If you're dining here to expect some incredible high-end Mexican cuisine, then you've come to the wrong place. However, Surf Taco, no matter which location you visit, (and I have been to nearly all of them except the one in Toms River), is a dependable place for a quick bite. Their tacos are good and satisfying and it's pretty much no frills dining. You place your order at the cashier and they give you a little number thingy that you put on your table. Usually in a short time thereafter, someone will bring your food to you. I enjoy their garlic shrimp tacos and sometimes I'll get the taco salad with their fajita style steak. Like I said, it's not anything gourmet, but the prices are decent and waitstaff is always nice and friendly. Due to their locations mainly near the beaches, summertime tends to get a bit crowded. So just keep in mind the time of day you're visiting, or you could have a line out the door. I will continue to frequent all of their locations. :) read more

This place seemed to better in the past, but most things ars still quite delicious. We stopped in for a few ala carte Tacos. I think the Salmon Taco and a Carne Asada Taco were my favorites, the others were average..... Gotta say, I ordered a bowl of Black Bean Soup and it was quite horrible. Don't they know you only blend half the beans, not all of them. And, some spice would help. It's really just brown water... read more

I definitely enjoy the vibe and the food @ surf taco. My standard are the shrimp soft tacos, the mrs/boss always gets the chicken taco salad. Prices aren't too bad and we always enjoy going there read more

Super long wait but I have to say it was worth it. I got the #2 combo with surf taco (Baja style) and carne asada taco. They were both so delicious. The rice and beans were a little too bland for my taste but the salsas from salsa bar def helped. Def get a combo at surf taco! It's a better deal :) read more

I used to go there a lot like once a month or a decade, coming around from my home 10 min away, and it was one of my favorite places to go for a quick Mexican goodies and easier to order by al carte style if desires. In the winter or cooler times, I like to order the spicy black bean soup for good nutritional value and fiber, along with one taco, usually garlic or mango shrimp.. Easier to control the calories and look for value at the same time, under 500-600 calories and ten bucks for two items lunch.. I went there today for the black bean soup and a mini quesadilla with a bit of steak.. The young guy counter/cashier were pleasant, and took my order. When my order arrived at my table while I was away to salsa bar ... As I seated and I tasted my soup and it was lukewarm.. I do prefer my soup piping hot, of course, who doesn't.. I got up and returned the bowl but that guy weren't there but the manager (I presumed ) there. I explained the soup is too cold as I prefer it hotter.. The manager took out the industrial temp into the soup and said it's normal at 150 degree.. I never seen anything like the gesture of his in anyone or anyplace else.. he wasn't nice or courteous with my deafness from birth.. he spoken loud and in angry looking facial expression.. I insisted it is not to my liking and wanted it just reheat, for Christ sake.. he angrily shout back I do not comprehend what has he said... There were some customers sitting and eating and looked disgusted at this manager.. It was so unbelievable sight and disgusting of him... wow... Bye bye, Surf Taco.... read more

Stopped here after a day at the beach. Very beachy feel when you walk in. Order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. Lots of taco and burritos options. We opted for the taco special- shrimp mango. The shrimp was battered In a coconut lime seasoning served with shredded cabbage and fresh mango, all wrapped in your preferences of tortilla served on the side of all tacos are crispy tortilla chips. You can top your taco with any of their 4 famous salsa from their salsa bar. We also tried the garlic shrimp taco-very flavorful! The tacos come one per order so you may want to order a few different kinds. The aloha wrap was the best! We enjoyed everything we ordered. read more

Boo.... this place is like a high school cafeteria with Mexican food. The service sucks, went in waited for 10 mins line didn't move and i left. I REALLY TRIED to give this place a chance... but they blew it after two friends got extremely sick after eating food there. This place is trendy HIGHSCHOOL restaraunt and their business ethic is not the greatest. Go to Fins in Bradley Beach on main street... AWESOME... or simply walk out make a left and across the street is 10th Ave. Burrito which is a local legend they're awesome too! Sorry but surf taco doesn't fill me up. read more

This place is great !!! We had just come from the shore and stopped in for a bite the tacos were great !! Surf Taco - Wraps Near Me - Belmar, New Jersey

