I wanted to update my review since they changed their name and menu. Chobop is a sushi spot that offers and AYCE and al la carte menu. I came in for lunch during the weekday with one other person and we got seated right away. It was busy but not crazy. They ask you right away what type of menu you prefer. For AYCE they had the classic or premium option. The premium had more items such has eel and mussels. We went with their classic. I found their sushi to be of good quality for the price. We enjoyed their salmon and yellowtail nigiri which both tasted fatty. I liked that they had no rice rolls which were all good. I also liked that they came out as 4 rolls instead of the 8 that you normally get. The classic menu also included ramen. We got their spicy ramen which was good but I hated that it had a ridiculous amount of ramen noodles in there. I ate half the noodles and it felt never ending. They even had ice cream at the end (matcha and vanilla). Service was excellent. They kept checking on us. I did hate that they forgot some of our items on our first round. I think you get 3 rounds and you can order through them or mark the paper. The inside is very large and great for small or large groups. For value and option I thought this was a great spot compared to their competitions.

First off, the service was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and prompt. In regard to the food, overall a 3. Got the Premium AYCE. There's a 90 minute time limit with a maximum of 3 rounds. For the first round, there's a limit of 10 pieces for the non- sushi rolls and 16 pieces for the sushi rolls. For the Kitchen Menu items, you'll scan a provided QR code to order. When you eat the sushi, you do get some seafood flavor but you also get a watery flavor while you chew. Also, some of the rice grains were tough. The amount of rice is small but so were the size of the fish. The best items were the Grilled Salmon Belly (very crispy skin), House Salad (tasty dressing and comes with avocado slices) and the Green Tea Ice Cream.

I went back to Chobop for an all you can eat feast at lunch time today with 8 of my friends and we had a really good overall experience, just as i was expecting. You have the option to order a la carte or do the "all you can eat". I have previously given them a long detailed review. So, I'm not gonna go deep into it this time. I had made a reservation yesterday as they prefer you do for parties of 8+ We arrived at 11:30am which is the time that they open. There is lots of parking out front. Our table was ready and we were seated right away. We were the first party in the restaurant. The space is nice, modern and casual. The food is amazing. It is always ultra fresh and well presented and the service is excellent. When you opt for "all you can eat", You get 3 rounds of ordering. But we ate so much that we were stuffed and we stopped at round 2. We started with a miso soup. Then we ordered all kinds of appetizers followed by rolls, nigiri, sashimi and so much more. We ended with a tasty matcha ice cream. My favorite items were the shrimp pops, baked mussels, crunchy roll and tuna sashimi. But everything was really good. I Love how their nigiri comes with half of the rice compared to other places. So you get more fish and less rice. Especially when you are doing an all you can eat. It goes a ling way as you don't want to fill up on rice. The all you can eat option is $38.95 per person plus tax and gratuity. The gratuity is automatically added for large parties. I highly recommend Chobop.

Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice

My boyfriend and I visited CHOBOP for their AYCE sushi. The service was pleasant and attentive, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. My boyfriend and I had three rounds of sushi, two rounds of nigiri, and one appetizer. We were extremely full afterwards, so there was no way we could have their ice cream too. Some rolls were better than others. Our favorites were the Costa Mesa roll and the Lucky 7. We weren't crazy about the deep fried rolls. My favorite appetizer of all time is spicy tuna on crispy rice, so I had to make some room for that. Their appetizer menu is huge and all you've gotta do is scan a QR code and order from your phone. It was a good experience and I cannot believe we were able to eat that much sushi lol.

This place was so great and definitely is deserving of a 5 star review. The main reason why I enjoyed this AYCE so much is because there was barely any rice in the sashimi!!! That is usually really rare for AYCE places to put a small amount of rice with their sashimi so I was so happy that I was able to really enjoy the fish tonight without getting too full! We went for dinner service and even though the restaurant was pretty filled, the staff were all super attentive and was asking if we needed refills on the water etc.. So big thank you to the manager and waitresses if you happen to come across this review, my boyfriend and I really appreciate all the kindness and attention that was showed to us tonight! The rolls were the perfect size, we only ordered 2 rolls and the rest we ate sashimi. Even though we ate so much it didn't feel like it because the rice ratio was so small!! I cannot emphasize that enough. I am so incredibly happy with the rice to fish ratio at chobop. All the side dishes we got were amazing as well, perfect portions. The green tea ice cream looks small but do not underestimate because the little bowl is deep. Everything inside was super clean and I liked whoever was on aux tonight (2010 music). Also music volume was great because it was pretty quiet so I was able to have a conversation with my boyfriend without being disturbed by loud music. 10/10 spot, I will definitely be coming back when I have the chance. I feel like I have been to a lot of AYCE sushi places and this is definitely at the top of my list.

Great AYCE sushi spot! My friends and I came here for lunch on a weekend at opening time. Fish was fresh & good quality! Their options were good and the fish to rice ratio for the night was chefs kiss. The bluefin toro had to be my favorite. Service was a little slow & the food took a while to come out, but the servers were very kind! Would definitely come back!

