Response for appointment was good. However I didn't have the opportunity to try this salon. I really wanted to but unfortunately the only way to make an appointment is by providing a credit card number. I personally don't feel comfortable providing my credit card information through a text. And honestly I get that you may not trust people with cancellations however this is just not safe for me. And people should have the right to cancel if needed. For this I choose not to get my hair done here. Sadly I do consider this poor management decisions because now you've lost a potential long term client. Unfortunately I never got to experience this salon. It took several unanswered calls to finally reach someone to make an appointment. When someone finally did answer, I let them know what services I would need. They took down my name and number and said they would call me back so the stylist could go over time frame and exactly what I would like done. I never received a call back. I've been going to Pricilla for almost a year now and she does such an amazing job. My hair isn't curly anymore it's slightly wavy and she does a great job. I leave there happy all the time. Since moving to LA, I've been on a hunt for a good esthetician that fits my criteria. I Yelped called several places wondering if they use the hot wax (I call it the "blue gel wax" for its jelly consistency). The Yelp reviews for this place didn't help me much because majority of the reviews was about the hair salon and all the reviews of the esthetician didn't give me enough information. Nonetheless, curiosity got the best of me. "Sugaring" intrigued me so I made an appointment. My first impression was this place looked up-scale. It definitely did not match the neighborhood (whereas, it's somewhat questionable). They serve Keurig and filtered water for its customer and the front desk was polite. My appointment was at 4pm and I came in about 10 minutes early; however, I wasn't seen until about 4:15pm. I'm unsure if this is normal. So what's "sugaring"? It's a very DIFFERENT experience and be advised, who ever said that it's "virtually pain-free" is lying. You get the uncomfortable and painful feeling when the sugar is being applied more than when it gets pulled out. Sure, it does the job and it's a better alternative than using the cloth and wax, but it was torture. And the reason for the pain was because the sugar gets applied AGAINST the hair and it was a very thick substance that does not spread easily. On a lighter side, the esthetician, Ellie, is super nice and tries to make you as comfortable as much as possible. She was thorough, talks you through the process and answers any questions you may have. The price of sugaring was more expensive compared to what I was used to, and I didn't think it was worth it considering that I felt almost nothing with my old esthetician. In all honesty, I was not completely satisfied with my experience and definitely made me miss my old esthetician, Vickie. So unless I find a different place, I would have to come back here. read more

I previously went to Supercuts for an ombré, and I can out with a bunch of different shades of color in my hair, not to mention, my hair didn't look anything like the picture I showed them.... I couldn't stand my hair, so I decided to come here for the first time to see if they could fix my hair or do something to make it look better. I originally came in for a consult, but I guess Ronnie had time to fit me in, so we went right into it. He offered me coffee, tea, and water before he even got started. He told me what he thought of my hair and the process he would need to take to fix my hair. And at that point I was just like 'do anything you have to to make it look nice.' Ronnie mentioned that a lot of his clients come in with the same problem... And he also mentioned that he had turned down a couple people in the past because he didn't want to damage their hair even more (which goes to show how honest he is, and how he has the clients best interest in mind rather than money). Throughout the process, he made small talk with me and shared some interests. He, along with the others were very welcoming and friendly. After about two and a half hours, my hair was fixed!!! This place is amazing! First when you enter it has this amazing relaxing vibe. Then you're greeted by the nicest person ever - I forgot his name, it's been a few weeks since my first visit. This was my first time visiting Surrender since moving out to Long Beach. The stylist, Michelle, was so nice, very personable and a great stylist. I have NEVER had so many compliments on my hair before. But, everyone I run into and all my co-workers are always complementing me on my hair cut. And it's been about three weeks since I got my hair cut. It's like everyday I'm getting a compliment on them, even by strangers too. It's honestly the best feeling ever. My stylist Priscilla provided me with the devacurl cut. Although I like my hair cut and am satisfied with the way it turned out I wish to provide as unbiased feedback as I can. I went into the salon with an expectation of having the famous Curly girl haircut but it felt much more like a regular haircut but without wetting the hair with water. From my understating the devacut is done dry and with the curls in their most natural state. Although my cut was done dry the hair was brushed (or raked) out before the chop. Not really honoring the actual curl. I was a little surprised to be completely honest, but I took it with a grain of salt because I was coming into the salon from work with unwashed hair and in a "hair-tied-up-into-a-bun" type of hair style so she did what she had to do to give me a clean cut. Priscilla is an amazing conversationalist and she is willing to listen to your wants/needs so you can be assured that she will hear you and ask for assurance when she has a question for you. It was my choice to remain quiet and ride out my experience, but then again some other people are more attached to their hair than I am. In the end I am very happy with my haircut and really enjoyed the experience. If you are looking for a super cute and intimate boutique that is away from the busy part of Long Beach city and want coffee, wine, or water while you wait or while you get "worked on" and with personalbe staff to hear your interests then this is your place. The salon missed the five for me, but barely. Had I been talked through why some of the choices were being made more frequently then I would have had more peace of mind. I got my hair done by Priscilla and while I understand that she knows what she's doing for curly hair, she didn't listen to my request to keep as much length as possible. I ended up with about 4 inches chopped from my ends and a crazy amount of layers. I look like a mushroom. I told her I have been trying to grow out my hair and she showed me how much she was going to cut off and then did way more than she showed me. I'm incredibly disappointed because I've been working for the last three years to grow out my hair. I asked her to dust off my ends and shape my layers, not completely give me an entirely new look. I think a lot of hairdressers prioritize the health of the hair over what the client asks for. My hair is prone to breakage and I was okay with that because I wanted length. She gaslit me at the end too, saying, "I feel like it looks longer!" Sorry. No it doesn't. It's a completely new look and not what I asked for at all. read more

