Mazemen with Karaage
Clarice D.

Small local ramen shop that I love going to. I always get the Tsukemen with Chashu and it hits the spot everyyyy time! There aren't that many places in OC that serve Tsukemen, and this is my favorite in the area so far. Fried octopus/squid legs are also so yummy. My bf got the Mazemen and he really enjoyed it, though it was on the sweeter side for my taste. Everything comes out hot and fresh, and service is always friendly.

We had a great time here. We came here with a large party and it was a great decision. We started with the gyoza, they were some of the best I have ever had. The skin is thin and crispy. The filling is plentiful and delicious. For my main I got the black garlic ramen - with tofu, pork broth, and wavy noodles. It came with a perfectly done hard-boiled egg. I usually like to add some kind of vegetable but this time I kept it simple. The black garlic is not too strong, very smooth, and a little sweet. The tofu is lightly crisped on the outside, a very nice touch! The decorum around the restaurant is super fun and really enjoyable to look at. I kept finding new things to be excited about during my meal. The service was attentive and friendly, everyone was happy to see us.

Kashiwa Ramen is a casual ramen shop in a plaza with other stores and restaurants. There is ample parking. Came here with some friends on a Friday evening and it was busy but we were able to get a table easily. We all ordered different ramens. I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen with a mix of Chicken and Tonkotsu broth, pork meat, wavy noodles, green onions, and wood ear mushrooms. One of my friends ordered the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen and the other ordered the Malatang Ramen which is a winter special. Our food came out quickly. Portions seem to be on the smaller side. The Black Garlic Ramen had good flavor and was pretty garlicky. The noodles had some chew to them. It also came with half of an egg and three pieces of Chashu. I tried the broths of the other two. The Yuzu Shoyu was light in flavor but the yuzu comes through. The Malatang Ramen was very spicy, and my friend ordered the Mild version. Our server mentioned that people who order the Spicy version more often than not cannot finish it because it is too spicy. Overall, giving Kashiwa Ramen a 4/5. This is a solid place for ramen. Would recommend to others and would return.

Black garlic ramen + spicy miso ramen + karage

Saw this place on tiktok and decided to give it a try! This place looked delish and it ended up being delish :) Service was friendly and I liked that the restaurant had both bar and booth table seating... felt quite cozy, especially on a cold autumn night! The ordering process was smooth and I thought it was smart to have us order via paper + highlighter as we were able to customize our ramen to our liking, from the type of noodles to flavor to any add-ons. We ended up getting the black garlic ramen and spicy miso ramen: BLACK GARLIC RAMEN The taste of the broth itself presented a unique and beautifully layered assortment of flavors that made the entire experience much more mesmerizing than other ramen I've had. I opted for the wavy noodle option, and I believe that was the correct choice as it provided a nice and firm bouncy texture!! The pork chasu was roasted nicely and was tasty as well! -- 7/10 SPICY MISO RAMEN Awesome, but not great!! I think I've had better in the past, but this particular bowl did not stand out to me... it was perfectly spiced, but lacked the depth of flavor that the black garlic ramen provided. It almost tasted flat!! -- 6/10 Parking was easy to find. Overall, good solid ramen place.

Spicy Miso Ramen with Pork Cha-shu

Delicious ramen! The spicy miso ramen with pork is my favorite. It is rich and flavorful. There is usually a very small wait and the service is fast and efficient. It's a small intimate restaurant and is my go to ramen spot. Would recommend trying it out!

Honestly surprised how many high ratings this place has. The food itself was alright, your standard ramen, nothing too unique. Being a foodie and having tried many places, I would probably not come back here for ramen as there's plenty of better options. The service itself was terrible. The server looked like she didn't even want to be there, and when asked a question, looked extremely bothered. Honestly the service really ruined my experience here, they need to find more friendly staff. The menu itself was pretty outdated and disorganized. One server told us the items on the wall were different than the menu, but another server said it was the same and to just mark it on the paper. Very confusing. You have the option to choose the firmness of the noodle, and I asked what the standard is. The staff said they didn't know, and just walked away. Yes, its a cute cozy restaurant with plenty of parking. But would not come back just for ramen.

Excellent depth and flavor in each and every bite here. The broth for both malatang and black garlic ramen is really extraordinary today. Really enjoyed my fresh hot deliciousness of Authentic Hakata ramen from Japan today. Especially after the beautiful rain a nice salty flavorful bowl of spicy ramen hits all the high notes of my day. Come back and enjoy the taste of Costa Mesa with the OG Kashiwa Ramen soup noodles. You will fall in love all over again and again.

Gyoza

My gyoza was burnt and inedible. I don't think the noodles for the ramen were of good quantity either.

Kashiwa Ramen was such a great discovery for me. It was actually the first time I had ramen that I truly enjoyed. What I really appreciated is that they offer different broth options, not just pork like many ramen places. Since I don't usually eat pork, it's often hard for me to find ramen I can enjoy. I ordered the ramen with chicken broth and tofu, and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was clean, light, and flavorful without any overpowering smells or heavy taste. A really great spot if you're looking for a comforting bowl of ramen with more options than the usual pork broth.

Swirl Ramen
Adam M.

