WORST PIZZA EVER WITH MATCHING SERVICE Surfside Pizza has been a local favorite for decades, charming diners with its excellent pizza and service. Many visitors to the local DMV made a habit of stopping by. It was a beloved local landmark. NO MORE! I had stopped by about six months earlier and noticed a sign that stated it was closed due to an issue with the ovens. I stopped by yesterday and found it open. No one was manning the counter, and the man in the back offered no help. After a five-ten minute wait, and frequent gesturing to the man-in-the-back I finally caught his attention. He could not understand a word of English, but "pointed" to the rear of the building. Eventually a woman appeared. I just wanted a slice of pizza. There were no posted prices for this. I wound up ordering two slices of pizza and a coke. The price was a hefty $11.00. I thought this a bit high but remembered the "old" price was around $5. When the woman brought the pizza out I immediately noticed the "slices" were about three inches wide. (Think a Costco slice cut in half.) The crust is thin and tasteless, and the pieces had obviously been sitting in the display case all day. The worst pizza I've ever had. Avoid this place as you would the plague. NB: the Coke was okay tho. read more

Surf Rider Pizza in La Mesa is a solid spot when you're craving a good slice. The food is definitely the highlight. the crust has that perfect thin, crispy bite and the toppings taste fresh and flavorful. You can tell they put care into the ingredients, and the pizza comes out hot and satisfying every time. Service was friendly and helpful, even when things got a little busy. The staff kept things moving and made sure customers were taken care of. Ordered 5 pizzas for delivery for $154.94 Waited for delivery for 30 minutes and got a text that my order was cancelled. No explanation. Tried calling and no answer then got another text saying that the driver will be there in 10 minutes and then another text saying it will be delayed. Never showed up and never got any pizza. Today I discovered that the charge for the $154.94. Still can't get in touch with anyone. Now I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Bad company!!!! read more

Was in town for a baseball tournament and found this place a few minutes from the park. Food was good, but the place is under new ownership and they no longer have Chicago style pizza. Another downer is no beer there, but there's a liquor store a couple doors down and they let you drink beer outside but not inside the restaurant. The service was great and would definitely go back if in the area again. read more

I was very happy to learn my neighborhood pizza shop had reopened. However, it's new management. I completely enjoyed the old management...but I will adapt and accept the new. The new pizza sauce and toppings are great! I always get food to go, so I cannot comment too much on the restaurant's ambiance. Did my gender reveal here this afternoon! I went to this spot because we wanted a pizza place close to the beach. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm also happy that when we came it wasn't very busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The cashier was so so sweet and went the extra mile of cutting up our jalapeños to spell the gender out on our pizza. She even taped the box for us since we told her we didn't want to find out until after we left. So I had a customer appreciation coupon thing that they pushed around the neighborhood. I went there the first day I had it and the young man behind the counter cut out the coupon. The coupon is good for 10 free pizzas or something. I just went there again and the guy behind the counter said the coupons are missing. I told him the guy before him removed them. He said basically nothing he can do. I argued with him but he said nothing he can do. I was disgusted with his lack of understanding and I threw the coupon book at him. As I left he said " learn how to be a man" . I went back in and said I'm here .. I'm a man , now what. He looked surprised and scared so I left. Now I get a call from an unlisted number from a guy claiming got be a San Clemente Deputy telling me a I am not to go in the establishment anymore. Believe me , not going to be an issue. The guy at the shop said I hit him in the face with the coupons ... not true but at this point no worries. His big mistake was saying learn how to be a man and expect not to get a reaction. Good luck in the future pizza guys ... Too bad I can't give negative stars read more

