This was by far the worst sushi buffet experience I've ever had. The food tasted spoiled and had a garbage-like smell. When I told the waitress, she dismissed it and suggested maybe I'm "picky" and should just add lemon to fix the smell. Even the roe on some sushi tasted bitter. We were told we could order three rounds and advised to order the limited "special" items in the first round -- which we did. Unfortunately, they were all terrible. The octopus was rubbery and tough like leather. The sushi rice tasted old and stale. The seaweed around the rolls was clearly pre-wrapped long ago and smelled rotten. Some of the fish even had a yellowish color from sitting too long. We couldn't even finish the first round and told them we were still hungry but the food was inedible. They still charged us extra for uneaten items as a "buffet penalty," which almost doubled our bill. The portions weren't large -- they were just bad. To make things worse, there was a sign in the restroom asking customers not to throw food away and instead admit they couldn't eat it, which made it feel like they expect this to happen and profit from it. I've tried sushi at many places across Orange County and have never experienced anything this bad. We left still hungry, with a terrible aftertaste. Even after washing my hands multiple times, they smelled like garbage, and I later got nausea and diarrhea. Absolutely would not recommend.

Absolutely delicious all you can eat sushi for under $40, something unheard of these days! Highly recommend recommended!

AYCE pricing as of 1/18/2026
Sandra L.

This review isn't about the food, but the inconsistencies in their service/information. I called on Sunday, January 18, 2026 to confirm with a nice lady over the phone that they are keeping their regular lunch AYCE pricing on January 19, 2026 - MLK Day. I wanted to make sure that my coworkers and I are not walking into some special holiday pricing, so I made sure to confirm that the day prior. To my disappointment, I showed up right at opening on MLK day and the gentleman who was wiping the window on the door said it is only dinner/Premium pricing all day. I was pissed, annoyed, and embarrassed while apologizing to my co-workers who was expecting to pay the regular pricing. We left and I don't want to return because I'm pretty taken back by this.

A pretty good deal for their lunch happy hour. But expect the mediocre freshness of some things. The service can be more improved, they're a little clueless about the menu. The rice is also a little questionable. I don't think they used Japanese sushi rice for it, it's just me. But two stars for the lunch deal. But it definitely fills the stomach. Not for the sophisticated sushi clientele!

Great $24.95 AYCE happy hour deal, and good service. Portions were big and waiters were attentive. Would come again!

We tried Koyi Sushi after watching an Instagram reel about all the various rolls and fish on the menu! The restaurant is relatively small with almost entirely indoor seating including a sushi bar and standard booths and tables. When we were there, one server managed the customers while two chefs worked behind the bar, so this made service a little slow sometimes. The menu itself has some pretty decent items but nothing that really blew our socks off: our favorites were by far the magnolia roll, cajun tuna sushi, burrito roll, salmon, eel, and baked green mussels! We also tried the salmon skin salad, samurai roll, shrimp sushi, tuna sushi, albacore sushi, and several other rolls. I enjoyed our visit here, but I wouldn't say the fish quality and service were worth the price we paid for AYCE ($38.95 per person).

My husband and I came here for weekday AYCE lunch and were impressed by the food quality, flavors, and service. Though the restaurant doesn't have much seating, we only had to wait a few minutes for them to clean a table and seat us. Our food came out fast and I got to have my favorites like calamari, eel handrolls, and salmon nigiri. The mango salad was also tasty. We noticed that although the rules state they will charge for excess food, the waitress was kind not to charge a group of teenage boys next to us who over-ordered and were so terrified that they couldn't finish their food. That's great hospitality.

One of my biggest pet peeves about certain sushi joints is the rice is too cold. Koyi rice temperature on the rolls were on point and I was so happy. Thank you for getting the basics correct. I enjoyed the happy hour special. Variety was good enough to pick and choose hopefully even for those picky roll eaters.

Slimey and old fish. Absolute rip off. Would avoid. Infinitely better options around Costa Mesa.

It was an unplanned visit, but I really enjoyed the meal. Both the price and the atmosphere were absolutely perfect.

