After discovering how awesome this particular Mitsuwa's food court is, it was just a matter of time before we came back to check out all of the different eateries here. Sadly, our first adventure to Gyutan Tsukasa ended up being a little underwhelming, but no matter - it's not like that one meal was indicative of how the others would go. Plus, just about every place here looked too good to resist! So, next up on the list, based on all of the positive reviews from Yelp friends, as well as the display case full of plastic models of their food - Miyabi-Tei! Compared to some of their neighbors, several of whom are centered around specific offerings (beef tongue, udon/tempura, ramen, etc.), Miyabi-Tei is more like your neighborhood Japanese restaurant that offers a little of everything (save for sushi rolls). Among their menu offerings, you'll find soba noodles, tempura, donburi options, katsu curry rice plates, hamburg steak, a variety of bento box options, and even a slate of rotating daily specials. -- SALT-GRILLED MACKEREL PLATE with Miso Soup, Potato Salad, and Rice Other than how I wish the piece of mackerel had been larger, this was great! The mackerel was moist, super flavorful, and not overly salty. I also thought the potato salad was pretty good while the rice and miso soup were perfectly fine. -- TEMPURA BOWL with Braised Pork, Miso Soup, and Salad Ordered this as a Tempura Bowl, but told them we didn't need the rice. All in all, the tempura was pretty solid - really crispy and it came with a good variety (I liked the fish best). That said, the Braised Pork was the star - super tender and straight up DELICIOUS! -- EEL EGG BOWL (Unadon) Maybe it's because I haven't had this in ages, but I thought this was terrific! The unagi was meaty and flavorful while the egg was still a bit wet (which was great). I also loved how the rice wasn't overcooked and that the cut of unagi was decently sizable. While all three dishes that we ordered were pretty good, I'll admit that they aren't all that unique/special. So, in that regard, nothing that we had at Miyabi-Tei is worth writing home about. However, for what it is and where/what they are (an eatery at a market food court), you really can't go wrong with coming here. With so many different entrees to choose from, there's a good chance you'll find something to satisfy whatever craving you might have and at reasonably budget friendly prices at that! THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up.
Landed in SNA and Miyabi-Tei never disappoints as first stop for meal. The food is consistently good, the prices are great, and the portions are generous even with how expensive everything is these days. We usually order the chicken katsu curry with salad, and it's always a hit. The chicken is juicy and tender, and the curry sauce is rich and full of flavor. It's such a comforting and satisfying meal. I also tried the mackerel set, which comes with rice, salad, and miso soup, everything was well-prepared and really enjoyable. There can be a line when ordering, but it moves quickly, and the service is super efficient. We got our food within about 10 minutes, which is impressive. Definitely a go-to spot for a delicious and affordable meal!
Today's special was amazing! $13 for udon and rice combo? I saved it for two days because I'm a small eater. Worth the pricing! Delicious food for cheap pricing compared to outside. Will definitely come back for this. Service was fast. He took my order quickly and it took less than 10 minutes for him to call my number on the receipt for pickup. Its a food court setting so look and fight for your own seats! I LOVE the egg bowls they have. DELICIOUSSSSSSSS