Nigiris

Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Chobop! We ordered the premium AYCE menu and I must say, it's a pretty good dupe to X Fish Izakaya. Their nigiris aren't packed with rice and the fish quality was good. The torched salmon belly and scallop nigiris were our favorite and I would say a must order. They were fatty and fresh. My only critique with the nigiris is that the fish pieces came out a bit lukewarm. Their appetizers were mediocre except for the Agedashi tofu and their vegetable tempura. The tofu was bouncy and chewy, pretty good! Service was excellent. Although there was only one worker covering for a bit, we still received our orders quickly and they were as attentive as they could be. As far as I know for the premium AYCE menu, they give a free scoop of choice of matcha or vanilla ice cream at the end of your meal. The restaurant is mid sized and can seat a decent amount of people, though it gets packed during peak dining hours so if you have a larger party, I would recommend coming earlier. Plenty of parking out in front and to the side in a lot with other shared businesses. TLDR: would recommend, nigiris aren't packed with rice and fish quality is good. Appetizers are mediocre. Service was great.

Omg might be one of my favorite AYCE options in SoCal!! My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday night and there was no wait at all. We opted for their AYCE menu. We ordered a little bit of everything but our favorite was the Cajun torched salmon. I also really liked their scallops! They have capped options for toro and carpaccio options. They are SOOO generous with the portions of fish they give you! Can't even see the rice LOL. Fish is super fresh and our server was nice and the restaurant was clean! It's also super reasonably priced compared to other restaurants I've visited! I will visit again!

Chobop is such a great AYCE sushi spot. Their fish is fresh and everything tasted great. Uni is limited to one piece per person among a few others items. Their uni was fresh and good quality. Their soy sauce is so salty! Even their low sodium tasted extremely salty so not sure what happened there. Only thing is the sushi takes a while to come out, so keep that in mind when ordering between rounds! You might get full sitting there and waiting.

Vivian T.

We went for AYCE because I was craving sushi and this place was amazing! Workers and service was super nice and quick. We went for their premium option and their nigiri rice to fish ratio is awesome! Will be coming back!!

Sarocha S.

I come to this sushi place almost every week and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots. The staff are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole dining experience even better. The restaurant itself is very clean and well-maintained, and you can tell they really care about the quality of their service and food. One thing I really love about this place is the sushi. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect -- you actually get a generous amount of fresh fish instead of a huge ball of rice like at some other places. Everything tastes fresh and well prepared. The appetizers are also really delicious and definitely worth trying. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered so far. Their sushi rolls are flavorful, well balanced, and honestly just really yummy overall. This has become my go-to sushi spot and I'm always happy to come back. If you're looking for a clean place with friendly service and great sushi, I definitely recommend giving this place a try!

left to right and top to bottom: "salmon belly", tuna, yellowtail, "bluefin tuna", sweet shrimp

I wanted to take myself out and dine alone for lunch on my birthday, and I chose this place because all the reviews and photos looked really good and people were raving about the premium menu. I got that menu for myself and was expecting high quality cuts like the ones I saw for other people who ordered from the premium menu. I have been to a lot of AYCE sushi restaurants and this one made me feel like I was scammed. Although the fish to rice ratio was good, the quality that was served to me was just did not live up to the reviews at all. When I ordered salmon BELLY, they just brought out normal salmon every single time I ordered it. For the bluefin tuna, mine looked nothing like other people's cuts and tasted really weird. It was hard and salty like it was a piece of smoked tuna. Lastly, I have no idea they served me minced "toro" when all the other people in the reviews who got the premium menu got premium cuts of nigiri. It felt like they were trying to hide that they were serving me fish of lesser quality. I am a really avid sushi eater so I know what is good and what isn't and this experience completely ruined my birthday lunch. I don't know if it's because I dined solo and they thought I didn't know my way around sushi, but as of now I would not recommend this restaurant at all. I hope that they don't treat future customers like this.

Shiny C.

Great AYCE sushi spot with such great value! The rice-to-fish proportion is great and I was surprised to see that they even included a piece of uni, sweet shrimp, and bluefin tuna per person for the AYCE menu, which I feel like most places in socal don't offer. The servers were very sweet and checked in often. There's a good variety of side dishes you can order and I actually really love that each order of rolls is 4 pieces so you don't get too full off one or two orders and can try different ones, compared to other places that come with much more. The first round has a limit on what you can order but the second and third rounds don't so you can definitely get your money's worth.

