This place is an absolute joke. Tacos are average. Chicken tastes like shredded cardboard. Beef is the lowest grade possible. Steak is burnt to a crisp. All tacos come with a small portion of chips which is unavailable to be removed. Buy Chips and cheese and you will be absolutely appalled. Your better off unloading the lbs of cheese off your tacos and throwing them in the microwave/toaster oven... It's what surf taco does. Surf Taco is excellent. I think the people giving it negative reviews are looking for SUPER AUTHENTIC Mexican food for dirt cheap (which you can't find anywhere but Mexico). And I don't think they try to make it seem like it is that type of establishment. I have been going to the Pt. Pleasant Surf Taco for about 6 years now. Food has always been fresh, the place is clean, Workers are friendly and they still give you free refills on soda/water. I would have easily given it 5 stars, but they aren't so cheap anymore. This place is super casual and the food is great. Especially for the price. I ordered the fish taco combo plate and based on he price, wasn't expecting much food, so I ordered an extra taco. Boy was I wrong. I was very hungry and did not need the third taco, but ate it anyway as they were delicious! We ate around mid afternoon on a recent Saturday. There was no wait, and we got our food rather quickly. Regarding some comments about sticky tables: ours was too, but not sticky from not being clean that I could tell. I went to Surf Taco maybe two weeks ago with my friends for her birthday. This was our first time actually trying it, but we had heard so many good reviews. The staff and employees were very nice and friendly. On the day we went, there was some sort of contest, so we participated and won a shirt. The experience and vibe was very nice, sadly I cannot say the same about the food. I ordered the two tacos, rice & beans and chips combo. I picked the Mahi and Surf Taco, ordered them both with the spicy sauce, forgot what its called. My friends ordered the chicken burrito with chips. The 'spicy' salsa at the salsa bar was not spicy, the 'spicy' sauce on the tacos was not spicy either. The 'rice and beans' was almost a joke. I was excited and anxious to taste them but was quickly let down when i seen that it looked like boiled instant white rice and canned goya black beans with no seasoning or just salt & pepper but still gave it a try, i was correct. The salsa was very good and the guacamole had the most seasoning out of everything my friends and I ate. Would not recommend or go again, would sell my soul to satan for a single dorito before i returned. read more

Its popularity is clear from the longish lines at this location and the ~20 minute wait for food that might come with a visit at peak times. However, I find it worthy of the wait. Food: There's lots to choose from on the menu, but I always go for the 2 taco combo with a garlic shrimp and a surf taco. On my most recent visit, I was disappointed to see that the add-on fee for shrimp or fish was $1.25 per taco, which bumps my total up by $2.50. The combo comes with chips, rice and beans, and a drink. I was also semi-disappointed to see that they swapped the fancy soda machine for a standard fountain machine as that was always part of the excitement of going to surf taco. The salsa bar, however, is great with a few options to compliment your meal. That being said, the combo is filling and if you like fish tacos, you can't go wrong with the garlic shrimp or Surf taco. For eat-in, the experience is very casual: you order and pay at the counter, seat yourself, and they bring your food to you. The crowds can often bring rowdy youth or families, so if you're looking for a quiet dinner you might consider take-out or eating at the tables outside. Seeing that I am myself a young adult, I enjoy the vibes of Surf Taco and don't mind the noise. The seating area is plentiful, with tables ranging from family-sized to 2 person. For the food, I would rate Surf Taco 4 stars, and for the eat-in experience, 3 stars--for a total 3.5 stars. I eat here at least once a week. Service is friendly and helpful. Their hot sauce is my absolute favorite on this planet. And I love how they have a variety of different kinds you can choose from. Nothing beats spending a day at the beach and ending it with Surf Taco!!!! I just love this place and their reasonable prices. I always get at least 2 items, 1 of them being a "surf taco" and their delicious guac on the side :) If one was closer to me, I would eat here ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the time. The maverick, jenks, and garlic shrimp burritos are my favorite. Yes, it's A LOT of food and yes I do go into a heavy food coma after. DEFINITELY worth it. I understand that many restaurants at this level are under staffed and certainly appreciate the employees that show up everyday to keep these businesses open. ST I would say is a quick serve type restaurant. More Togo orders than eat in. When you are busy and understaffed the wait time for food should be stated up front (if it is significantly longer than what is usual). I waited 20 minutes before I inquired about the status of my take out order. I was told it is almost ready. Waited another 10 minutes, asked again politely for status, response was "we are really backed up", ok I understand, how much longer, "oh yours is almost ready", another 15 minutes go by, inquire again, ready to just leave...."about 7 more minutes we are waiting for the side chips to be done", I do not need the chips I will just take my food without the chips, it si not a problem. Food comes out 8 minutes later. I waited 60 minutes to get 2 tacos off the menu! Where is the management? You have high school kids managing this business and you are obviously giving them zero direction or support. I do not blame the 16 year old girls at the register, I blame management and ownership. My fave!! Literally a staple of my summer, I always make it here a bunch in the summer when I'm in Belmar and occasional during rest of the year. I always get the two taco combo with the coconut shrimp or salmon taco if is a special and the chicken tender taco. Also the sunsets classic burrito is very good. Love the inside laid back vibe of this surf taco and of course the fresh salsas and chips. If I ever leave jersey I'll be very sad to leave my surf taco behind! read more