Hello Yelp and fellow Yelp-ers, Surrender Salon is a very welcoming, peaceful, and pleasant place to get beautified. We visited in January and met with Tiffany for the first time. Spoiler: She is awesome. We had spoken beforehand regarding scheduling and what we were looking to achieve during the appointment. She was patient with us and adjusted her scheduling to accommodate us. My then fiancé & I had gone in for haircuts in the late afternoon (and into the evening) before our marriage day. There was quite a lot of hair to chop off and style between the two of us. Tiffany was incredibly kind and thoughtful. She even generously offered to restyle/curl my hair the following morning in case the curls had fallen. I didn't think that would be necessary, but apparently, my hair was so smooth that it kind of rejected the curling by the end of the night. So, I did take Tiffany up on her offer (begrudgingly because I didn't want to bother her). She fit me in the following morning, and my hair was nicely styled for the entire day. It was and forever will be a happy time in our lives. She truly listened to us. We felt heard and walked out of the salon with the exact haircuts and styles we had hoped for. Couldn't have asked for anyone more wonderful than Tiffany. She went above and beyond for us. And, we couldn't thank her enough. I love this salon. I've been coming here for years. I've had facials, massages, blow-outs, and special occasion hair combing. This isn't my regular salon, but they have spa treatments and legit if anything happened to my regular hairdresser, I would totally come here. I've only had a great experience. Dylan gives the best facials, I've had several from her, and I love the Eminence products she uses. I have also had a the reiki massage and a regular massage. I forget the names of the ladies that treated me, but both were amazing! I recently had a my hair combed for my company Christmas party by Priscilla, and I looked fabulous! Of my 6 years in Long Beach, the one thing I've never really found was a regular salon to go to. However, after a couple of visits to Surrender, I think I've finally decided. I've never been much of a salon person. I just don't really like walking into that super bright white room with rows of chairs and mirrors and that weird chemical perm smell. The lack of those things at Surrender is probably why I like it so much. They have two...maybe three chairs there...not in a row either. Chairs are set up in front of awesome antique repro vanities. There are even couches and nice lighting - not crazy bright fluorescent lights. I go to Amber who is one of the owners, she has no problem taking her time and never seems to be too rushed while working. They also have skincare services, that I've yet to use, but quite possibly will next time I head over there. The one downside is that it is a bit expensive...I'm not sure how much more expensive than a typical salon, but it's up there. Let me just say that I have been here several times and have gotten my hair done by both Ronnie and Priscilla and both times I left extremely happy! I called in Saturday morning with a HAIRmergency! My hair was super damaged on the ends from all the things I've put it through... (Sorry hair. I never mean to hurt you!) and desperately needed a cut because my split ends had split ends (I don't get my hair cut as often as I should) and mostly because a friend of mine called me out on it at work. Embarrassing! The receptionist asked if I had been there before which I had seen Ronnie in the past. I came to him months prior to get a nice copper balayage and I was very happy with the outcome. He seems to be the go to person for balayage & I agree! If that's what you want, you can definitely trust him to get it right! He wasn't available for a cut that day but Priscilla was. I have to say that I LOVE her! It was probably the funnest time getting a haircut! I felt like we were just girlfriends hanging out while she was doing my hair. We also talked about makeup, which she does also. She even showed me some tips on how to hide my dark circles under my eyes. She listened to exactly what I wanted to do with my hair and even offered some input which I appreciated. Also, my favorite part is getting my hair washed and she even massaged my head and neck for awhile and seriously almost put me to sleep because I was so relaxed. I asked her about her pink hair because I've been thinking about doing a very subtle rose gold ombre on the tips of my hair and I think when I decide to do the plunge, I think I'll be giving her a try. Edit: I stopped by a few weeks later to receive the same service and for some reason was charged $10 more. They said it was cause they used hot tools but I saw the same stylist and she did the exact same thing we did the first time for $40. It was off-putting and I was in a rush so I couldn't hah it out but make sure to remind them what you've paid if you're getting a repeat service. I called around 11AM for a same day appointment on a Friday (I know I'm an asshole). But guess what? THEY FIT ME IN. What a beautiful accommodation. I scheduled a blowout at 3PM and was seen promptly at 3PM. Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted very kindly by a sharp-dressed and kind gentleman. He served me some water and let my stylist know that I was there ASAP. A lot of salon receptionists take their time and delay--but this dude was on his game. Okay, and let's just take a minute to talk about their decor: C U T E and S E R E N E. Seriously, it's a vibe and even if you rush in like the hot mess I was, this place is gonna calm you down. They sell hair products and cosmetics out front and many of the products boast being organic etc. The hairstylists are also super accommodating if you're looking for products so be sure to ask if you need a recommendation. Now let me tell you about my girl, Tiffany. I came in with an awkward cut and so much no all over my head. I needed help. And she delivered! TBH I'm a picky bish and typically leave the salon plotting my stylist's "suicide" until I calm down and get my hands on a brush at home. But I left this time, 1000% happy with how it turned out. Tiffany blew my hair out and asked me how I was feeling. I told her I was looking for more of a curl so she pulled out the curler. She really took her time and was careful with my hair. She also educated me on the status of my hair. Most importantly, she was 100000% transparent and honest about what she could do as a stylist for me. I have massively curly hair so she recommended that if I needed a cut, to ask for her colleague who specializes in diva cuts. To top it off, the blow out wasn't really that expensive when you compare to what most salons would charge. I paid a flat $40. I used to pay that much for haircuts but the times they are a changin' and now in Long Beach most salons I see charge a minimum of $60. I did try to shop around for the blowout and the cheapest I could find otherwise was $55. So I highly recommend this place for my ladies/non-binary folks looking for full service on the cheap.
