    Crab Fried Rice
    Camille F.

Amazing cocktail menu. Kinda weird food menu... lots of burgers/sandwhiches and appetizers. Not a whole lot for the anti-handheld crowd, which I occasionally find myself in at suppertime. Staff and manager were on it! We sat outside and they very promptly turned on all the heaters to make sure we were warm, great service! Surfhound is filling a hole in the Mountain Brook restaurant scene for that balance between take-out and fancy-schmancy. I had the Crab Fried Rice. Don't let the size fool you, it was super filling. Spicy wasn't too spicy, either.

Yummy food for fast semi-casual dining. The frontier, a bison burger, was my favorite entree. My favorite dish overall were the sweet and sour sprouts- they were PERFECT! The quesadilla was okay but I probably wouldn't order it again. I love all 3 restaurants under this chef (Maro takes first place, Abhi second, and Surf Hound last). If Surf Hound had a few more menu options that weren't under a burger category, or just a more expansive menu overall, they would've received 5 stars. Also, a side of French fries should not be $6.5 unless it's Jesus making them himself. They were good fries but we easily couldn't done without.

Here for day 2 since opening. Atmosphere is so much fun with an indoor and outdoor area. However, service has been soooo slow for cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. Trying to give grace given recent opening. Our server was very kind. My frose took forever to come out which was silly because it is in a machine pre-made. The food was honestly underwhelming. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, nachos, and fries. They arrived after the entrees..... everything was pretty average. Brussel sprouts were well seasoned. My friends ordered the fried rice and the burgers, which were ok. Honestly, I will not be coming back for several several months to see if they are able to get things more in order. At this point, would only come back for vibes, froze, and brussel sprouts.

Fast service and a friendly staff. Great laid back relaxing atmosphere but still with a classic cafe feel. We really love the ice water in the aluminum cups it was super cold. My wife got Tide Chicken Planks they were hot and crunchy moist and tender, they were great. The serving portions are pretty healthy. I love the Korean wings. Great restaurant with a nice location. We noticed they had a deck out back that looked pretty neat but we didn't venture out there.

Waited a while for our table then got seated and sat for about 5 minutes until being asked to move. As we walked to the other table we realized it could barely sit 2 people and we were a group of four and had to carry our drinks and menus back to the original table. Cocktails were good. Loaded fries were delicious. Burgers were good. It was my birthday and got the crab fried rice aka the most expensive thing on the menu and was very disappointed. They comped my drink but not the meal. Restaurant itself has done a good job of decor and outside area. Will try it again. Hope the kinks get worked out.

Ambiance was great! Food and service were subpar. I was excited to try this place and figured they would nail it since Abhi does so well. My burger was missing toppings. I was scared to complain because everything was taking soooo long. We ordered potato wedges for a little over $6 and we counted exactly 6 wedges. That's ridiculous. I ordered a Sea Foam which is basically an Aperol Spritz. It was all aperol and super sweet. No bubbles at all!! I might try again after they're open longer but the burger was an epic fail. The menu states it come with Gochujang and hound sauce. Neither were give.

Village Quesadilla w/ Birria Chicken: 9/10

Surf Hound was fun! The ambiance was very lively, with excellent indoor and outdoor seating options. Lots of options on the menu for everyone! We went on their second day of being open and it was super busy. It took about an hour for food to come out, but we hope this improves with time. Brussel Sprouts: 9/10. Definitely one of the better items we had there and one of the better brussels sprouts we've ever had. Nachos: 6.5/10. Nothing to write home about. Could have made the exact same thing at home Village Quesadilla with Birria Chicken: 9/10. Well seasoned, crispy, and comforting! The Gulfstream Crunch: 6/10. Not bad, but had a weird aftertaste for us. Parking: Easy to find within a 5 minute walk of the restaurant. There's a ton to do in the surrounding area!

    Great drinks

10/10 highly recommend. Always on point and the drinks are great This was my second time here and this is my new favorite place in the city. Service always on point as well!!

Nachos with steak, barrel fries, sweet and sour wings, and sweet and sour sprouts.

