put into each item is noticeable and they will explain what they're putting together as they make it. All the nigiri were good but the tuna stood out far and above the others. Perfect texture and that rich buttery melt-in-your-mouth goodness that a superb tuna nigiri is known for. On top of that, the handrolls also really bring it home. The quality of the fish is exquisite and you'll be happy to know that the entirety of the 16 courses is filling as well. There have been other omakase places I have been to where I am hungry by the end of it but my hunger was satisfied at the end. Overall, an amazing night, thank you to the staff!

Naisho Omakase is the newest cool sushi experience in town! The brainchild of Chef Simpei is a reverse speakeasy concept, where the restaurant is hidden behind the Highball bar. We were lucky to grab the last 2 seats at the elegant 14 seat sushi counter, since reservations on Open Table are nearly impossible to get. There are two choices on the menu, 12 piece for $75 or 16 piece for $100 which was the way to go. The size of the nigiri was bite-size and perfectly balanced with warm sushi rice. There were 3 sushi chefs and we got Chef Alex who has been a sushi chef for 25 years. Every piece of "The Journey" was delicious, from amberjack and amaebi to chutoro and miso-butter crab. I love uni (not included) so I got an uni toast with caviar as an add-on. I appreciated that they served a complimentary sake shot before the meal and hot sencha was refilled with a new cup. Service was above and beyond. There are three seatings starting at 6pm, 7:30pm and 9pm and Chef Simpei told us he changes up his music playlist each seating. Great vibe, ambiance, food and service - definitely will be back!

Awesome omakase at a good price. Went for a weekday dinner. There's a strip mall parking lot for the restaurant. Had an rsvp and checked in with the host (you ring a doorbell and they come outside to assist) - ended up waiting about 10 minutes as our seats were not yet ready. You walk through their speakeasy and to the back room - which is a minimalist sushi bar seats around it. The background music had all the hits when I was in high school. The servers and chef greeted us and it was on. They serve a complimentary sake to start while you look through the menu. There's 2 menu options (both omakase) - everyone in your party will have to order the same option: - 12 piece nigiri sushi ($75) - 16 piece w/ shellfish ($100) There's an awesome cocktail menu but was taking it easy on the drinks this week, so opted for water. The pieces came out fairly quickly. The chef was very good about explaining each piece, the garnish, and sauce that goes with it. The pieces were not large, but it was a good fish to rice ratio. Each piece was really good - especially the unagi (which I don't tend to like) - they hit it with orange and honey vs the normal eel sauce. Was legit. The vibe felt good with the pace and energy of the staff and nearby customers - so felt it could easily have been a party if some drinks were flowing haha. Overall - would def come back. You do need reservations and they're tough to come by (it's a small place), but you will be rewarded with an affordable, well made omakase experience.

Naisho is just absolutely amazing! Chef Shimpei showcases his signature talent and hospitality at this new 14 seat omakase experience in Costa Mesa. As expected, all the nigiri pieces are absolutely delish and melt in your mouth with perfect texture and flavor! I also love the reverse speakeasy concept where the bar is the storefront and the hidden "secret" is the restaurant in the back. The interior is beautifully done and tastefully decorated. The whole experience is about an hour long, and they have multiple seatings each night that you can book through OpenTable. There's 2 options, a 12 or a 16 course, but going with the 16 course option is a no brainer. You can also opt for additional supplements including the Uni Toast for an additional charge if you're hungry for some more at the end. There's a parking lot that has free valet parking. When you get to the storefront and you see a sign with the name "Highball," you're in the right place. Ring the doorbell and give it a minute or two if they're don't open the door immediately. Whether you're an omakase aficionado or a sushi beginner, you'll love Naisho. Chef Shimpei is among the best in the business, and you'll crave his sushi all the time. An absolute MUST TRY...5 stars and a million thumbs up!!

I can confidently say this is at the top of my omakase experiences in California! We walked in and were able to grab a seat for 2 within 30 minutes. The lounge is small and dark, but the drinks were so good! The omakase area seats about 12-14 I think. We had Chef Alex and he was great! We opted for the 16 course omakase and honestly every bite was perfect and fresh. I would have paid more for this but I'm glad it was only $100 I didn't have a favorite because all of it was soooo good. My fiance said the crab was his favorite. I can't wait to come back!! Seriously, 5 stars for everything here!!

