    Awesome frosting!

Great donut shop, the donuts are really fresh. My grandson loves them, when he visits it's one of his favorites.

We tried Surf Rat for the first time over Fourth of July weekend and fell in love! Doughnuts were warm and tasty and the staff was friendly despite being so busy. We enjoyed eating them at their outdoor tables with our dog after a beautiful morning beach walk. We will definitely be back for more

Apple and vanilla glazed...best doughnuts of my life.

This little gem is no joke the best doughnut I have ever had. Right by the water, super cute spot, really nice people, what more could you ask for?! We got the apple and the vanilla glazed donuts, simple nothing crazy because they didn't need to be. Warm and freshly glazed the most fluffy mouthwatering, pillowy, halos of deliciousness I have ever had. Im really bummed we don't live closer because I would get these all the time!

Delightful cake donuts made from scratch! They also make small batch FRESH glazes that will send your tastebuds into another dimension. Seriously, just get one of each. Ben and Jessica never fail to impress. Surf rat donuts are a timeless treat that combine the comfort of a homemade dessert with the joy of a classic donut experience. Set right on the beach: donuts, coffee and a stroll down the beach, it was the perfect start to a day!

Went to Cayucos for the weekend and finally tried Surf Rat Donuts! I got a plain donut for my baby which was perfectly crispy and not too sweet. My husband got the maple donut and thought it was delicious and he said there was the right amount of maple frosting. I got the cinnamon sugar and it was super light, fluffy and delicious. Happy to have this spot in Cayucos and it's a sweet treat I'm looking forward to having again.

About a new 2 week+ donut shop with every donut made to order. Nothing like a nice warm donut at the beach with fresh toppings. Try it, you'll like it...

Absolutely fantastic location, awesome name for a donut shop by the beach, great niche for Cayucos, and a wonderful view of the ocean while watching your donut being iced. We bought one dozen and it came to $36. I have 5 kids ages 2-12 and each one of the kids picked one of the 8 donuts and unfortunately no one loved them. Upon immediately grasping a donut, the icing is wet and sticky and thin, didn't matter which iced donut was chosen; the kids did not enjoy this issue. The husband and I are cake donut connoisseurs and tried to really enjoy it, but the cake itself lacked a sweet vanilla flavor and was a bit dry. Since we had leftovers, we tried them later in the afternoon and it just got worse. Sadly, this is not a place I would recommend since the quality of the product is just not what I would expect.

We got a maple and vanilla donut and the owner offered us a lemon one as well because they were closing. We really enjoyed the donuts and they all tasted great! They are sticky and messy, but most good deserts are that way. I think not expecting a traditional experience is the best way to go, these are great in their own way! Wishing them lots of success!

Next is trying the chocolate and maple, waiting to get a filled donut by watching instagram

The first time was around 1pm on a Wednesday and they were out of the ham&cheese croissants we wanted and the donut shelves were looking meek. Good for them! I applaud a business that can run low on same day made baked goodies near closing time. They know their customers. This time we arrived at 8am and jumped in the line. 2 croissant sammies, 2 donuts, 2 milk and a coffee later and we were back in the car at 8:03! With 3 friendly, fast working sets of hands helping the crowd, the line went very quickly. No need for me to taste test a donut hole at Dolly's since they proudly display a "100% vegetable oil used" sign. NO NASTY SOY TASTE!!! The croissant was soft and slightly chewy, the cheese perfectly melted and the ham seemed to be Danola brand, not a thin Buddig variety. The donuts offered included the traditional, can't go wrong variety Hubs likes, but I was feeling a bit more adventurous and chose a pineapple upside down old fashioned. YUM! Seating inside looked clean and well maintained and, in addition to blended drinks and coffee, the refrigerator offered a nice array of beverages. Fairly priced and lots of parking. This nice donut shop can satisfy a sweet or savory tooth. Cheers! "CC"

I travel up here for work on occasion and it was a great place for me to purchase fresh donuts instead of the ones down in SLO specially if I wasn't down there already. Overall, The vibe here is more cozy but it is also in a busier location because of the location of the movie theater. I've driven by here hundreds of times but never realize that it was hiding in plain sight. All of my usual favorites are here. There's always a lot of the fancy looking donuts and my personal favorites are the creampuffs. These are probably one of the best creampuffs I've ever had. They're almost like larger donut holes with cream in there. They're just wonderful. I've always wanted to try some of the drinks that they have here but I've always only purchased the donuts and creampuffs here. The last time I was here, the team was very friendly and helpful and they were able to get me in and out of there in a matter of minutes. I needed roughly 5-10 mins to look over all of the options before making my selections. There is a front case with all of the specialty donuts and a whole back wall with the classics donuts. To say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement. As a group of 4 we decided to order several donuts to share. We ordered the blueberry cake, pecan pie raised, mashed potato raised, lavender with sprinkles raised, pumpkin cheesecake, espresso filled, pumpkin brûlée bites, and a jalapeño ham and cheese croissant. The donuts are very beautifully decorated and the time that was spent decorating them shows. The customer service was patient, kind and very helpful. Some of the funky donuts such as the mashed potato raised donut is actually vanilla flavored and thankfully the person helping us was patient enough to tell us all of the flavors. All of the donuts were delicious. No complaints what so ever. As for the prices, they were listed above and everything is a fair price for speciality donuts. Additionally, they offered a very generous 25% discount for military. Inside there were seating options surrounding a fire place, bar style seating, and some options outdoors.
