Look at how great the accommodations are

I found Black Sheep Salon on TikTok a few years ago and I absolutely love my hairstylist Frankie. The TikTok highlighted that they specialize in gender-affirming cuts and curly hair and I was sold. Also, I could actually afford the prices. I even ended up hiring Frankie for my wedding day hair. I am chronically ill, autistic, and covid-conscious and it is so nice to go to a salon that gets all those things and offers accommodations as needed. I feel like my photos speak for themselves. I have never been loyal to a hair stylist but I will be going to Frankie until I die.

Cute queer owned salon. Check out their instagram for a better idea of their work. Majority disabled and neurodivergent staff that centers accessibility and overall acceptance. Furniture accommodates up to 800lbs. Really awesome intention and vibe in the space and the staff. Cuts all textures of hair, braids, cuts, vivids, etc. Prices are reasonable and some stylists offer sliding scale services. The owner, Emory, cut my hair and did a great job. They are super chill and were very thorough in answering all my questions. They even told me I have curly hair lol and I never knew. I will definitely continue to support this spot!

I had an amazing first curly cut experience at The Back Sheet Salon with Tombra! Everyone was so welcoming -- I instantly felt comfortable and cared for. I came in nervous because of past experiences with stylists who didn't understand my hair, but Tombra truly listened to me and made me feel seen. She explained every step of the process, shared tips and product recommendations, and taught me how to care for and style my hair (4b/4c high density). My hair has never looked this hydrated or defined! The salon vibes were great (music, energy, everything), and the prices are reasonable for the quality and care you get. If you have coily or textured hair and want a safe, knowledgeable natural salon in SoCal -- this is it!

I absolutely loved black sheep salon. The moment i walked into the salon i was instantly greeted , the vibe was welcoming and warm. I made an appointment with Tamera for one of my locs to be reattached , a retwist and a style. Let me tell you, Tamera did such an amazing job and was just a pleasure.

I love this place!!! There is truly no salon like Black Sheep Salon. It is inclusive to ALL, a safe space and full of good vibes! Frankie is my stylist who I constantly return to because they make me feel beautiful every single time! Frankie is the first stylist to ever make me feel like I'm not a bother with my hair. They make sure I feel welcomed, they never make me feel like my hair or my requests are "too much," and they always remind me how beautiful my hair is. I'll be honest, after years of people mocking my hair and other stylists complaining about it for "being too thick" or "too curly," I really did need someone who could give me and my hair some TLC!! Frankie does that every single time! I trust Frankie with my hair, my allergies and my needs. On top of Frankie's amazing service, the owner of this salon is outstanding! I've had the pleasure of meeting the owner a few times and I always feel welcomed by the owner! The other stylists in the salon are also so kind and welcoming! This isn't a salon you go to where the stylists are mean to you if you don't book with them, this is a salon where the stylists all support each other and the clients! I feel seen, respected and cared for every time I come here. It's worth the long drive for me! This is THEEEE place for fellow neurodivergent folks as well as anyone who is a POC or part of the LGBTQIA+!This place is welcoming to all people, all bodies and all hair types. Thank you, Frankie for constantly brightening my day any time I come out that way for an appointment! You've helped me love my hair again!

I love Black Sheep. The place is a vibe, good music and conversation. It's a very comfortable environment. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel safe and accepted. Tunowa does my hair but all these ladies get down. Especially on color and curly cuts. They use top of the line products and equipment.

FRANKIE IS A HAIR GOD I drove all the way to Long Beach from SD for some new hair. I am one of the most obnoxious clients to have because I am VERY bad at making decisions, and I don't know how to describe what I want (neurodivergent as heck). I also have an incredibly sensitive scalp. Frankie was incredible and helpful. They helped me decide on a direction to go with my hair, suggested calico hair dye, and went to work. Honestly, the most pleasant experience I've ever had at a salon. I absolutely love my hair, and this is the coolest hair I've ever had. I will 100% be returning in the future, despite the drive, because it's totally worth it. Some additional notes: - Frankie was my stylist and is extremely patient, kind, talented, smart and accepting. - the salon itself is very accessible and beautiful. The decor and vibe was amazing, and it felt like a very safe space. - parking was easy (but be careful to read signs! I accidentally parked in a street sweeping area and got a ticket lol) - they have stim toys! - they offer gender affirming services, and can do hair for all hair types. Black Sheep Salon is incredible and I feel so blessed for being able to experience such a welcoming and pleasant place.

