Came here on a Saturday night. The place is quaint little place that seats about 20-22 so it's fairly small. That's about 6-7 tables of 2. Feels like one of those genuine Japanese small places. Walk in and you can smell some pungent vinegar like smell. All good. Most are to go orders.. I ordered the omelette Pork Katsu curry with side of sausage, karaage appetizer which may be the one with the slight vinegar like taste, hot green tea and a Coke can. The karaage, was just ok, but i may pass next time. The taste needs refinement and no sauce available other than ketchup. The omelette pork katsu curry was good! I'd had better, but this was good and for a large order, it was around $21. Good enough for me! Overal verdict is sure, try it!

Honestly blew my expectations! The place is pretty small so it can fill up quick. The curry was on the sweeter side which caught me by surprise, but it worked and I actually really liked it! Curry tends to taste very similar everywhere I go so was pleasantly surprised at the sweetness to this one. I didn't realize my group came 30 minutes before closing, but they didn't rush us and I even saw two more parties come in, with one showing up ten minutes before closing and I never felt like the workers were trying to get us out of there asap. While I prefer to avoid places thirty minutes before closing, I really appreciated how patient they were! I added one Shrimp katsu and potato croquette to my order but those can be skipped. Super bland but I guess that's the point, to eat it with the curry. The chicken katsu was tasty though! There was some confusion on spice levels, I asked what spice levels there were as I want the spiciest and the waitress said only mild but then when she read my order back to me, she said I got spicy. However, it didn't taste very spicy. Furikake fries were tasty but seemed like a very small portion for sharing purposes between four people. Don't think it's a spot worth waiting more than half an hour for considering the plethora of curry spots in the area, but can definitely see myself returning to grab a quick lunch!

Delicious! I got the pork katsu udon. Noodles were very chewy and the katsu was perfectly done. I would ask to have the katsu on the side if you don't want it soggy inside the soup. Staff was friendly and on top of everything. Would def come back!

Omelette pork katsu curry. So good.

Very cute little place. Seating for maybe 20 people. Curry was delicious. I got the omelette pork katsu curry and my daughter got the sukiyaki udon. The katsu was pretty big and very tasty. The curry was also very good. I got the spicy which was a mild spicy so also perfect. We both finished everything down to the last drop. Price was about normal for food these days, but the quality of the food made it well worth it. Will definitely come back.

Small Matcha Latte - was not filled to the top

First time visitor Located in a small business park / open and potential limited parking pending time of day Indoor dining only / one main room maybe 15 to 20 people pending party size. Different art on the wall to feel like being in Japan? Even I think a transportation map and photo of the city center One server for the main room who was helpful and kind in answering questions, taking orders, and serving Take out also an option Appears to have both omelet udon and rice options along with sides Loud environment it can be but definetly a easy spot to chatter or just keep to self. Family friendly, large portions shareable, date night, group outing like 2-3 maybe 4 pending how many tables are available Toast rewards available at this location Matcha latte $5 not overpowering smooth and nice floral end taste Curry comes in regular or large, regular spicy (mild essentially) or non spicy and there is also 2 types of powders (chili and essence) available too The Katsu (pork and chicken) was freshly fried, crunch, not too thick of a crust, juicy, and upheld when dipped in the curry. Curry was not overly spicy, had a nice tough of heat that potentially increased with the power Vegetables were not just boiled and thrown in but very tender and picked up flavor of the curry Did not seem overly salty Very tasty would certainly return to try other dishes. Even with eating the entire plate did not feel overly stuffed

I love getting pork katsu curry from Tokyo Katsu Curry whenever I'm in the area. They are less generic and commercialized unlike Coco Ichibanya or Kagura. Parking is free right outside the shop. Service is efficient. You can get your order as to-go or for dine-in. I just wish they'd stop using styrofoam containers for takeaways. The inside of the restaurant is snug. Kinda gives you the literal Tokyo shokudo feel in a shitamachi-setting. #iykyk The food itself is pretty consistent in quality. The katsu is very thick and juicy. I used to prefer the ones from Kagura down the street but this spot is just as good. Their pricing is comparable. Just less fancy feeling if you are dining in. One item I really really really wish they offered is katsudon. But I understand it's a curry place!!