Food is outrageously amazing! Sake and cocktail are superb! Price for what you get is incredible! Service is stellar and sushi chefs are great to chat with. The decor is modern and dark with light bamboo accents. Love the speakeasy vibes. I think it's really cute how they let you choose or sake cups or chopstick holders. 5/5 Would recommend coming again!

For Naisho -- Although grabbing a reservation can feel like the effort of winning a lottery, the service and experience was worth it! Took out my family of 4 for an early bday dinner and my parents were left feeling incredibly satisfied and entertained. The chefs are knowledgeable and were attentive in making everyone feel welcomed. The fish quality was fresh (our favorites were the shrimp and chu toro). Each piece was uniquely seasoned without taking the main flavors of the fish away. The waitresses and waiters were sweet and constantly refilled our waters and offered menu suggestions thoughtfully throughout our dinner. We hope to return for the seasonal menu changes!

Getting in here already feels like part of the experience... but not necessarily in a good way. I had a late reservation and was honestly close to canceling. After deciding to go anyway and driving out, I arrived a few minutes early, rang the doorbell, and was told to wait outside while the previous seating finished. It was cold, and I still didn't get seated until around 9:45 -- which made the whole wait feel a bit frustrating, especially that late at night. Also, don't bother calling -- there's basically no one to speak to and you can't book over the phone. From what I overheard, people line up around 5 PM just to get on the walk-in list. OpenTable reservations exist, but they don't even open until the restaurant is already open... so yeah, it's a bit of a process. Once you're in, everything moves fast. Courses come out back-to-back -- almost rushed -- and the rice portions were heavier than I'd prefer for this type of experience. That said... the fish? Really good. Fresh, clean, and definitely the highlight. Service was also solid -- attentive and smooth despite the pace. The vibe is more loud, trendy hangout than traditional omakase. Music is up, people are chatting, and it leans more date-night / social scene than quiet, elevated dining. Overall: Sometimes you just want a calm, relaxing dinner -- and this isn't that. This is more of a place you go when you're in the mood for the energy and the scene. Bottom line: Good fish, fun vibe, but expect a wait, a faster pace, and not the most relaxing experience.

First time trying it out and it was a great experience. Chef Shimpei was a delight and has his loyal customers following him out to this location which was a great sign of a great chef. Take my advice here, if they offer you a sake cup at the beginning, choose the biggest one . Sushi was very delicious, offering their unique twist to a familiar fish. The bar is what you expect when going to a nice omakase spot. Sleek and tasteful. Since they are still busy with being a new restaurant you are limited to your 1.5 hour time slot. I do wish I could have continued to order more sushi at the end and drink at the bar. We were offered to continue to drinking in the booths behind. If you don't have reservations I believe you can get there early at 5 to get on the list at 5:15 when they take names down for seats. Absolutely worth trying out!

Had a great omakase experience--great food and amazing vibes! The fish was incredibly fresh and I enjoyed every course. There were some traditional/familiar flavors mixed with new age twists on how they prepared the nigiri. Here's the order of what was served: Washington oyster Seabass Halibut Hokkaido scallop Norway ocean trout Japan yellowtail Amberjack Blue fin tuna Alaska sweet shrimp Stripejack Greece black snapper Chutoro Hokkaido crab Toro/negitoro Fresh water eel Blue crab hand roll The service was great, loved that we were able to choose our own sake glass. The speakeasy style sushi bar provided an intimate dinner experience. Each piece came out quick and tasted amazing! Can't wait to come back!

Perfect celebration night, starting with cocktails at Highball and ending with 16-piece omakase at Naisho (plus an uni toast add-on for fun!) We felt well-cared for from start to finish, and will definitely be back soon! Food/drinks: omakase offerings were well-composed, beautiful and delicious! We each chose cocktails recommended to complement the meal, and were happy to enjoy some sake with Chef Alex as well. The menu will change seasonally, so we look forward to future visits!

What a wonderful concept. Reservations is through open table and I actually ditched a friend to come here solo because I think it's easier to get a solo reservation and I was right I snagged the last spot on a Sunday night at 6pm. Upon arrival they ask you to ring their doorbell and someone opens the door to welcome you in. You can't just show up you need reservations for the omakase. I am not sure about how you get a seat at highball the front of the house cocktail bar or whiskey bar concept. It is cozy as I think Highball has the bar area and a couple of tables. You are then escorted at the back of the house like in those spy movies as the wall opened to reveal the 14 seat sushi bar. There were 3 sushi chef at the counter and it's 4 guest per chef. So you get good attention and your sushi is prepared at the same time as everyone else. I went with the recommended cocktail and that was delicious. Overall the sushi was fresh, you can probably find more creative sushi prep in other Omakase places, I am giving this a 5 star rating because it is truly an experience and good value proposition, as a matter of fact Im coming back again this Sunday. See you soon.