The front area has a couch to sit in plus there's fidget toys there now

Been coming here for over a year. LOVE the energy here. Everyone gets along, there's so much teamwork. It's inclusive to all peoples and bodies. I think the chair can hold up 800lbs, but ask them to verify. The wash station also allows you to recline more instead of just tilting your head back in a classic chair at the salon scenario. If you need a quiet talk free appointment, extra covid precautions, private room, ear plugs, fidget toys, snacks or drinks they got you! Marie is the owner and my go to. I've chatted a bit with Tunowa and Frankie, admired what a 70s babe Dinnie is, and have just recently met Mimi. Gandalf is there now chilling in his lil froggy bed and is the absolute cutest. Marie is excellent with my curls. As a black woman, it has been a struggle to find someone who can take care of my curls and not tell me I should just press it just to get a trim. Each time Marie has done my hair I get compliments on how beautiful my curls look. Your first appointment does include tips ans techniques on how to manage your hair. I will definitely continue going back and supporting this business.

    Check out that aesthetic .

I absolutely loved my experience here. Black Sheep Salon really seems to pride itself on its inclusiveness and bold sense of individuality; as someone who is pretty offbeat and is neurodivergent, this really intrigued me. I generally have a lot of anxiety especially in regards to my appearance and always feel super self-conscious when at salons, but those negative feelings melted away in this space. Super quirky and filled with positive vibes, this space is designed to serve all people. The chairs are super comfortable and roomy, everyone was super friendly, the aesthetic really emphasized being yourself, and the overall vibe was just amazing. I booked an appointment with Leah for a curl detox and lesson and they were so awesome, gentle, thorough, nonjudgmental, and very patient; Leah was completely transparent about what products they were using and the process, and I felt very well taken care of during my service. My hair looked and felt fantastic for the first time in forever, and Leah shared lots of super useful tips to help maintain my curls as well. I really appreciated the entire experience. I very highly recommend this salon and will definitely be back!

The wax technicians are absolutely amazing; they're skilled and make the entire experience as comfortable as possible. In terms of services, I always opt for the playboy bikini wax. I've been waxed by just about every gal in the shop and I would honestly recommend any one of them. The service is relatively quick (about 30 minutes). Time seems to fly by because the conversations are always a high point of the service. The gals at TAOW could teach gynecologists a thing or two about making a girl feel comfortable while being exposed. On top of that, the pricing is affordable, especially considering the high quality of the service. It's rare to find a business that offers both great value and such a personal touch. If you're looking for a waxing spot that truly cares about its clients and delivers outstanding results, this is the place to go! Don't forget to tip your waxer. After all, any service at The Art of Waxing is cheaper than therapy with results of instant gratification!

Waxer was nice, but you could tell she didn't want to be there and that the early morning appointment was an inconvenience to her. Constant yawning and saying it's too early to be here. Lacks professionalism. I left with wax, baby powder, and still portions of my leg with hair on it (like literally missed my whole inner thigh and outer thigh). I walked out of the room and told her I still had wax on me and she just apologized and didn't take me back into the room to remove it. Wax all over the trash bins, floors dirty, and baseboards with who knows what all over. To add onto that, when it was time for me to turn over on my stomach, there was still wax on my leg which ripped the paper lining I was laying on & I could see old blood stains on the cloth under. At that moment, I seriously should have walked out and left. I still left a tip but needs serious improvement as I expected more from a service that has 4.8 stars on Yelp. Avoid if you value cleanliness, etiquette, and overall have high expectations. Will be returning back to my previous waxer.

The lobby and treatment room seemed clean and welcoming, and the service for checking in and out was also pleasant. The service itself was unfortunately not great... I got a Brazilian and lower half legs. My sugarista was kind and a good conversationalist, but the technique was just not there. I've been getting sugared since 2018 and this was the most painful experience. It's typical for my legs to twitch as a reflex during the backs of my calves and ankles, but I'm pretty adapted to the sensation of a Brazilian. I was sadly near tears during this service. It also took a long time, but that is understandable for sugaristas who aren't the most experienced. Because of how the service was going, I casually asked her how long she's been sugaring, and I think she answered just under 2 years. During our conversation, I mentioned to her that I sugar my own underarms sometimes to save money/time, and I ended up giving HER tips... I hope my advice at least helped her, lol. For the amount of time it took, I at least expected to have minimal hairs left behind. But my entire "horseshoe" area was still full and I had multiple patches of 6-8 hairs on each leg. To be fair, before checking out, the staff did ask me if everything seemed good, but there were so many patches that I would've felt nit-picky pointing them all out. I ended up touching up the areas myself a few days later with homemade sugar wax; it was too many hairs to tweeze away individually. Overall, I don't regret my visit because I had a wedding that weekend and couldn't get an appointment with an independent sugarista on short notice (which is how I usually get sugared). But I wouldn't recommend it as a regular place to go, especially because the prices are about par for independent estheticians who usually have 5+ years of experience. I absolutely understand that newer estheticians have to work somewhere and practice in order to reach that level of expertise, but maybe the business should have reduced prices for services with the less experienced sugaristas like hair salons do for stylists with different levels of experience.