Curry is so yums! It definitely on the sweeter side but I think it balanced well with the spice and "curry essence" powder they provide you. The price for the portion was really good and the chicken/pork was crispy and juicy. I didn't have any complaints! The restaurant was pretty empty when we went in on a Friday night so it was a good place to yap haha. I would definitely come again to satisfy my curry cravings :p Ratings Pork katsu curry: 4.8/5 Chicken katsu curry: 5/5

Cozy restaurant that serves warm katsu curry that giving you the home-made atmosphere. Came on a weekend afternoon and there was no wait. They had comfy booth seating and our waitress was very attentive. Parking: Located in a medium sized plaza. Parking was easy to find inside the plaza & there is reserved restaurant parking in the front of the store For the meal Combo #5 Chicken Katsu with mixed vegetables The katsu was crispy. I ordered a Spicy Curry, the spice level was comparable to a mild level of heat. The curry itself had a deep umami flavor and not a typical chunky thick curry. But a thinner consistency. This made the dish comparable feel "homemade", and easy to clear the entire plate. Veggies were nothing entirely too special. Toppings included green beans, white potato, sliced carrots, and some wedges of onion. I'd probably ordered the omelette with it or cheese instead next time. Chicken Katsu Large sized portion The large sized portion was plus for me. Katsu again was cooked well. If you want additional spice there is a spicy powder at the table. The portion for me was well worth it as most curry spots around the area only offer one size or the option to increase rice/add additional meat for lots more $$$! This was a great value. Also if you're a big pickled radish fan, you can find it already placed for you on the plate! Overall great experience, I would visit again!

Delicious Japanese style curry! First time enjoying it. Ben said it did remind him of curry he had in Tokyo while living there. Nice cozy spot , great service.

Chicken Karaage (5pc)
John O.

To me this place was just OK. The gyoza was ok but not as good as a lot of places. The karaage wasn't crispy enough probably because the chicken was way undercooked as in raw at the center. The pork katsu and curry were average. I didn't dislike the food but I can't say it excited me or made me look forward to returning. It's a small place with only about 20 seats. The place was pretty full right after opening and the one waitress kept up with things fine.

Limited seating
Sherry T.

We came right when it opened, so there was no wait. This is a small restaurant with limited seating; very true of restaurants in Japan. Because of this, I like the vibe! Our server was prompt and friendly. The Chicken Katsu Curry was delicious. The katsu breading was light not thick like others. It was also a generous portion. My husband liked his Sukiyaki Beef Curry. The curry in both our dishes were flavorful. I love matcha so I had to try theirs. It didnt disappoint. We will definitely come back to try the other dishes.

Although the shop is quaint, it's a lovely hideaway spot. Full of flavorful dishes. Associates help with dietary issues (I'm spice intolerant). Any additional concerns, the team was really helpful when I was undecided on which to select.

Omelet Pork Curry (regular $18.95) and two shrimp ($1.90/each) Thimble sized sauce container and no utensils for take out
Joe P.

Its Mediocre Mon again I got a take out order bc The Huddle bar a few doors down does not serve food. I ordered the omelet pork tonkatsu curry and two katsu shrimp. The entree was a good size portion. The pork was tender and the batter was nice on the outside. Secondarily, the omelet was good sized and seasoned nicely. Lastly, the side order of shrimp was GBD, and reasonably priced. However, the major fail w/ the food is that I was given a thimble sized container of sauce, and it wasn't full. While I was waiting, I read that this place touts its sauce on the menu and wall. I was expecting the sauce to be on the omelet, or to have a decent sized container. I couldn't taste the quality of the sauce w/ such a ridiculously small portion! Regarding the ambiance, this place is tiny and narrow. There are only 4 tables that were mostly full. I was the only one sitting at the chairs against the wall and it felt packed. The guy at the front was nice, and the food came out quickly. Nonetheless, another major fail is that I was not given utensils or napkins! Luckily my friends had some in their car. The only reasons that this is not a Two Star 2uesday is that the food was good, the portions were large and the food came out quickly. I doubt I would return tho bc of the major fails.

Ask the Community - Tokyo Katsu Curry

Is there meat in the base of your curry sauce? If so, what is it (does it contain pork?)

There is meat in the curry sauce so this is not truly vegan or vegetarian.

Is the chicken katsu made with white (breast) meat?

I have not had the chicken katsu there as yet. But typically it is made from chicken breast which is pounded and prepared.

Is the veggie curry vegan?

