I'm compelled to write a review now with regards to their body sugaring services. On my first visit to the salon, I made an appointment and showed up early. Unfortunately, the technician was 20 minutes behind, so by the time 20 minutes had passed and my appointment was behind, I left. The owners of the salon wrote me a letter apologizing for the incident and offering me 50% off of my next service if I made a return visit. Very much in need of the service I came in for, I decided to make another appointment. I was seated and offered water (out of really cute goblets) and then the aesthetician, Ellie, came to see about me quickly. I went to her for a Brazilian, and she *TRULY* did not disappont. In fact, it was the kindest, least unpleasant hair removal process I'd ever undergone! Some areas she removed little by little, which meant far less pain...and in others, where you just want to 'get it over with", she did so. She also used pain mitigation techniques when she approached a particularly tender area, so that the after-effects of the sting didn't hurt like usual. And she's really funny too! I am very pleased with the end result of my return visit, and I'm glad I went back. I will ABSOLUTELY be returning for future services! read more

I love this place for my straight, frizzy hair and my husbands thick, big curled hair! I even started taking my son after too many bad cuts at other cheap walk in places. My favorite hair stylist (and owner!) is AMBER! She gets me... and she has done my husband's hair perfectly too! I love that they use all natural stuff, and even recommend other items unrelated to hair (i.e. essential oils to help with my health ailments, etc.) RONNIE is who cut my son's hair, and again, perfectly! So those two I can say are amazing! I also have gotten a pedicure there, and it was the full spa treatment and I was amazed the nail polish lasted 3+ weeks with no chipping, considering how rough I am with my feet! They do not cut corners! I also have done "sugar waxing" there with two ladies, one of which I think no longer is there, but the other (forgive me for forgetting her name, is the owner's mother), is very gentle and considerate of your wants! Wanting to find local hair salon, I looked on Yelp for some reviews and decided to try out Surrender and I was not disappointed. I parked behind the salon and when I first entered, I got a very peaceful, warm vibe. There was soft music playing, the lighting wasn't blinding (like most other salons) and the people in the salons looked like real people....not supercharged, perky Barbie dolls. My stylist was a very talented girl named Marla who gave me a little history on the salon and the wholesome, healthy vibe the owners envisioned for it. The salon has a very vegan, natural feel to it and the products stocked don't contain any abrasive, harsh chemicals. When I first walked in I was offered some refreshments and had a mini consultation with Marla, my stylist who walked me through various options to get the look I was wanting. She did an amazing job on my hair and I have already booked an appointment to go back. Not only was Marla extremely talented, but she was so personable! I went here for the first time today and I am so incredibly happy. Ronnie is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He has a beautiful energy and made my experience wonderful! I was so happy to have found a place so close to home and with such good reviews, but unfortunately I didn't have the experience I wanted to have. First of all, I will begin by explaining that my review is based only on how satisfied I was with my hair after getting it done here. With that being said, the place is great looking inside, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the people I encountered were incredibly nice. Maybe other stylist are better than mine but I wouldn't know that. Yesterday, I was getting my engagement photos taken and all I wanted to get done was a blowout with soft curls and some volume. This sounds like a very simple hairstyle to me and in my opinion one that any stylist should have mastered. Since my hair is curly and long, I decided to get it done at this salon just to enjoy my day and not stress about having to do my own hair (which I could have done much better with all honesty). I can't really say that my hair is hard to manage, it's quite thin and it does straighter fairly easily but if not curled properly, the curls will fall. Priscilla was the girl that did my hair and sadly she ended up doing the curls about three times because they just wouldn't stay. She added so much product to my hair that my hair ended up feeling crunchy and looking dull. About two hours after leaving the salon, my hair looked frizzy and the curls had fallen. My hair looked so horrible and I wanted to cry because I had no time to fix my hair before the photo shoot since I was also getting my makeup done. With the few minutes I had left, I tried fixing my hair but I didn't have enough time to make it look just right, and all the product that was in my hair made it even harder to work with. Over