This review is long overdue... My boyfriend and I always make sure to visit Skybay Sushi as often as possible because of how amazing our visits are every time. My favorite roll is the Mango Tango Roll which is a spicy California Roll with Salmon and Mango on the outside. The hospitality is always perfect and makes us feel very welcomed. This visit, we asked for the chef special and it was so good. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. We have never had a bad experience! So YUMMY ! Thank you James, Clare and Jean!

This sushi place was amazing. I don't know when I will be back down here so I thought I would be brave and give it a five now. I didn't expect the business to be so small, but luckily it was not a packed house. A friend and I met up and I told the employee her reservation and she took me to our table while I waited for her to arrive. There is a nice little special where you can order two rolls for a discounted price (I forgot what it was) or three rolls for $40.95. Considering each roll was $15-$17, this was a good deal. We started out with two hot green teas. They came out quite hot too. It hit the spot and I really liked that we got second teas for no charge. We ordered the Scotland Roll, Asparagus Snow Roll, and the Deep Fried Philly Roll. Also we ordered a side of edamame and seaweed salad. I was very impressed with how tasty the seaweed salad was and I loved the way all three rolls were presented beautifully on a large plate. We dug in and enjoyed every bite. My friend decided she wanted dessert and order the mochi. She asked the server what she recommended out of their three options of mango, green tea, or strawberry. The server said all of them were good but ended up bringing the strawberry over. I ordered the green tea ice cream and I really loved how it arrived in a martini glass with some whipped cream and chocolate. I was very impressed with what a gem this was and how amazing their food was. I really appreciated the great service. I wish it was closer to me.

Already my 4th time coming back. And as always the food is amazing and the chef, James , is so cool.

This restaurant has very kind staff, and their sushi is absolutely delicious. I wish I could give 6 stars

Great service. Attentive, friendly. Amazing food and presentation and prices. So delicious from start to seaweed salad.

This was a quaint restaurant with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The server was kind and prompt to assist us. We ordered 3 special rolls to share. Presentation was beautiful and combinations were tasty. The cuts of fish were not the best but for the price it was very good. They even gave us green tea ice cream for a great price. Overall, a great experience.

Great service, great quality of food and great prices. Definitely recommend it if you're in Costa Mesa

This place is by far our absolute favorite sushi restaurant in town. James and Jean are especially kind and provide the best service you can ask for. They are very welcoming and making sure everything is expected but better! The sushi rolls versus the price, you really can't beat the quality of fish you get and also getting the Chef's special rolls! James does an awesome job at creating new and tasty rolls like the Salmon Mango and Blue Fin Tuna roll - absolute fire! It is a smaller shop, and the decor is very subtle and peaceful! it is a smaller shop, which is nice because it feels more private and enjoyable!

Chef's Special Cajun Bluefin Tuna Roll

Best Sushi spot in all of the OC! We have been coming here for 2 years now and let me tell you that the quality of the fish here is the best. You will not find any spot with better quality or presentation. James (the owner & chef) is very friendly and one of the most talented chefs I have ever witnessed. The mango tango roll is so fresh with a delicate sweetness from the ripe mango. I would highly recommend making it spicy! Any of the Nigiri is delightful, especially the Aji (Spanish Mackerel). Clare and Jean have some of the most efficient and friendly service. They always check in on us and ensure we have our glasses full. If you are looking for your next favorite sushi spot in the OC, look no further than Sky Bay Sushi in Costa Mesa! PS, be sure to share a glass of Sake with them on your next visit

Simply the best sushi in Costa Mesa, CA...which is near Irvine, I guess. I don't know. My wife was driving. Weve gone before, and I've reviewed before. We will go again, and I'll review again! Everything was fresh and immaculate. Well cut, and well prepared. The Cajun Roll is their speciality, especially good paired with the special house sauce, which has just a bit of spicy to it. Even my 5 year old chowed down on Udon noodles, grilled salmon, and the snapper. Owned and run by the nicest couple, just quality people serving up quality food. They love this place and the cuisine, and it shows. Check it out. Say hello. Leave full and happy! Always good to make your wife happy, and this does the trick. May work better if your wife is Asian, but probably in general as well.

As a foodie, I'm always looking for new places to try, but I often fall into holding patterns in some areas, such as the 17th Street corridor in Costa Mesa. After hitting two usual spots (Shirley's Bagels for, you guessed it...) and Hi-Time Wine Cellars (clean bathrooms). A little search here on Yelp and studying the little maps, I realized this restaurant was close but just off the street. I lucked out and got one of two designated parking spots in front and walked in. It was before noon, and only one other table was sat, so I grabbed a spot easily. The server was a sweet lady who provided the proper aloof but not unaware style that promotes relaxation without ever having to flag her down. Green tea first, then my order. The chef is very deliberate in his movements, and I could tell that without peering over the counter, he's a stickler for detail and presentation. Sure enough, the platter came nicely arranged. Two cut rolls and nigiri sushi to get as wide as possible sample of their fish varieties. I especially enjoyed the Salmon Lemon roll with asparagus inside. The Hamachi was also really good, as was the salmon. I felt full enough for the planned wine tasting later that afternoon at Hi-Time Wine Cellars and drove down to Corona Del Mar to walk it off. I'll time my next trip for happy hour and get some Mussels!