Hello there, our curry dishes are not vegetarian as they contain meat broth in the curry sauce. Unfortunately our dishes are not vegan/vegetarian. We appreciate your interest in our menu!

Curry Do? More like Curry DON'T…read more TikTok sold me on this place. The food looked great on video, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Big mistake. The cheese sauce was the first warning sign. It was gritty, watery, and tasted suspiciously like something that started life as a powder and met hot water five minutes earlier. Then came the curry sauce. Sweet. Weirdly sweet. Not rich, not deep, not complex -- just sweet in a way that made me stop chewing and think: WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST EAT? Then there was the burger. Apparently this is supposed to be some kind of smash-burger experience, except the burger itself tasted like somebody had introduced ground beef to a sugar bowl. Maybe it was the onions. Maybe it was the sauce. I don't know. All I know is I ended up eating what can only be described as a sugar burger. The fries were forgettable. Not terrible. Not good. Just fries sitting there wondering how they got dragged into this mess. At one point I actually started questioning reality. Are YOU real? Because between the gritty cheese, candy curry and sugar burger, I felt like I'd wandered into a restaurant created by AI after being trained exclusively on TikTok food videos. And then there are the prices. They charge like the money you're handing them is Monopoly money. These are premium prices for food that, in my opinion, isn't remotely premium. Even the atmosphere is strange. There doesn't seem to be much of an identity to the place. The walls and decor feel less like an actual restaurant concept and more like somebody decorated the room with whatever beer advertising happened to be available. Maybe some people love this place. Food is subjective. But I went in because TikTok made it look fantastic, and I left wondering whether the people making those videos had actually tasted the food. TikTok sold me a culinary experience. What I got was an existential crisis with fries.

Stopped by around 7:30 PM on a Sunday and had a great experience. There was no wait to be seated,…read moreand the restaurant has a small parking lot with enough spaces available during our visit. Soft music played in the background, and the traditional Japanese decor gave the restaurant a warm, relaxing feel. Our server was friendly and respectful, and the food came out quickly and hot. We ordered the Pork Loin Katsu Curry and the Cheese Pork Katsu. The pork loin was cooked really well, with a crispy, golden crust and a tender, juicy interior. The curry was flavorful and comforting without being spicy, making it an easy choice if you prefer a milder Japanese curry. The Cheese Pork Katsu was also excellent. The melted cheese added a creamy richness that complemented the crispy pork well. Both meals also came with miso soup, which had a clean flavor, and a side of shredded lettuce with dressing that helped lighten up the richness of the fried dishes. Overall, everything was prepared well, the service was great, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking for a reliable spot for Japanese curry and katsu, I'd definitely recommend it and would happily come back again.

9/27 -- 2:30 Takeout Order…read more I placed a takeout order and specifically requested extra salad dressing on the side, which I was willing to pay extra for. When I picked up my order, I even asked if the dressing was included, and I was told that they had put it in the bag. When I got home, however, there was only one dressing included. I called the restaurant to ask about it, and the employee told me that a regular takeout order does not come with dressing. If that is truly the case, does that mean the restaurant expects takeout customers to eat the cabbage without any dressing, while dine-in customers receive dressing with their meal? More importantly, if dressing is not included with takeout orders, the customer should be notified when placing or picking up the order--especially when the customer specifically asked for extra dressing and even confirmed it at pickup. I should not have to find out after getting home. On top of that, the katsu sauce container was only half-filled, despite being a 2-ounce sauce cup. Seriously? Even worse, I found a hair coming out of the sauce container, which is extremely concerning from a food hygiene standpoint. What made the experience even worse was the way my concern was handled over the phone. If you are working in customer service and someone calls with a legitimate question or complaint, there is no reason to be rude or dismissive. This was by far the worst customer experience I've had at Kagura. There were only two tables occupied when I visited, yet the restaurant couldn't even properly handle a simple takeout order. Very disappointing. The manager or owner should seriously consider providing additional hospitality and customer-service training to the lady staff. Regardless of whether there was a misunderstanding with the order, speaking disrespectfully to a customer is not an appropriate way to handle a complaint.

