Came here on a late Saturday evening, since we drive by this place so much. Decided to give this restaurant a try with the AYCE Premium. We mainly used the Nigiri's and couple rolls. Service was a bit slow at times, and whenever a server would come by to serve us one of them would slam the cup on the table. The hostess I will say has top notch customer service, he was great! For some reason the fishes did not seem fresh to me, and I guess you can say I stopped ordering at some point. Would I come back? Probably not, I have had more tastier and fresher tuna and other fishes. This place did not catch our eye, but at least my husband and I can say we tried it. The ordering process was a bit confusing, using a QR code for strictly appetizers only, then using two pieces of paper for ordering sushi menu. Split nigiri's and then sushi rolls. We did not get a drink menu, until later on.
Rice to fish ratio here is AMAZING. So eating nigiri doesn't make you full fast like other places. They also have unlimited salmon belly and scallop nigiri, which is hard to come by. Even though I don't like AYCE that much, out of all the ayce restaurants I would definitely come back again. No parking issues. Service is fast. Ambience is whatever, just come for the food and you shall be satisfied.
We came on a Saturday afternoon and were seated as soon as we arrived. Parking wasn't an issue it's in a plaza. The restaurant was a decent size, with a variety of tables and booths, including a few tables near the bar. Our waitress brought us a menu along with a paper order sheet for the sushi. There were both à la carte and AYCE options, and we chose the AYCE option, which was $38.95 per person on the weekend. For the side dishes, they use a QR code menu. One thing to keep in mind is that there is a five-minute wait between orders, although I believe you can order multiple items at once. Side dishes were just ok. I did feel that the service was on the slower side, especially since the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. It took around 20-30 minutes for our first order to come out. As for the sushi, it was good overall. The fish-to-rice ratio was decent, and I appreciated that they didn't overload the sushi with rice. The portions felt well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy the fish without feeling like I was mostly eating rice. My favorites were probably the uni, yellowtail, and bluefin tuna toro nigiri. The hand rolls were a little disappointing, as they were smaller than I expected. However, if you prefer smaller hand rolls, then the size may be just right for you.
I came here for dinner and there was a small wait before I got seated. They only offer premium ayce for dinner. I ordered different appetizers and nigiri. My favorites was shishito peppers, yellowtail nigiri, and the bluefin tuna toro. The cut for each fish was inconsistent for the nigiris. Some pieces were smaller than the others. It was still good and yummy though. Overall, this is a good ayce sushi spot. It is worth for the price. I love how the fish is fresh and they give less rice for each nigiri piece.
Had a fun, casual lunch date at CHOBOP AYCE Sushi! We went with the Premium menu, and there were so many options to choose from! We started with the seaweed salad and yakitori, which were both tasty and made great appetizers. As nigiri lovers, we were excited to try all the different selections. My favorites were definitely the toro and yellowtail, and the uni was sweet and delicious! One thing I really appreciated was the fish-to-rice ratio. The nigiri had a small amount of rice, so you could really enjoy the fish without feeling too full too quickly. The fresh rolls were also yummy, with a good amount of fish and nicely balanced seasoning. Overall, it's a great spot if you're looking for good AYCE sushi at a great price. The staff were also super kind and friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable! Came by Chobop to try out a new AYCE sushi place, since I had heard good things about this place before it became AYCE. We came for a late lunch and were seated promptly. The menu is a QR code, with the same ordering style as X-fish (through phone for non-nigiri items). Nigiri ordering was with pen/paper with some specialty items with limited order quantities per person. The rice ratio was great for AYCE - the smallest nub of rice for a regular slice of fish. There were several options for salmon, which is what I typically come for - including salmon belly, torched, cajun torched, etc. The torched salmon was just a bit over-torched so it was basically half-cooked salmon. Quality of fish was decent, but some flavors or toppings (carpaccio, torched, garlic on edamame, etc) fell short compared to other similar spots. They did have a wider selection of non-nigiri items available to order though.
I came a few weeks ago for the lunch and got the classic menu ayce The staff was really nice and welcoming. The food was quite fresh and I loved how they come with less rice It's a nice affordable ayce option & would come again if it wasn't so far from me