Finally came to surf taco to see what all the hype was about. I would give the food 3.5 stars, if that was an option, but went with 3 for the total experience. We went at a good time, there was no wait. We ordered the combo that came with 2 tacos (mahi) , rice beans and chips and the garlic shrimp burrito and 2 drinks. You order first then get a number for your table. Plenty of seating, but the tables were not wiped down and felt generally slimy? Anyway, the food came out quickly, and looked good. I did enjoy the tacos themselves, the Mahi was cooked well and the overall bite was good. I really liked the crunch of the cabbage within this otherwise soft taco. The pineapple as also a surprising delicious addition, though I am certain it was not fresh pineapple. Only later did I realize I could've got it Baja style, which is adding a combination of other sauces to the taco to enhance it, only available for the Mahi and classic surf taco, but the employee never offered that to me which was unfortunate. The rice and beans were fine, nothing special just black beans and white rice. I wish it was Spanish rice or something like chipotle's cilantro lime rice (just something to flavor and spice up the boring plain white rice). The chips were fine, just regular tortilla chips. The garlic shrimp burrito was tasty and had a lot of little shrimps inside. I would come back just to try more tacos (but each taco is 4-5.25 EACH) because the food did hit the spot after a long day at the beach, just didn't love my overall experience being in the restaurant (customer service, cleanliness of tables, etc.) read more

We've been down the shore every weekend for the last couple years since we bought a condo in Spring Lake Heights and have been meaning to check out Surf Taco and see what the fuss is about. So this past weekend we went to the Surf Taco in Manasquan for lunch. I'd never go back. My husband got a special - two beef tacos in crispy shell and I ordered one soft chicken taco and one crunchy. For starters, the order was wrong. I got the soft chicken, but the crunchy was beef instead of chicken. No big deal. But, everything is cold. Cold chopped meat? Gross. The chips are nothing great. A bag of Tostitos would have been just as good. And there's no way the nutritional info is right. I'm pretty on top of this and they want me to believe that the chicken taco I had was only 130 calories - probably 130 for the tortilla alone, not to mention the cheese. And both of our stomachs were doing the hokey pokey within an hour of leaving there. I don't understand the fuss and now I can write this place off for good. read more

I like this place a lot and eat there often in the summer time. The Steak Tacos are the Bomb but a friend turned me on to the Hawaiian Salad witch I believe is the best thing on the menu and I'm not a huge Salad guy but it's Crazy good. Starts with a bed of Romain lettuce and teriyaki chicken big pieces of pineapple chunks pico de gallo cucumbers and crumbled goat cheese. I like mine with sliced jalapeños as a add on but that just my taste. The atmosphere is OK definitely a lunch or early dinner type place with a obvious Surfing theme. The staff is pretty friendly food is made quickly and tasty. I've taken a full star away and only given four due to the high price of their food it is fresh ingredients but still on the high side. Was very unimpressed. This wasn't my first time at Surf Taco, I've gone to the Red Bank location and enjoyed it very much. Belmar was very crowded. It took a good 30+ mins for us to get our meals. In the meantime we got fountain sodas from the machine that was out of ice. The food was not how I remember it. The grilled fish on my taco was very dry, the rice and beans were lacking flavor and the salsas were nothing to write home about. Don't know what changed but wasn't a happy customer. read more

Will definitely come back but got about two pieces of shrimp on my mango shrimp taco, the rest of it was all cabbage. Would recommend you avoid it, cute place though, decent prices, only downfall is their young servers, they don't really know what they're doing when we got our food they didn't even know what they were carrying in their arms.
