We arrived at the parking lot and already saw a bit of a crowd waiting outside, so we knew we picked the right spot! Our initial wait time was supposed to be 20 minutes but it got extended by an additional 15 minutes. We were willing to wait as we could tell if we went anywhere else it would be the same situation. Once we were called up we were seated right away. The space inside is small but they also offer outdoor seating, we requested indoor since it was hot. Our server stopped by and asked us what we'd like to drink and also mentioned if you follow them on Instagram you get a free can of soda! So we did and got a can each. She gave us time to look over the menu and we filled out the sheet provided. This isn't AYCE so make sure you order as much as you can finish! We ordered the following: Salmon Blue Crab Fatty Tuna sushi Cucumber wrap Zen roll Baked scallops roll Popcorn roll New Style Salmon Sashimi (my favorite) Everything was great, tasted fresh and had the right proportions! 9/27 -- 2:30 Takeout Order…read more I placed a takeout order and specifically requested extra salad dressing on the side, which I was willing to pay extra for. When I picked up my order, I even asked if the dressing was included, and I was told that they had put it in the bag. When I got home, however, there was only one dressing included. I called the restaurant to ask about it, and the employee told me that a regular takeout order does not come with dressing. If that is truly the case, does that mean the restaurant expects takeout customers to eat the cabbage without any dressing, while dine-in customers receive dressing with their meal? More importantly, if dressing is not included with takeout orders, the customer should be notified when placing or picking up the order--especially when the customer specifically asked for extra dressing and even confirmed it at pickup. I should not have to find out after getting home. On top of that, the katsu sauce container was only half-filled, despite being a 2-ounce sauce cup. Seriously? Even worse, I found a hair coming out of the sauce container, which is extremely concerning from a food hygiene standpoint. What made the experience even worse was the way my concern was handled over the phone. If you are working in customer service and someone calls with a legitimate question or complaint, there is no reason to be rude or dismissive. This was by far the worst customer experience I've had at Kagura. There were only two tables occupied when I visited, yet the restaurant couldn't even properly handle a simple takeout order. Very disappointing. The manager or owner should seriously consider providing additional hospitality and customer-service training to the lady staff. The rolls were terrible, loosely rolled, drowned in sauce, and lacking flavor. The nigiri was the only thing that saved the meal. The fish-to-rice ratio was good but the fish itself was mediocre. They advertise bluefin tuna toro but what we got was more like negitoro rather than an actual piece of toro nigiri. The salmon belly also seemed exactly like the regular salmon with no noticeable difference. Service definitely needs improvement too. Whenever we needed something, the staff were nowhere to be found or cleaning instead of checking on tables. For the price, I expected a lot better in both food and service. With so many AYCE sushi options at a similar price point, I'd rather go somewhere else next time.