Really enjoyed the food and the vibe! The flavors were such a good combo on the barrel fries and Brussels sprouts especially. Definitely get the frozen hound. All the creativity you would expect from chef Abhi! Had a baby with us and we were on the upper patio and the heaters kept it comfortable all evening!

I wanted to love this place SO BAD!! There's an attached arcade!!…read moreAnd the staff was SO NICE and friendly and helpful and I loved the industrial, creative decor. But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!

The staff was friendly and patient as I forgot my readers so a lot of questions were asked. Thank you Andreana. We had the tenderloin (which I haven't had in YEARS). I was not disappointed. We also had the southerner and it was tasty. They had a happy hour where I got a wine and husband got a frozen drink. Then round 2 I opted for the daily drink, daiquiri. Each day there is a different drink as a special. I enjoyed the music and the vibe. Would come back to this place when I'm in Birmingham again.

I have been here for lunch a couple of times now for The Work Week Lunch Deal - Standard Burger (or…read more6 wings), Side , Soda/Tea for $13.49. A really good deal! Seated immediately and ready to take your order as soon as you decide. The Standard Burger (Lettuce. tomato, onion, pickles, horsey sauce & american cheese) is really good. Fries are cooked just right. Previously I got a mix of the Fries and Onion Rings. Onion Rings are great too! I have had The Three Hander sandwich (Niman ranch corned beef, fries, tomato, jalapenos, creamy slaw, dijonaise, mozzarella on sourdough) from their original location which is great too. I should probably try other things as well but the lunch deal is hard to pass up. Since it is not too far from my office, will definitely continue to be a part of my regular lunch rotation. Only downside for me is the parking. There are limited spots on the street out front. Adjacent to the building there is a lot that is part of the apartment complex behind it but not really enough spaces for the 2 restaurants.

The chairs sucked to add to it. I find the bathroom, whoever thought it was such a good idea to put a faucet that high was special because you have to turn the water low enough or push the faucet to the side to prevent from it splashing all over you. My in-laws got there a few mins before us and got everyone waters which that was good. The waitress, it took her forever to come back by to ask for drinks or starters. Granted we were waiting for a few other people but my husband wanted a soda and we were going to go ahead and get an appetizer. I decide to stick with my water because I just felt like I would get a drink if I asked for something different. Which I was right. My husband had to wave the waitress down for his soda. She accidentally brought him diet. She never brought back his drink. I had to get up and ask the hostess about our his drink and that we were wanting to order an appetizer. The hostess apologized and said they were really busy. I know I had to fix my face because I looked around, saw our table, and two other tables, about 6 people at the bar that the bartender handled, and looked back at the hostess like, "wtf?" The rest of our group shows up. Waitress comes back. Still no drink for my husband and gets our appetizer orders along with the remaining drink orders. When the appetizers comes out, it was a guy who brought it to us and we asked him about the soda and he apologizes and gets it for us...finally. Nothing special about the appetizer just chips and dip. We finish it and once again...the waiting game. The rest of our group still had yet to get their drinks. She comes back after another long wait, drink less, and gets our orders. My father in-law mentions the drinks, she apologies, and gets them. The wait it took for our food to come was ridiculous. I hate to imagine how long we would have had to wait if it was actually busy. Maybe it might have been worth my wild if the food was phenomenal but the moment it was sat in front...I knew it was not gonna be good. I got the Alfredo with shrimp. It looked like some soup. The sauce to noodle ratio was not good. The sauce was so runny that I had to lean it and eat the noodle like Naruto eating ramen. 5 measly pieces of shrimp. The sauce was also very gritty. How something that is so runny also be gritty, I don't know but I've had lean cuisine frozen alfredo dinners better than this $29 plate. 3 of us ordered Alfredo, only one got a piece of bread but I'm not asking for bread because I don't want to wait 30 mins to get it. My son looked at me and legit said, "we should have just gone to Olive Garden" knowing good and well I don't care for Olive Garden but also knowing it would have been better than whatever this plate in front of me was called. When walking to my car, I looked at everyone and said, "I'm sorry but this place sucked. I've been curious about it and now that I've experienced it...there is nothing here that would bring me back." So I suggest spend your money elsewhere because there is nothing that makes this place standout enough to have the audacity to have nonexistent service and charge $29 for soupy Alfredo
