It's hard to find a good sushi place in NW Reno and even North Reno/North Sparks area. You have to travel all the way down to South Reno to have great sushi. This is the closest I've come to having Grade-A sushi in the Reno/Sparks area. The people are friendly, the servers are quick and listen to you. When it gets busy the servers are still nice and don't really feel rushed. The sushi rolls are great. You can really taste the fish in each roll, unlike other places. The only negatives would be that the salmon skin isn't really fried as much as you want it to be, and there aren't many variations of sushi rolls, but it's the quality here that makes this place so great. read more

Came in Friday night at 545. The host sat us at the bar. The counter was slopped with sticky soy sauce and the napkins and chopsticks had obviously been used as they had soy sauce all over them. The server came back and my husband asked him if he could wipe down the counter and get rid of the trash. The gentleman came back to spray the counter but left the used napkins and empty beer bottle. He then dropped off our wine and beer that we had ordered. My husband told me to look at my glass and it was covered in someone's lipstick. So gross. This place is filthy. I'm so glad we just got up and left. Never ordered any food. If they can't bother to do basic cleaning in the front of the house then I'm sure the food prep area is revolting. read more

We have been in Reno for a few months now and this was our second time to have sushi. We actually came here because we didn't like the atmosphere at the other three restaurants we stopped at first. Walking in, we were greeted immediately and asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or a table. We chose to sit at a table. We told the gal that seated us that we were first timers, but she didn't get the clue that we were clueless how they "roll". When we finally looked over the complete menu, we began to order. The gal told us that we need to fill out the paper to order. We didn't know that! Sooo, after completing the order on paper, we got to check the place out. Pretty standard place with a couple of religious posters along with the rest of the wall hangings. We ordered the AYCE and really enjoyed all of it! A large Tsing Tao each, Godzilla, Crystal Shrimp, 7 Alarm, 2 orders of Yellowtail Nigiri, 2 other Nigiri items, and three other rolls whose names I can't recall. I also had a Quail Shooter, wife had Tempura Ice Cream. WOW! Very good! Fresh, pleasing to the eyes, and delicious. I was able to thank Kwon personally, and I certainly plan on returning. My only complaint would be that they need to take a couple of seconds to explain how it all works, so a first time guest would be more comfortable from the get go. I'm sorry about having to write a bad review because I have been coming to this location since it opened and even with new ownership it was great in the beginning. The last few visits I've had have been declining each time. The fish isn't as fresh as it us d to be as it doesn't melt in your mouth but rather chewy. Especially the snapper. And each time I don't get everything I order as I sit at a table with my daughter and fill out the order sheets. Speaking of my daughter I was charged a children's all you can eat which is 15.95 and she is 3. She had miso soup and a few pieces of nigiri. Seems a little steep for a 3 year old all you can eat. Definitely will not be back. Had sushi here last night, and most of the rolls were horrible. All were over riced, most were over sauced, the fish was far from fresh (already turning colors), and the deep-fried rolls were congealed and gross in the inside with a tough shell that had zero crisp. Then there is the service... Our waitress did not bring us water. Did not visit the table to ask how we were doing, and did not return to ask if we wanted more. Then, when I asked for a miso soup, she told me to get it myself at the soup/salad bar. NEVER AGAIN. read more

So this place is just really uninspired. The rolls are just the same old same old. The chef had no personality and the fish even seemed a little warm. The nigiri didn't conform to the rice. We eat here as often as we can!! When our all time favorite and usual hangout "The Sushi Club" closed its doors forever, we couldn't decide where to go. We had never been anywhere else! So we started doing some research and picked Sushi 7 out of the numerous sushi establishments here in Reno, Nevada. Needless to say we made an excellent choice!! Their food is fresh and tastes wonderful. Their service is excellent and the staff is cheerful. The environment is clean and tasteful. They also have stamp cards for returning customers (you get one stamp for each visit) that once full, allow 50% off of the next AYCE meal. All in all an excellent sushi restaurant. Tried Sushi 7 today dissatisfied. Went to pick up my food and they couldn't find my order. The girl in the front was very nice and helpful. They finally came to the conclusion that my order didn't print because of Grub Hub ordering service. Then they said they would move my order to the front and it would be ready in 10 minutes. Came back in 10 and the girl says the Grub Hub delivery person accidentally took my order and just brought it back . Ok mistakes happen but the boss comes over and says not to worry he personally remade my order and the one they were giving me was fresh. Well I get home and everything is cold and stale. I live 1 mile away. I understand mistakes but lie to my face and tell me you just got done making it when you know it's the order the GH person brought back. I have reviewed Sushi 7 in the past. It used to be our favorite sushi place, by far. We moved away for two years and were eager to go back to Sushi 7 after moving back. We were very disappointed in the experience. We arrived around 3:30pm on a Saturday- there were some people there but it was in no way busy. We made our first order and then proceeded to wait for a very long time. Some of our order came. The waitress told us the rest was on its way. It never showed up and she had to put the order in again. This happened a few more times during our visit- food just didn't show up. I understand a roll being forgotten if a bunch of stuff was ordered at once, but these were stand-alone orders. We were never offered refills on our drinks. The waitress would apologize for forgetting something, and then say "it's been a very long day." Umm, sorry? Not exactly something you should say to customers. We found out that Sushi 7 had come under new ownership. Not sure if that attributed to the service issues. We will not be going back. read more

