I had really long hair and wanted to just chop it all off to donate it so I was a bit nervous (my hair has never been shorter than my shoulders). I had an appointment with Priscilla and gave her some reference pictures but wasn't sure what would look the best for a pixie cut because of my facial structure and I just told her that I trusted her and to just do her thing. Love love love this place! Came here really early, like right when they opened, before class. Michelle was my girl and she was amazing! She asked questions so she can have a feel of what I was going for (I needed my ombré fixed). And she did exactly that. Fixed my ombré and made it a more natural flow to my hair. It no longer looks like I dipped my hair in bleach. Although it can be a little on the pricey side, it is totally worth!! Trust me!! So far, I've only been to Surrender for sugaring, but in looking at their prices and the knowing the quality of care they give you, I'm ready to bring all of my my "self care" to the salon. It's THAT comfortable of a location that I'm willing to see what ~whomever~ has to offer in terms of cut, style and color. Regarding my visits, Ellie is a sweet and relaxing person, who made me feel right at home for my first EVER experience with professional hair removal. (unless you count that time I cried and left after only getting one underarm waxed....) Any way - sugaring with Ellie was painless, and now, I dare say addictive. After trekking up to the valley for 2 1/2 years because I couldn't separate myself from my stylist, I finally turned to yelp for help. I happily found Surrender. They were able to book an appointment quickly. The staff was very warm, they offered refreshments while I was waiting and had a nice selections of magazines. My appointment started on time which is always a plus. The salon was very clean and had a nice ambience. Jamie was very friendly and knew exactly what I wanted when I explained it to her. They used great vegan shampoo and conditioner. My haircut came out great and it was definitely reasonably priced. Another big plus was the music. It wasn't smooth jazz or your mom's music, it was Morrissey and Bjork. Yay! read more

They got back with me the next day to confirm the availability of the requested time. Booked it with Priscilla. Waited 20 minutes because Priscilla has another client. No problem, tea and coffee available. Priscilla is awesome! She listened to me and took care in coloring my "virgin" hair. Educated me on hair color and how to choose the right color for my skin tone. Love love love her! She took care of me for 3 hours!!! Surrender Salon is my go-to for getting my eyebrows tamed and the occasional facial. I love that it's a 5-minute drive from my house, and with an appointment, you'll be taken in almost as soon as you walk into the door. Belinda is my girl for eyebrow sugaring! I never thought I'd find someone so quickly after moving back home after college, but she just gets it. She understands the best way to keep my eyebrows cleanly-yet-fully-shaped. I always feel confident after having Belinda work on my brows, because when those are in order, I don't see the need to do my makeup on a casual day. I seldom get facials done, however when I do, I come here. The Salon's line of products are all-natural, and the aestheticians really do understand what works best for your skin. Recently, when I came in for a (once-in-a-blue-moon) 90-minute facial, the electricity went out thanks to the lightning "storm" that delivered a whopping 2 inches of rain in the LA Basin (el lay problems...). At that point, I was 20 minutes into my facial and 2 minutes into a mask/peel. Hope was so kind to finish what she could in the dark, and was gracious enough to reschedule the entire session. I'll start out by saying I'm not a local! I live in Texas and here for a couple weeks visiting family. I use Yelp often when I travel and always love the places I find! This salon was no different. I called and made an appointment for the next day no problem. Based on the reviews it seemed like it was going to be just what I had in mind and it was all that and more! There was a bit of confusion once I arrived with my appointment time and the services I was booked for vs what I actually wanted but it was not a problem. I had sugaring done with Belinda. I never had sugaring done and was told it was painful but worth the results. I had underarms and eyebrows done. Hands down the least pain hair removal when compared to threading and all types of wax. My eyebrows look amazing and I love the results from my underarm. Belinda made me feel like a regular, our conversation was constant and I wish I had more things to sugar so I can go back and see her! Love Love Love Belinda! I'll be back next time I'm in California. I also had a manicure and a toe polish change. Like I said I'm from Texas y'all lol and I've been to my share of salons but this one is up there! I frequent a spa in Austin that uses SpaRitual Polish and was so excited to see that they use the same line of products. Karen did my manicure and polish change and was great! She too made me feel like a regular. We chatted and I quickly found out that she lived in the city where I currently live for 17yrs! How crazy is that! This review is long over due. High five to Surrender Salon for