It was alright. A little too cafeteria-like to get a 4th star. Mexican food for the masses. Counter service. Average prices. $5 for a taco and some chips. Combos for $7+. Maybe $8+ for a burrito. It was packed on a recent Friday afternoon. Kids, families, young broke people. Tables all super close to one another. Tortilla chips were flavorless and probably were from a bag. No one remarked on the food. It was just food. Dark inside. Salsa bar was grimy, eh. Could use some light, fresh air, and another round or two of cleaning a day. I've never eaten here because I don't like Mexican food, but I did try once and I waited in line for twenty minutes and that sucked. Once I got up to the front I finally saw the menu and the writing was super small. I ended up buying a bottle of water. I paid $5.00 for a bottle of water! That's not cheap and affordable! And the cashier didn't even notice me so I had to yell at her to ring me up. In the end, for people like me (minorities) these girls act like you're not there, then the food smelled and looked disgusting, it's not cheap, and people stared at me like I wasn't supposed to be there just because of my race. Been to Surf Taco many times and it is consistently good fresh food. The Belmar location has fast and friendly service. When you're in the mood for mexi-cali food (Coastal Cuisine as they call it) this is the place to go. Just wish they had more veggie/vegan options. read more

Food here is excellent. It is always busy but they get the food out pretty quickly. The surf taco and mahi mahi taco are favorites. They have a great selection of unique taco combinations. Burritos are very generously sized. Most everything comes with a side of chips. read more

Tacos are like #2 on my favorite foods list; behind Chick-fil-a because let's face it, that's a different league all on its own. With that being said, these tacos didn't live up to the hype for me. Great, inexpensive food! This location is large and has foosball on the side. The employees are friendly and we're willing to accommodate any needs we had throughout our visit. Is it really acceptable to wait 30 minutes for a taco salad and tacos, evidently they think so. There might be 6-8 ingredients on the entire menu to mix and match and that takes 30 minutes. 1/2 full on a Wednesday and the manager says they're very busy....really. I'm sorry you're not a 5 star, not even a Bar A where I can get a drink and I can't even get chips if I had a drink because, you guessed it, 30 minutes. OK so surf taco is a jersey shore staple at this point and it's delicious. The surf taco soft taco in my favorite can't go wrong with it for a quick bite. Here's what I think is one of the best deals around, If you're on a budget surf taco has a burrito called the tsunami its ridiculously huge and its like $18 bucks but honestly 2 relatively normal eaters will either be stuffed after wards or not finish and it's delicious. (just a lil trick on the cheaper side) otherwise walk into surf taco and order away cause it's all good and the vibe there is very lax, ex. surfer movies playing a salsa buffet bar and chill raggae music usually. read more

I'm done. Half the time the food is good, half the time it sucks. What IS consistent is the rude staff who specialize in orders that are wrong, incomplete, or both! My husband and I ate there on Monday, my order was wrong, his was incomplete. No apology, nothing. The runner literally grunted at me and the guy at the counter avoided eye contact. I sincerely wish I had not tipped 20%. The table was sticky and the chips tasted like fish because their fryer oil was dirty. Go to Manasquan if you want ST or better yet try out Azteca on rt 71; the outside is a little sketch but it's spotless inside and everything is made from scratch. read more

I've been to Surf Taco about five times and on average have experienced a low quality service. Two out of the five times they ran out of my order. I got an Aloha wrap that had teriyaki chicken, pineapples, and other things inside. It was a good wrap, but it wasn't outstanding to me. My friends enjoyed their tacos though. I think there's a lot of hype for this place, but in the end the food wasn't anything spectacular to me. It undeniably has some cool vibes and features, like all the surf/beach decor. I also wasn't expecting a salsa bar, which I thought was nice because there were choices of mild and hot and in between. I seriously love this place. They are BYOB and make a slamming garlic shrimp burrito. Salsa is always fresh and the verde is bomb.com. I will say to go visit during the week - the weekends tend to have a lot of more traffic and back ups in the kitchen.