all, I had a bad experience with my hair at this salon and I will never be going back or recommending this place to anyone. I would like to give a review for Marla, a Surrender hair stylist. Marla has been doing my hair for about a year. In all of my interactions with her, she has been nothing but professional and polite. She's a perfectionist, and takes her time in making sure the customer is completely happy and satisfied with the results. Not to mention, she's a hoot! I was upset to read a negative review for her on Yelp. Marla is the LEAST likely of anyone I know to make racial remarks about anyone, ever. It's not her style or her personality. Aside from the fact that her boyfriend is American Indian, it would make no sense, professionally, for her to treat people in this manner. Marla's in the customer service industry, and loves her job. I must ask the question....why was this reviewer thinking about Marla and her "ignorance" on her wedding day? Something's up. Keep up the good work, Ms. Marla. I'm so excited to have walked into this salon! They have the Devachan products and Marla has been trained by Devachan in Soho. I had my first haircut with Marla a couple of weeks ago and I cannot tell you how many compliments I have received on my curls. I have also come back for color and she used organic. Just amazing. It took me an art show and a whole early morning shower to figure out what i'm going to say here. And those two words are it. Nah. People: sweet, open, helpful, constantly worried about my hydration level. ("anything to drink?") Place: cute, and well designed. The better to cut your hair with, my dear. Jamie: sweet, open but above all... trust worthy. after all, isn't that what you want from a person who is in charge of how you look to the world for the next 2 months or so (at least)? I did not worry one bit after i surrendered (get it?) my hair to Jamie. She KNEW what she was doing. Of course, it was (probably maybe) helpful that i had an idea of what i wanted and definetly made my mind about the general look. But Jamie made it golden! Love my hair. Love the way it sits even though i hav a whirl thingy at the back of my head that messed with all previous hair styles. I have a smile when i look in the mirror. (And that, my people of the interweb, is the most important part, as far as i'm concerned, of getting a new style.) My stylist moved to San Diego when I was in Spain last summer. I had been with her almost three years. I loved her to death. I thought about the news incessantly on the flight back and how I would go about finding someone new. Well, nine months later, my search has ended. Surrender Salon, you had me at "surrender." And surrender I did. I was first drawn to the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp. 88 people can't be wrong! But I have to say, getting to the location the first time around wasn't easy. I had forgotten that to get to where they are, you need to take the freeway. Not always the most convenient at rush hour. Lucky for me I left with plenty of time to spare. I didn't get to send those last minute emails I'd hoped to from the parking lot with the extra time I expected to have, but, oh well. My stylist was Josie. She was extremely nice, courteous, and down to earth. I felt at ease with her immediately. She also read my mind as to what I wanted: a sweeping bang. She also read my mind, apparently, when she gave me the most awesome scalp massage ever. The woman has great fingers! When all was said and done, I can honestly say that my hair felt light, healthy, bouncy. And the layered cut took little off my length, which I wanted, but gave me more movement, which I also wanted. I was looking for a new stylist near my house...and I found a salon and stylist that I love. I called Surrender Salon to schedule an appointment. Gaby (very friendly) answered the phone and scheduled me with Jamie last Saturday. The consultation with Jamie was excellent. I have curly hair and she took the time to study the texture of my hair and gave me the perfect cut to wear straight or curly. The shampoo was extra nice (almost fell asleep), and when we were done, my hair was flat ironed to perfection. I felt like a million bucks, but did not have to spend nearly that much. My boyfriend and sister loved the hair. It was even better when I washed my hair and wore it curly for the first time with my new cut. It was awesome! Im excited to go back to this place and see Jamie again. The salon also does massage, facials, waxing, sauna and is adding to their fitness area. There were also a bunch of cool products for sale. I found this place on Yelp and I started seeing Marla. It is so refreshing to find someone who is super passionate about what they do. That is Marla. She genuinely cares about making people feel better about their hairstyle and also offers so much insightful information about new trends, chemical processes behind coloring and different techniques to try on your hair. Marla is very thorough and makes sure she understands your desires. She also provides very good recommendations when you don't