We decided to come five this place a try since it just opened up! I know the old place was the La Shrimp so we were interested in seeing what this place had to offer. Parking is super easy here since the Amazon Fresh is gone sadly Wait was around 30 minutes but that was only because they had the soft opening half off ramen special Service is pretty fast and they're all friendly. We were pretty full from sushi earlier so we just got a ramen to share. Black Garlic Chicken Paitan took a little bit longer than expected but I think the other chef was on his break so it was only one guy doing everything. Flavor wise I like it though since it's not as heavy as tonkatsu. Chicken was very tender. However, the entire bowl doesn't WOW me too much. I definitely want to come back to try the Chukosoba and Fried Chicken they had. As it came out to other tables it looked GOOD! Overall, I like the chill ambiance and fast casual. I'm sure they're working out the kinks as any new place does!

Nice to attend the grand opening day of this new location since the Yorba Linda location is closed. Located off the 405 freeway and just south, the new location is larger, has a beautiful hand sketched mural and has an open floorplan. There's plenty of complimentary parking since it's in a large strip center. We arrived before they opened which is 11:30 am.The chef and now manager Naoki Akimoto, trained under the legendary Kazuo Yamagishi at Japan's iconic Taishoken, bringing true Japanese craftsmanship to everything they serve. The chicken paitan broth is simmered for 24 hours and has a rich natural flavor and aromatic. The noodles are cooked perfectly, which I ordered an extra serving that came out piping hot. Ordered karaage chicken as our appetizer and it tasted exactly like their original location that I frequented in Yorba Linda, CA. I ordered the black paitan Chasau ramen and it was piping hot and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive by the entire staff, and they were on point even though the line wrapped around the building and some customers waited over 90 minutes to get a table. Congrats to Ramen Akimoto's new location and come by to try their Japanese cuisine.

Opening weekend and already such a standout. It's always a joy to support a new business that clearly cares about what they're doing--and it shows in every bowl. Their specialty is Chicken Paitan ramen, a rich, creamy, milky-white chicken broth that's an alternative to the traditional pork-based tonkotsu. It was my first time trying it, and I was impressed. The broth is deeply savory, comforting, and full of flavor--honestly, it reminded me of an elevated Japanese chicken noodle soup. Perfect healing remedy for when you're under the weather. It's also the kind of bowl you crave on a cold day or whenever you just want something warm, soothing, and satisfying. I also love that this is a great option for anyone who can't have or prefers to avoid pork-based broths. Thoughtful and delicious. And collagen-rich to boot! Their basic ramen comes with your choice of tender, succulent chicken or pork chashu, plus wood ear mushrooms and green onions--all prepared with care and balance. Plentiful parking in this shopping center. Business Hours Monday - Friday 11:30am - 3:00pm 5:30pm - 11:00pm  Saturday 11:30am - 11:00pm  Sunday 11:30am - 9:00pm Closed on Tuesdays in April

Ramen Akimoto is located in in a fairly large shopping center. So parking isn't an issue. The ambiance was very laid back with some nice decor. The food was lacking seasoning and definitely fell short and over priced for what I got. The service had to be the most disappointing part of my visit. My server wasn't really attentive to my family I which was understandable he was the only server there. However, the server definitely lacked professionalism. When I got the bill the server started pressuring me to pay him more than 10%. Now I don't mind paying but for mediocre service and for 2 ramen bowls and an order gyoza for 70 bucks HELL NAW !

    Jiro style ramen

Best authentic Jiro style ramen you can get in OC/LA county. Jiro is a cult favorite and Akimoto does a great job executing this style of ramen here in the states. Service is more than what I'd expect at a busy ramen shop. Be warned, regular is 200g of noodle before cooked and large is double that.

Service was great and the food was yummy! The broth had such a good flavor and the chicken was juicy and tender. It was really good. I'll definitely be back. And, you could really feel how much the staff cared and was appreciative of the business which went a long way. Definitely recommend this place.

    Soft Opening today 4/24

Ramen Akimoto is on Brookhurst (and Talbert) next door to Urban Plates. Today 4/24 they are having a soft opening and offering the first 300 guests 50% OFF Signature Chicken Paitan. I stopped by when they first opened at 11:30 AM but the line was way too long to wait. It wrapped around Urban Plates. I'll come back to visit another time to review the ramen.

For Grand Opening Day on Friday, April 24th. We arrived at 9:45 AM to wait in line for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM and guarantee that we would be in the first seating. We got to watch as the florist delivered 2 arrangements which were added to the other congratulatory flowers and plant. Opening of the restaurant was delayed 10 minutes I think because 2 employees arrived after 11:30 AM. One staff member started going through the line to take numbers in parties. When they were ready, we were seated in line order. All members of the party had to be present, the hostess had told people in line. We had to wave someone down to give our orders on paper which was the grand opening special of the creamy chicken paitan of buy one get the second for 50% off. Daughter wanted pork instead. We also wanted green onions. I wonder if they were overcompensating for the customers who said during soft opening the soup had no flavor. I would say there was plenty of flavor. In fact, the soup was salty and I had to water it down to drink it. Disappointingly, there were only 2 slices of meat for the chicken paitan, one large one and one small one. The chicken was more tender than the pork. There was only one slice of pork. We'll know if we come again to add more toppings. It was pretty quiet, as people waited to be served, in the restaurant for a grand opening. Other customers gave permission for their photos to be taken for social media to receive a gift of a water bottle or key chain. We didn't need those items and passed on having our photos taken. The server allowed us to check the correctness of our bill. The printer malfunctioned when receipt was printed, but we did receive our receipt. We also showed their social media post that said each guest would receive a 10% coupon to return to receive the 10% coupons good until the end of May.

