Talk about a hidden gem. It's so hidden, you can't really see it from the street and don't let the 152 reviews dissuade you from trying it. This place is so good. Believe me, I had my reservations when I saw that there's only 152 reviews and when I drove into the parking lot and saw it from the outside, I had serious doubts. But boy, was I wrong. The parking can get tricky at night because of the bar that's next door. As you walk in, it's very small. There's only 4 small tables (for parties of 2 or 4) and a sushi bar that seats about 8 people. We were lucky to get a table on a late Thursday evening and while it wasn't packed, it was pretty full with a good rotation of customers coming in and out. I'd recommend reservations, especially on a weekend. They have so many different types of unusual fish in addition to their traditional staples. The freshness and quality of their fish is just amazing. If you don't want to do a full omakase and rather leave room for other things to try, definitely go with their 5 or 8 piece Chef's Choice. And, you can let them know if you have any preferences and they'll cater to it...amazing! Their non-sashimi items (i.e. Kushi aka skewers, beef tongue, home made tofu, pickles) were also really good too. We also got a Rainbow roll which was good...don't get met wrong but there's not much you can do with a sushi roll that would make it super amazing. They have a "Today's Special and Recommendation" menu that has new/variation of things and highlights that change from day to day. So I'd definitely save the $ and room for other non-roll items next time I visit. read more

Had a fantastic time here for a pre Mother's Day celebration! This small hidden gem used to be IKKO (in the old days) and I was curious to see how the K's would in comparison to my beloved IKKO. This restaurant is small, with 3 tables and probably 10 seats at the sushi bar so make sure you make a reservation. The service was friendly, attentive & accommodating, as we had many questions compare to other patrons. The ambiance of the restaurant shifted swiftly from somewhat quiet omakase sushi bar to a lively izakaya as the night gets late. Now the food- some of the highlights were abalone in liver sauce- the abalone was so soft with rich liver sauce. It comes with sushi rice afterwards and may I say the sushi rice it self was so good already and with the rich liver sauce it was beyond amazing! Ikura - done RIGHT here! Bursts of umami in the mouth as you bite through it. You can definitely taste the seasonings- I am guessing some bonito stock, soy sauce & sake. The flavors really shines through! Chefs choice of sashimi (8 kinds)- I could go for a second round of this! every piece of fish/shellfish was fresh and a great start to dinner! Hairy crab- this is a super labor intensive dish as every little nuggets of crab meat are stuffed inside crab shell. So for y'all lazy crab eaters out there this is your crab paradise. Crab was fresh, delicate & the dipping sauce really gives it a different dimension. They brought out this plate of small appetizers to try and everything on that plate was perfection. That seaweed was so good.. I still think about it to this day. The nigiri was also delicious. They also brought out this martini glass with tuna, uni, and ikura and caviar. I also dream about this martini glass. Do yourself a favor and splurge on your omakase. Get the uni!! I was pleasantly surprised with a call back at 4:45 asking about what reservation and what I was interested in having. Very exclusive Japanese restaurant located near the Japan shopping center of Costa Mesa/Santa Ana border just a mile from the South Coast Plaza is fascinating and famous place for many reasons. One of which is the high priced Nigiri made with imported fish from Japan. Most of the Nigiri is a single piece starting from the $15 range for the high end imported fish and $5 per piece for local fish. The rolls are about $20 range.
