I hadn't been to Paper Doll since their new POP renovation, and wanted to try it out this weekend! Walked from a restaurant on 2nd Ave after eating dinner and stumbled into a burlesque show! It's a very intimate bar, galley style. The cocktails are great, they have all the basics and usually a smaller menu of fun options. My friend and I ordered a drink and sat down at one of the tables to take in the show!! They do the burlesque show on the last Friday of every month! It was so fun and the crowd made it feel like a safe space. I'm going to try to bring my mom and some of her friends for the next one! It's a great bar with comfortable seating, and on this night it wasn't so loud that my older, hearing impaired friends wouldn't enjoy it. Burlesque aside, this is a great bar for an intimate drink. Ok... so it looks different than the original Paper Doll. Neon, 80's/90's vibe, unicorn on the wall. I loved the original decor so this is ... different. Moving on, I ordered two cocktails: vitamin sea and out of the office, I think. I explained that I don't like sweet - both were made perfect for me with less syrup. We were there for happy hour, which is $2 off all drinks. I also had their chips and dip (no kitchen menu). 2 drinks and chips = $29. This used to be one of my go-to spots for a sleek environment, great crowd, and the icing on the cake were the thoughtful, creative, and innovative cocktails. I would always bring friends from out of town. Now the concept has changed directions to a less-sophisticated establishment. But perhaps this is a smart business move to compete with some of the other bars sporting neon lights and bright colors. For me the problem is not the change but that the quality of cocktails have suffered in the process. No longer are the cocktails the star of the show. Now its limited menu caters to more of a younger crowd. Say goodbye to Sazeracs and hello to jello shots! I ordered a Thank You for Smoking, but unfortunately, I had to send it back because I could literally taste the chemicals from whatever equipment was used to smoke it. My first time back since Paperdoll rebranded to POP, and I'm happy to say it still has the same vibe I loved. Even for a Saturday night, it wasn't really busy -- which was actually nice. We sat at the bar (always a good idea in my opinion), and the service was pretty good. The music selections really elevated the night, and the star of the show was the pomegranate martini -- their take on a pornstar martini -- so yummy! I had to sit there waving my damn hand like I was trying to order tater tots in a high school cafeteria just to get the bartender's attention. My server was apparently living in Narnia or hiding in the back room for 20 minutes at a time. And don't get me started on the music. They hype up this app where you get to pick the songs, but then the staff hijacks it to play their own lame playlist while my songs' music videos are still playing on the TVs like some kind of bad lip-sync battle. What's the point? It's messy, it's lazy, and it's unprofessional. Drinks alone don't save a place that runs like a Dollar Tree knockoff nightclub. The ambiance was pretty nice. But it was very hard to get our servers attention to order food and drinks. Once we finally did, it took FOREVER before we saw our server again. Once he did bring us drinks, we had one more person coming and wanted to go ahead and order her a drink as well, but that took a while. Then we ordered a charcuterie board, which we never got because our server didn't come back. We finally had to actually get someone else to get our server, so we could pay the bill and get the board taken off of the bill. The second server we talked to was REALLY nice and personable, which helped because at this point we were frustrated. I'm not sure if I will go back or not. This nice, upscale bar has yet to disappoint. I like how at certain times you can just walk in and find your own seating. You can either walk to the bar and place your order or if you're seated they'll come to you and like most bars you can leave you tab open. On my last two visits I've ordered Queen's Navy which is a gin cocktail with lemon juice, orgeat, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Very nice and smooth going down and is on the sweet side. I also had the Elder-Bramble last night and it was good too but not something I'd go back too. Overall service is nice and quick. The atmosphere is relaxing with dimmed lights and upscale decor. Sooooo I love absinthe and Paper Doll has an absinthe drip that I can't get enough of. They have several great drinks in general and a wide variety of alcohol for straight or mixed drinks. Brennan and Water are my favorites as far as service goes. The space has a decent amount of seating, but fills quickly on the weekends. It's a rather quick rush though so you'll be able to enjoy it being less crowded around 10 or 1030. read more