always delivering superb service. Jamie is my go to gal for my hair. I've found my cutting queen and wouldn't change her for the world. My current cut has gotten me so many compliments, I fear my head might explode from being so high in the sky. All thanks to Jamie! Jamie is great at explaining what she wants to do with your hair before she does it. She pays attention to your style trends as you cut with her more and more and she takes your personality into consideration when giving you a chop. Her scalp massages are like heaven. I had been searching for a new stylist to handle my curls and I found Surrender Salon on Yelp. A little background about mah hurrrrr --Very dry without product, hair in disarray in the mornings and it's almost fro-like and out of control, especially when it gets too long. For years I would mostly wear it in a pony tail with the exceptions of special events like parties, church, interviews or a night on the town. As far as salons are concerned, I previously would go to Paul Mitchell School in Costa Mesa because it was more affordable. Although I liked the results 95% of the time, I didn't have any particular stylist do my hair on each visit (bc the stylists are students). Therefore, each hair cut I received was never the same. Plus I wanted to find someone more local that understood my hair better and so finally I read great reviews about Marla, a Hair Stylist at Surrender Salon. Let me just say that I am BEYOND IMPRESSED with her technique and skills. She truly understands how to treat my hair and I love that she explained everything to me before and during my appointment. I instantly felt very comfortable with her handling my hurrrr. After my hair appt with Marla, I really saw and felt a huge difference. My hair had volume, moisture and softness. My curls actually looked so natural and bouncy! And I absolutely LOVE the fact that she taught me how to wash and condition it and recommended the right products for my hair. I used to not wear my curly hair down because it was a pain to style it and it always got too long so my hair would get weighed down on top (not a good look!!) but I am going to apply everything she taught me and use the products . I went last Tuesday to Surrender after reading so many positive reviews of this salon and felt I must add how much I enjoyed my experience as well. Amber, who was my stylist, gave me her undivided attention from the moment we met. We discussed what I wanted - I even brought in a picture. After seeming to "play" with my hair, she noticed a cowlick and a section of my hair that grows heavier than the rest, so she suggested a slight modification of what I wanted and she went to work. She also gave me a great scalp massage while at the shampoo station, which, in my experience with other stylists, is a rare treat. Amber, who is also the salon's owner, also exemplified her salon's philosophy that beauty is achieved from the inside out. We discussed healthy eating, exercise, family and a variety of other topics. I didn't walk out with just a great hair cut; I also walked away with information on how to treat myself better. The interior is clean and calming. Nothing was out of place or dirty. The other stylists and office assistant were also friendly and helpful (I really appreciated that the receptionist called the day before to remind me of my appointment - thanks, nice touch). One final comment: another person suggested that the salon was in "the ghetto." I showed up 20 minutes early and walked the block area around the salon. Well, no, it's not exactly the ghetto; it's actually on the edge of Bixby Knolls. Behind the building are charming older homes and duplexes. Next door on one side is a building filled with medical offices. The other side had one empty store - which, sadly, is indicative of the times. Even Huntington Beach and Newport Beach have empty stores fronts now and I don't think anyone would call those cities "ghetto." So, if you want to support a business that is reflective of values that makes the City of Long Beach a great, fun place to live and work - that being unique, creative and distinctive, this is a wonderful shop. However, if you are looking for a completely pristine, perfect and bland experience, this may not the place you will want to go to...Irvine is less than thirty minutes away - take the 405 South. Veryyy bad. The style that she gave me with tongs did not even stay for few hours for which i paid 60$ ! There are other salons where I have got my hair done and it stayed for more than 2 days till I wash it. Ihad 100$ gift card which they forced me to use at their salon as according to the receptionist it could not be used at other place after using at the salon once . So I sent my mother the next day for a haircut . She asked them to give whatever services are available in the remaining amount that is 40$ . They disagreed saying 60 is minimum . I feel the need to review this place, even though I had my hair cut here in May 2011. THAT'S HOW AWESOME THIS PLACE IS. I went in with hair I had cut myself (bad idea), and no idea what I really wanted to do with my hair at that point. Eva was sooooooooooo helpful with asking what I wanted to do with my hair, and fixing what I had totally messed up. She took her time with cutting my bangs too, which I liked a