This is a terrific, authentic Mexican food restaurant. We have been going here for years. The service is spectacular, however, on occasion will slow down if it is too crowded. It is a small Mom and Pop restaurant and you get the feeling that you're eating at someone's home. Stop at the liquor store across the street on route 35 before you get there and pick yourself up a bottle of wine. Favorite of mine is the Maria's Enchiladas Especial. Service was friendly and quick, ambiance is about the same as most other hole-in-the-wall Mexican spots, and the food ranges from delicious to average. Whenever a typical freebie is charged a la carte I expect it to be superior to the typical version, such as with chips or bread for that matter. Therefore $10 for chips with guacamole seems a little pricey, even if guacamole would be an up-charge anywhere elseregardless. The chips start at $5 for a simple platter with mild red salsa. While nice and fresh, they were simply good chips--not better than the average complimentary basket. Their guacamole is extremely creamy, almost too much so for me. Meanwhile, their green salsa is spicier than most with good flavor. The tacos, fortunately, were delicious. Both the beef brisket and the fish tacos would get a 9.x rating. Their homemade corn tortillas are excellent, the meat and fish are seasoned well, and there are plentiful toppings for authentic flavor. For $4-$5 they're priced decently as well. A chorizo torta was loaded with ingredients and served on solid bread, but it was average compared to exceptional versions I've had in the past which have also come with fries and/or chips from other places. I would come back since the tacos were worth in this case jogging out of town to get, but I think I would strategize my plan better: maybe one serving of chips with salsa, then 3-4 tacos. Better yet for sharing: a platter of tacos, which has to be ordered a la carte, could be phenomenal. read more

Found this place on yelp when I was looking for some Mexican while visiting point pleasant. I went in for lunch and it seemed like an authentic establishment with a menu of lots of good traditional Mexican items. I did the beef enchiladas and it was a very healthy portion. Little cubes of fairly tender meat smothered in cheese , rice and beans on side. I will go back and try some other dishes for sure read more

The food was very good and they give a nice amount. We were looking for Mexican and found this place thanks to Yelp during our visit to Point. We ordered takeout and everything was ready for pickup and labeled. The guacamole was fresh tasting and came with way too many chips for the portion size. Everyone enjoyed their rice and bean sides. The chicken fajitas were drenched with peppers and onions - a great way to get in your vegetable for the day! Minor complaint was that the fajitas didn't come with any salsa or sour cream. However, they were flavorful enough on their own. If you can't eat fajitas without them though, make sure to ask for it when ordering. read more

The only saving grace is that it is byob. The waitress was cold and aloof. Maybe she doesn't like her job. The food was bland as they likely cater to the Americanized population in that area. The beef in particular was very bland. The tortilla soup was good but cold, sent it back to warm up and it was warm at best but not hot. We added hot sauce to everything which is fine but we don't like super spicy. We like actual FLAVOR, herbs and spices without having to necessarily add too much hot sauce. The prices were fair. This was my first time visiting Doña Julia. I had the chicken burrito. It had a nice flavor as did the beans and rice. Like in some of the reviews I read prior to going, the cheese wasn't really melted inside the burrito. Overall it was good and worth a visit. read more

I have a great Burrito that I ordered while at the restaurant and took home. I got it wet with salsa verde. It was hot and delicious with great fresh ingredients. More recently I ordered on line at about 5:30pm for a 7:00pm pickup. They said it would be ready between 7:00 and 7:20. I arrived early and picked it up at 6:50. It was barely warm at best (I guess I should have reheated it.) My suggestion is not to use their Grub hub online ordering, unless you specify ASAP pickup or don't care if it arrives cold. read more

I had my birthday dinner here with a party of 12. We arrived and got seated right away at 730 on a Saturday night. We ordered a bunch of empanadas (potato, beef, chicken and chorizo) as well as the chorizo appetizer. The chorizo had some kick to it which I liked and the empanadas were okay. The beef and chorizo were tasty but the chicken and potato were very bland. Everyone got different dishes and I went with a few different tacos -- fish, chorizo, chicken tinga and carnitas. I ate the first one and to be honest I couldn't even tell you which one it was. By process of elimination I realized it was the fish, legitimately no flavor whatsoever. I ate the chorizo one which was tasty and got halfway through the pork before I stopped. I didn't care for any of them except the chorizo as everything lacked flavor and the tortillas were very chewy. I asked my friends and family and everyone either said their food was OK or not great on the whole. I was disappointed as the reviews were pretty good and wonder if it was because of the party of 12. I'm not sure I'll be back but the staff was very friendly that's the only thing keeping me from rating the food 1 or 2 stars. read more

This is by far the best Mexican food in this area. The food is seriously SO fresh and authentic. You can not compare it to Surf Taco, Chipotle, or other Mexican-inspired restaurant concepts and chains. The wait staff here is friendly and accommodating. And, because the restaurant is family-owned, the owner is here consistently to oversee daily operations and greet customers. He is friendly, recognizes his loyal/local customers, and doesn't hesitate to assist staff when needed. The restaurant is also very clean and decorated to celebrate Mexican heritage. I find the portions and prices to be very fair and reasonable. Tonight, for example, my Tortilla Soup and Flautas only totaled $16.03. Keep in mind this restaurant is kid friendly & BYOB. There is also ample room for large parties. My husband and I have dined here many times and enjoyed the Tortilla Soup, Tinga Flautas, enchilada platters, and tacos. Went today for lunch with 4 other adults and 4 young kids. The waitress was fabulous, helpful -"can I have an avocado for the baby to feed her ?" Answer - "of course ". I had the "wet" burrito with tinga meat ( chipotle flavored chicken) wet = melted cheese on top. It was fantastic !! Very authentic food, great service and reasonably priced !! 5 stars all day long ! There's a lot of uninspired bland chain type Mexican restos where we live in Bergen county so this is a welcome change. Chances are, if you're here on a Friday night during the summer, you will see Tara W and the fam chowing down on "Taco Friday" en route to the shore for the weekend Every time we come, we're greeted warmly. Sometimes the service is slow but that's because it's packed. There's lots of fun decor and mesmerizing shiny objects which makes our babies happy. If we have any room left after the awesome chips and salsa, Hubby enjoys the tacos, which are more than just your usual chicken, beef, or pork. I crave the spinach quesadilla but I've tried a couple other things too (chicken enchiladas, pechuga relena, tinga burrito) and they've been great. This week was the first time we've tried the tres leches cake and we definitely have to make up for lost time, omg. It's very sweet if you like that. read more