I had to grab a quick lunch and went inside the mitsuwa food court. This food court will never disappoint you. From bottom to top quality. Cheap meal and pretty quick service. Today I had my pork katsu for $10 you can never go wrong with it! Fresh quick and tasty moist pork katsu and the curry sauce is amazing too this is one of my spot for a break time meals because it's close in south coast plaza malls. Remember this is inside the food court so it can get crowded and noisy but other than that its a delicious meal you can have here.
I am a HUGE fan of all things bento and have been eating this one for years. The price recently went up to $13.75, but it's still a great deal: salmon on top of cooked bean sprouts, a piece of chicken katsu on a bed of cabbage, rice, tsukemono (Japanese pickles), potato salad with seaweed and miso soup (not pictured). One big plus: they have a loyalty program, after so many meals you get one free. Cashier is always friendly. The only drawback is that the food court (where Miyabi-Tei is located) is extremely busy and sometimes it's hard to find a table, so get there early! There really isn't much of an ambience since it's in a food court (inside Mitsuwa).
Loving the presentation, but the food was pretty mid. I enjoyed the tempura, miso, and fish, but not anything else. The tuna had a fishy taste and did not taste fresh which was honestly expected. The lotus root/carrot mix in the bottom right tasted fine, but I noticed other reviews had chicken in it. I wonder if mine was mixing anything since I came near closing :(
I love this marketplace so much. I'm slowly trying to make my way around each little spot in the food court and today was Miyabi-Tei's turn. My goodness was service incredibly quick, and food was so good I couldn't even finish everything given how generous their portions really are. It's so refreshing to find a place that actually has affordable prices and you still manage to get full from what you order. It's a perfect spot to take family and try the many things on their menu. For us we had to get the chicken cutlet curry. That sauce was everything! Not too salty whatsoever and the tempura with soba noodles was just the right amount and packed with flavor. Will need to make sure to come try other items as the display window they have just makes everything look mouthwatering.
Friendly and fast service. Inexpensive but filling food. They have been around since the early 1980s for a reason. I wasn't expecting much when I decided to get some katsu curry from them. I didn't have good experience eating from Mitsuwa food court in the past. One very bad food poisoning several months ago had me feeling squeamish. And the nearby Dondon Tei was underwhelming in the past. Well, I am glad I decided to give Miyabi-Tei a try. The katsu curry came in good portions with nice amount of beni-shoga and crispy tender katsu. The curry itself was mild but delicious. Rice was fresh and not odd or old tasting. It was also less than $12 for a big platter. Definitely can't complain. The establishment doesn't take Amex. I will have to start carrying Visa on me whenever I try to buy things from Mitsuwa.
The number 41 bento box is a great deal at $14.50 and has a variety of food, both raw fish and cooked items. However, I didn't love all of the items. My favorites were the tempura, rice, and miso soup. They were all the correct temperature; however, the chicken/shitake/lotus was lukewarm and the chicken was quite dry. I also found the tuna to lack flavor, which is unsurprising given that it may not have been uber fresh (the unnatural bright red color was a giveaway). The grilled mackerel was served hot but I just don't love the naturally strong flavor of that species.
I got the chicken katsu curry. Portion size was great, however katsu itself wasn't very crispy. Really can't complain though for its price of under $10. The pickled radish on the side was also a good addition to balance out the curry. They also give you a lot of rice. The stand is located inside Mitsuwa Market. Orders come out quick and overall it's great value!
10/10 value! A well-rounded lunch is hard to come by, and a cheap well-rounded lunch is very hard to come by! I love coming here for lunch. The Miyabi Bento is perfect for those who want a little bit of everything and don't want leftovers. The tempura included green beans, eggplant, shrimp, and pumpkin. I need variety when it comes to meals, and this meal has several components for only $15! Soup, rice, grilled, fried, raw, vegetables, and fruit. I adore the simplicity. Food came out in 5 minutes and the food court at Mitsuwa is always a casual lively atmosphere to dine in.

Trying to limit my order to Tempura Zara Soba, but can't do it. Finished one plate and then ordered a second, curry pork with rice only. They were good as usual. I have been coming here for about 30 years. The three Japanese ladies are all retired now. There is a Japanese man running the front. They have the best business in the food court. Ray out. read more

Its located inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace. Its one of the stalls specializing curry dishes. Price is reasonable, many options to choose from. After checking out the ramen still, emded up getting the chicken curry. My chicken was kinda thin so it was very crispy at the thin side, very dry shall I say. Curry had great flavor, plenty of rice. Rice was very good, sticky, glutinous and bit of sweetness as you chew in them. I should have ordered the salad for extra $. Next time. You order at the counter, take a seat and once ready, they will call ypu a number. When you are done, leave everything on the table. I could have left few $ for cleaning people read more
This is my go to place when I want to get a meal inside Mitsuwa Marketplace in Costa Mesa. Such good food and good deals with meals, bento box and combo meals. Their katsu curry is a popular item in their menu and a steal. Big plate of katsu with rice & option of salad (extra cost) in a bed of Japanese curry. Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace in the foodcourt. I love how the Mitsuwa marketplace has so many different small restaurants/shops to offer a wide variety of Japanese foods and desserts. - chicken katsu curry w/ salad ($11) : 7.5/10. Your typical Japanese curry katsu. The chicken katsu was crispy and delicious. I love the sweet, pickled radish on the side. The salad is very refreshing and light. Can't go wrong with this dish. - tempura bowl ($11) : 5/10. This dish was definitely very underwhelming. The tempura was soggy, not crispy at all, and the batter was very thick. The batter seemed to be different from the typical Japanese tempura batter used which was not very pleasant. There was way too much batter to shrimp/veggie ratio. read more

This is located inside Mitsuwa Japanese market. I've ordered the tempura meal, Saba meal, and beef bowl from here. I liked everything except the beef bowl was too sweet and meat texture of the beef was too mushy. But you can get a lot of food for a great price. My Saba meal came with miso soup, potato salad, pickled veges and cabbage salad for $11:58 with tax included. Service is also fast and friendly. Love coming here. read more