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. The new ownership has hiked up the price of a MEDIUM size pizza to $29? I will never be coming back and wasting money here. I do not think I've ever heard of this for a hole in the wall, to go establishment. Most highly regarded, Italian restaurants don't even serve this size of pie at that price... look at Parlor, Buena Forchetta... We have ordered before from Surfside before new ownership and were happy. Loved the salad. Loved the pizza. Loved the garlic knots. WITH THE OLD OWNER. This time around, unfortunately, the pizza was more similar to a school cafeteria slice. Chewy cheese. Cracker thin crust with zero flavor. Little to no sauce. I'm sorry, new ownership hiked up prices by like 30% with nothing to show for it. You're doing business wrong. You have to make a product people are willing to pay these prices for... it has to be AMAZING to pay $30 for a medium pizza! With very few , if not zero, good to go pizza spots in the area, there is a market you're able to tap into here and you're doing it wrong. I'm only giving two stars and not one because of your staff. They're amazing, nice, and good people. read more

My family and I go here every time we are in the area. The owner goes way above and beyond to keep customers happy. One time they were out of a certain dessert my kids liked and he told us to come back in a few days and he'd have it. Turns out he went to the store to buy it for them and gave it to them the next time we were there. We're team surfside for life!!! read more

Old surfside was an incredible local spot. New surfside is a joke. $30 for a medium 14 inch half cheese half pepperoni is pacific coast highway robbery. The pizza itself isnt good; the cheese feels like melted plastic, the bland dough/crust tastes like cardboard. If you want pizza and are considering surfside, do yourself a favor and drive up the road to pizza doho or truly and pay the same price for a pizza that is leaps and bounds better or drive down the road to dominos for pizza that is literally half the price and still better. Having never tried SurfSide Pizza, we placed an order yesterday, and what a disappointment! Since we don't love deep-dish crust, we asked for standard crust, but what we got was a thin cracker crust - which was not satisfying at all. Second, there was only the barest trace of pizza sauce on our Medium 3-topping pizza - which made it taste like eating a bare-bones flatbread, and though the chicken, mushrooms & olives were present, they certainly were not plentiful. I don't know if SurfSide was having an "off night" but it was distressing to be charged $30 for a little dough, barely any sauce, and some meager toppings. I wish SurfSide could convince us they are capable of doing better! read more

Tried this place on a neighbor's suggestion. Pizza had almost zero sauce on it. Both of us noticed this without telling the other. Went to the counter to ask for some sauce on the side (to dip our cheesy dough into) and was told the sauce gets heated when the pizza is cooked so no sauce on the side for us...WTF ? Overpriced , no sauce and no attempt to correct...all this for the low low price of $30 (medium 2 topping). Other negative reviews indicate the same issues... read more

We had a flyer thru our timeshare so we went ahead and ordered a pizza delivered thought the website. We ordered a medium Pete's special pizza, 2 cannolis and 2 cinnamon sticks. With the 20% discount from the resort the bill should have been under $36 including tip + tax and delivery. I was charged just under $60.00 After 40+ minutes my husband met the delivery guy outside and brought in our order. What we got was a 1/2 pep, 1/2 sausage turd pizza and 6 cannolis. Maybe if the pizza was hot it would have tasted better but I was very disappointed. The cannolis were pretty good but we didn't need 6. I wish somebody would have called us and told us they were out of everything we tried to order read more

Surfside Pizza has re-opened!!! It is even better than before. The new owner really cares about the details and making sure that the customer is 100% satisfied with the experience. You will feel as though you are in his home for a pizza. I enjoyed the meat lovers pizza which had the perfect crust and toppings. Though i took it home with me, the pizza was still nice and hot. I understand from the owner that the pizza sauce is his Italian moms' "secret sauce". The sauce was rich with just the perfect amount of garlic. And, Surfside Pizza is home of the world famous Pietro's Favorite Lemon Ice; just in time for summer. You will be blown away by the strawberry or lemon ice frozen treat. Refreshing, tangy and not too sweet strikes the perfect balance. (a little more tart than sweet which I love). Simple yet tasty ingredients all around for a perfect pizza dinner and refreshing frozen treat. So glad Surfside is back! read more

