Made a Reservation & came here for dinner last night. We were seated by the windows. They had a guitarist which added a nice touch. Food was delicious. The beet salad and duck tacos were to die for! Lechon was almost the same Lechon appetizer from one of our favorite restaurants, but even better. Nice casual but classy ambiance, I was pleasantly surprised. Service was okay. The Host was very sweet. The Tiramisu is amazing!! Prices are VERY reasonable. We'll be coming back, it was a wonderful night out!! read more

ive gone here twice for brunch on a sunday, one of those actually being this past sunday. i didn't remember much of my experience from the first time i went, so i was anticipating potentially getting kicked out (as my friends are not the classiest people around & we were there to drink mimosas lmfao). but everyone was superrr nice! they had a man playing the guitar, which made for a easy & wonderful atmosphere! food was delicious! not sure if this is only during sunday brunch, but it's a buffet & my favorite is the crepe station! our waiter (i wish i could remember his name) was great. super friendly, cracking jokes with us, & our mimosa glasses NEVER went empty. & even when we got too out of control, they were so respectful about how they told us to quiet down. amazing! according to my friends, this is our new brunch spot! deffff recommend! read more

Swooon. This place is perfection. I never would have known about it but I received a recommendation from a friend familiar with Modesto. The decor is great, restaurant is clean and the bar staff was friendly. We went for the buffet brunch and it was out of this world! The food was fresh and there was plenty to go around. They had tables and tables of platters to choose from and we tried just about all of it. Mimosas were great and the wait staff never let our glasses get less than half empty. Very impressed that a restaurant of this caliber is located in Modesto. Can't wait to go back for dinner. read more

Went on a Friday night with friends and everything was A+. Not sure how often this happens, but a classical guitar player was there and it created a great atmosphere. The steak was cooked to perfection and everyone had a great time. HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

I was here yesterday for a Valentine's Day celebration and I must say We were very disappointed. There was a five course meal, but the food was mediocre. For a price of $180 for 2+ tips it cost us over $200 for something that is below satisfactory, I feel I was robbed. I don't mind paying this much, as long as your food is superb or at least value for money, but it's not! I will never go back to this restaurant again it's overpriced. read more

My family loves John and his restaurant. We had many delicious meals there while living in Modesto and miss it so much. Had a good meal with excellent service. The Duck Bunz appetizer, a steamed bun filled with duck confit and a sweet Asian sauce was outstanding. My rib eye was perfectly cooked with a really wonderful Chimichurri sauce. My wife had the fish & chips - the fish was covered in a light tempura batter. Overall an excellent evening. read more

Finally got around to trying Surlas for dinner and was very pleased with our meal. The bread served was like a focaccia and was tasty and fresh. I split the spinach salad with a friend and had the Never Boring Salmon. I'm not usually a huge Salmon lover but the description sounded so good, and it was! An Asian flare with toasted tofu bites, spinach, and broccoli. yum. brownie for desert was also tasty. Glad to add Surlas to our list of downtown eateries. Came here for our birthday and enjoyed every minute of it! Our served Heather was so pleasant and made our experience that much better. We went again for Fathers day and not to our surprise, the buffet was awesome and the service was as awesome as the food. I went to surlas sunday brunch this last weekend and it was very nice! They have an awesome buffet full of many different choices. Everything had good flavor and presentation. The crepe staion was sweet! And the prime rib was cooked perfectly. Unlimited mimosas were dangerous but a good touch! They closed at 2 but we didnt leave till 5. They were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Definitely worth the twenty something bucks. The chef even greated us at out table. I'll be back for dinner and to hang out for sure :) read more

While taking a road trip, we stopped off at Surla's for brunch. I was pleasantly surprised at just how lovely the brunch was. There were tons of freshly made salads, fresh fruit, meat and cheese platters, lox and cream cheese, eggs, and an omelette station. There were several more items including desserts. Brunches usually turn me off because the food is overcooked and poorly presented. This was not the case at Surla's. The service and atmosphere were great. The final nice touch was the acoustic guitarist playing some great tunes in the background. A very lovely find in Modesto and great freeway access if you just happening to be passing through. read more

So happy I was recommended to try Surla! I never would have discovered this gem given the location. But a girlfriend suggested I try it and I'm so glad I did. Stopped in for the white party last night. Here instead of The Boardroom, mind you: the atmosphere was chill, the service was as expected, and the variety of music was great. The girl at the front was sweet as hell and the both DJ's were working it. The bartenders were attentive and made - okay drinks. That's the -1 star. Other than that it was a good time. read more

I went there on recommendation of a friend. We went for dinner with friends and had a great experience. I had a delicous cocktail, something with gin in it - oh my! My Greek salad was fresh and delicious, although as ever, I would have liked more feta. I snagged some of my husbands rigatoni with a creamy tomato sauce and it was simply divine. The Valhrona brownie was rich with a nice texture and I was almost sorry I shared it. The restaurant is clean and attractive. I would definitely go again. read more

Amazing Sunday champagne brunch! I think I might just go for their cervacha? (Don't know if I spelled that right). Our server was Sarah. She was on top of all of our drinks and answered our questions as it was our first time for the brunch. Great service! There was a nice selection of food anywhere from breakfast to dinner and dessert items. I think this might be one of Modesto's best kept secrets on Sunday or at least for us. I had guest from out of town so we decided to try Surlas for Sunday brunch. It was busy but not so busy that the service suffered. I'll the stations had plenty of food and it was all amazingly good.