This summer I thought I'd give this place another try but I have deducted that Surf Taco is STILL outrageously disgusting. The unbelievably low quality of their ingredients seriously shines through in almost every dish and I don't appreciate the near-toxic levels of MSG being dumped into the food. I know it's in there because my body reacts to MSG like it's poison. Thanks for poisoning me (in more way than one) Surf Taco. This food is NOT fresh. This food is NOT Mexican. This food is NOT flavorful. This food is NOT quality. What it is IS fast food. A notch above Taco Bell, and that's all I'll give it. Teenagers and surfers love it here because it's cheap and they're high. No thanks, bro, I will not be dining on this garbage with you. Ever. read more

To say that Surf Taco's interpretation of Mexico is absolute garbage would be a bit of an overstatement. That being said, I would suggest one make the trip to 10th Ave. Burrito for a VASTLY superior experience in every way. Additionally, each and every item and ingredient on the Chipotle menu absolutely trounces that of Surf Taco. And if I was desperate and really craving mexican food, I would dine at Taco Bell before Surf Taco. That may sound like an extremist position or rant, but given the blandness of flavor the permeates most of Surf Taco's dishes, it makes my choice realistic. read more

This was recommended for a quick meal before heading to the beach--and that is all it was. The food itself was rather plain- relying solely on salsas for flavor. I was also unhappy with the service. I asked for no cilantro, and sure enough my taco came with cilantro. Also, they do not give glasses of tap water, so be prepared to purchase a bottle or bring your own. The one plus was that the food itself was quick and cheap. read more

Oh, Surf Taco. If I could just TELL you the things you have done to my colon... Not good. But, I do like your number 1 combo. Delicious, as bowel destructive as you are, Mr. Number One. read more

Not too sure what the hype is about. Maybe I've been spoiled when I went to Key West in May and had some amazing fresh fish tacos, but these were pretty bland compared to what I've experienced. It was super packed, and I was anticipating out of this world seafood...well definitely not the case. I had the surf taco baja style and mahi taco, also the buffalo calamari (which was good) and my boyfriend had the chicken bowl. For all the hype, it really wasn't worth it at all...next time I'll grab a slice of pizza and head back home. *I will say that the service was extremely attentive, and it was a zoo in there but they still managed to check on our table a few times* read more

The food was just ok for the price, but pretty bland overall and small portions. I bought the baja bowl with mahi, guacamole and a bottled water, which came to about $15. I really don't get the mushrooms in this dish. Wth? If it were just the food that was the issue here I probably would not have bothered to write a review, but this place has a serious problem with cleanliness and staff. The staff members were unfriendly, no one smiled, no one looked happy, and no one seemed to care if the customers were there or not. It felt like we were inconveniencing them. The guy at the register did not greet patrons properly and had limited knowledge of the menu. He did not speak clearly or make eye contact and just seemed miserable. I'm not asking to be serenaded when I walk in, but you should put someone with a personality behind the register or at the very least, someone who is knowledgeable about the product! Then I saw a guy with a man bun cleaning the tables like he couldn't give less of a crap. When he wiped the tables he pushed all of the crumbs etc on to the floor rather than collecting them for disposal. He also wiped crap off of the garbage can with the same rag he was using to 'clean' tables. Completely unsanitary. When he was done wiping, he slammed the chairs into the tables like they were worthless. Uh, loser! Lastly we visited the bathroom and this topped off the surf taco experience for us. The bathroom was filthy and the smell was wafting out into the restaurant. This is unacceptable. Too bad about this place. You'd think running a clean and quality taco joint would be simple. Guess not. Pass on this one. Yikes. read more

Delicious, quick, easy, fresh! I appreciate good Mexican - Chipoltle, Baha Fresh, Taco Bell even, etc. But Surf Taco is the closest to sit-down fresh Mexican Cuisine that you can come to in a fast food setting- AND it's a Jersey Shore original. What is better than that? Suggestions - chicken tacos... actually anything with chicken. Vegetarian Nachos.... everything. Wonderful salsa bar. BYOB. Great portions. Great food. Great price. read more