On April 24, 2026, my wife and I visited Ramen Akimoto for their grand opening. Even with a discount, the experience was disappointing. The service was below average--staff were not attentive or helpful, especially for a grand opening where you would expect better. We ordered the chicken paitan ramen, and it was a letdown. The noodles were acceptable, but the broth was extremely salty with a strong, unpleasant smell that made it hard to finish. Overall, this was a poor first impression. For a new restaurant, quality and execution should be at their best--but this was not the case. We will not be returning. Try it at your own risk.

$16 for a little bowl of ramen & one thin slice of pork .The store needs to fix the price or add more foods !It's so ridiculous!
    Nikki Nga L.

Updated : *** This time made me feel like the store ROBBED my money. *** Ramen standard size is worst than a kid's ramen size . The value is like $8-$9 for a little ramen and one thin slice pork for $16 !!! No, thank you . We also ordered Kara-rage chicken , they missed our order , we canceled it, but still got charged. The restaurant doesn't even print out the receipt to see what items they charged . It's so shady ! The food was good during the soft opening , that's why we come back . However , after grand opening , they charges $16 for a standard bowl of ramen with one very thin slice of meat , salty and fatty soup , service is also bad , missing oder , don't even bring out the food right . Please if you charge for your foods that much, we expect the service and the foods have to level up . I went to this ramen 2 times during soft opening . I ordered the standard size (pork) , it always came with 2 slices of pork and half of the egg . Today , I come back after the grand opening, service is terrible , especially the Hispanics waitress arguing to the clients so bad. Standard ramen came with one slice of pork for $16 before tax , that's ridiculous !! Also, we ordered Pork Katsu curry rice , they only brought out rice and curry no pork.

I was a regular at the Yorba Linda location, so when I found out they were closing, I was devastated. I found out their soft opening will be on Easter Sunday, so I gathered few of my friends and decided to drive out to FV to have dinner. They removed tsukemen off their menu, but they did add few new items. Most of us had the mazemen, and one friend had the chashu bowl. We all noticed the mazemen tasted different. They changed the noodles and the recipe; It was good, but different. I would get it again. The karaage, gyoza, and the bamboo were delicious, as usual. I hope they do well in their new location.

    Chicken karaage.
    Kevin N.

Parking is ample. Restaurant is clean and cozy. Staff was polite and pleasant. Chicken karaage was fresh, juicy, and crispy. Gyōza was homemade and juicy with a light crunch from being pan fried. Spicy chicken paitan deluxe was delicous. Broth is rich, similar to tonkotsu but feels lighter. The noodles were al dente, chashu was thick and flavorful. Tamago was perfectly boiled. Definitely will come again.

Soft opening! Always excited to try a new ramen spot. We got the deluxe black and deluxe spicy chicken paitan ramens. The standard option comes with only one piece of pork or chicken chashu and you can add from there. The deluxe will run you $23.25. We enjoyed the spicy broth way more than the black oil and I'm usually a big fan of black garlic. The ramen noodles reminded me of egg noodles and the flavored egg lacked flavor and was not your typical, runny soft boil. Only non alcoholic beverage options at this time. Overall, the ramen was a decent portion, but for the premium price, there are plenty of better, more affordable options in the area. Rating is closer to 3.5-3.8 than 4.

    Deluxe with extra noodle.

The third bowl (chicken, corn, mild, no bean sprouts) came with bean sprouts and an overwhelming amount of chili. After dealing with the first two orders, I didn't even want to send it back--I just didn't eat. It was frustrating, especially since we know how good this place can be. The ramen looked decent, vegetables, toppings were okay. But the Chashu was really tough and too fatty. The Karage (fried chicken) looked and tasted like what you would get with fish and chips. I've never had Karage like this before. The table was sticky. The child booster was also sticky. Just felt like things haven't been cleaned in a while. The only redeeming quality were the nice and friendly employees. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be coming back. There's a lot of other ramen restaurants in OC that are way better for the price.

