this place is the only place i've found that has ayce scallop nigiri!! and the quality is also pretty good ordered jalapeño poppers, salmon kama, variety of nigiris and ramen. everything was very good, fish seemed fresh and size is great (not too much rice). ramen was good, nothing too special they do offer some limited premium items such as toro and sweet shrimp which are delicious i also love how the rolls come in half sized of 4pcs so you can get more variety ~ service: 9/10 friendly service ~ parking: parking lot on site
Came here on a late Saturday evening, since we drive by this place so much. Decided to give this restaurant a try with the AYCE Premium. We mainly used the Nigiri's and couple rolls. Service was a bit slow at times, and whenever a server would come by to serve us one of them would slam the cup on the table. The hostess I will say has top notch customer service, he was great! For some reason the fishes did not seem fresh to me, and I guess you can say I stopped ordering at some point. Would I come back? Probably not, I have had more tastier and fresher tuna and other fishes. This place did not catch our eye, but at least my husband and I can say we tried it. The ordering process was a bit confusing, using a QR code for strictly appetizers only, then using two pieces of paper for ordering sushi menu. Split nigiri's and then sushi rolls. We did not get a drink menu, until later on.
Rice to fish ratio here is AMAZING. So eating nigiri doesn't make you full fast like other places. They also have unlimited salmon belly and scallop nigiri, which is hard to come by. Even though I don't like AYCE that much, out of all the ayce restaurants I would definitely come back again. No parking issues. Service is fast. Ambience is whatever, just come for the food and you shall be satisfied.
We came on a Saturday afternoon and were seated as soon as we arrived. Parking wasn't an issue it's in a plaza. The restaurant was a decent size, with a variety of tables and booths, including a few tables near the bar. Our waitress brought us a menu along with a paper order sheet for the sushi. There were both à la carte and AYCE options, and we chose the AYCE option, which was $38.95 per person on the weekend. For the side dishes, they use a QR code menu. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a five-minute wait between orders, although I believe you can order multiple items at once. Side dishes were just ok. I did feel that the service was on the slower side, especially since the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. It took around 20-30 minutes for our first order to come out. As for the sushi, it was good overall. The fish-to-rice ratio was decent, and I appreciated that they didn't overload the sushi with rice. The portions felt well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy the fish without feeling like I was mostly eating rice. My favorites were probably the uni, yellowtail, and bluefin tuna toro nigiri. The hand rolls were a little disappointing, as they were smaller than I expected. However, if you prefer smaller hand rolls, then the size may be just right for you.

I came here for dinner and there was a small wait before I got seated. They only offer premium ayce for dinner. I ordered different appetizers and nigiri. My favorites was shishito peppers, yellowtail nigiri, and the bluefin tuna toro. The cut for each fish was inconsistent for the nigiris. Some pieces were smaller than the others. It was still good and yummy though. Overall, this is a good ayce sushi spot. It is worth for the price. I love how the fish is fresh and they give less rice for each nigiri piece.

The menu is a QR code, with the same ordering style as X-fish (through phone for non-nigiri items). Nigiri ordering was with pen/paper with some specialty items with limited order quantities per person. The rice ratio was great for AYCE - the smallest nub of rice for a regular slice of fish. There were several options for salmon, which is what I typically come for - including salmon belly, torched, cajun torched, etc. The torched salmon was just a bit over-torched so it was basically half-cooked salmon. Quality of fish was decent, but some flavors or toppings (carpaccio, torched, garlic on edamame, etc) fell short compared to other similar spots. They did have a wider selection of non-nigiri items available to order though.
A friend took us out here as a treat and boy was it a treat! I've been saying "I need to find a go to sushi place" and I think I finally have. CHOBOP is an all you can eat sushi place with very affordable prices. They are flexible in that not everyone needs to order all you can eat sushi place - we had someone just order a few things à la carte. There were so many options with appetizers, handrolls, baked rolls, fried rolls, and sashimi. The waiter was super friendly and even handed out a free appetizer/dessert. General ambiance is casual and cozy.