This place is good, but it certainly does not warrant a line out the door - which speaks to the list of options in the area. Waiting in the line was miserable, the heat was blistering, but I can't put that on Surf Taco. The line moved.....slowly, but it was just nice to get indoors. The menu is large, and there are plenty of choices. They have some creative choices, like the buffalo calamari. In the end, I ordered a #4 combo, which included a Maverick's burrito, one surf taco, some chips and a soda. I thought it was a good deal. I started with the surf taco, it was decent. The fish was somewhat flavorless, but it went down quickly nonetheless. Next came the burrito, it was quite large and very heavy. After a few bites, I realized why I never order burritos, each ingredient gets sectioned into it's own little area within the burrito. I like all my ingredients mixed. One bite, all beans, another bite, all rice, one more bite, all chicken. This isn't Surf Taco's fault, but rather a fault with the burrito as a medium for combining ingredients. The ingredients themselves were good, nothing special. After a long day on the beach, I was just happy to have some food and a cold water with ice. The buffalo calamari was interesting. I like the concept, but in actual execution, it's just bleh. It's buffalo flavored calamari, enough said. Surf Taco serves its purpose as a quick (pending the line), easy, and good place to eat along the beach. read more

Zero stars. Tables = sticky Music = too loud Mahi taco = blackened sawdust Coconut shrimp taco = burnt Mounds bar Normally I'm more eloquent and thoughtful in my reviews, but I'm not wasting my time with this one. read more

I cannot rave about this place enough to do it justice. They start you off with delish chips and you can get differing heat levels of salsa to dip them in. The atmosphere is light and festive. The buffalo calamari is hands down the best calamari I have ever had. I crave it all the time!! The buffalo soldier is good too an fat burrito stuffed with buffalo chicken rice beans lettuce tomatoes and sauce. The TSUNAMI is can I say hideously large? A friend and I split one one and we could barely finish the monster. It was so delicious!! The food quality here is phenomenal and the prices are low! Every time we go to the shore we make it a point to stop here for dinner on the way back, in fact some of us look forward to it more than we do the beach! If your in the area GO AND TRY IT. If you don't then you haven't lived. read more

I don't think its so great, my friend was raving how great the food was. I should have known better, he thinks taco bell is good too... Well I am used to the real deal and have been spoiled by that but I keep a open mind. My burrito wasn't that good, flavor was bland. I think chipolte carnitas is 100times better. I think its more of the allure of their giant burritos in areas that chipolte hasn't set foot yet. I think once chipolte is close by, these people will have a serious run for their money. Also service absolutely sucks there.. Tables were dirty, self serve salsa was a complete mess.. Wasn't cleaned in a while b/c there was a lot of dried sauce around the area. read more

3.1 - so hokey, but good prices and fresh tasting stuff. Standard, very americanized mexican. It gets the job done, for a good price, and leaves everyone happy. Great place to go with a cooler of beers to chow down. Or take your middle school girlfriend. Get tacos or quesadillas. Very weak burritos. Hit up the salsa bar. read more

My friends and I were specific about our orders and they disregarded our instructions. Personally, I specifically asked for a beef taco, just beef and the shell, and they couldn't even get that right. read more

I never had an unsatisfactory experience at Surf Taco. Well, that's until this evening. We ordered the 2 taco combo with rice and beans and the 2 beef taco combo. The food was bland. The black beans were disgusting. It tasted like someone cracked open a can of beans and dumped on my plate. The rice had zero taste. My husband had the beef tacos. It wasn't appealing. It looked like dog food. It was bland that he put "hot sauce" on it. Surf Taco's hot sauce is all vinegar and a pinch of cayenne. I don't think we will waste our money on this subpar fare anymore. read more

Decent but doesnt live up to the hype. Its cool that you can pick which salsa you want but i thought all salsa's werent anything special. You can get better out of a jar. Quality of the food isnt bad but just needs a little more flavor. The best way i can describe it is "good, not great." read more

I'm not a surfer, but this places makes me feel nearly as cool when I'm there :) I love both the Manasquan Surf Taco and this one. I've never been to the one in Point Pleasant Beach. But Surf Taco is a treat. Everything is fresh, all the time. Even the fried taco chips that accompany each order are fresh. The menu is varied, and the portions are generous. And the salsa bar is excellent. I wish I had one installed in my dining room. I usually get the quesadillas if I'm not hungry. They are glorious, although they are a caloric indulgence. And the chicken enchiladas are usually my choice for a full meal. Most everything comes with a LOT of black beans and rice. They're not slow, but they can get backed up so go early. There are tables there, but we usually just get takeout and eat at home. I believe that anything on the extensive menu is available for takeout. And as a repository of surfer culture, it's pretty cool. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. I recommend it. read more

They played really loud reggae the day I went but the fish burrito was pretty legit. From what I've seen, most of the food is really good and in generous portions. read more

