Sushi District is the first sushi place in California that I genuinely enjoy. I visit Japan almost every year, and honestly, one of the main reasons I go is to eat sushi. The difference in quality and flavor is usually very noticeable. When I asked the staff why their sushi tastes so similar to what I get in Japan, they explained that they make "real sushi" using a blend of red vinegar, apricot, and French salt in their rice. The flavor is so well balanced that you don't even need soy sauce to enjoy the sushi. They also receive fresh fish almost every day, and the quality was honestly unreal. Every piece tasted incredibly fresh and carefully prepared. What made the experience even better was the service. Everyone was warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, which made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. What's even more surprising is the price. Sushi starts at just $1.92 per piece, which feels crazy for the level of quality they're serving. It's rare to find sushi this authentic in California, especially at such an affordable price. Dear chef, please reduce the vinegar in the rice. First time in the restaurant yesterday. I ordered the variety of nigiri. The fish and rice ratio is perfect. You can taste the freshness and quality of the fish. The only thing off is the ratio of vinegar the chef cooks the sushi rice which is too overpowering. The first bite is very impressive but all I can remember is the sour taste from the rice even with the unagi piece. Other than that, service is great. read more

The kid asked for sushi, so we decided to try something new. Reviews looked promising, and I'm always a fan of a place I can grab a last minute reservation at. There were definitely some highs. The place itself is super cute, the veggie tempura was spot on, and we loved the "nuclear bomb" and the yaya roll was the favorite of the night. That's where the standouts and though and overall it was a bit hit and miss for us. Service was mid at best. A table that was seated after us was able to order and get their food before we were even given the chance to order, and we had to flag someone down multiple times just for the basics. For the other food we ordered, the golden dragon roll was just okay and honestly had way too many toppings. The three item bento box was a lot of food, but the teriyaki chicken and beef were not enjoyable and I wouldn't order them again. The spicy pork had good flavor, but was way too greasy and barely had any actual pork. Glad we tried it, but I don't see us coming back. read more

We had dinner here the other night. There is a small parking lot available. The restaurant itself is quite small and can fill up quickly. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants and sushi restaurants in the OC. The quality here is unbelievable. They get fresh fish deliveries 6 days a week. We let Chef Chris create whatever he wanted for us. It might be my go-to order on my next visit. We started with ceviche. They take nori and deep fry it into a chip. The shrimp, octopus and vegetables piled on top were not only generous but absolutely delicious. A great and refreshing way to start off the meal. Then came the nigiri. The Toro melted in our mouths. The sushi rice uses a red vinegar that makes you just want to enjoy the nigiri as is. Do not add any shoyu to it. That would be a huge injustice to the nigiri. The jumbo scallops, the A5 wagyu, the Saba, the red snapper, yes everything we got was unreal. The freshness and the flavors were incredible. We also got some rolls. The A5 wagyy roll was so good. The toro roll just reminded me that you can never have roo much toro. The blue crab roll was a rice-less roll and just stuffed with blue crab. One of the best sushi meals I have ever had. Came here for lunch on a Friday and it wasn't too bad. This place is located in a corner plaza so parking can get tight and of course people can't drive for shit. The ambiance is a very cozy feel and the service is good. The cool part is seeing the chefs cook in front of you when they make the rolls. The matcha drink is trash don't get it. 0/5. The peach tea is lit. 5/5. The Wagyu roll was amazing. Lots of flavors and I almost got full off one roll. The Wagyu literally just melts in your mouth. 5/5. The geisha roll wasn't bad. Looking for a sushi spot near the hotel my family was staying at. I asked for a recommendation from staff at the front desk at the hotel and they were no help. So I looked on Yelp and found this spot with 4 1/2 stars. Sushi District did not disappoint. Jay our server was kind & helpful. My bf and I were craving sushi and stumbled upon this place randomly. This restaurant is located in the corner of busy, small parking plaza! It was easy to join the yelp waitlist. It's a pretty busy spot as it's pretty small, but there is both indoor and outdoor seating available. Parking is limited, but free in the parking lot. I think I found our new favorite sushi spot in Costa Mesa. I found it when we were driving in the area and noted to come back. I went for a solo date night and spent about $20 on 4 pieces of sushi and a roll which was not bad at all and I left full. I then took my partner a month later for him to try it and he loved it. We got the black dragon roll which we loved and the golden tiger roll. They don't skimp on the fish and overall it was delicious and affordable. The staff is great too. Oh this place is great! A friend brought me here for my first time recently and I've been back so many times after to show it to more friends. They have a great deal on nigiri and it is such fresh delicious quality fish. The place is pretty small but they fit a lot of tables into that space. Dining while out of my home area this place dis not disappoint! Great food, I'd give it $$$ not $$ but the food was great service thoughtful and prompt so I have no issue paying more. For the diabetics I would have liked to see a non family sashimi plate on the menu. Something in the 13-15 price range with an included soup n salad for around 35-45$. I made do with the family plate and two extra no rice cucumber Philly rolls. Left happy and full. Will come back next year when I'm down for the expo and bring my family! Wanted decent sushi that was not overly priced for the evening and ended up here via Yelp. All tables were taken for dinner so had to wait about ten minutes for a table. You put your name on a clipboard that's hanging on the door. Korean owned sushi joint. They also offer Korean food such as bulgolgi etc. They have happy hour Tuesday to Saturday 2-530 pm, probably a packed house at this time, not sure. My water tasted very odd so I couldn't drink it. Comes in a metal cup with ice. Not sure if it was the ice that tasted funky or what but I couldn't stand the taste. They offer many varieties on their menu. Tried a bunch of rolls and their 3 item combo set which comes with salad and miso soup. The rice in the bento box was cold and hard. I've never eaten rice like that before. Sushi District is a true find! My girlfriend and I stumbled into this restaurant because we were in the center nearby and were starting to get pretty hungry. The quality of the sushi, the sake, the beer, the wait staff and sushi chefs will make up for the 5-Stars I'm giving today. The sushi was incredibly fresh. We ordered hamachi, tuna, salmon, albacore, masago and ikura niguri... and we had some toro sashimi... wow, SO GOOD... Thank you, Sushi Chefs! ... and the cooked food was just as good as the sushi. We had the lobster roll that was beyond tasty! And the yellowtail collar was so delicious. I can't believe we had forgotten to take pictures! The food was as good as the fancy overrated sushi spots. So we got some rolls and everything was just delicious and so fresh. Very generous size wise. Since this was our 1st time there we tried a little of everything. My favorite was the California tempura roll...heaven. They had lots of choices of fish . I had a mobility cart and even though it was a small place I had plenty of room.They also had outdoor seating.
