We happened upon this newer brewery on our last trip to Costa Mesa / Santa Ana area. We always hit up the other breweries in the area and this was right down the street. Building is colorfully painted on the outside so you can't miss it and the inside is decked out in a cool disco / 80's theme. When it comes to SoCal and beer, let's be honest...there's no shortage of award winning beer...in fact I'd say we're straight drowning in it!! Too many choices, absolutely a first world, yet relatable problem, what's a girl to do??? Why would she choose Synth? Synth Beer feels like a bar; a place where adults can come and unwind, with a little atmosphere, some ambiance, and a low-key, atypical-beer, beer community, it's giving "cheers." The aesthetics are on point; intentional and stylish, disco meets retro tastefully, with a music centric energy. It's a space made to be a vibe. Although I do enjoy going to breweries, I always feel a little meh...as increasingly they lean into the "San Diego" "big brewery" feel... soooooo, they always feel same-same, barely different; like a Sunday sports backyard kickback, a man cave, a dog park and a children's birthday party had a super baby...what is really going on here? Feels a bit chaotic. Synth is the opposite of this: compact, stylish, friendly and personable. A.Max owner/manager greets you with warmth and a big smile, you instantly feel at home. Cool brewery with some retro vibes and excellent options for drinks. Been here a few times now and the draft list seems to change each time but if you have any questions they're always happy to answer. We got the Depending on the Scenario and the Soft and Quick as Shadows which are their the new dry hopped saison and lager beers. Both were really good and just full of flavor. The place itself is really cool with the retro interior and a nice little outdoor patio area. It's also very dog friendly. Parking however, can be very tricky for this area. Will continue to visit this area and excited for any new beers in the future. read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Nice beers, fun theme. Stopped in with some friends for a post-hike drink. We were sad to see that Gunwhale was no more, but hey, another brewery! Not sure what the synths-beer connection was, but whatevs, all the 80s-style graphics were fun. I wanted to keep things light and Just had the Lazer Lager (light, crisp, refreshing). Synth Beer was in a heavily trafficked area with a difficult parking lot! There were other things nearby which we made a little pit stop here and there. Upon walking in, we were already amazed with the theme and decor. We came up to the beertenders to look at the menu and noticed we had limited options. They didn't have an IPA so I opted for the West Coast Pilsner called "Damn you, Gravity". Not many words were exchanged between me and the beertender. We took a seat in the back. Took a sip of the beer and I can't say that I was amazed. I'm a west coast fan and lover of hops, but I wasn't loving it. I think I will have to come back. Their menu had a "coming soon" sign on an IPA, and I think that will have to be my calling to try this place again. read more

My friend invited me to a dog rescue event at Synth Beer, and I had such a great time! I ordered the Lychee Mocktail, which was delicious. The staff were all super friendly, and the space has two large TVs, making it a great spot to watch sports. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms--which I definitely appreciate! I have been loving this place! It is the perfect brewery, that always has a rotating cocktail inspired beverage for those of us that don't like beer (me). I got the lychee martini recently and it was so good! Very much on the sweet side though. They also have seltzers and hard iced tea along with the plethora of beer options. The prices here are really good, I think my drink was around $8. The beers are around this price too and cheaper. The ambience inside is cute and eclectic. We have been coming here for date night for a couple drinks and playing cards. It is on the smaller side with not a ton of seating, so I wouldn't recommend for super large groups over like 6 people. Also so fun when they have a food stand outside! Service is also super friendly. Will continue to go back here. read more

I am thrilled this place opened up because the vibes, service, and drink selections are 10/10. While parking is limited in the area in general, Synth has their own designated parking. While they have a variety of beers to choose from, they have an excellent choice of seltzer and cocktails (and mocktails). I had their Mai tai seltzer and their Hard tea seltzer. Both were dangerously good. Slightly Sour food truck was whipping up the pizzas and that was 10/10 too. The service was amazing, their food truck partner was tasty, and there's so much seating inside and outside. This place is just winning in all areas of what most breweries would lack. Don't skip this little brewery! They're located directly across the street from Green Cheek. Green Cheek (deservingly) gets all the hype, but Synth was slinging some amazing beers. My son and I walked across the street "just to see" and ended up trying 5oz pours of most of their beers. Their westies were better than any of the ones we just had at Green Cheek that day. The co-owner/brewer came from Green Cheek...so you know he knows his craft. The other owner was there as well and they're both super cool dudes. Just fun to talk beer with them. They had an Italian Pils called "Wassa-matta You" (great name!) that was stellar. I got the last 4 pack so...score!! Oh yeah...and their prices are great. Right around $4 per 16oz can to go. I can't wait to hit these guys up again my next trip to OC. read more

Between Synth and Green Cheek I feel blessed to live across the street! Synth has quickly become one of my favorite places to have a beer. Incredibly comfy atmosphere between the very friendly staff and seats/tables etc. I love sitting at the bar because the oversized velvet-like cushions/backrest barstools are so comfortable! I love to read my Kindle while enjoying a pint here! They did a great job upgrading everything about what Gunwhale was. They really took advantage of the space and made it way more inviting! Also and most importantly! The beer has all been incredible. A lot of the same styles you find at Green Cheek but their own version and definitely just as good! Review for IPA drinkers: Started with the Boots and Cats WC IPA Smooth, moderately juicy, aroma. I'd drink three more. $8 Pint w tax- good price point for area. Next is the Hazy: "She said Yes" I would say "Yes" as well. Think Stone Delicious w/out the overly hoppy finish. Body- Check Smooth- Check Haze- double check! Bit dry on finish and when I go Full Hazy...I want a bit more Juice on the nose and palate, but honestly, locally, this is a solid. I'd have another pls Decor: Fem 80's Not a place I'd bring da Boyz, but prob wife. Two TVs - open to requests. Service is friendly Tip: ask for 5oz. Honestly, this spot is such a solid addition to the Randolph strip--feels way less chaotic than some of the bigger spots nearby. The music theme isn't just a gimmick, the playlist was actually good and the whole "living instrument" vibe makes sense once you're inside. I tried the Shamone hazy IPA and it was super juicy without being heavy, but my friend wouldn't shut up about the Lazer Lager, which was surprisingly crisp for a craft place. They don't have a kitchen, but the food truck out front (I think it was tacos that night?) was perfect. Definitely a chill place to hang if you want good beer without fighting for a table. read more

I was fortunate enough to take in this new start up brewery while in Costa Mesa over the weekend. Great selection of fine crafted beers in a very comfortable setting. The service was outstanding. I'm picky about micro brews and after tasting their range of brew selections, it was clear there was considerable expertise that set it apart from the surrounding breweries at a reasonable price.