Perfect casual spot to grab sushi with friends & family. Parking: Free parking lot. Easy to find a spot. Ambiance/Environment: It's a very casual spot. They have a medium sized space with a decent amount of indoor seating. You can choose to sit at the bar or table. Service: Everyone was courteous, quick, & efficient! The server checked on me a few times ensuring if I needed anything. Since I sat at the bar, the sushi chefs were also making conversations with me. Foods: Their fish was fresh, smooth, and delicious! I absolutely enjoyed everything! I saw they're most popular for the Lemon Peppered Salmon. I can agree, now I know why it's so popular. My favorite rolls are the Mango Salmon special roll. The mango sauce was sooo good! It was a tad sweet but balanced well with the salmon. Although the bluefin tuna was limited per person, it was so delicious. 1. Diablo Roll (special rolls) 2. Mango Salmon Roll (special rolls) 3. Magnolia (no rice rolls) 4. Salmon Skin (hand rolls) 5. Popcorn Crawfish (baked & tempura rolls) 6. Mango Avocado Salad 7. Peppered Salmon (sushi) 8. Ikura (sushi) 9. Bluefin Tuna (sushi) 10. Jalapeño Bomb (appetizer) Pricing: Definitely worth its AYCE price! There's so many options in each category. I only lasted 1.5 rounds lol.

I actually quite like this place. I came to this place a couple times and enjoyed my time here, either with a group of people or by myself. I would go back again. The turnaround rate from ordering to receiving was kind of slower than other AYCE sushi locations I've been to, but it made up in the taste for the most part. Rice can be a hit or miss here sometimes, but it's usually pretty good. The fish was fresh and the plating was beautiful when I ate here alone! I honestly love their mozzarella sticks it just hits the spot for me. There's no limit on how much you can order, but there is a maximum of 3 rounds of ordering. The servers (only male ones) I encountered were friendly and attentive, too. Refilled my water and was there for my next order either before or soon after finishing my round. However, I usually go during lunch (1-2) when it's not so busy. Overall, enjoy coming here and I think you pay for what you get.

AYCE Sushi ($40/pp)

Another AYCE Sushi discovery! This place is $40/person with quite a few options. My favorite was the Salmon nigiri because the fish practically melted in your mouth. I noticed the rice to fish ratio was pretty good and worth it. There weren't as many options as I'd like here, but it gets the job done. Service was quick for a party of 5! Disregard the environment they're located in and you'll have yourself a decent meal.

Today we went there not knowing of the change. The food is now certainly "all you can eat" quality. We opted against the all you can eat limited menu, and ordered of the regular menu but the quality was terrible: 1. The toro nigri was chewy, very thinly cut, with a very small piece of rice. 2. We could not tell the difference between regular salmon and the salmon belly nigri they brought us. It looked and tasted exactly the same. Definitely not fatty salmon belly. 3. The yellow tail belly was chewy. 4. All the fish in their nigri sushi were thinly cut with very little rice. Definitely all you can eat amount of fish. 5. The rolls were small and for some reason all tasted the same with little flavor. If you like all you can eat sushi places which always offer low quality fish, you might like this place. We will miss sushi Imari and the great quality sushi they served.

She looked at me with a skeptical look and asked me "Are you just trying to use the restroom? Are you really gonna eat here or just use the restroom and leave?" in a very condescending tone. The way she looked at me and spoke to me made me feel like someone off the street, a bum, trying to use the restroom. I'm Latino and a blue collar worker who wears work boots and work pants, so I feel like my appearance made her feel comfortable to question me and speak to me the way she did. If I was a white dude in regular clothes I highly doubt she would've talked to me like that. I insisted I was there to dine in but that I really needed to use the restroom first. After I convinced her, she pointed to the right corner of the restaurant and told me to go ahead. I was halfway to the restroom when I said you know what, **** this. I'm not spending my money where I'm not being treated with respect. I did an about face and started walking out and the lady asked me if the restroom was closed or something but I told her I didn't want to eat there anymore. I high-tailed it out of there and went to Chopob sushi down the street where I was treated much kinder and got to use the restroom before being seated, without question. I will never give this business another cent. Treat your customers with respect.

