First time here, definitely won't be the last.

Cal Shabu has some of the best service I've experienced. The waiters are incredibly attentive and genuinely mindful. Sonny, in particular, was so thoughtful . He brought me lemon tea and even asked if I wanted Raw honey after noticing I had a sore throat. The Kobe beef was AMAZING. Absolutely mouth-watering. I'm definitely coming back. Broth is light and flavorful not too overpowering, [[HIGHLIGHT]]atmosphere is calm chill with loft style music. Perfect for lunch dates BTW.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thanks Jonny for packing my leftovers porridge! Great customer service!

My family and I have come to Cal Shabu twice, and both times the experience was amazing. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They will show you how to cook the meat properly and will mix your sauces and broth for you. The first time we came the owner was there and he was super friendly as well! He was one of the main reasons we came back a second time. When you come, I highly recommend getting a broth to put in your hot pot. For an extra $3.50 you get what is essentially a second meal. Personally, I liked the tonkatsu broth but my sister liked the spicy miso better. I would also recommend the ribeye or the beef belly. The beef belly is delicious and a little cheaper, but the ribeye will melt in your mouth! It was my sister's birthday and they gave her an ice cream as a dessert. When we went, we spent about $40 a person, but I think that this is definitely on the higher side. We all left completely stuffed and with another entire meal for the next day. We averaged 11.5 oz of meat per person. To give you an idea A proper serving size would probably be around 8 ounces of meat (or less) and the veggie plate with broth.

Great customer service, every single staff member was friendly and knowledgeable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone around us was happy and having a great time. People taking shots of tequila and even staff members were taking shots, everyone was having a fun night[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We were having a hard time with the menu and ordering the right thing but our server was patient enough to walked us through every step of the way. They offered us drinks multiple times, we only had tea and water. We felt like we had our own personal cook, she did everything for us. Next time we will not need as much help . [[HIGHLIGHT]]We liked that the whole place felt inclusive and welcoming. Everyone kept checking up on us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Be ready to be on the waitlist for a while, we waited for about an hour. Highly recommended restaurant.

Update: the manager surprised me with some kabocha slices today after seeing my review I posted a while ago. I appreciate businesses that listen and pay attention to their customers. Now I know that I can request for these on future visits. I already gave them a 5-star review earlier. This review just further justifies why they deserve that rating.

One of my favorite places!! Service and quality 10/10. They're extremely attentive and create such a fun experience especially if it's your first time !

I gotta start by saying that the customer service here is top notch. All the workers are very attentive and come over if you need help. This was my first time trying Shabu and I didn't know how it works but our server came over and explained everything and offered some recommendations. This great place and everyone knows each other and the quality of the food is 10/10

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The food and vibes were amazing, but what really made the experience was the service!!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Felt so at home here. All the workers are so kind and attentive, making you feel extra taken care of. Special thank you to Sunny for the hospitality! You can tell how much they really care about their business and the environment they create for their customers. 1000/10 recommend. The lychee and mango sorbet were to die for

5 stars. No words. Amazing. We got the Sunny special, he made our sauces taste so flavorful and turned our shabu into an udon soup at the end. All the staff are so friendly and the yuzu sparkling sake was so yummy. Come here if you're looking for real shabu.

We love California Shabu! We have been coming here since it's opening back in the day. Dinner time is always a lengthy wait. We usually go for dinner, but this time around, we decided to go for lunch. Lunch was quick and efficient. Sonny was there to help us and he is SO AWESOME! We ordered the large prime ribeye and the pork belly. The meat is sliced in front of you. We received our veggie noodle plate, our sauces and we ordered hot sake and Orion beer. I like my sauce spicy, so I requested for 3 hot drops in my ponzu. Restaurant is really cute. They have anime inspired murals all over and a cute little waiting area with a TV and a little arcade game. Very clean. Restrooms are clean too. Highly recommend. Get there early if you are planning on dinner. Lunch is usually no wait. Last seating for lunch is 1:30PM.

IMO, all entrees at any of these shabu places are all the same. But the service here is excellent and the one thing they have here that none of the other shabu places has is the jelly fish appetizer, everyone should try it, it not as weird as it sounds, it's really good.

My "large" portion of beef belly and pork belly...

This place used to be in Long Beach on second street right?