Have to deduct half a star for a few things - 1) we had to remind our server about the salad, and by the time it arrived we were halfway through the pizza; 2) no soap left in the restroom, which is especially needed after eating a very oily pizza!; 3) server brought leftovers in a box that was soaked on the bottom and literally dripping water - assuming she had it resting on a puddle and totally fine if it's an accident, but she seemed a little irritated when we asked for a new box: 4) payment is done via a tableside machine and they don't show you the itemized bill to check if everything is correct - the total sounded about right so I let it go, but I prefer at least a glance before handing over my card. All minor things, and I think they may have been short-staffed as it was pretty busy for a Tuesday lunch. Would still come back to try more of their pizzas!

The free garlic bread was also very good, nothing groundbreaking but we enjoyed it. Shockingly, the fettuccine Alfredo was the dish that changed my life. This was SO good, the kind you start eating and immediately wish you could take the full portion home with you. Rich, creamy, garlicky, with lots of chicken this was the star of the show. The spicy sausage ragu special was also delicious with a broiled Parmesan crust that rly pulled it together. The pizza was good but in my opinion the pasta is definitely the way to go here. The only less than awesome thing here was the house red wine - it just tasted off? I was not a fan. Next time we will try a bottle of something but it was almost undrinkable.

I've waited a while before posting this review because I wanted to be fair and separate the emotions surrounding our visit from the actual experience. The first day we stopped in, the drink machine was being replaced and the restaurant wasn't open. That was completely understandable. What was disappointing was the attitude we received from the young staff when we simply asked when they expected to reopen. We got the typical "I don't know" response, and when we tried asking a couple of follow-up questions for clarification, they seemed annoyed and really weren't interested in helping. We aren't from the area and had specifically made the trip over because of what this place meant to my mom. We figured the first experience was just an off moment, so we came back the next day when they were open. Unfortunately, the same general attitude from the young staff carried over and really took away from the experience. The food itself wasn't the problem--it was the lack of friendliness, hospitality, and basic customer service. Of course, they had no way of knowing why we were there, and we certainly didn't expect or feel the need to explain that we had just buried our mom. But that's also the point: you never really know why someone has walked through your door or what that visit might mean to them. I wish our experience had been different, especially because Cosentino's held such good memories for our family and for my mom. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to those memories. I'm usually the type to leave my crust behind, but this one was too good not to finish. One thing to keep in mind is that they can run out of square pizzas later in the evening, but they can still make the same flavors on their round crust. I'd definitely come back for a date night or girls' dinner!

One of my favorite appetizers here are their bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers served with a blackberry jam and pickled onions...I get this pretty much every time. Lately I've been coming on Tuesdays to take advantage of their all-day Happy Hour, which is one of the best in town. Crispy carnitas tacos and the hibiscus margaritas are my go-to's, and the fresh chips and salsa served gratis are always delicious and hot. I wanted to take a moment to shout out their fantastic team of servers and bussers especially. Luna, Lindsay and Cesar have all been exceptional servers; their knowledge of the menu and their genuine kindness makes our visits that much more memorable. I don't often catch the name of the bussers, but they are extremely good at what they do. There's a few restaurants in town that hire staff and don't seem to train them well, so they struggle and it's apparent... but that's not the case here at Asada, where everyone is professional and really go above and beyond. It's easy to see how well their service flows (although the host stand could benefit from having people who are more outgoing; they seem to have timid people up there a lot, and it can be awkward when they're too timid to properly greet guests--just something I've noticed, having worked in restaurants before I tend to be hyper-aware of such things). My favorite section to get seated is the booths near the back which tend to be quieter, and also offer a nice view of the sky during the sunset and evening hours especially.