I wanted to update my review since they changed their name and menu. Chobop is a sushi spot that offers and AYCE and al la carte menu. I came in for lunch during the weekday with one other person and we got seated right away. It was busy but not crazy. They ask you right away what type of menu you prefer. For AYCE they had the classic or premium option. The premium had more items such has eel and mussels. We went with their classic. I found their sushi to be of good quality for the price. We enjoyed their salmon and yellowtail nigiri which both tasted fatty. I liked that they had no rice rolls which were all good. I also liked that they came out as 4 rolls instead of the 8 that you normally get. The classic menu also included ramen. We got their spicy ramen which was good but I hated that it had a ridiculous amount of ramen noodles in there. I ate half the noodles and it felt never ending. They even had ice cream at the end (matcha and vanilla). Service was excellent. They kept checking on us. I did hate that they forgot some of our items on our first round. I think you get 3 rounds and you can order through them or mark the paper. The inside is very large and great for small or large groups. For value and option I thought this was a great spot compared to their competitions.
A friend took us out here as a treat and boy was it a treat! I've been saying "I need to find a go to sushi place" and I think I finally have. CHOBOP is an all you can eat sushi place with very affordable prices. They are flexible in that not everyone needs to order all you can eat sushi place - we had someone just order a few things à la carte. There were so many options with appetizers, handrolls, baked rolls, fried rolls, and sashimi. The waiter was super friendly and even handed out a free appetizer/dessert. General ambiance is casual and cozy.
We had a group of 5 and everyone left happy and voted to return. Good quality proteins, small amounts of rice on nigiri, $40 AYCE includes carpaccio, nigiri and rolls. Rolls can also be ordered in half size (4 piece) to try new things. Separate menu for appetizers also included in AYCE price. Friendly service team from host - server - busser. Clean establishment, large space keeps wait times low or none. Free parking in large lot, ADA accessible. We will return and recommend to family/friends. Our new spot.
Sometimes not everything on social media is true. Advertised as a new place to try out, videos were pleasing. Then I see here on Yelp that this place was just rebranded. My only favorite was the mussels. Sushi and sashimi did not seem fresh. Thicker cuts, but was kind of cold for me. I think the flavor is there. The concept of each rolls is there. It's just it's not fresh..... Service was nice. Their drinks were gigantic haha! I like that one. Place looked old. Had their own parking space. A plus! Ambiance was ok. Looked rugged for me.
I kept seeing Chobop circulating on social media as this new premium AYCE sushi spot with good quality and fast service, so obviously I eventually had to see for myself. I invited a couple friends and made them come right when they opened so we could properly attack this menu lol. There are different tiers, and we went with **Premium** because that's where you get the nigiri, carpaccio, sashimi and some of the higher-end items. Some premium items like bluefin toro, uni and sweet shrimp are limited to one per person, but there's still A LOT you can order. And we ordered a lot. We tried the tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore and octopus carpaccios. They were okay across the board. Nothing bad, but none of them really stood out either. The menu can be a little confusing. Some things are ordered through the QR code, miso soup you have to ask for separately, and there are a bunch of rules and different sections to figure out. I did appreciate that some rolls are available as four pieces instead of committing to eight. I'm not a huge roll person anyway, and the rolls were probably one of the weaker parts for me. My nostalgic order is always a Philly roll because I love cream cheese, and there was barely any cream cheese in it. They also use mustard-based sauces on several things, and as someone who HATES mustard... why are we doing this? Where I'd focus next time is the **nigiri and simpler items**. We tried a ton of those along with salmon belly, baked mussels, crispy tuna, udon, miso and more. The salmon belly was way fattier and larger than I expected -- more like an actual grilled belly portion than sushi -- so ordering three was definitely our mistake. We were cutting fat off trying to survive by the end lol. One thing I wish they did better was tell us what they were dropping off. We ordered so much that when plates started coming out, we couldn't always tell what was what. Service itself was attentive, but food came out at an interesting pace. We'd think we were almost done and then suddenly another wave would appear. Afterward I calculated what everything would've cost à la carte, and **we absolutely got our money's worth** with Premium. Would I come back? Probably. I'd order completely differently now that I understand the menu -- less experimenting with all the sauced items and rolls, and more stacking up the nigiri and things I actually liked. There's definitely value here; you just have to learn how to work the menu.
Tried this AYCE sushi place since it was promoted on TikTok. They have an extensive selection of nigiri and rolls which is nice as well as premium options if you're paying the dinner/premium price. The seared salmon was my favorite and the toro. Service was a little slow but it was on the busy side, so understandable. Plenty of parking outside. Definitely would come back if hungry and craving sushi!