lot. It freaks me out when someone just chops my bangs off. I feel like what she did to my hair was a miracle. I literally have not cut my hair since then, and i am still in love with it. Go here! Stylist - Marla I have been going to Surrender Salon for about a year now. Marla is the BEST stylist I have ever had for a variety of reasons: 1. She really listens to what you want (ex: I just want a trim and not notice a difference, she "trims' my hair of the dead ends vs. chopping off 4 inches like past stylist I've encountered) 2. She is an expert and gives the best advice when it comes to your hair (ex: knowing I wanted to grow my hair out, she suggested using masks every week and coming in for regular trims and a major change - laying off using heat) 3. She has a wonderful knowledge of the products in the salon (ex: even though I don't have curly hair, she has turned me onto the line that she brought into the salon, Deva Curl, because of the benefits of using the product to keep hair healthy and moisturized. She also turned me onto using Neuma hair mask 1x a week) As much as I hate to admit, whenever I got my hair 'trimmed" by past stylists I would be unhappy with the results. They would either trim too much, too little or completely butcher my hair in general. Marla has always given me the best hair cut every time I come into the salon! I would recommend her to anyone! Eva rocks! My hair is super cute and the color is out of this world. Eva understands when I say "don't be afraid to go short" and she gets it when I say "cute and tapered" she really understands! I was referred to her and I would refer anyone who hates their current person to give Eva a try. She is fun to talk to and knows her stuff! 2 paws up!!!! I also had sugaring done by Elle. Changing hairdressers makes me nervous since I have some bad experiences. I had a hairdresser who at the time became ill and I really needed a haircut and color. I was livivng a block away from Surrender when I decided I couldn't wait any longer. I was booked with Jamie (Gatlin) Campbell for this first visit. I gave her my expectations of what I would like my hair to look like. She was very attentive, asked questions, and overall friendly. She made my visit extremley comfortable. She is a great conversationalist. Finally, when my hair was finished it looked EXACTLY like I wanted it. I have since been a client, which has not been over two years, and Jamie continues to be my hairstyist of choice. Jamie is so good at what she specializes in that I often take a seat and just let her do whatever she thinks will look good on me. She has cut it short, long, with bangs, without bangs, worked with a palatte of hair color. She especially made my graduation special when she added the purple color into my hair without it looking over the top. I always wanted to dye my hair color purple but didn't have the guts. But with Jamie, she can work wonders and helps my wild side come out. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Jamie is a major Duranie like me. She is also married to a wonderful guy, Peter, who is an awesome tattoo artist. I have referred my Aussie friends during a recent visit. Unfortunately, Jamie was unavailable that day but Ana was available. Ana used her skills to transform my girlfriends tomboyish 12 year old daughter to a beautiful hip young girl with some coolness. Needless to say they were extremely happy. Their front desk person, Ana, is always helpful and attentive. She handles all the lobby traffic with calmness. Robin (esthetician) is wonderful. I never had my brows waxed before I met Robin. Now I visit her every other week for my brow wax. I also am a believer in the DNA Facial. I use to have issues with redness and dryness but after a couple of visits, it has controlled my issues. I also indulge in a massage from time to time which is wonderful. Robin is so patient and calm even though I have to be her most tense client that she has. I recently visited Ellie for a manicure and pedicure and she was so nice and made me feel relaxed. Overall, the staff is wonderful and I love to visit even when I don't have an appointment just to say hi to my peeps. I am now commuting from Orange County but I won't give up my salon for anything. read more

Never felt more inspired after getting some much needed grooming. I walked in without an appointment around 5 and was instantly greeted by the receptionist and was informed that the next available stylist would be about 45 minutes, which was totally fine with me. but to my total surprise within 15 minutes Ronnie was able to help me get things started. However shortly thereafter his 5 o'clock appointment showed up so he graciously offered me a free conditioning! So while my locks were being conditioned, Belinda did her magic and sculpted my eyebrows using her sugaring wax. The results are spectacular and i'm really impressed that there was no pain involved in the process. By the time Belinda was done, Ronnie was ready for me and styled my hair exactly how I wanted. Granted it's a simple hairstyle, but you'd be surprised how many times I've been disappointed. In any case, Ronnie was great to talk to, very down to earth and a true academic at heart. I read about Surrender on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I had being going to