We went here because the Kaya's Kitchen place was closed at the time. I've never been to one of these but I've always heard good things. It is really busy on the weekends, we came in right before the rush and the line was out the door. I got the Mushroom Veggie Burrito, I don't remember the exact name, but it was good! It was HUGE, for me anyways, but it was delicious for what I ate. The only negative part about it was that it got really soggy by the end of it, I'm assuming it was the beans but other then that it was delicious. The mushrooms were really tasty, I'm not usually a huge fan of them but they were great. My boyfriend got 2 veggie tacos, again very big, beans and rice. I like the chips and salsa bar. I would go back if I were ever down at the shore again. It's not the cleanest but it's down by the shore and people are sandy and what not but it isn't disgusting. The bathrooms aren't really labeled so you might walk by and not even notice it. They give you a numer and you find a table and they bring you your food, sometimes it gets a little hectic because there might not be a lot of tables if it's super busy. Def try it. read more

Used to love stopping in after the beach, but now it's so overrun that I really don't bother. The baja fish tacos are as good as ever, and I still think it's a pretty good value, but the wait and element that patronizes this place are a drag. I'll go back when I'm really craving it, or when there isn't a line out the door. Out of season, it would probably be 4 stars. read more

I read a couple of the reviews below and feel like I had a very different experience. Let me preface this review by saying I really tried to enjoy this place. We came in thinking we would have to wait in a line and then we would quickly get our food and be home to see the fireworks. It didn't happen. We waited in line for 10 minutes (not bad), but then our food took thirty minutes to come out. The place was not packed either. While waiting for our food, we sat at a table that was really sticky and water from the ceiling was dripping onto it so we switched tables. The second table was just as sticky. We asked someone to clean it and he used a dirty rag to clean and the stickiness remained :( Also, it was hot inside, why don't they have AC?! When the food arrived, it smelled amazing and the salsa that we gathered while waiting was a tasty complement. We ordered three different tacos: surf, carne asada and the mahi mahi. The surf taco was delicious! The juicy flaky texture of the fish accompanied by the crunchiness of the cabbage was perfect. The white cilantro sauce coupled with the spicyness of the baja (order it baja) sealed the deal. The other tacos were pretty good, but nothing special. Overall, the food took a really long time and it just simply wasn't worth the wait. I understand that it's a cheap place and I should overlook the sticky tables and drippy ceiling, but I think the food should be better if that is the case. read more

I ordered a salad through Surf Taco's website, which arrived on time but through Door. However, the restaurant doesn't supply forks ect. I had to walk to a fast food place a few blocks away to get one. By the time I got to eat the salad, it was soggy. Manager was rude. Buyer beware. My boyfriend's order was 100% wrong, missing part of it and had cheese all over the rest. He's allergic to cheese. Manager blamed door dash. Do not order from this restaurant. read more

People in High School used to always talk about this place. 7 years later its still rocking apparently. Me and the girls went last Thursday when the weather freakishly went back up to 88 degrees from a 72 norm and stopped by after a stint at Belmar. Combined we all tried the Chicken, Cod, Blackened Salmon & Shrimp Tacos. The Shrimp Taco was a huge favorite. The Cod lacked flavor. The blackened Salmon was repeatable. The Chicken disappointing. The salsas? Yum. read more

Went to Surf Taco with my family after the beach this week. It was great. The tacos were great - I loved the surf taco. The burritos were very good. Prices were great as well. Best of all, they had chicken strips for my youngest! Atmosphere is fun and casual. The wait for our food was a little long, but the games of Connect 4 that were available helped kill the time. My teenagers loved it. We will be back! read more

I've been visiting Surf Taco restaurants for about five years now - it has essentially become a ritual to stop by after each beach sesh. My local & most frequented location is in Belmar...its BYOB and filled with friendly people. I've tried a good majority of the menu, the favorites for me include chicken tender tacos, garlic shrimp tacos, various burritos, waffle cheese fries, and the tsunami. The salsa bar is usually full and if its not the staff takes care of it asap...like I said very friendly! Must say that over the years the portion size of the beef tacos has decreased and the fish tacos are a bit over fried at times - but still delicious. Take advantage of the combo meals when you eat here...for $10 you can get a filling meal, especially if you go with the rice & bean platters! While you eat enjoy some surf videos & laid-back tunes. read more