I wanted to update my review since they changed their name and menu. Chobop is a sushi spot that offers and AYCE and al la carte menu. I came in for lunch during the weekday with one other person and we got seated right away. It was busy but not crazy. They ask you right away what type of menu you prefer. For AYCE they had the classic or premium option. The premium had more items such has eel and mussels. We went with their classic. I found their sushi to be of good quality for the price. We enjoyed their salmon and yellowtail nigiri which both tasted fatty. I liked that they had no rice rolls which were all good. I also liked that they came out as 4 rolls instead of the 8 that you normally get. The classic menu also included ramen. We got their spicy ramen which was good but I hated that it had a ridiculous amount of ramen noodles in there. I ate half the noodles and it felt never ending. They even had ice cream at the end (matcha and vanilla). Service was excellent. They kept checking on us. I did hate that they forgot some of our items on our first round. I think you get 3 rounds and you can order through them or mark the paper. The inside is very large and great for small or large groups. For value and option I thought this was a great spot compared to their competitions.
I kept seeing Chobop circulating on social media as this new premium AYCE sushi spot with good quality and fast service, so obviously I eventually had to see for myself. I invited a couple friends and made them come right when they opened so we could properly attack this menu lol. There are different tiers, and we went with **Premium** because that's where you get the nigiri, carpaccio, sashimi and some of the higher-end items. Some premium items like bluefin toro, uni and sweet shrimp are limited to one per person, but there's still A LOT you can order. And we ordered a lot. We tried the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and octopus carpaccios. They were okay across the board. Nothing bad, but none of them really stood out either. The menu can be a little confusing. Some things are ordered through the QR code, miso soup you have to ask for separately, and there are a bunch of rules and different sections to figure out. I did appreciate that some rolls are available as four pieces instead of committing to eight. I'm not a huge roll person anyway, and the rolls were probably one of the weaker parts for me. My nostalgic order is always a Philly roll because I love cream cheese, and there was barely any cream cheese in it. They also use mustard-based sauces on several things, and as someone who HATES mustard... why are we doing this? Where I'd focus next time is the **nigiri and simpler items**. We tried a ton of those along with salmon belly, baked mussels, crispy tuna, udon, miso and more. The salmon belly was way fattier and larger than I expected -- more like an actual grilled belly portion than sushi -- so ordering three was definitely our mistake. We were cutting fat off trying to survive by the end lol. One thing I wish they did better was tell us what they were dropping off. We ordered so much that when plates started coming out, we couldn't always tell what was what. Service itself was attentive, but food came out at an interesting pace. We'd think we were almost done and then suddenly another wave would appear. Afterward I calculated what everything would've cost à la carte, and **we absolutely got our money's worth** with Premium. Would I come back? Probably. I'd order completely differently now that I understand the menu -- less experimenting with all the sauced items and rolls, and more stacking up the nigiri and things I actually liked. There's definitely value here; you just have to learn how to work the menu.
We had a group of 5 and everyone left happy and voted to return. Good quality proteins, small amounts of rice on nigiri, $40 AYCE includes carpaccio, nigiri and rolls. Rolls can also be ordered in half size (4 piece) to try new things. Separate menu for appetizers also included in AYCE price. Friendly service team from host - server - busser. Clean establishment, large space keeps wait times low or none. Free parking in large lot, ADA accessible. We will return and recommend to family/friends. Our new spot.
Sometimes not everything on social media is true. Advertised as a new place to try out, videos were pleasing. Then I see here on Yelp that this place was just rebranded. My only favorite was the mussels. Sushi and sashimi did not seem fresh. Thicker cuts, but was kind of cold for me. I think the flavor is there. The concept of each rolls is there. It's just it's not fresh..... Service was nice. Their drinks were gigantic haha! I like that one. Place looked old. Had their own parking space. A plus! Ambiance was ok. Looked rugged for me.