    No they do not

Is there high chair for toddler?

Yes, they do have high chair for toddler. Every time we are there, the high chair is very clean :)

Are they open for dinning or just Togo only?

They are back open for dining :)

Is available sitting right now? Is there a way to make reservations?

They have a list you put your name on at the door or on Yelp! It's a great system!

What sauce do they use? By which sauce, I'm talking about the light brown sauce they give you. Many use it to dip their vegetables and/or meat in. If anyone knows the name of this sauce, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!! 😊

Ponzu is the one for vegetables. Goma is the thicker sesame one.

Does this restaurant work for parties of 8? Do they take reservations for lunch?

We take customers at a first come, first serve basis. We can accommodate larger parties as well. We do require that the entire party is present prior to being seated. The Cal Shabu team works at a face pace to help aid with quicker turnover and…

What broths do they have ? Are any vegetarian broths?

    I don't believe they are.

The ambiance was so cool with lots of Asian inspired decorations, total eye candy. The line for the drinks was a little long but went pretty fast and we were lucky to score 2 seats inside almost immediately. If not, you can stand around or sit on other little tables on their outside patio. You can view the drinks through a QR code, a wall menu or above the bar. The drinks were really good with fun names, it was hard to decide which I'd make my first! A great place to visit and enjoy a good drink.

If you have some time while browsing The Lab during the day, I recommend stopping by for a drink! It's also nice to include in your barhopping itinerary in the evening since there are a number of breweries around too. I've had mixed experiences with the bartenders. Luckily, the gentleman manning the bar during my most recent visit was very friendly. Drinks are always great. I've tried a variety of drinks from the menu here, but my favorites are: -Love in Drunk, a lovely cocktail with cucumber and grapefruit flavors that create a fresh watermelon taste when mixed together -Bee's Knees, short but strong and sweet -London Mule, very herbal thanks to the gin and very refreshing

But I was caught off guard by the lack of music and overall how quiet the whole place was. I went on a Friday and there weren't many people there, which isn't bad just something I had noticed. Very stark comparison to the other breweries in the area, which were much more lively. The beers itself were decent; however, there were no prices posted anywhere on the chalk menu, or the paper menu from what I saw. I ordered 2 drinks, one of which needed to have the keg replaced. When the attendant returned she said they were actually completely out, but the drink I had ordered was a double IPA, and without any prices posted or itemized receipt, I wasn't sure what I was able to get instead. The attendant then tells me "if you get something cheaper, I won't change the price" which confused me. A double IPA is typically more expensive than a regular beer or seltzer and she didn't even offer a refund to compensate for the fact that it was sold out and I had already paid for it. This could have been mitigated if the prices were available or she offered me an itemized receipt. For 2 beers I paid $20 before tipping. As a customer I'd like to be informed of what I'm getting charged for, and if I'm charged for something more and given less, I'd like a partial refund. In the end I got my beers and sat down. The brewery itself doesn't serve food, so it was nice being able to bring my own food and est what I want. Again, up until 30 minutes of being there, no music was playing, so very off putting vibe. Overall, I did not enjoy my experience here and don't recommend anyone coming here when other breweries are in tbe area and much more clear with pricing and have a more lively vibe.

The service is fast and friendly, whether you're going togo or dining in, they are always great. Whenever I have questions regarding the beer selection, they always have an answer waiting. Speaking of beers, they have plenty of house made brews as well as some local and unique offerings. I tend to gravitate to seltzers or lighter beers and they plenty of choices for me to grab. I love the Lavy Lemonade, Flying South, Like Super Profound, and the New Adventures: Nitro. Their menu does change so please make sure to check what they have avoided when you go. The Like Super Profound was a Japanese beer, light but great taste, and the Nitro was smooth. I don't doubt anything on their menu currently is not worth trying while you're there. The food is also great, the pretzel, and wings hit the spot for me and my girlfriend as an appetizer for a movie while we sat and drank waiting for the start time. The chicken sandwich was hot and crispy, on the smaller side but good nonetheless. The tots, regular or loaded are just chefs kiss, always crispy, must order if you are there.

It's just their food is that great. However, to be honest, the only food items I've had are the classic double smash burger and tater tots (plain or cheeky style). Now beyond the food and drinks, the service is pretty efficient and the staff is welcoming.