Soooooooooo many rules, the restaurant staff didn't even know its own...... Never got to try the "premium" sushi because their logic was you can only order 10! pcs of sushi per person per round, and if you ordered over 10 pcs, they just push back the premium sushi. Huh? Did you know? Did it post on the menu? Did you make public announcement about one of your 100 rules? Now, just look at my pics compare with any other pics here, did they look the same? Ones I had felt and taste more like scraps from the fish body parts, mushy, soggy..... seriously how bad can you messed up eel nigiri.....The texture were soggy, mushy, dissolved once in the mouth... not in the good way.... Salmon belly!? Why did they have rubbery texture......These salmon must worked out a lot because there were NO fat in the belly..... I wasted my money, I hope you guys don't.... read more
sushi was super good and especially the rice portion!! they don't give too much rice which is perfect. presentation was also decent but they take sooooo long to come out. our 3 orders took the entire time limit and the limit of 10 pieces per person was ok but the timing of things coming out sucked bc we were so hungry LOL, staff/service was ok, but the sushi was great so it's fine i guess haha. we got the back corner table and it was so secluded and dark lolol read more
We were able to make a reservation for 11 and they gave us a table and seated us right away. Foods is good for a ayce. It's $39 +tax + tip comes to be $53 if you don't include a drink. They have a great selection of sashimi and nigiri. Good service and great appetizers. They give you free ice cream. Only thing was, they said we only had 90 mins to eat which we only did. Good appetizers- mediocre sushi. The service was super friendly and good on taking orders. The first round is limited to order which makes sense to scope out the serving size. We loved the mussels and agadashi tofu and was left on a great start. The sushi was just okay. I thought the presentation could be better, some pieces looked like scraps of fish. None the rolls or nigiri stood out to me. Fish to rice ratio was off as well. We ordered the baked salmon belly which is limited per order and I loved this dish! It was super fatty and flavorful. First time coming here and I honestly had a pretty great experience! We came around 5pm on a Thursday and the tables were slowly starting to fill up. The one thing I wantt o highlight about their pricing is that the $29.95 Classic AYCE price is ONLY available during lunch time (i'm assuming on the weekdays). So we had to get the $38.95 Premium option, but i'm glad I got to try all the menu items for my first time there. Highlights of the meal were definetely the King Scallop Sushi, fried items like tempura and shrimp pops (their breading is really light and crispy!), salmon collar (very moist and buttery), and the uni sushi! read more