Surprisingly, it had been a few weeks since i last visited chobop in Costa Mesa. And a few days ago, some friends treated me for my BD. It is my favorite all you can eat Sushi restaurant. There is lots of parking out front. The dining room is large They have tons of options from appetizers to rolls to sashimi and much more. They even include ice cream in 2 flavors. Matcha and vanilla. The Matcha is so good. I had given them a detailed review the last time i was there. So, please check that out for more info. The fish still tastes just as fresh. Their price seems to be lower than most other all you can eat sushi restaurants. They give you 90min time limit and the service is excellent. It was a good time. Great for groups. I highly recommend Chobop in Costa Mesa. read more
I've been seeing so many great reviews about this place on TikTok and Yelp, but honestly I don't understand the hype. We came around 4pm on a Sunday and the restaurant was mostly empty. The restaurant was very spacious and clean. First red flag was that they didn't have miso soup... what kind of sushi restaurant doesn't have miso soup lol. For the first round, we were limited to 10 pieces per person and the service was extremely slow with long waits between rounds. We even had one order of uni come out as literally just rice and seaweed with no uni?? And this was when they weren't even busy. The rolls were terrible, loosely rolled, drowned in sauce, and lacking flavor. The nigiri was the only thing that saved the meal. The fish-to-rice ratio was good but the fish itself was mediocre. They advertise bluefin tuna toro but what we got was more like negitoro rather than an actual piece of toro nigiri. The salmon belly also seemed exactly like the regular salmon with no noticeable difference. Service definitely needs improvement too. Whenever we needed something, the staff were nowhere to be found or cleaning instead of checking on tables. For the price, I expected a lot better in both food and service. With so many AYCE sushi options at a similar price point, I'd rather go somewhere else next time. read more

Tried this AYCE sushi place since it was promoted on TikTok. They have an extensive selection of nigiri and rolls which is nice as well as premium options if you're paying the dinner/premium price. The seared salmon was my favorite and the toro. Service was a little slow but it was on the busy side, so understandable. Plenty of parking outside. Definitely would come back if hungry and craving sushi! read more

Came a couple days ago to meet with some friends as it was my first time being there. There was a short wait on a weekend which was cool. We got to ordering and had a hefty first round but was told we had a limit on the first round for nigiri which is common. We received one plate of our nigiri but the rest never came as they dropped off our paper. Mentioned it to a server and it was quickly resolved. The premium nigiri were very good. I think my favorite was their torched cajun salmon and eel. Not the biggest fan of their appetizers. Udon is a hit or miss with me personally but the udon here wasn't overly sweet like everywhere else which I enjoyed very much. Noodles were a great texture. read more
Overall: I liked it, would definitely make this a place to try or comeback to. Food: 9/10. Cooked oysters were really good, the rice to fish ratio is easily the best I have ever seen for AYCE and overall the food was decent. I mean it's not spectacular rolls and while they are delicious; they all kinda have the same style, but you get what you pay for. Service: 10/10, constantly checked in and multiple people were checking in not just the dedicated server. Inside: Decent size, good booth sizes which was nice and decent sushi bar. Waiting area is small and parking can be tight, but I think you can park in front of the other shops. read more

Came on a Tuesday at 12:30pm and we were seated almost immediately. First thing we noticed when we sat down was how sticky the table was, and the strong bleach smell. The server immediately came up to us, went over the AYCE options, and we chose the classic one. We were given a piece of paper to order sushi/nigiri/rolls, and appetizers are ordered through a qr code through your phone. We gave our order around 12:40pm, and we received our first appetizer (2pcs of tempura) at 1pm. 15 mins after that we got the rest of our orders. Waiting 35 mins for the first round is diabolic considering there's a 90 min limit for the AYCE. We didn't even order a lot. Our second round, again, took a while to come out so we didn't bother ordering a third round. Fish-to-rice ratio was decent, try the seared salmon nigiri, the Pepper Me Crazy roll, & skip the scallops nigiri (not fresh). The food was good, but we've had better at other AYCE sushi spots. read more