From the moment mine companions and I crossed the threshold, we were greeted with warmth and cheer, as though we were cherished guests returning home from a long and weary journey. The atmosphere within was calm and comforting, familiar in a way that soothed the soul. In a world filled with noisy feasting halls and chaotic marketplaces, this establishment stood as a peaceful sanctuary where one might rest and enjoy a most noble meal. The serving folk were nothing short of extraordinary. Attentive without hovering, quick of wit, and brimming with personality, they carried themselves with the sort of genuine hospitality that cannot be taught by any guild or academy. Every interaction felt sincere and full of heart. Now, let us speak of the pan-fried gyoza, for I fear words alone may fail to capture its greatness. These glorious parcels arrived golden and crisp upon the outside, yet tender and delicate within. Each bite tasted as though it had been crafted by hand moments before reaching the table. We had actually expected just the usual soup ramen place, but later discovered that, although a view varieties of ramen noodles are offered on their menu, their specialty was in fact the dried version of a bowl of soup ramen noodles, or what our server referred to as a bowl of "reverse" ramen noodles, better known as Mazemen noodles.... sounded really yummy so far as I have always preferred dry noodles to soup ones. So, my wife went ahead and ordered a bowl of spicy California Tonkotsu ramen noodles, and I went with the Saitama Chicken Mazemen noodles..... and some handmade spicy wonton and fried Karaage Chicken on the side. Our food came out pretty fast, super hot, super fresh, and super delicious! I tried some of my wife's soup ramen, and yes, had great flavor... not too salty, and perfectly medium firm ramen noodles. As for my Mazemen noodles....woweee!.... this was my first time trying Mazemen noodles, with a large board on the wall with instructions on how Wadaya's Mazemen noodles should be eaten. When the instructions were followed, I dug straight in and...mmmmm good! The combination of ingredients in the bowl.... peppered ground chicken, scallions, chives, poached egg, minced garlic, fish umami, and seaweed flakes.... when all tossed together just made for an amazingly delicious bowl of noodles! I really loved and enjoyed it so very much! The Chicken karaage and spicy wontons were very delicious too and went great with our noodles. Other than that, very cute and cozy ambiance... like a little Japanese ramen place, service was excellent.. our server was so nice, so friendly, so attentive, and so helpful.... this made for just the perfect lunch! This place may not be as high profiled as other more popular and well known brands of ramen places, but it's definitely one of the best we've ever tried, and we'll definitely be back soon.

To my surprise, it was a good experience that we had. The shop was small, but the staff has a workflow nailed down. The parking was not too terrible on a weekday evening -- I was worried about the warnings, so we parked on the street. When walking to the hotel, I saw that there were many open spaces in the parking lot! We had the chicken cartillage and the calamari for appetizers. The cartillage was good, but portion was quite small. Some additional seasoning/salt would have also made it much better! The calamari was definitely VERY different from other places, but I liked the batter texture. What I loved about the ramen here is that they let you customize from the noodle size, texture, spice level, and the salt level! I always prefer the thicker noodle type, so I found it comforting to be able to request it at no extra charge. Beware there is extra charge for Spice level 4 & 5! I had the Garlic Tonkotsu ramen, which was flavorful and not too salty/creamy. My fiance had the Tan Tan ramen at level 5 spice, which he thought it was not spicy (it was for me!) and not as flavorful as what I ordered. Overall, I would definitely revisit this shop next time I'm in Oahu!

Everything Japanese! (Well almost). :) I don't purchase groceries here but I come here for…read moreJapanese made products/household items. They have so many cute products! If you're a Japanese fans--this place is for you. My Japanese products always last longer and better quality. More than a decade coming here and planning to come here as long as I am able to. Food Court! Amazing! Delicious! Never disappoint! Lunch hour is BUSY and every table is taken. Parking is tight. They have varieties of Japanese food and drinks in here. There are other stores in here as well selling toys, books, etc. Parking is tight on weekends and lunch hours every day. There are more parkings underneath the store. You just have to turn left after passing the front of the store.

This was my first time at this Mitsuwa, and unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed. Having been to other Mitsuwa locations, especially the one in Torrance, I found this store to be very cramped and dark by comparison. I also had trouble finding many of the items I normally buy at Mitsuwa--they simply didn't seem to be stocked on the shelves. The prepared foods were another disappointment. The selection didn't seem nearly as appealing or extensive as what I've found at the Torrance location. I ended up picking up a few things, but was surprised to find that they were more expensive than similar items at another Japanese grocery store in the area, which I visited afterward. Overall, I'd choose the Torrance location over Irvine based on this visit. The Irvine store just didn't have the selection, atmosphere, or value I've come to expect from Mitsuwa.