1 hour has passed and we have not finished our round 1. The premium nigiri came out last. We got seated around 8:30pm, and at 9:15 the waitress came by and told us it was last call. We told her that our premium nigiri from the 1st round hasn't come out. She said she understands, but they are on last call, so that I can order right now. 15 minutes later, half of the order premium nigiri came out with the 2-round order, but we are still missing the second half of the premium. At 9:45, we still have not seen anything; we just asked for a check. We have to ask for everything twice: miso soup, takoyaki. It is a Tuesday night, and the restaurant is not that crowded read more
BIG BIGGG fans of Chobop! Their sushi rolls are fantastic. The ratio of fish to rice is balanced so it doesn't make you feel like most AYCE sushi places where they're just trying to make you full. They focus on quality of the food. I think my favorite part of this place is that you're able to order half rolls because I'm a huge sampler when it comes to food so I can try a little bit of everything on the venue. Service is amazing. They're extremely quick on bringing out the rolls. It's a casual experience and extremely clean. There's plenty of parking out front as well. Absolutely LOVE this place. read more

I opted for the classic ayce option, which is $29.95 a person. With this option, you get access to a lot of rolls, hot items from the kitchen, and the super basic limited selection of nigiri. If you like rolls, this is a good deal for you. I only eat the nigiri and majority of which are included in the classic option. I deducted a star because I see varying differences in quality throughout each nigiri I ordered. Some were really fresh and very delicious while others were subpar. The salad, gyoza, shrimp tempura, and baked mussels were far more impressive. As for service, I think they may need some extra staffs on hand. It's not a big deal, but it did take some time before I could get someone to come take my order form and get me extra wasabi and ginger. I wasn't in a hurry so I won't dock stars for this. The inside of the restaurant is very minimalistic and clean with a lot of space between other parties. read more
chobop is fire!! the service here is great, we had so many questions about the menu items and all the servers recommended us really yummy dishes we ordered sm diff sushi, some of my favorites would be the salmon, yellowtail, albacore, unagi squid, scallops and uni the fish to rice ratio is great here! the vegetable tempura udon here is so good, i love the noodles, so chewy! we also tried the shrimp pops and tonkatsu ramen, both which really yummy overall the vibes here are great, really good spot for date night or group dinners highly recommend!! read more
Great AYCE sushi spot with such great value! The rice-to-fish proportion is great and I was surprised to see that they even included a piece of uni, sweet shrimp, and bluefin tuna per person for the AYCE menu, which I feel like most places in socal don't offer. The servers were very sweet and checked in often. There's a good variety of side dishes you can order and I actually really love that each order of rolls is 4 pieces so you don't get too full off one or two orders and can try different ones, compared to other places that come with much more. The first round has a limit on what you can order but the second and third rounds don't so you can definitely get your money's worth. read more
We tried their All You Can Eat today -- and it was surprisingly impressive! Their AYCE menu includes premium items like scallops and salmon belly sushi -- not something you see often! They also offer a one-time order for sashimi carpaccio, uni, and toro, and honestly, the quality was amazing -- super fresh and well-prepared. We want to especially thank you our servers ( wrote down their names but forgot where I put , I'm pretty sure they are Shun and David). This is probably the best AYCE sushi spot I've been to in OC. We came on a Friday night at 7PM as party of 2 and were seated right away, but it was a full house. The quality of the fish was excellent, and the fish-to-rice ratio is honestly the best I've seen, the pieces had thick, fresh cuts of fish with the tiniest bit of rice. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the carpaccio and nigiri to the specialty rolls and appetizers. The baked mussels & grill salmon belly was my favorite appetizer. I'll definitely be back whenever we're craving ayce sushi. Highly recommend! read more

I come to this sushi place almost every week and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots. The staff are always incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole dining experience even better. The restaurant itself is very clean and well-maintained, and you can tell they really care about the quality of their service and food. One thing I really love about this place is the sushi. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect -- you actually get a generous amount of fresh fish instead of a huge ball of rice like at some other places. Everything tastes fresh and well prepared. The appetizers are also really delicious and definitely worth trying. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered so far. Their sushi rolls are flavorful, well balanced, and honestly just really yummy overall. This has become my go-to sushi spot and I'm always happy to come back. Had a really great time here - the standout nigiri was definitely the scallop for us! Thick cut, fresh & delicious! All the fried apps were surprisingly yummy as well, especially the shrimp pops. The quality is not very great but it's AYCE; you're getting what you pay for. The hot food comes out really late starting from round 2 and the premium cuts are not worth the extra $$. Otherwise, this is the same ayce as any other ayce so feel free to drop by if you're in the area. read more

First time here yesterday. Would have given 5 stars if not for their kids policy. 51" and over is an adult!? Total scam. My kid is 7 years old and I had to pay $39 for her LUNCH!!! Would have walked out but she has low blood sugar issues and we needed food immediately. Food came out fast and was very fresh and delicious. Really did not appreciate paying premium ayce prices for myself and a child and then there are STILL items that are not ayce. Make that make sense please!!! You're already charging an exorbitant amount for anyone over 4 ft just in case and then you limit what that person can eat??? It really rubbed me the wrong way immediately when we walked through the door. Would have loved to recommend this to the community but the money grab on the children is ridiculous. I would still recommend everyone go to AYCE sushi in Santa Ana. Same quality, no limitations and they charge children appropriately. read more