What a downgrade, Paper Doll used to be the spot. It used to have a classy and easy going/conversational vibe. Now it has a confused identity, is it a sports bar? A bad club? I don't know, but the drinks are now laughable as they now use half the menu space for THC drinks instead of craft cocktails and has no identity other than cheap and confused. The new walls of LED lights are cheap and the tasteful decor on the walls is now replaced with enough flat screens to fill a BestBuy that are playing sports or music now controlled by the patrons. If you want a forgettable experience with bad drinks or a disappointing night with the memory of what this place was before the remodel, you should check it out! The service is also a specter of the formerly attentive and skilled staff, the bartenders didn't make anything remotely as good as what they had before and the servers(?) seem to just want to congregate at the end of the bar to talk and people watch. Overall skip the disappointment if you're expecting the formerly relaxed conversational atmosphere with the best drinks downtown. Time to let it go unfortunately. read more

The atmosphere may be upscale, but the prices are very reasonable. Every drink I had was unique as it was delicious. Tried this new bar after a yelp event the other day and I was not disappointed! The drink selection was awesome. They had an extensive wine and beer list, plus a plethora of interesting cocktails. I had the Provence, which is New Amsterdam Vodka, St Germain, Domaine de Canton, fresh Lemon Juice, Lavender Bitters, Prosecco, and Rose Hips. The cocktail was refreshing and delicious, and I felt fancy AF with the roses floating around in there! There was a decent jazz singer there and we enjoyed the music. What a lovely bar! I was a fan of the previous establishment that occupied this space and I must say I am very impressed with how the new owners have re-designed what was already a nice place. The decor is very opulent and classy. Lots of soft seating...plenty of room to sit! The bar is beautiful, and I really like the drink selection. Lots of unique recipes. The bartenders are very well-versed on the menu and can also make a custom cocktail after having a short conversation with you about your preferences. The dim lighting provides an intimate atmosphere, so it's a great date spot. I have also met a large group of friends there as well and we were easily accommodated in a small, private room. Parking is a challenge, but welcome to the new downtown. So on a busy night, be prepared to park a block or two away. read more

They do have a happy hour menu with nice drink options to choose from. The only downside to this bar is the lack of food options. They have small snack items that you can purchase. I ordered the spicy mixed nuts for $5 and it did enough to absorb the alcohol. If you only want to drink this would not be an issue of concern. I ordered the FDB drink off of the happy hour menu and it was delicious. Overall this is a nice place to try something different. read more

Bartender would not make eye contact and made six or seven drinks in front of us before we asked another worker the best way to order. She said by flagging down a server vs waiting at the bar. I had never heard of this place before, and that is definitely my mistake. A group of us came here on a weekday night. A few other patrons stopped in, but we had the place mostly to ourselves. The one bartender answered all of our questions and gave recommendations, even if you could only give vague descriptions of what you wanted or were in the mood for drinking. He was very knowledgeable about all kinds of drinks, and even made me a Pisco Sour, something I haven't had since my visit to Peru. I tried a few of our group's drinks, and they were all well made. But if it's packed, it may definitely take some time to get your drinks, as they are made when ordered, and definitely served fresh! Okay so this is my new FAVORITE bar. I don't drink alcohol, but I love getting to go to bars with my friends. Luckily, the bartender had ALCOHOL-FREE spirits. The mocktails were incredible and I could barely taste the difference. The bartender (I forget his name) was VERY accommodating. I always feel awkward ordering mocktails at bars, but he was enthusiastic to suggest new ideas and his favorite of the mocktails and spirit substations. Listen, I really want to give this place more stars, but I just can't. I didn't realize this used to be Tavern on 1st til I ended up on their Yelp page. Both times I went, it was on the weekend. So I walked in and IMMEDIATELY loved the vibes. The furniture, the chandeliers, the space, LOVED IT. It's very classy with ecleptic furniture that gives it fashion vibes. None of the funiture really matches, but it all works together to give it a modern and fashionable look. We made our way to a table and my friend and I sat on the couch. So comfy! I love that it spans the entire wall. The marble was gorgeous and the lighting was great. The cocktail menu is expansive and I asked for a particular flavor that they made happen in my cosmo. TIP: Each bartender has a specialty drink! they have table service which is great. The space looks small, but it's really deep and has a lot of seating. Of course, it can get packed being downtown and all. My drink was great, but was very pricey. For the second time, my bf got a drink. An old fashioned, but he hated it. The liquor in it was interesting and he'll have to tell the waiter what he wants next time. I love the curtains making different rooms in the building and I love the space overall. That was NOT enough to get a 5 out of 5. There was more. We ordered a cheese plate and a chocolate plate. Both very reasonably priced and excellent quality. Then the atmosphere was unique, comfortable and attractive. Finally, the staff is exciting and happy to serve you. This place will become very popular.
