My first FIVE STAR rating on Yelp! As mentioned by numerous restaurant critics, customers should not ignore small strip mall restaurants for they do not exist for the ambiance, notoriety, or tourist draw. They serve good food at a reasonable cost. Surfside Pizza more than exceeds the former and meets the latter. As I bit into the my "Surfside" I noticed the excellent taste and quality of the crust, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms and very fresh vegetables that were not overcooked. I've been told and read that pizza crust making, especially considering the susceptibility of the yeast to ambient temperature and humidity and its effect on crust. It seems Surfside excels. I normally prefer a pesto base because I avoid tomato based sauces, but here at Surfside they in making a balanced delicious pizza that does not overwhelm with a too strong a tomato taste. I thoroughly enjoyed the slice and you will too. I only regret I don't live near enough to patronize the restaurant routinely. read more

We were staying at a nearby timeshare and Surfside happens to deliver to the timeshare, so we ordered a pizza and wings. The pizza was one of their specialty pizza with meat and veggies. It was very okay. Nothing great about it, nothing terrible about it. Kinda skimped on the toppings though. The wings we ordered were very good. We ordered the sauce on the side (mild buffalo) and the sauce was what you would expect from mild buffalo. I would have like more options on the wing sauce (they have buffalo, teriyaki, and BBQ). I prefer garlic parmesan or lemon pepper, but that's just personal preference. The delivery time was within the window they quoted us. The price for wings, an extra large pizza (only 10 slices-not all that extra large), delivery and a tip, was $47. read more

Tonight we placed an order for an xl pepperoni @ 6:16 and it was delivered cold at 6:28, it takes about 3-5 minutes to drive to deliver it to my house. The math doesn't add up. The manager questioned me several times saying it was unusual...and said he did it himself. Needless to say we won't be ordering from Surfside again. Took a shot and ordered an extra thin crust Margherita pizza with jalapenos from Surfside Pizza in San Clemente. An extra thin crust pizza should keep its shape, not go limp like it does in the photo. They neglected to add the jalapenos. Haven't tried the salads cuz the wife was too disappointed with the Margherita pizza, so we went out to dinner. She's Italian from NYC and expects a four topping pizza to have 4 toppings. First and last order from Surfside...they have no quality control and zero oversight. Pizza margherita, as the Italians call it, is a simple pizza hailing from Naples. When done right, margherita pizza features a bubbly crust, crushed San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil, a drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of salt. That is all. It's like the simplest pizza on the planet. If Surfside can't manage this one...I doubt all the others. If you know pizza, this is not your pizzeria. read more

We got the Rockin Ricotta Pizza (Size M, $17.95) and Pete's Special Pizza (Size M, $17.95)+house salad (Size L, $8.50). The Rockin Ricotta Pizza had good ratio of artichoke and ricotta/mozzarella/romano cheese. Wish it had more garlic flavor and spinach. I didn't try to Pete's Special Pizza since I was full from one slice, but my coworkers said it was a standard meat pizza, little on greasier side. The house salad came with a side of italian dressing, standard with feta cheese, olive, tomato, lettuce, and bell peppers. Personally I thought the pizza had a too thicc crust, but it was well baked and had overall good flavor. What I disliked here most was the service. I was quoted 45 minutes for my deep dish pizza when I called in my order, not an issue, deep dish always takes that long. I showed up 45 minutes later and was told another 10 minutes, again not an issue, I'd like my pizza to be cooked properly. I gave them 20 minutes and when I returned I was told another few minutes. After 10 I asked how much longer and was told maybe another 10 minutes or so? By this time it's been an hour and a half and they were completely unapologetic about it. Almost two hours later I had my pizza and it was the worst example of a deep dish I have ever seen! No thick crust to hold up the sauce, thin crust simply shaped as a deep dish. Not the right consistency, the sauce not chunky as deep dish should be, just a generic marinara. Under that, a super fake tasting cheese, it was just plain sad and delicious e wound up tossing it. This is a friendly little pizza shop with lots of great toppings of as well as deep dish pizza (call ahead so you don't have to wait). It feels very mom and pop and its nice to support local businesses that have great products! There is a patio with outdoor seating with rather limited seating inside. While there, they were setting up for a large group outside, so it might be a good place for pizza after sport practice for kids, etc. It's also by the DMV, so if you're waiting in line, you can place an order while you get business done then treat yourself when you're done! read more

Let me preface this by saying the first time they did figure out we paid, and the second time they did find our house finally, and this last time they did bring a corrected pizza after about an hour 15minutes. That being said we will likely never be going back here as their service and quality is never the same. It can be one way today and completely different tomorrow, and unfortunately leans towards issues every time. We had come here with the old owners then had stopped when quality went down, then we came here with the new owners and it was great but service issues caused us to stop ordering for a while. Just recently we tried it again. They have an online ordering service called slice. We did this about a month or two ago and paid through the slice service. When the pizza arrived they tried to make us pay again, and it took a big argument even with an email proving the order was completed, since slice doesn't send a receipt clearly stating paid, to convince them we had in fact paid already. We tried again after a few weeks but this time we called because of issues with the slice online ordering and didn't want to have to prove we paid again. This time we called it in and after about an hour we called since they said 45 min originally for delivery, they told us it was on the way. Then another 30 min went by and we called them back and they said they guy was on the way. Then after another 10-15 min the delivery guy called and asked for a different person. He said he couldn't find our house. Finally after another 15-20 min my wife just met him out on the road to get the pizza. Our address is clearly marked and easily found by any gps program, and we had had delivery from here many times before. They clearly wrote the address and name down wrong and we got cold pizza for it with no discount, refund, or even real apology, just excuses. We hadn't gone back after this until yesterday, We again tried slice, This time there was no issue with payment. However we ordered a meats pizza add rib tips, which for a 20" runs about $11 more than just a 1 topping. When the pizza arrived it only had rib tips and nothing else, and to top it off most of the rib tips had large inedible cartilage they didn't cut around. (See pics) I called to complain and they said they could do nothing and i had to call the owners cell phone and he would handle it. I called the number they gave me and it went straight to voicemail without any greeting. I called the store back and they said they could give me a discount next time we ordered. After much complaining, they did finally offer to remake and redeliver, but only after the delivery driver can back and took the call, but it would be an hour and a half or more. We had guests leaving after a bit and had were not able to pick up, so we had to go with the replacement. All this was after much explanation that everyone there is new and doesn't know what to do and there are no managers working. After about an hour 15 min we did get the correct pizza minus the extra $4.50 rib tip topping we had originally wanted because we were afraid of more bones/cartilage in them. So we still ended up being sol for $4.50 on this order. Which is almost enough to buy a whole medium pizza at pizza hut. Never heard back from owner, no surprise there. Too bad, because their pizza is actually good but too many issues to bother with them again, not when there are plenty of other choices. read more

The pizza was ordered around 5 and we were told it would be ready in about a 1/2 hr. My boyfriend went to pick it up and it was not ready until around 6:20. There excuse was they were so busy. I realize everyone is still struggling because of staffing shortages, but if that was the case, why didn't they tell us that at the time we ordered the food. Very disappointed. I ordered a Chicago style deep dish pizza when I received it, I was shocked the sauce was on the outside...something I have never seen in my life. So I immediately called the restaurant and asked for a Manager. When I spoke with Edwin he actually was very helpful and very patient and was very kind to explain, that this was the style of the pizza.