I had such a great experience here! I ordered the ayce for lunch and I thought it was so worth it. The sushi was fresh and tasty. Our server was nice and friendly, he kept checking on our table. We dined here on a weekend evening with a larger party and called ahead to ask about an estimated wait time. The staff were kind and helpful, getting us seated shortly after arrival. The AYCE menu is extensive, with a wide variety of options from appetizers to nigiri and rolls. I especially appreciated that the nigiri didn't have too much rice, each piece was well-balanced and allowed the quality of the fish to really shine. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the fish was excellent. Standout items for me were the giant scallops, uni, and seared salmon. They also offer carpaccios, which were well prepared. We ended the meal with a scoop of ice cream, which was the perfect way to finish the night. Overall, this was a great AYCE sushi experience and I would definitely come back again! read more

We decided to go try X-fish, because chobop is our spot we go weekly, and both of us regretted it so much and wanted to go back to chobop mid eating. My point is, don't waste your time at other AYCE sushi's, chobop is simply the BEST! One of the biggest reasons I come back here is the staff, they're always so welcoming and have the best recommendations and make this place feel like home. read more

What a disappointment. I've been going to sushi imari for years and loved it. Phenomenal sushi and service. Finally got around to trying its replacement, "chopbop", and sad to say, I agree with the other reviewers on the significant decline in quality. I got takeout, so I cannot comment on any changes inside. But it was bad enough, we wont get it again. Much better sushi options in OC. read more
We used to love this place à la carte but not so much with all you can eat- largely, because we aren't big eaters to make it worth the money but also the menus and system is way over complicated. Tables next to us were fully maximizing all rounds / capacity but we barely got through half of second round. My older daughter is only 8 but is very tall and they made her pay the full adult price for all you can eat ($30), and she can barely eat a quarter of the max allowance. Not sure we love it enough to be regulars (we used to come to this place at least monthly!). Service is friendly. read more
I think that the food is actually a 3/5 but the service makes this restaurant a 4/5. I honestly was kind of sad that this had to be the case but the quality of the fish was just not up to par, especially when there was so much hype on TikTok about this place and comparing it to the place that was here before chobop. The tuna was just alright but I liked the salmon a lot and the toro was good as well but that was about it. The guy that was serving us was very nice though and made adjustments to our order when he thought we ordered too much which ended up saving us in the end so shoutout to him! read more

Had AYCE (classic version which is around $30 per person) and for the quality and price, it was very good. The fish to rice ratio for the nigiri was PERFECT. Service regarding sending food out was slow for a Thursday afternoon, but there was only one server working the floor so that wasn't much of an issue. We did have some items that were missing so we had to let our server know in order to get it in. Plenty of seatings inside and everyone was nice. Would definitely come again, especially for the salmon nigiri and the apt roll! read more

I went to an All You Can Eat sushi restaurant today (Monday) around noon by myself. The restaurant offered three pricing options -- I chose the Premium option for $39.99, not the regular lunch one. The sushi quality was excellent, especially the seared salmon sushi, which was perfectly done. The other sushi items were also fresh and tasty. However, the cooked dishes were just average, especially the pork ones, which I wouldn't order again. Overall, I think the $39.99 was well worth it for the sushi quality alone. The environment was bright, spacious, and clean. There were about four or five staff members working, and only three tables of customers including me -- pretty quiet for a Monday lunch. Normally, I'm a big eater at All You Can Eat places, and I usually tip around 80% because I know the servers have to bring me food multiple times. But today, when an elderly lady at another table asked about the menu, the waiter explained there were three price levels. She seemed to think I had ordered the $29 lunch instead of the Premium one and kept glancing my way. That made me a little uncomfortable. So, although the food was great, I ended up giving a smaller tip than usual, even though the service itself was fine. Yes they do take out orders. You can order online using their website or call in an order for pick up. You can also wait there for an order but their waiting area is very small.

our salmon come from different sources since we carry 3 kinds, it's farm raised in Scotland, New Zealand, and Canada. we cut fresh salmon daily
What precautions is this restaurant taking in terms of being safe from COVID-19?
I called to order over the phone. You only go in to pay and they ask you to wait in your car then they deliver your take out to your car. All the staff are wearing masks and gloves.

They do catering and parties but you have to call in to request what you want and what day for pricing.

Do they take reservations?
They do not take reservations, but the are definitely worth the wait.