I do wish they had some more non fried options, but the fried stuff, they do well. It comes with the side dishes traditional to Japanese meals, and the katsu is veeeeeery crispy crunchy. Their curry flavor is pretty flavorful too but not mindblowing or particularly memorable. The wagyu hamburg was tender, juicy, but definitely salty. The gravy was alright because it was just salt forward. I loved the salad with it because it cut through the salt, but it got drenched in the gravy because it was put on the same plate. The rice was perfect and the miso soup was good, and I particularly liked the sweet potatoes. I liked the okra side but it was a little slimy for me and a little awkward to put in one's mouth with the goo. But once it was in my mouth it was great LOL. The service was great; they filled up our waters extensively and got everything perfect. Quick, efficient, accurate service is always amazing! Spicy miso ramen: 9/10 Actually one of the better ramens I've had lately. The broth is creamier and isn't overpowering with chicken/beef flavor. The chashu was nice and tender as well. I really liked that their noodles were al dente and not too soft Deluxe mazemen: 8/10 Taking my first bite, I was instantly greeted with an explosion of umami. There's a LOT of flavor packed in this bowl and the noodles used are actually a bit thicker which is right up my alley. The batter on the chicken was good and once you bite it, the meat is juicy and tender. Doesn't really need dipping since it's so good. As for the Mazemen, we ordered the Deluxe and Veggie one, both is a 5/5. Very flavorful and it tastes just like ramen, but without the soup. The presentation of the dish looks like a work of art. You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

But the flavors of the dishes eased my fear. It was delicious. I love salmon and uni when it comes to sushi and I would recommend others to try this place! Several people already saw my instagram post and asked the name of the restaurant! I'm very happy that the food turned out phenomenal! Toyko nacho (recommend) : it was messy to eat and had a kick of spice. I didn't mind the mess though. Lots of different flavors. Uni hotate yuzu: scallops topped with uni. Eating it was like butter. Sour flavor profile from the yuzu. A bit overpowering. And the maldon sea salt was interesting. So you get the texture of buttery soft from the scallop and uni and a crunch factor from the salt. 5pc Salmon nigiri: so fatty and buttery! If you love salmon then definitely get this. The presentation was so cute. It lays on a bed of ice. And throughout the dinner the pieces of salmon were chilled. Monster nigiri (recommend) : I don't think anything about this when my honey suggested order this. But once it got to the table and we ate it. Wow! This dish flavors stood out to me. The crispy sweet onions and sauce perfected the meal. Dragon: It was pretty tasty and decent. I know my honey liked it a lot. He prefers not to eat raw fish, so this was to his liking (I recommend to those who don't eat raw fish). Truffle essence (recommend) : The taste of truffle is weirdly addicting. The presentation was eye catching because the candle is keeping the truffle butter warm. The concept of dipping or pouring the truffle butter onto the roll was a fun way of eating. Snowflake roll: A lot of reviews mentioned this was a popular dish. I can see why it was popular. It's literally a bunch of fish in a roll! Haha, fish lover this would be perfect to order. Crunchy roll: It was a decent roll, but a bit dryer than I expected. Orders and ratings: Tokyo nacho 9/10. Uni hotate yuzu 10/10. 5pc Salmon nigiri 10/10. Monster 11/10. Dragon 8/10. Truffle essence 9/10. Snowflake roll 10/10. Crunchy roll 6/10. Thank you!

I've been around this area for so long but only just now am I trying Kashiwa Ramen!…read more Going inside, the seating area is not large, and off the bat, I couldn't get seated with my family because the 2 high chairs they have available were already taken by another family. Thankfully, they had a booster seat available to have our child sit on. We ordered a miso ramen, a spicy black garlic ramen and a gyoza for our appetizer. The person taking our order was patient with us as we ordered even as we were dealing with our toddler. Our requests were accommodated respectfully and to the best they could! Upon first glance, the gyoza looked good, like it was a family recipe and made from scratch! The spicy garlic ramen had thick, and a tasty looking broth and the portion sizes for the ramen looked like decent enough for the price. The taste for the gyoza was good, but the spicy black garlic ramen definitely stole the show! The broth was the perfect level of savory with a delicious blend of garlic that wasn't overpowering along with the pork broth. The chashu was incredibly tender and flavorful and the ramen was cooked perfectly - *chefs kiss*, amazing! Another reason that helped me decide on eating here was that there is a student discount for OCC students! Definitely cool that the local business is supporting local students! I had a great experience eating here with my family - the food was delicious, the staff was helpful and it was joy!