Stopped by around 11 AM and the place was already super busy, but service was fast! Our food came out in less than 10 minutes. The cutlet was tender and flavorful, and the curry was rich and delicious. Portion sizes are generous and enough for two people to share and still leave full. The atmosphere is the typical lively Mitsuwa food court vibe, so expect some hustle and bustle. Parking can be a bit tricky since spaces are limited, but the underground structure makes it easier if the main lot is packed. Overall, a great spot if you're craving Japanese comfort food. Quick, satisfying, and well worth a visit. read more

Yummmmmmm!!! Delicious rice bowls! It's definitely one of my favorite vendors inside the food court here at Mitsuwa Market. Also very nice and friendly. Despite that I was not familiar with their menu, the cashier was patient and friendly while I ordered and asked questions. Be sure to join their frequent diner card, may as well get rewards for all the money I've spent dining and taking out. They're busy but they're very efficient and I've received quick service. Very large portions, in my opinion. read more

Authentic and good price food!! Everything was super fast and it was 11$ for the bowl which was cheaper than other stands nearby. It was a little hectic to find a seat but that's not the restaurants fault ofc. Overall a great quick bite! read more
I had an excellent lunch at Miyabi-Tei, which is located in the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court. They don't seem to have a written menu, but they have examples of what they serve in their display menu. There were so many good options to choose from, but I decided to try their Pork Katsu Curry with rice ($9.99). The cashier asked if I wanted to add a side salad for $1, to which I said sure. The total cost with tax came out to $11.80. I was given a number and waited at my table for a while. When I picked up my order, it looked great. Even better, the meal tasted as good as it looked! The pork katsu was crispy and the curry was flavorful. The rice was nice and soft and the salad was fresh! The entire meal was delicious as all the flavors went to well together. I would definitely order this again, however, I want to try many other items on their menu. The food court was bright and fairly clean. It was packed so getting a table might be a bit challenging. The staff at Miyabi-Tei provided good service. The food was excellent, the staff were great, and the dining atmosphere was pleasant. 5 stars! read more

Main dish comes with generous sides of rice, miso soup, and pork sauce. Some dishes can be a bit greasy and I felt there was too much mayo with the salad of teriyaki chicken, but that is just my taste. My to-go order was ready at the serving counter for some time before they called my number, but it was during lunch rush so I understand they get busy. Overall, I recommend if you want a casual meal for a good price! read more
Japanese curry. very comparable to Coco Ichibana. at a fraction of the price. Its in the Mitsuwa food court of Mitsuwa with Santouka, Gyutan, Mugimaru, Don Don Tei, and the newcomet Machi-chuuka. Also has soba (how i originally came across the food court, back then santouka was like minimum 1 hour wait so heck no, get soba instead), and various rice/unagi/tempura plates. Its kinda the variety stand compare to the ramen adjacent, and the tempura everything at the other end. Japan Beer is also here, and ive always been interested in the yuzu beer but no one is ever there so....looks awkward. Besides that it is prepared lightning fast, like i barely chose a table and claimed it before i was called, it is a more than decent portion of simple but very filling and yummmy japanese curry. Of particular mention the rice they use....is very different from other rices i usually come across. Its not short grain, seems almost medium but its got the firm almost chewyness of short grain and its rice sweetness. You can swirl it around into the pool of curry along with the pickled red crunchy stuff and its like food-explosion food-explosion all up in your mouth. I didnt get offered any spicy options but its perfect for me, barely a hint of flavorful spice but not even close to making me cry and dread lava coming out the other end. The beef is very soft slices, some almost fall apart, others need a bit of chewing, its ok. the pork cutlet tho is spot on, on par with coco. Cons are its served lukewarm, rice is cold and actually feels clumpy like its old? but otherwise at $10 its a bargain (Curry Do would be $16, Coco Ichi is like $15, i havent been back to Curry house in decades i dont even know if theyre still around). Its a japanese food court. Sit anywhere except someone elses lap or on the ground.You got couple tables, group tables, rows of tables, high tables, booths, countertops. whatevers your fancy. Weekdays plenty of parking outside or in the garage underneath. Weekends get ready to rumbleeeee! it gets ultrapacked with families, and even off meal hours its still tooth and claw, people zooming around the wrong one way lane underneath parking. The other thing that i love here besides the 6 food choices....mitsuwa and daiso are part of the court.....so even more snacks, drinks, prepacked foods are at your choice. But as amazing as this food court is....i feel like thailand mall food courts dwarf japanese food courts both in massive options (rows of stands, wall to wall) and price ($1 for this item, $2 bowl of watever that is, $3 for premium plate, $5 for a mango smoothie why is the smoothie so expensive, etc) I never really thought of it before but Miyabi-tei is the only "stand" in the food court that doesnt really advertise its anglicized name, if u look at the square wall sign, its in like size 10 font along the bottom circle. but it blends in like a signature. read more
Mitsuwa marketplace hosts some tasty, Japanese dining portions all packed together very conveniently. The service at Miyabi was good, went During lunch hour and Relatively short line. I tried their udon soup and pork cutlet with egg special. Could use more meat in the cutlet but otherwise it came out really well And was super tasty. It was a packed house in the dining Hall but there are enough seats to go around and didn't have a problem finding seating. Environment is roomy enough and can do some shopping at the market or Daiso afterwards too! read more
I am surprised how reasonably priced Miyabi-Tei is. Hopefully, I didn't jinx it. It seems like food prices in most restaurants have been inflated recently. It was a treat to get a quick and fast lunch. I decided to get away from my Santouka Ramen that I get 90% that I visit and go with some curry. The curry is perfect for the slight chilly weather we are having in SoCal. When I arrived for an early lunch, Miyabi-Tei was the only restaurant with a line so you know it's good or there is a good special. The service was quick. Before I could buy a boba at another restaurant my food was ready. I added a miso soup on the side and the portion was just the right amount without leaving me overstuffed. Only slight food coma as I dragged myself back to work. Maybe it's better to visit when I don't have to rush back. You can't go wrong with most of the Mitsuwa food court. Happy 2024 Y'all! One of the good eateries at the Mitsuwa Food Court. Take a break from grocery shopping or just come to this location and have your fill of rice bowls and curries! My favorite has been their Oyakodon - it's simple with pork, egg, and rice. You can also opt for their combo plates, which includes a small bowl of miso soup, a salad, and rice. And if you order any of their beef dishes, they will also be very fantastic. This is definitely my go-to, whenever I visit this Mitsuwa Food Court. As all Food Courts, this place can also have a bit of a wait. Do expect about 10 minutes (or more...) for your dish to come out. But once you get it, you'll definitely enjoy that meal! read more