I've been putting off this review based on an experience I had here a few months ago…read more I had worked a long shift as a blue collar worker and was starving when I came in. I also had to use the restroom really bad. I walked in and spoke with a lady at the front counter and I told her I needed a table for 1 but before I was to be seated I needed to use the restroom. She looked at me with a skeptical look and asked me "Are you just trying to use the restroom? Are you really gonna eat here or just use the restroom and leave?" in a very condescending tone. The way she looked at me and spoke to me made me feel like someone off the street, a bum, trying to use the restroom. I'm Latino and a blue collar worker who wears work boots and work pants, so I feel like my appearance made her feel comfortable to question me and speak to me the way she did. If I was a white dude in regular clothes I highly doubt she would've talked to me like that. I insisted I was there to dine in but that I really needed to use the restroom first. After I convinced her, she pointed to the right corner of the restaurant and told me to go ahead. I was halfway to the restroom when I said you know what, **** this. I'm not spending my money where I'm not being treated with respect. I did an about face and started walking out and the lady asked me if the restroom was closed or something but I told her I didn't want to eat there anymore. I high-tailed it out of there and went to Chopob sushi down the street where I was treated much kinder and got to use the restroom before being seated, without question. I will never give this business another cent. Treat your customers with respect.

You won't find your typical rainbow rolls at this restaurant (I do love a good rainbow roll though). The rolls we ordered were the Snowflake (which was flavored with yuzu), the Lobster roll (which was so much more than a typical baked lobster/langostino roll), and the Are You Kidding Me roll, which was big on truffle flavor and came topped with fried onions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Snowflake roll. It had multiple types of fish inside, and the yuzu flavor added the perfect fresh citrusy touch. It also came dotted with a tiny bit of sriracha (or some other spice) but it was just a hint and it's easy to wipe off if you don't want any spice. The Lobster roll was the star of the show. I give it a 10/10 for presentation, and it was also the best tasting one in my opinion. It was plated with a shelled lobster tail, which looks visually pleasing, but the most impressive part was right before serving, the waitress lit it on fire and handed it to us, as if it were flaming creme brulee or something. The flame actually wasn't on the roll itself, but was on what appeared to be a trail of salt (presumably soaked in some kind of alcohol to make it burn). It definitely was a cool effect and I've never seen anything like it in a sushi restaurant! Lastly, the Are You Kidding Me roll - this was my third favorite out of the three we ordered. It was pretty good but I think the truffle flavor was a bit strong. I'm also personally not a huge fan of fried onions on top of sushi since I think it clashes a bit with the freshness of the fish, and gives me too many bar food vibes. But it certainly was flavorful and my husband and I still finished it. We shared these three sushi rolls between the two of us and it was just the right amount of food to leave feeling full. Besides the food, the restaurant itself was nice although I'm not sure they really needed to have a live DJ there as opposed to having a Spotify Playlist. Didn't bother me but I don't think it really added much to the vibe. I would definitely eat here again!

We started with the spicy tuna crispy rice and avocado crispy rice, both of which were incredible. We also tried a range of different rolls, and every single one felt thoughtfully crafted and unique. The ambiance adds to the experience. The space is open, well-decorated, and has plenty of seating, making it great for a night out. It does get busy during dinner hours, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Parking is fairly convenient with a nearby structure, which is always a plus. Service was excellent as well. The staff was attentive, efficient, and made sure everything flowed smoothly throughout the meal. Drinks were another highlight. The Pretty in Pink and the Yuzu Drop were both a hit at our table. The fish-to-rice ratio is spot on--the cuts are generous and the fish tastes clean and fresh. I usually stick to the salmon, yellowtail, and albacore, and they've been super consistent every time. The evening already started off on a bad note as there doesn't seem to be an organized waitlist system -- they seat parties based on whoever arrives first but we were seated after a party that came later despite having the same number of people... After waiting around 15 minutes, we were seated and started ordering what we wanted. Our waitress was busy handling other tables so we had to ask another waiter on 2 separate occasions for water cups, plates, utensils, etc. He seemed confused why our table wasn't prepared adequately. Our first appetizers finally arrived after 30 minutes which included the edamame, some tempura/dumplings, and takoyaki. The portions were tiny but good. Fast forward another 15 mins and the baked salmon roll had arrived which tasted subpar as the rice was incredibly mushy. After waiting another 15 minutes, we asked our waitress if we could just pay for what we had eaten and leave as no one had checked up on us and our order. It had been an HOUR since we were seated and no sushi rolls except one had been served. The sushi chef let us know to wait ten more minutes while he got started on our order, basically letting us know he forgot to make our food. We let our waitress know that we refused to wait any longer and to charge us for what was already served to which she replied with a snotty tone that other places will have longer wait times and rolled her eyes. The sushi chef was kind enough to comp our meal after this disaster, but the waitress left a bad taste in our mouth. Won't be coming back here.

We had various nigiri including salmon, tuna, albacore, yellowtail, sweet shrimp, scallop, eel, uni, masago, salmon egg, as well as soft shell crab, broiled and fried mussels, octopus, and shishito peppers. There were probably some other items I forgot. Everything was generally good, although a few pieces of tuna were a little on the dry side. Slow service the main issue. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and it seemed like there was only one server who I'm sure was trying her best.