Had reservations at 8 PM and our seats were on the second floor where we had a view of the wonderful sunset. We were seated in a both that fits 6, but it was better because the food was spaced out nicely on the table for easy access. My wife tried the Lady Luck cocktail which has vodka and others very a very tasty drink. We ordered the party house dinner rolls that that were ok. We also got the Lobster Crab Mac n Cheese. OMG this was so good. The melt cheese, the chunks of crab and chunks lobster made this an exquisite item to eat. We could not stop talking about how good it was. It also had cheese crated over the top as well. Lastly we got the Executive platter which is a collection of steak that the chef chooses. Our platter had filet mignon, 40 day dry aged New York Strip, and a 35 day dry aged Ribeye. All three were fantastic. We could not stop gushing over the ribeye and how well it was prepared and tasted. The steaks were all seasoned to perfection and did not require anything added to them . They also serve them with 3 sauces, but they are not needed at all. They also brought us small dessert for our birthday which was scoops of ice cream, but we were so full that we could not eat all of them. I ended up getting the Caesar salad, which comes with lemon, fried anchovy, and a ton of pecorino, and they were not kidding about the pecorino. It was literally like a blanket over the whole thing. But this Caesar was probably one of the best I've ever had. It was so good I literally didn't share it with anybody, I was like nope, I'm eating this whole thing by myself. The flavor, the pepper, the anchovies, the lemon, everything was so perfectly balanced. Even the waitress was super sweet and told me if I needed a salad, as basic as it sounds, the Caesar is the go to. She was absolutely right, phenomenal salad. We also got the beef marrow tartare dip thing that came with potato chips. It was good, nothing too crazy to say about it honestly. The Parker House rolls though, those we got as a side and they came out buttery, juicy, and just really good. The truffle came right through, these were phenomenal and absolutely a must have to go along with that Caesar. Then there's the bacon, which sounds crazy, it's literally just called bacon and it's this fat thick four inch slab, one single piece, and it was so so so good. I was absolutely shocked by it. For my main I went with the forty day dry aged bone in New York strip. It was pretty dang good, wouldn't say I was completely blown away, but I have a hard time with steak places in general because I always compare them to how I make a steak at home, and I still think I can make a better one myself. That said, this was very good, great crunch and crisp on the edge, those nice burnt increased edges, seasoned perfectly, and a spot on medium rare, so no complaints there. For sixty bucks though I just have a hard time paying for it, even if it was very good. The one that stole the whole night, hands down and by far, was the dessert. I don't remember what it was called but it was like this pancake ice cream, buttery, gooey, delicious, light and airy heaven. I literally apologized at the table and said I'm going to eat this entire thing, and I did just that. It was awesome. The ambiance and decoration of this place is straight up fine dining, you can feel and see it, and they even have actual dry aged beef ribs on display which is really cool. Not bad at all. I'd recommend it as a high end spot, just not somewhere I'd go consistently since I can do better at home. But that dessert dish, whatever the heck it was, I would go back for that alone. Best dish of the night for sure.

This is one of the worst places I've gone to! So I called in to order and they guy taking my order made me repeat everything I said several times and I only ordered 3 items then they said it was going to be a 20-30 minute wait when I went in to get my pizza I wasn't helped for 5 minutes then they made me wait another 20 minutes cause they forgot an item of my order then when I get home the pizza was cold and the cheese wasn't melted! They forgot another item I ordered, so I only got 2 of the things I ordered. They didn't give me what I ordered , they wasted my time and money. This is on the top of the worst pizza places ever! Don not eat here! The pizza wasn't cooked and they messed up my order and are not time efficient! read more