You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

But the flavors of the dishes eased my fear. It was delicious. I love salmon and uni when it comes to sushi and I would recommend others to try this place! Several people already saw my instagram post and asked the name of the restaurant! I'm very happy that the food turned out phenomenal! Toyko nacho (recommend) : it was messy to eat and had a kick of spice. I didn't mind the mess though. Lots of different flavors. Uni hotate yuzu: scallops topped with uni. Eating it was like butter. Sour flavor profile from the yuzu. A bit overpowering. And the maldon sea salt was interesting. So you get the texture of buttery soft from the scallop and uni and a crunch factor from the salt. 5pc Salmon nigiri: so fatty and buttery! If you love salmon then definitely get this. The presentation was so cute. It lays on a bed of ice. And throughout the dinner the pieces of salmon were chilled. Monster nigiri (recommend) : I don't think anything about this when my honey suggested order this. But once it got to the table and we ate it. Wow! This dish flavors stood out to me. The crispy sweet onions and sauce perfected the meal. Dragon: It was pretty tasty and decent. I know my honey liked it a lot. He prefers not to eat raw fish, so this was to his liking (I recommend to those who don't eat raw fish). Truffle essence (recommend) : The taste of truffle is weirdly addicting. The presentation was eye catching because the candle is keeping the truffle butter warm. The concept of dipping or pouring the truffle butter onto the roll was a fun way of eating. Snowflake roll: A lot of reviews mentioned this was a popular dish. I can see why it was popular. It's literally a bunch of fish in a roll! Haha, fish lover this would be perfect to order. Crunchy roll: It was a decent roll, but a bit dryer than I expected. Orders and ratings: Tokyo nacho 9/10. Uni hotate yuzu 10/10. 5pc Salmon nigiri 10/10. Monster 11/10. Dragon 8/10. Truffle essence 9/10. Snowflake roll 10/10. Crunchy roll 6/10. Thank you!

In addition to booth and half-booth/half-table seating, they also have two enclosed glass wall rooms for more intimate dining. We went for the all-you-can-eat dinner, which is $38.99 per person for the regular menu or $45.99 per person for the premium menu. We wanted to have the premium menu, but one person in our group of four was running late. We asked if we could have the premium menu and just get regular menu items until they arrived. We didn't think it would be a big deal, but our server said everybody had to be there at the beginning to order premium. We ordered a rainbow roll to hold us over until our friend finally arrived. We had various nigiri including salmon, tuna, albacore, yellowtail, sweet shrimp, scallop, eel, uni, masago, salmon egg, as well as soft shell crab, broiled and fried mussels, octopus, and shishito peppers. There were probably some other items I forgot. Everything was generally good, although a few pieces of tuna were a little on the dry side. Slow service the main issue. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and it seemed like there was only one server who I'm sure was trying her best. It often took quite a while for food to arrive, and several of our orders were mistakenly delivered to the table next to us. We thought we were done, and at the very end another large plate came out including some of the premium items we never got earlier. The meal was ok, but we probably wouldn't return.

Beyond the freshness, I loved the creative touches--they clearly put a lot of thought into the garnishes and sauces. The service was attentive, and the restaurant has a great energy. Some of the fish is genuinely high-quality and worth the tag, but the cost across the board is what keeps it from being a perfect 5/5 for me. Pro Tip: They do validate parking, which is a huge plus! Beef Tantan Nabe -- 5/5 This was my favorite thing here! It's creamy, delicious, and I've never actually had this dish at any other Japanese restaurant. A must-order. Miyabi Tai Carpaccio -- 5/5 So yummy. It has a great combination of flavors and the fish was buttery, it literally melted in my mouth. Toro Roll -- 5/5 Super tasty. They put real gold on it, which felt so extra, but it was actually a great-tasting roll. Blue Crab Hot Pot -- 4/5 This was really good, and I especially loved the char on the rice. Maguro Kajime -- 3.5/5 This was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it felt a little expensive for what it was--taste-wise, it was just whatever. Final Thoughts: Overall, all of the dishes were solid, but you're definitely paying for the experience.
