This is the best sushi restaurant in Orange County. I've eaten at a lot of excellent sushi places, most notably Sushi Ota in San Diego during its prime, where I've been at least 100 times, and I also worked as a server at half a dozen sushi restaurants earlier in my life. That's why Mika Sushi still confuses me. How is a chef and management family this talented still working out of a restaurant with only nine tables? They deserve a place with 100 tables. Today the nigiri was some of the highest quality fish I've ever had, and even the hot sake was the best version of it I've tasted. Most places cut corners on the sake. You can taste it. But Mika clearly refuses to compromise on any ingredients. I've never seen a small local sushi restaurant stay this consistent. Plenty of places, especially sushi spots, start strong and then quietly switch to lower quality fish. I've been coming to Mika for 8ish years, and they somehow are even better now than when they started. This was a business meal & very embarrassed about the outcome and to be feeding these for a business meeting. (1) Chirashi Bowls ($21.95 each) - Extremely NOT fresh and of poor quality fish. There was barely any real sushi. Even the the fake crab meat was mushy. - Tons of furikake was sprinkled between the fish and the rice, and some kind of sauce was added on top, in a seeming attempt to mask the non-fresh taste (2) Bento Boxes ($18.95 each) + $1.50 per item for selections from an upgraded list - Chicken Teriyaki was extremely dry, and chewy like chicken jerky. Tasted like it was previously cooked & frozen, and re-drenched in sauce. - Beef Teriyaki was not as bad, but still super dry - Salmon Teriyaki was horribly dry and hard. We also ordered a Rainbow Roll & Hawaiian roll, which were slightly fresher on the interior (the fake crab meat + avocado). Exterior fish, specifically the tuna, was not very fresh. Overall the rolls were less disappointing than the bento box & chirashi bowl. Would not be ordering from here ever again. read more

Mika sushi is located close to the discovery cube so if you and your children are having a craving for sushi it is right down the street about a four minute drive parking is easy. Food is delicious and fresh. They have a lot of rolls as the choices. They even have udon and Ramen. The service is really quick too. Ordered takeout today and this place is just bad. We got a shrimp tempura crunch roll, in & out roll, some salmon sushi and sashimi, and yellowtail sushi. Everything was not fresh tasting at all, and the consistency was leathery for all of the sashimi and sushi. Even the shrimp tempura roll was soggy and had a very bad taste. Dined in. First the positive, friendly, chef, and polite server, nice tables, clean looking. Negative: sashimi had very thin rubbery tuna which still had a band of its sinew. This means the tuna slice is cut poorly, the chef didn't scrape the meat away from the connective sheet, so you end up with a piece that feels like rubber band or dental floss in your mouth. My kids have rated this place twice 5/5 and one of them being very picky says a lot. This place is a small location in a strip mall across the street way from Main Place. My default has always been the bento boxes since I enjoy a little bit of everything. My boys under 10 will split a bento so it makes it easy for them as well to get a little of everything. Part of moving to a new job is starting to get familiar with the local places around the office. Since mika sushi is within walking distance to the office i decided to stop by for lunch one day to try it out. The restaurant is rather small so only 5-6 tables are available. The menu is pretty diverse and provides a lot of options. Not only do you have your typical cuts of fish and rolls but you also have your traditional bento boxes with options like tempura, teriyaki chicken, beef, salmon etc. Overall i found the quality of the food to be decent with a price point that is comparable to other similar types of restaurants. Avoid this place if your a delivery driver. They do a "tower" packaging for all they're to go orders. Where they pile PLASTIC containers on top of each other and tie the bag. Well, plastic slips on top of each other. I picked up an order that was packed this way, and when I dropped it off. One of the sushi rolls had slipped out and sauce was all over the bag. I ordered the tempura udon, it was very simple yet filling. I feel like for as simple as everything was, it did seem a bit over priced. I also ordered the salmon hand roll which is not on the menu but it was delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed, yet inviting. Tuna love roll, In in out roll, and Aloha roll were fantastic. Server was sweet but slow and she forgot my fourth roll the Cactus Dragon Roll which we ended up waiting 20 minutes for. We finished eating the first three rolls before the 4th one even came. Food is good but recommend take out. Edit: Cactus dragon roll finally arrived and it was noticeable that the other table in the room also had this roll and they arrived 5 minutes after us. I found their food just okay. I love sushi and Japanese food in general and wanted to try another local Japanese restaurant. I ordered a bento with a spicy tuna roll, tuna roll, and 6 piece sushi. It tasted good but not worth coming back to often. I also got the Salmon Lover Roll and it tasted good. The sauce it has on the top compliments the rice and fish well. Mika Sushi is great if you want affordable sushi. Their quality though kinda reflects its pricing. I made the drive with one other person on a Friday night to check this place out. There was no wait on a Friday night when we arrived but there was a short wait when we left. I found their menu to have lots of specials. They have a great happy hour and lunch menu prices. They also have a lot of rolls and rice dishes. We went for a few rolls, including their spider rolls, lobster baked roll and lobster rock n roll. For nigiri, I got to try their their eel and salmon (about $5 per nigiri). Everything was very mediocre. The yellowtail on one of the rolls I got tasted dry, which I didn't even know fresh sushi can have that texture. We ended up spending about $60 for both of us. The service was also whatever. Our sushi rolls took awhile to make and we waited for awhile. They only gave us one dipping plate with wasabi and ginger for both of us. We had to ask for more. The inside of this place is super casual. Again, they have amazing pricing but if you are looking for quality sashimi or nigiri then this isn't the spot. read more

YO, Let me tell you guys about Mika Sushi. FOOD: I'm not a sushi expert but I'm also not a "California Roll" person. I've had pretty amazing sushi all over the world so believe me when I say this isn't Michelin star sushi but it gets the job done. So far I've been to Mika Sushi twice. The first time I had their bento box lunch special with the teriyaki chicken and the second I had their lunch special where you get to choose what two items you want, I had their tuna roll with tempura mix. I love the free miso soup, I can't stand places that charge you for that - it should be illegal to charge for it! I had a simple tuna roll and they put a generous amount of salmon, usually places get stingy when it comes to that. I will say their ginger was average - not amazing. I'll also say they have a good sized menu - not overwhelming but a good amount; they offer cooked rolls, veggie rolls, and fresh rolls! LOCATION: It's in a busy little shopping strip with Starbucks and Jamba juice so beware the lunch rush! We didn't have a hard time finding parking, though. Inside there are about 9-10 small tables so don't expect to bring a massive group in here. SERVICE: SUPER FRIENDLY! Both times I've gone they immediately greet me as soon as I walk in. They servers are very attentive and friendly. Will I come back? Yes of course, it's conveniently close to my work.