I had the pleasure of trying a pizza recently, and I must say, it was a delight. The cheese was wonderfully gooey, and the crust had a perfect balance of crispiness and chewiness. I was thoroughly impressed. However, I do have one small critique. The sauce, unfortunately, was a bit too light for my liking. It lacked the boldness and tanginess that I typically look for in a pizza sauce. Despite this, I would still rate the overall experience an 8 out of 10. Surfside Pizza is literally the best pizza in Orange County hands down. And let me tell ya, their customer service is next level. Ken, the owner, is always hanging around, making sure everyone's happy. And he's all about supporting the locals & the community. I've been to quite a few pizza places and this pie is awesome pizza: My go to favorite sausage and pepperoni, plenty of mozzarella cheese and the pizza sauce was great. I asked and they said they make sauce themselves. My girlfriend tried their gluten free cauliflower crust with vegan cheese and she loved it. I have to admit they have splendid friendly customer service too boot. It makes for a great experience to enjoy your food even more. read more

Pizza there is outstanding and affordable. The crust/sauce is homemade and amazing. Great location near the beach just off PCH/bike trail in San Clemente. it is 1/4 mi off PCH so it a bit hidden in a strip mall but worth the detour. read more

It has heavy competition in this area and with this kind of product I suspect it'll be gone within a year. I'll never order from here again.

As for the pizza itself, I always feel food is subjective, but this one just didn't do it for us. The crust lacked the crisp, caramelized edges that make a great Detroit-style pizza stand out, and the center of the pie was noticeably undercooked. Overall, the flavor was fairly bland and never really came together the way we had hoped. Considering all the positive reviews and the anticipation leading up to our visit, we left feeling underwhelmed. With so many outstanding pizza spots in the area, it's hard to justify giving this one another try. Hopefully our experience was simply an off day, but based on this visit, we'll be exploring other Detroit style options next time.

There were maybe two or three other tiny shrimps. They charge $20 per small/personal pizza. I think they could add a few more shrimps. My wife got the Adobo. She loved it. I liked it. We took three pizzas home, The Pig, Root, and Black Garlic. Because the pizzas are thick, they keep and warm up very well. Maybe even better than fresh if you do it right and in the oven. The pig was good. Again, not enough meat. Root was okay and lacked depth and any noticeable mushroom flavor. Black garlic was amazing. Even though they call it a cheese bread and it's in the sides section, it's the same size as the pizza and really feels like a pizza.

Being friendly, we said "sure, no problem!". Shortly after, Marc came over and asked if our chairs had been taken and we let them know that the group next to us asked for them. In response, with deep condescension he responded "No, that isn't okay we have a lot of people waiting", which we understood but we also don't work there and aren't going to be rude to fellow patrons. He then told the group next to us he needed the chairs back only to not actually use said chairs for seated guests. It left all of us very confused for the unnecessary interaction. About 15 minutes later, my husband was looking for our server to order another drink and close out, when Marc came up and told us he needed the table. Mind you, we took time out of our evening to get there early for the game (as did everyone else that evening) and there was no signage nor a heads up from the team onsite that there was a limit on the tables, especially as we weren't the only people there for the very same reason. We had been there about 1.5 hours at that point and there was only a little bit left in the game. The group next to us who had also been there the entire time, and got sat before we did, weren't told they needed to get up, but we were given the third degree for our two spots. When my husband asked if he could get that next drink, Marc responded "I don't take orders" and walked away. Our server then proceeded to not check on us for an additional 20 minutes (we were trying to close out as requested), which ironically made it so we took up their table for the remainder of the game. He also mentioned that he ran into a similar issue with guests the previous week for the game, which sounds to me like an opportunity for better problem-solving skills and coaching amongst the team, not a customer-issue. All of this, only for there to be NO wait when we left AND open tables. Being that my husband and I are both in hospitality management, we were extremely frustrated by the lack of respect and embarrassing customer service by none other than Marc Sullivan, a co-owner of Homeslice. I think it's a bare minimum ask that the management and ownership, have the same decency and respect for paying customers that they expect of the rest of their service staff. By the time we got to our car it was 7pm and hadn't even been two full hours, all for our table to not even be needed. Totally understand it being a busy night but highly recommend that the team game plan better rather than making it the customers' responsibility to highlight where this situation could have been improved. Really bummed to have this experience as we're DP locals and love coming to eat/drink here!