We finally got to try Naisho. We did the 16 courses menu and the food and service were both up to my standards. The chef's use of unique toppings and aged soy sauce elevated the natural sweetness of the fish. Each piece was perfectly seasoned--no extra soy sauce needed. The atmosphere is serene and the chef is happy to explain the origin of every fish. You can really taste the 'ocean-to-table' quality here. The textures were incredible, from the snap of the shrimp to the melt-in-your-mouth fatty tuna. They also had sweet shrimp which was one of my favorites. Not all omakases offer sweet shrimp as part of their menu. Since Naisho does offer sweet shrimp on their 16 courses, this is a plus for me so we will be back for sure! Exceeded all expectations

We could not tell the difference between regular salmon and the salmon belly nigri they brought us. It looked and tasted exactly the same. Definitely not fatty salmon belly. 3. The yellow tail belly was chewy. 4. All the fish in their nigri sushi were thinly cut with very little rice. Definitely all you can eat amount of fish. 5. I also had to use the restroom really bad. I walked in and spoke with a lady at the front counter and I told her I needed a table for 1 but before I was to be seated I needed to use the restroom. She looked at me with a skeptical look and asked me "Are you just trying to use the restroom? Are you really gonna eat here or just use the restroom and leave?" in a very condescending tone. The way she looked at me and spoke to me made me feel like someone off the street, a bum, trying to use the restroom. I'm Latino and a blue collar worker who wears work boots and work pants, so I feel like my appearance made her feel comfortable to question me and speak to me the way she did. If I was a white dude in regular clothes I highly doubt she would've talked to me like that. I insisted I was there to dine in but that I really needed to use the restroom first. After I convinced her, she pointed to the right corner of the restaurant and told me to go ahead. I was halfway to the restroom when I said you know what, **** this. I'm not spending my money where I'm not being treated with respect. I did an about face and started walking out and the lady asked me if the restroom was closed or something but I told her I didn't want to eat there anymore. I will never give this business another cent. Treat your customers with respect.

I really enjoyed our date night at this sushi restaurant! Overall I felt like the sushi was…read morehigh-quality and had a lot of unique flavors that kept things fresh and exciting. You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

Celebrated our anniversary !…read more Service was good and friendly. The flavors were beautiful! We sat like in the center of the restaurant. It's one of my fear LOL. But the flavors of the dishes eased my fear. It was delicious. I love salmon and uni when it comes to sushi and I would recommend others to try this place! Several people already saw my instagram post and asked the name of the restaurant! I'm very happy that the food turned out phenomenal! Toyko nacho (recommend) : it was messy to eat and had a kick of spice. I didn't mind the mess though. Lots of different flavors. Uni hotate yuzu: scallops topped with uni. Eating it was like butter. Sour flavor profile from the yuzu. A bit overpowering. And the maldon sea salt was interesting. So you get the texture of buttery soft from the scallop and uni and a crunch factor from the salt. 5pc Salmon nigiri: so fatty and buttery! If you love salmon then definitely get this. The presentation was so cute. It lays on a bed of ice. And throughout the dinner the pieces of salmon were chilled. Monster nigiri (recommend) : I don't think anything about this when my honey suggested order this. But once it got to the table and we ate it. Wow! This dish flavors stood out to me. The crispy sweet onions and sauce perfected the meal. Dragon: It was pretty tasty and decent. I know my honey liked it a lot. He prefers not to eat raw fish, so this was to his liking (I recommend to those who don't eat raw fish). Truffle essence (recommend) : The taste of truffle is weirdly addicting. The presentation was eye catching because the candle is keeping the truffle butter warm. The concept of dipping or pouring the truffle butter onto the roll was a fun way of eating. Snowflake roll: A lot of reviews mentioned this was a popular dish. I can see why it was popular. It's literally a bunch of fish in a roll! Haha, fish lover this would be perfect to order. Crunchy roll: It was a decent roll, but a bit dryer than I expected. Orders and ratings: Tokyo nacho 9/10. Uni hotate yuzu 10/10. 5pc Salmon nigiri 10/10. Monster 11/10. Dragon 8/10. Truffle essence 9/10. Snowflake roll 10/10. Crunchy roll 6/10. Thank you!