This was my first time here, my girlfriends second. I got the swirl ramen (combination of chicken and pork broth) with pork and wavy noodles. I've never seen the swirl broth option and I was pleasantly surprised. The creaminess of the chicken and richness of the pork broth synergize quite well. My girlfriend got the spicy ramen with tonkotsu and wavy noodles. I'm not sure what the straight noodles would look like. We both really enjoyed our meals. The portions were generous and the service was great. Highly recommend!

Ask the Community - Kashiwa Ramen

What kind of broth do you have?

Hello We have Tonkotsu (pork)…

Been here multiple times, but sometimes tsukemen is served with 3 pieces of chashu, other times served with 4 pieces. Anyone knows why?

Thank you for your question. It depends on the size of the char-sui. Usually, 3piecess adds up to a total of 120-150 grams. However, sometimes the chef puts four pieces when it is small pieces. Sorry for the confusion

Is the gyoza chicken or pork?

It's only chicken and pork. No one or the other

Is the vegetable ramen low carb?

Not if you get the ramen noodles...

Is there vegetarian options?

Yes they have two vegetarian options. In fact they have Vegan options.

Are they serving tsukemen now?

Yes, we have chicken broth Tsukemen serving w/ authentic thick noodle. FYI I'm sorry, but we are out of thick noodle tonight 1/17, however we will sure have tomorrow. Thank you.

Is the broth only made of chicken ? No pork bone or anything right?

Yes, we use only Chicken bones not pork bones at all :) and for Combu (Kelp) broth, we use Combu and Shitake, no fish or bonito. Thank you.

Do they have gluten free noodles?

No, not that I've seen on the menu

Are there vegetarian or any vegan options?

Yes, there's a Kombu Ramen which made of seaweed.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

FAVORITE ITEMS: - Black King: personally, I knew I would love this one because of the squid ink and garlic, I am a sucker for these! But I felt that the ramen flavor was balanced and rich. I compared it to my husband's Original King, which was a lighter broth despite him choosing a spicier version. I did extra garlic because I like it that way, normal noodles, cabbage, and thin noodles. Add a jammy egg and it's the best! Overall, really solid, and I'm thinking about it already! PARKING: decent. Just a note, it's at the part of South Coast that is not part of the main mall, so you have to cross a bridge. If you find the parking allocated for this area, then it's pretty easy to walk to. SERVICE: good! Our server, I didn't get his name, was from Okinawa and really described each flavor. He came by to check up on us during our time there to make sure we loved the ramen. So attentive and everyone was very friendly! PRICE: decent for ramen. It's $17.50 per bowl, plus the $2.50 for the jammy egg. These days, that's the price of a meal haha. Overall, a very solid option for ramen when you are in the area. Would recommend for you ramen lovers for sure!

The server doesn't apologize - he states it's already been picked up. How? I ask if they don't verify the DoorDash confirmation for pickup. The server Kendrick tells me they do, but scammers show up with the exact order confirmation screen and pick up orders. Honestly sounds like BS to me, considering they have pickup orders by the front door on a shelf that anyone could take. Either way, the lack of an immediate apology or questions to clarify just point to the fact that he assumed immediately I was a scammer. Okay, annoying. But whatever. I want my food. I ask to have it remade - they're still seating people and people are ordering. They're not closing anytime soon. He tells me they won't remake it. I ask why and he continues to insinuate I'm a scammer and a thief trying to pick up someone else's order. He tells me to cancel my order. I'm beyond pissed at this point because I can't even get a refund via DoorDash because it's already being prepared. So I go back and talk to him again. He continues to refuse to cancel the order or remake it. He gets on the phone with a "Peter" who he claims is the manager. It gets really fun from here. Peter listens to my story and says there's nothing they can do. He says scammers do that all the time, and every restaurant deals with it. Okay, so how has it never happened to me at ANY restaurant? And how have I NEVER heard of it happening? So Peter, after refusing to do anything for me for a while, finally says he'll talk to the server to try and cancel the order from their end. Fine. I hand the phone back to Kendrick and he walks inside. I wait 7 min and no updates. So I go inside and ask him if he's canceling the order. He says, "what do you mean?" I tell him the manager said he'd tell him to cancel the order. Kendrick says, "he was telling you to do that". More gaslighting lmfaoooooo. I tell him no, he told you to. Again, I'm pissed beyond belief at this point and again, I can't get a refund via DoorDash because it's already "being prepared". You would think saying that 3 times is enough for them to finally get it but no. I wasted 20 min driving here, and another 25 waiting for a resolution for this BS. Kendrick tells me he can't cancel the order twice. I just ignore him and wait. 3 min later he goes "I canceled it". Like... you guys are acting like I'm the scammer when you clearly are the ones trying to pull some shady stuff. I FINALLY get my refund and Kendrick says, "sorry I just work here." Brother, that's not your line. You say that when, for example, corporate has a policy that no one likes. This all stemmed from you and your team's incompetence. The lying and gaslighting is absolutely crazy. 25 min and they either could've just refunded me or remade my order. A waste of time. I'll never visit any Slurpin again - this was just pathetic. Not a single bit of sincerity or willingness to help. The manager sounded like he was tired of talking to me, and our conversation lasted 2 min (I'm not even exaggerating). If you want food, don't go here. If you want to keep your money, don't come here. However, if you want to be treated like a liar and a scammer from the second you walk in, then this place is perfect.