Been wanting to try this spot for so long now and came for a dinner with a party of 4. There was a wait and you do have to come in person since it's a paper waitlist. We waited about 30 min. We went for the AYCE which actually had pretty quality fish but I would say the experience is a bit underwhelming. They limit the amount you can order at a time which shouldn't be as much of a problem if the wait wasn't so long between rounds. We would eat our order which all came out on 1 plate and then have to wait a while before placing another due to how busy it would get. Between those rounds we did try to order via the online menu but those also had a wait. We also noticed some pieces would be missing when they came out. I do however want to include that the fish is definitely fresh and high quality. The rice-fish ratio is great and a lot better than you'd expect for AYCE. We were full by the end of the night but if the dining experience wasn't so long I think I would've enjoyed it a bit more. read more

WOW! I am a sushi snob and usually only frequent a couple of local sushi spots. A coworker told me about this all you can eat sushi spot and I was VERY hesitant to try it. I don't usually go to all you can eat because I feel like the quality is not great. I don't know how Chobop does it but their all you can eat is one of the best I have ever had. The rice to fish ratio is perfect, the fish tastes fresh, the appetizers are delicious. Next time I will order less rolls because the nigiri was truly the star for me. Service was also incredible. Can't wait to come back! read more

Food was good, service was lacking ): We spent most of our time there waiting for our food versus eating and they do enforce their hour and a half! We came on a Tuesday early dinner and there weren't many guests inside. Other than that, we did enjoy the sushi that we did get + we ordered some fresh wasabi on the side which hit the spot with many of the nigiris that we got too. Love that they also give you ice cream at the end! read more

My boyfriend and I visited CHOBOP for their AYCE sushi. The service was pleasant and attentive, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. My boyfriend and I had three rounds of sushi, two rounds of nigiri, and one appetizer. We were extremely full afterwards, so there was no way we could have their ice cream too. Some rolls were better than others. Our favorites were the Costa Mesa roll and the Lucky 7. We weren't crazy about the deep fried rolls. My favorite appetizer of all time is spicy tuna on crispy rice, so I had to make some room for that. Their appetizer menu is huge and all you've gotta do is scan a QR code and order from your phone. It was a good experience and I cannot believe we were able to eat that much sushi lol. read more
Omg might be one of my favorite AYCE options in SoCal!! My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday night and there was no wait at all. We opted for their AYCE menu. We ordered a little bit of everything but our favorite was the Cajun torched salmon. I also really liked their scallops! They have capped options for toro and carpaccio options. They are SOOO generous with the portions of fish they give you! Can't even see the rice LOL. Fish is super fresh and our server was nice and the restaurant was clean! This place was so great and definitely is deserving of a 5 star review. The main reason why I enjoyed this AYCE so much is because there was barely any rice in the sashimi!!! That is usually really rare for AYCE places to put a small amount of rice with their sashimi so I was so happy that I was able to really enjoy the fish tonight without getting too full! We went for dinner service and even though the restaurant was pretty filled, the staff were all super attentive and was asking if we needed refills on the water etc.. So big thank you to the manager and waitresses if you happen to come across this review, my boyfriend and I really appreciate all the kindness and attention that was showed to us tonight! The rolls were the perfect size, we only ordered 2 rolls and the rest we ate sashimi. Even though we ate so much it didn't feel like it because the rice ratio was so small!! I cannot emphasize that enough. I am so incredibly happy with the rice to fish ratio at chobop. All the side dishes we got were amazing as well, perfect portions. The green tea ice cream looks small but do not underestimate because the little bowl is deep. Everything inside was super clean and I liked whoever was on aux tonight (2010 music). Also music volume was great because it was pretty quiet so I was able to have a conversation with my boyfriend without being disturbed by loud music. 10/10 spot, I will definitely be coming back when I have the chance. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Chobop! We ordered the premium AYCE menu and I must say, it's a pretty good dupe to X Fish Izakaya. Their nigiris aren't packed with rice and the fish quality was good. The torched salmon belly and scallop nigiris were our favorite and I would say a must order. They were fatty and fresh. My only critique with the nigiris is that the fish pieces came out a bit lukewarm. Their appetizers were mediocre except for the Agedashi tofu and their vegetable tempura. The tofu was bouncy and chewy, pretty good! Service was excellent. Although there was only one worker covering for a bit, we still received our orders quickly and they were as attentive as they could be. As far as I know for the premium AYCE menu, they give a free scoop of choice of matcha or vanilla ice cream at the end of your meal. The restaurant is mid sized and can seat a decent amount of people, though it gets packed during peak dining hours so if you have a larger party, I would recommend coming earlier. Plenty of parking out in front and to the side in a lot with other shared businesses. TLDR: would recommend, nigiris aren't packed with rice and fish quality is good. Appetizers are mediocre. Not sure what went wrong here. We ordered 4 rolls, a baked roll, fresh roll, crunchy roll, soy paper roll. The baked and crunchy roll was soggy and cold The fish on top of the fresh roll was dry and tough The soy paper roll felt like it was thawed after being frozen. I couldn't see how the rolls were being prepped behind their walls but all of our rolls tasted like they were kept in the fridge for a while before serving. read more

