Cold inside, lots of seating, subpar drinks and food. The pina coladas were watery and the rum was not blended. Everything served in a plastic cup. Nachos are meh, tots are underwhelming, fried rice is supposed to be good. I was underwhelmed

Went here on our first trip to Belmar! Loved the 10$ guacamole and salsa! It came in a huge serving!!! Burger was yummy and the tacos were pretty good. Wish the "pickled onions" were actually pickled. Service was slow but our waitress was nice!

LAKE COMO: we were driving through the streets of town and stumbled upon Joe's Surf Shack and we are so happy we did! Joe's has a dog friendly outdoor area with a very beachy vibe, a great food menu, and a full bar! The menu is full of a variety of options at reasonable prices from soft pretzels and edamame potstickers to tacos, wraps, and sandwiches, their famous fried rice, and so much more. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options are clearly labeled. They also have Happy Hour and a Late-Night menu. The outdoor dining is open weather-permitting, and they try to keep the tables out throughout the year as long as the weather is nice. There are sail shades and umbrellas at each table with TVs at the outdoor bar to watch the game. The staff is the best and so friendly and offered Brie a bowl of water. The owners also run Cross & Orange / Asbury Park, another awesome dog friendly spot.

My friend and I had a beach day in Belmar and this spot looked like one of the better places to eat at in the area based on the menu options. We sat outside on one of the benches since the weather was nice and the inside smelled like your typical dive bar. We were excited to order pina coladas but were let down as they barely had any coconut or pineapple flavor and tasted artificial/watered down, which didn't warrant the $14 price tag at all. As for food, I'm not sure why they have fried rice on the menu or how it's "famous" but it did not live up to the hype and was really salty to boot. We agreed that the grilled wings and Baja steak nachos were pretty good though. Sticking to bar food and beers seems to be the safest bet here. Overall a decent post-beach hang out spot for the area that has potential and some room for improvement.

    Stuffed Avocado. Yummy and unique!

Joe's Surf Shack has a great variety of offerings, pleasant seating, and friendly staff. We visited on a weekday afternoon and ordered the stuffed avocado, pretzel styx, grilled Mahi Mahi tacos, and mushroom and truffle fried rice. The avocado was really interesting and tasty, not something we'd had anywhere before. The pretzel styx were surprisingly good. I was a little worried they'd taste like mall pretzel bites, but they were much better and the beer cheese served alongside was very good as well. Good consistency and flavor. My dining companion said the tacos were great and I loved the mushroom fried rice. The mushrooms had a nice crispy texture and the quantity was ample. Service was friendly. We'll go back!

The beer here is simply outstanding. If you are scouring the Garden State for the best beer…read morepossible, you're in the right spot. But I'll get to that in a moment. The taproom is on another level as well. One might say it resembles a millennial hipster fever dream, but being a millennial myself I say it is incredibly well thought out and designed. Housed in a former manufacturing facility for a company that made military telecommunications equipment, there are so many different spaces all under one roof. A bar in the front room and a bar in the back room. A small 21+ lounge with couches in the front, and a giant 21+ "sports zone" with three giant TV's in the back. Three coolers for beer to go. A large merch area. High top tables. Regular tables. Immaculate bathrooms. This place has it all. My girlfriend and I came out on a Saturday afternoon when the place was packed with families and their kids. There was a toddler in the small 21+ lounge and a baby in the sports zone, and only two people pouring beers so they were unable to notice and do anything about it. We don't mind kids in breweries but be advised if that isn't your thing. To the beer: according to their website, they specialize in hoppy beers. There were 13 beers on tap (with some being slight variations of each other). One lager, four stouts, and the rest IPAs. They don't do flights but will pour you two sample sizes at a time, and you'll need those sample sizes for most beers because the ABV will knock you off your feet. I love IPAs and I can easily say they knocked these out of the park. The standout to me was the Birdie Putt, which they didn't have available in cans to go, so we got a four pack of the Ground Rule Triple instead. Founder Jeff Baker spent years honing his brewing skills in his garage before opening the brewery in 2023, and his dedication and passion really show in all of the beers. We live over an hour away, but we will definitely make the pilgrimage back sometime soon.

If this brewery were in Hopewell, Troon wouldn't stand a chance…read more This place clearly specialises in hazy IPAs, and it shows in both quality and range. The tap list is smartly organised by style--pale ale, IPA, double IPA, triple IPA, and even quad IPA--making it easy to navigate whether you want something approachable or fully saturated. On my visit there were also a handful of non-IPA options, including three stouts and two lagers, one of which was a dark lager, so there's still something for everyone. The space itself sets it apart: a large, open taproom with ample seating, plus a second taproom ideal for hosting events. There's a strong to-go game as well, with two coolers packed with cans. In warmer months, the outdoor areas add even more room to spread out and linger. Clean, well-maintained bathrooms round things out. A destination brewery that takes hazy IPA seriously and backs it up with the space and execution to match.