another salon in LB with so-so results and I wanted something new. I also wanted to try something in my new neighborhood. :) I called Surrender and they were able to get me in on Saturday! I have naturally curly hair and so I'm very hesitant to let new people cut it, it freaks me out. However, Eva made me comfortable from the moment I sat in her chair, she got it. She new how I wanted my hair highlighted before i told her. Now that's what I'm talking about. :) She even blew it out, even though it was the end of a long, hard day for her and I am so grateful! I haven't seen my hair curly yet, but I have had sooo many compliments on my hair already, I'm pretty sure I'll love it. I liked the salon so much that I'm planning to go back there to get my pedicures now too. I've have been making the drive to Irvine to get my hair done (I tried different salons in LB but none if them blew me away enough to leave my Irvine salon). One Sunday morning I drove all the way to Irvine and arrived 15 minutes late to my appointment. I was told that my hairstylist wouldn't be able to see me because I was late. It was then that I was determined to find a new salon in my 'hood. So went to Yelp to find a salon that was open on Sundays. Came across Surrender Salon.. Open on Sundays and good reviews. Called and the receptionist was really friendly. She even gave me directions on how to get there (Im still not completely familiar with LB ). I was scheduled with Denise. Denise is so sweet and totally understood what I was looking for. I have long hair and she took a lot of weight off but still able to keep the length. The products they use are natural and smell so fresh. Denise even took the time to show me how to create volume without teasing.I walked out a happy girl. For my second appointment, I was set with Marla (Denise was unavailable). Marla was just a sweet and nice as Denise. I wanted to try the new ombre trend but i was very nervous about coloring my very dark hair (I've had bad experience with my hair turning orange ) but Marla sounded very confident which made me feel at ease. I trusted her right away. The outcome was just as I pictured. It looks lovely! My hair has dimension now! Its a nice soft brown...not orange at all and it blends so naturally. Thank you Marla! This place is not the cheapest but it will not leave you broke either. Comparable if not cheaper to higher end salons. In my opinion the pricing is extremely fair. $60 for hair cut and $100 for color, of course prices vary by hair length and hair type (this is not unsual for salons). Again my hair is the darkest of brown and long, almost to my waist. Worth every penny. From what I saw, everyone walked out with a smile so Im sure all the stylists there are top notch. They also make sure you are comfortable thru your visit ( ie: offering you refreshments, coffee, and magazines). So happy I finally found 'my salon'! My hair is typically labeled extremely thick and long and super dry. Every hair stylist I've been to has cut it wrong and complained about how much hair I had for them to style and cut... I've been searching for another Infrared Sauna location near Long Beach, as the one I was going to closed without any notice. This place is a hidden gem. I must have passed it a thousand times while driving down Wardlow, and I don't don't know why I had not stopped until now. The salon is beautiful inside. Very "zen like" and positive messaging posted throughout. It's great. Now for the infrared sauna... the pricing is great, the sauna is huge, and the staff is very attentive before going in with providing cold water, essential oil cold towels, and other towels for use. Another 5 star from me. I found this place on Yelp and since I needed to find a new place to get my hair done after moving to Long Beach I decided to give it a try. My first impression: OMG the music they play from Pandora is nearly identical to my own Pandora station...awesome lounge/ambient beats. The location is mildly ghetto...it's close to the freeway so it's not too bad, but the streets definitely look shabby. I got a haircut and color appointment with Ana and wow, I can honestly say no one made my hair look this good before. So much better than overpriced and trendy Tony N Guy at the mall. Also a lot cheaper. Color looks great and the cut she gave me makes the styling of my curly hair a non issue. I have been driving to Corona to get my hair done for 2 years and finally decided I needed a new hair stylist closer to home. Did my research on Yelp and was a bit hesitant at first... I am so happy to that I decided to take the chance to try some where new. Just had my hair done today and I totally LOVE it! Hair stylist Chelsy did an awesome! This was my first experience with a spa so I have nothing to compare it to. Everyone was very nice, the environment was clean and their ethics seem to be in line with my own. I had a massage, facial and sauna treatment in the infrared sauna. I normally hate saunas (and hot tubs) but I really enjoyed the session. It gets hot but not the kind of imposing hot that makes one dizzy or sick. It felt good. Really good. So good I want to use it once a week! The prices seem reasonable, but as I say I don't have anything to compare it to. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to friends. read more