Soooooooooo many rules, the restaurant staff didn't even know its own...... Never got to try the "premium" sushi because their logic was you can only order 10! pcs of sushi per person per round, and if you ordered over 10 pcs, they just push back the premium sushi. Huh? Did you know? Did it post on the menu? Did you make public announcement about one of your 100 rules? Now, just look at my pics compare with any other pics here, did they look the same? Ones I had felt and taste more like scraps from the fish body parts, mushy, soggy..... seriously how bad can you messed up eel nigiri.....The texture were soggy, mushy, dissolved once in the mouth... not in the good way.... Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and came out looking so good. I loved that there was a great variety of rolls, sashimi, and other sushi options. The rice to fish ratio was amazing!!! The servers were also very kind and kept on checking up on us throughout our meal! read more
sushi was super good and especially the rice portion!! they don't give too much rice which is perfect. presentation was also decent but they take sooooo long to come out. our 3 orders took the entire time limit and the limit of 10 pieces per person was ok but the timing of things coming out sucked bc we were so hungry LOL, staff/service was ok, but the sushi was great so it's fine i guess haha. we got the back corner table and it was so secluded and dark lolol read more
I'd give it around a solid 3.5 stars. The service was excellent and everyone was very attentive, but the food itself was just okay. The sushi had very little rice, which I actually liked because it let the fish stand out more. Unfortunately, some of the fish and shrimp tasted a little too fishy and didn't seem as fresh as I expected. The baked scallop rolls were decent, but they were not really what I was hoping for flavor-wise. On the other hand, the hot foods were surprisingly good and ended up being the better part of the meal. Overall, not a bad experience, but probably not a place I would rush back to for sushi. read more
Great AYCE sushi spot! My friends and I came here for lunch on a weekend at opening time. Fish was fresh & good quality! Their options were good and the fish to rice ratio for the night was chefs kiss. The bluefin toro had to be my favorite. Chobop is such a great AYCE sushi spot. Their fish is fresh and everything tasted great. Uni is limited to one piece per person among a few others items. Their uni was fresh and good quality. Their soy sauce is so salty! Even their low sodium tasted extremely salty so not sure what happened there. Only thing is the sushi takes a while to come out, so keep that in mind when ordering between rounds! You might get full sitting there and waiting. read more