First off, I never eat sushi because I'm allergic to shellfish. But I am a server in a restaurant so I know what customer service is, and this place doesn't have it. If I could give this place 0 stars I would, all of my group can agree we have never been treated with so much disrespect. I came in with a group of 8 and the second we got through the door we were glared at by the "hostess" because obviously she didn't want to do her job. The food was amazing I'll definitely give the chefs credit for that. But that is the only positive thing I can say about Sushi 7. Maybe we were stereotyped as younger people that don't tip, I don't know, but that doesn't excuse the service we received. I got to not only talk to the owner about how he personally breaks down and prepares the fish himself but also I got to watch him give some tutorial lessons to another chef. "I want you to use more fish and not such little pieces. Make everything balanced. People eat sushi to taste the fish. Everything else is to compliment the fish and not the other way around." The fish is so fresh and so good. I got to try a few off menu items like some out of this world Yellow Belly nigiri and a torched Hamachi fish head cheek. All the appetizers I tried were great which were the seaweed salad, edamame, and mussels. I tried 3 long rolls by just starting from the bottom of the list. Suddenly I found myself very full but really wanted to try some chocolate mochi. Which of course was so outstanding thst I took a photo of it to share here. Everyone including the other guests were really friendly and the floor staff made sure my hot tea pot was refilled. This is my new #1 local spot to go to every time. I was so happy and full with my sushi coma that I forgot to use my coupon! I loved it here and was so happy with my $27.95 AYCE bill that I also left a large tip for all the staff. Excellent service but simply miserable sushi, certainly waaaay to expensive for what you get ($17 lunch, $22 dinner, ouch) To me, this was very substandard sushi. You can't even find the fish through all the rice but when you do, it's mealy and chewy and bland. A few nigiri were topped with fish that tasted so off I actually spit them out. All the rolls were so similar that I started to wonder if the chef was just making me the same thing over and over. Maybe that's why they're able to be so quick - it's all the same roll with a few different things on top! I do not like the fact you have to write out every order. Weird. The atmosphere here is extremely off-putting and uncomfortable. I agree with others who said it's like being in a loud, cavernous sports bar. There was only one good food item here - the mussels. They were outstanding. But one single good offering is not enough to warrant coming back here when there are so many other places offering much better sushi at much more reasonable prices. NOTE: We ate here before they closed on May 30, 2012. The owners say their menu is getting a makeover and things will be different in their new location. Absolute worst service I have ever experienced. My husband and 2 teenage daughters just walked out. First it was not busy and the waitress was busy socializing and it took her 10 minutes to walk over and pick up the order sheet we had to fill out. We ordered 4 rolls, One came out we ate it, waited some more than 3 more rolls came out that was not ours. I then filled out another sheet so they knew what we ordered. Then they came out and argued that we ordered what was brought out and showed us an order sheet that was not ours. Once they argued with us, I paid for the one roll and we left. Pathetic service!!! So Sushi 7 has a new owner. Reno Famous Kwon! Sushi Expert that brought you, pretty much every top rated sushi joint in Reno. After taking a break and selling his previous restaurant, he took over this place and it shows. It's amazing how one person can turn a restaurant around. He's not like the typical owner who sits in the back and count cash. Kwon runs around his restaurant and makes sure everyone is satisfied. He checks in on the chefs to make sure they prepare the fish to his exact standards. Service here is always great. Chefs are lively and engaging. Then there's Kwon and his wife who makes sure you're satisfied. read more

im going to echo the same sentiments as several others here... I wanted this place to be great, I really did. I live about a quarter mile from here.... But when they served me ahi after i asked for albacore (this after confirming that they indeed had it), then tried to pawn it off as an innocent mistake, I knew we were in trouble (albacore is rare right now due to low catch numbers in the pacific) you dont wanna give me albacore? fine, then take it off the menu... Also, ponzu is NOT clear, it is a citrified soy sauce and should be dark brown. Strike three came when they finally brought out the real albacore.... TINY, I mean itzy bitzy, pieces of fish... seriously, four of these would not make one piece of nigiri at a top rated sushi joint. My advice to you sushi 7, either do it right, or dont bother... You are not doing yourselves any favors by cutting corners. I likely will not be back, but you can still save your operation by accepting that it has to be done right, especially with sushi! sorry, but 2 stars is the best I can give, and that's generous. //DJS read more

We have been coming to sushi 7 since they opened on Moana. When they moved to the northwest it was awesome. The new owners are doing a great job with the staff and the service as well. This is our go to spot. Order the Scorpion, it's not on the menu anymore but they will still make it. It's our favorite in either a long roll or hand roll. read more

Ok so, first off we get there and our waitress seats us asks if he needs a high chair for my little brother who's clearly 7 then asks us for our appetizers so we order then she comes back gives my little brother his edamame and he is sitting on his knees and the waitress grabbes him picks him up and says sit! put your legs down! After that we were just like ok then... then it took forever for us to get our food, we didn't get our waters refilled at all, we had multiple different waiters, and they just didn't have very good service all around.