Nice comfort food option for Japanese food located inside the Mitsuwa market. This place hits the craving of soba and tempura. Portion is pretty fair, you'll definitely be full at the end of their set meals. I usually get their cold/hot soba with either tempura or sometimes a beef bowl. Tempura is usually nice, light and crispy. Soba hits the spot as hot or cold, but I think I definitely prefer cold soba if I can. Beef bowl was nice too. The beef was well seasoned and rice had a good texture. Nothing to really complain about here, it's all really Japanese comfort food to me. Quality is good for what it is (being inside a foot court). It's not top notch but it hits a craving if you happen to be at Mitsuwa already. read more

No complaints! Everything was really well balanced and so affordable. I love the bento box because you get a little bit of everything and although it might not seem like a lot, it is very filling!! Also a really healthy meal and everything was perfectly seasoned. Food came out quick and ordering process is very simple. The curry was pretty standard, no vegetables but still yummy! It's located inside Mitsuwa market so the seating area can be noisy and difficult to find a spot if you come during peak hours. However, it's kept clean and still very enjoyable experience. read more
Parking: Miyabi-Tei is located in the food court of Mitsuwa. The parking lot is pretty big but it still might be difficult to get parking during peak hours. Interior: There are a lot of tables in the food court area but it sometimes gets difficult to find a seat during peak hours. Service: The cashier didn't seem too friendly but seemed efficient. My food came out pretty quickly. Food: The menu is pretty cheap. I got the pork cutlet bowl. It came with a bowl of miso soup, seaweed salad, and some pickles. The bowl itself was alright. The rice was very clumpy. Some parts were hard and other parts were mushy/soggy. The pork cutlet was okay. Overall, Miyabi-Tei is great for a quick and cheap meal. read more

What we ordered: - Chicken cutlet curry & salad Miyabi-Tei offers a plethora of Japanese comfort food options, but their best offering is definitely the cutlet curry (either chicken or pork). The chicken cutlet has a lightly fried exterior and moist inside. Their Japanese curry is the best that we've tried so far in OC; a very thick consistency with slight sweetness. my favorite food stall inside the mitsuwa food court!! I always find myself coming here every now and then for their pork cutlet curry because it's a simple, yet comforting meal. it's also such a good price for the portion size AND it's actually pretty good. the pork has never been dry, always crispy and moist, and the curry is flavorful and not too salty. service is pretty quick, even when it gets busy during lunch time! read more