You get a regular-sized bowl of ramen, plus your choice of either a beef rice bowl or chashu rice bowl, and a side salad. For just an additional $6 on top of the ramen you were already going to order, you get the rice bowl and salad -- which honestly makes the whole meal feel complete. We always order the Butaton ramen, and it never steers us wrong. It's consistently satisfying and comforting. Between the two rice bowl options, I definitely prefer the chashu over the beef. The chashu just has more flavor and pairs better with the ramen in my opinion. If you're deciding between the two, I'd go chashu every time. I also love how the meal flows: - The side salad adds that fresh start to the meal. -The rice bowl gives you something hearty and savory. * And then you finish strong with the ramen. We came around 1 PM on a Wednesday and were actually the only customers there. Honestly? It felt like VIP service. Our server was super friendly, accommodating, and very attentive. One thing I personally use to gauge service: if my water glass hits about 30% full, I expect it to be refilled before it's empty. And even though we were the only ones there, he was consistently on top of it. That kind of attention to detail really stands out to me. We also ordered green tea to round out the meal, and everything just felt easy and enjoyable. Overall, I keep coming back for a reason. Great value, comforting food, and attentive service. If you're going for the lunch combo, definitely choose the chashu rice bowl over the beef.

Yet, we were seated right away. We ordered two types of ramen and the ramen flavors are similar, with slight variations. I loved the melt-in-your-mouth pork, the broth was hearty, and the noodles were slurpable. We even enjoyed their spiked Japanese selzters. When we wanted to go, we did have to track down a waitress for our check, but, honestly how welcoming they were were and how cool the ambiance was made us look past this.

[Missing noodles, expensive ramen, bad customer service, and no reason to come back.]…read more I visited this restaurant to place a to-go order and picked up my food during a late lunch around 1:40 p.m. I ordered two items, including a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. When I got back to work in Santa Ana and opened my bag around 2:30 p.m., my ramen had NO NOODLES. It was literally just broth and toppings. I called the restaurant expecting a simple apology and a reasonable solution. Instead, the manager would not even speak to me directly and chose to communicate through a waiter the entire time, which made the situation even more frustrating. We went back and forth multiple times with the waiter acting as the middleman. First, they told me I could come back and pick up the missing noodles. That was not realistic. I was already back at work, and it takes me about 25 minutes to get from Fountain Valley to Santa Ana. Driving all the way back for a side of noodles made no sense. So I asked for what seemed like the easiest and most reasonable solution: a complimentary bowl of ramen on my next visit. Instead, I was told no, but they could give me "extra noodles" next time. Extra noodles next time? What exactly was that supposed to do for me when I was sitting there hungry with no actual ramen to eat that day? Then the manager, again through the waiter, said she would personally drive noodles to my job. I even told them that did not make sense because by the time she got there, it would be around 4:30 p.m. At that point, my lunch break would be long over, the ramen would be cold, and all of it would be a waste of my time, her time, restaurant resources, and gas. But I agreed, because at that point it was obvious they really did not want to simply offer me a free bowl of ramen on my next visit. And to be clear, I was not asking for some huge free meal. I was asking to be compensated for the ramen I already paid good money for and did not even receive correctly. For how expensive ramen is, that should not have been a difficult ask. About 10 minutes later, the waiter called back and said the manager would give me a free bowl of ramen next time I came in, which was the exact solution I had suggested from the start. I can only assume she realized how far the drive was and how unnecessary and impractical that solution would have been. Mistakes happen. Forgetting the noodles was one thing. But the way this was handled was unnecessarily difficult, inconvenient, and honestly kind of absurd. I did not ask for a refund. I was looking for an apology and some common-sense customer service. Instead, I got a lot of back-and-forth and a manager who would not even speak to me directly. Kudos to the waiter for doing their best to mediate the situation. Even they thought the situation could of been handled differently by the manager. Very disappointing experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to others based on how this situation was handled.

I think it was just an overall busy night with large parties during the time we went, so that's ok! The menu had an extensive variety of items to choose from. There were so many different sushi options, as well as ramen, bento boxes, appetizers, drinks, etc. We decided to order ramen and sushi. The ramen we each ordere was the Kuro Mayu. It was good, but not really my preference. The noodles also threw me off because they werent the typical ramen noodles I'm used to. Next time, I'd most likely order a different ramen. The sushi, on the other hand, was pretty good! We ordered a few plates and wanted more but were too full!! My friends also liked the muscles. Our orders came out pretty quickly and staff was kind! I love the ambience of the restaurant, too. It was nice, dimly lit, and very chill.

It really brings you back to a rational Japanese eatery with dark wood accents and lighting. The seating is comfortable and we had plenty enough space for all five of us. The parking in the lot was plentiful as well. Overall, I recommend Kopan and this location specifically. While there might be a lot of other ramen places to choose from in Orange County, Kopan offers more and does everything well.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

The hostess/waitress immediately sat us down at one of the booths and gave us a paper order sheet. There are definitely great deals for drinks as we noticed ads on the wall. We ordered ramen, cooked salmon collar, and miso soup. The restaurant wasn't that noisy and the waitress was nearby folding bags. We had asked for assistance because there wasn't any boxes for additional toppings for our ramen. She asked for spice level and went off to input our order. After a short time, our ramen arrived. We were surprised how quickly the ramen came out. My friend was curious about our other orders and we inquired with our waitress. By mistake, our waitress did not place the order for the other items. She apologized and inputted the rest of our orders. The ramen looked great! However, one of the disappointments was that the ramen broth was not spicy at all. The ramen itself and broth was a 3/5. While we did enjoy the food overall. Am I itching to come back? Not that much.