really know what you are looking for. I also find it very cool that she is always trying to learn more to better herself and her clients. This was an excellent bridesmaid gift to me, and a fine new addition to my list of places for self-improvement/indulgence. Surrender Salon. I needed a richer, darker brown shade to my hair color to liven things up (instead of my normal brown/ash color), and Jamie worked wonders on me. Jamie made me feel very comfortable that she knew what I was looking for in my color, and also gave my hair some bouncing curls and body, making my head look more voluptuous than the "wet cat" look I had when I walked in. I love going here! so far i've only worked with jaime (hair) and robyn (brazillian) and they are both GREAT! jaime does my color, I've colored my hair so many times so many different colors and i have to say that Jaime is the BEST! For the brazilian they do sugaring. it is painful but its worth it. my hair doesnt grow back as fast and its even thinner! Robyn really makes you feel relaxed too. I decided to come here since it was close to my house and had great reviews. First, the place and ambiance is very nice. The salon is very clean and welcoming. April cut my hair and she was great. She was very friendly and personable, took her time with my hair, and even showed me how to style my bangs afterwards (since I have no idea how to style my hair). I would definitely recommend April and Surrender Salon in general. The only downside for me was the price. I had my first CA haircut at Surrender Salon, and once again, the Yelper's didn't lead me astray! After passing this cute salon several times, I had decided Surrender Salon is probably where I would try...then I yelped & it was a no brainer! I walked in to schedule an appointment and was able to get in with Amber the following afternoon. I was running a little behind for my appointment, but she was flexible and so friendly. When I arrived, everyone in the salon made me feel comfortable and as I browsed around I realized the salon offered more than a traditional salon/spa. There is a boutique area with some great Eco friendly cosmetics & skin care lines. There is also a sauna and pilate's area in addition to the spa. My consult and haircut with Amber went great, and I love how my hair looks. Although the style isn't much different that I came in with, I would definitely trust her with an entirely new do. The prices were very reasonable for a nice salon. Amber also gave me a pass to try the sauna, so I will definitely be back soon. I've been going to Surrender for a little over a year and now that we've moved I started thinking of finding a new place. But I have to admit, I'm not finding many salons that compare. I'm addicted to Surrender. Anna is a great stylist - she helped me grow out some funky layers, then helped me go back to good layers, did my hair for our wedding. My husband has also been going to her and is completely addicted. She listens to what I want and gives a great scalp massage when she washes my hair. The salon itself is great - very tranquil. I had the BEST hair experience here EVER - hands down. If you have curly hair, I highly recommend making an appointment with Marla. She really is a curly hair specialist. The first thing she said to me when I sat down was, "tell me about your hair." I didn't even know what to say. Not once did any of my past stylists ask me to tell them about my hair. Tiffany created a romantic evening hair and make-up look that was so much better than I had hoped for and got me on my way to my event a half hour earlier than I planned for, which was an added bonus. They sell the lip color pencil used for my look, which was great for me to have for touch ups. I decided to give this place a try and I was happy I did. My appointment was with Michelle who did a great job cutting my hair. I'm always so scared to get a haircut because half the time, the stylist is always cutting off more hair that I like. Not Michelle! Update for Surrender... I had my wedding on 1/15/2012 (a Sunday) and Priscilla rocked it!!! I wanted a very classy Audrey Hepburn-ish do for my evening wedding. Priscilla was spot on! We had only one hair trial two months prior and the end result was lovely (see my profile pic..this is Priscilla's work on my wedding day). My three year old flower girl had her hair done for the big day as well, and it lasted all day through her running and jumping and, well, being a toddler during the event. I also brought my matron of honor and mother in law in to get manicures and my matron of honors manicure lasted three weeks (and she is a flight attendant so she uses her hands a lot..insert giggle!!) Randomly found this gem while looking for salons close to me. The salon it's self is so awesome and the vibe there is just so relaxing and cool. But the best part is the beyond amazing staff. Not only are they the nicest people but also so accommodating. I ended bringing my 1 year old and like any other 1 year old their attention span isn't a lot and they were so kind to let my little one look around and walk anywhere.