We got a crunch roll and two other rolls and they were fabulous. Just what we wanted, nice fresh sushi. The place is small and quiet and makes for a very nice date night, I am excited to get back and try the sake menu and have a nice time with my wife. I am over the delivery app deals that suck me in! We ordered crispy rice for the appetizer and it was absolutely delicious except for the fact that the rice was a bit thick so it was harder to eat. Maybe if it was on the flatter side, it would have been more enjoyable. We got soft shell roll and also a variety of nigiri. The fish for the nigiri was fresh and the rice to fish ratio wasn't bad. The roll was alright. Nothing to rave about. Overall experience here was pleasant and I would come back again if I'm in the area.

The evening already started off on a bad note as there doesn't seem to be an organized waitlist system -- they seat parties based on whoever arrives first but we were seated after a party that came later despite having the same number of people... After waiting around 15 minutes, we were seated and started ordering what we wanted. Our waitress was busy handling other tables so we had to ask another waiter on 2 separate occasions for water cups, plates, utensils, etc. He seemed confused why our table wasn't prepared adequately. Our first appetizers finally arrived after 30 minutes which included the edamame, some tempura/dumplings, and takoyaki. The portions were tiny but good. Fast forward another 15 mins and the baked salmon roll had arrived which tasted subpar as the rice was incredibly mushy. After waiting another 15 minutes, we asked our waitress if we could just pay for what we had eaten and leave as no one had checked up on us and our order. It had been an HOUR since we were seated and no sushi rolls except one had been served. The sushi chef let us know to wait ten more minutes while he got started on our order, basically letting us know he forgot to make our food. We let our waitress know that we refused to wait any longer and to charge us for what was already served to which she replied with a snotty tone that other places will have longer wait times and rolled her eyes. The sushi chef was kind enough to comp our meal after this disaster, but the waitress left a bad taste in our mouth. Won't be coming back here.

The parking garage has many underground levels and is often very busy. I was lucky to grab one of the last few spaces on the second level down on an early Tuesday evening. The interior is trendy with lots of neon signs, cool wall décor, stylish seating, and an attractive bar. In addition to booth and half-booth/half-table seating, they also have two enclosed glass wall rooms for more intimate dining. We went for the all-you-can-eat dinner, which is $38.99 per person for the regular menu or $45.99 per person for the premium menu. We wanted to have the premium menu, but one person in our group of four was running late. We asked if we could have the premium menu and just get regular menu items until they arrived. We didn't think it would be a big deal, but our server said everybody had to be there at the beginning to order premium. We ordered a rainbow roll to hold us over until our friend finally arrived. We had various nigiri including salmon, tuna, albacore, yellowtail, sweet shrimp, scallop, eel, uni, masago, salmon egg, as well as soft shell crab, broiled and fried mussels, octopus, and shishito peppers. There were probably some other items I forgot. Everything was generally good, although a few pieces of tuna were a little on the dry side. Slow service the main issue. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and it seemed like there was only one server who I'm sure was trying her best. It often took quite a while for food to arrive, and several of our orders were mistakenly delivered to the table next to us. We thought we were done, and at the very end another large plate came out including some of the premium items we never got earlier. The meal was ok, but we probably wouldn't return.

Some of the fish is genuinely high-quality and worth the tag, but the cost across the board is what keeps it from being a perfect 5/5 for me. Pro Tip: They do validate parking, which is a huge plus! Beef Tantan Nabe -- 5/5 This was my favorite thing here! It's creamy, delicious, and I've never actually had this dish at any other Japanese restaurant. A must-order. Miyabi Tai Carpaccio -- 5/5 So yummy. It has a great combination of flavors and the fish was buttery, it literally melted in my mouth. Toro Roll -- 5/5 Super tasty. They put real gold on it, which felt so extra, but it was actually a great-tasting roll. Blue Crab Hot Pot -- 4/5 This was really good, and I especially loved the char on the rice. Maguro Kajime -- 3.5/5 This was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it felt a little expensive for what it was--taste-wise, it was just whatever. Final Thoughts: Overall, all of the dishes were solid, but you're definitely paying for the experience.
