Wow! I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place until now (years later). My husband and I frequent Lou's quite a bit. Carpri, Jessie, Ms. O., Mike, Angel, and newest to the crew Janice are awesome. You can't find a better place in town that you can stop by and order a drink (anything you want they can make) and also take a bottle to go from their extensive selection of spirits. Even though Lou's is one of the oldest bars in Birmingham they make sure to keep up with latest craft cocktails. Make sure to add this place to your list of best bars in Birmingham!!

This goes down as the most magical travel experience of my life. I'm being serious. At face value, it looks like a typical dive bar. So we start drinking light beer. Then randomly, we notice there are several bottles of blantons for sale. Okay...things are getting interesting. It starts pouring down rain, so we continue drinking. Then a new bartender shows up, with a whole mixologist set up. So now I realize there is a cocktail bar vibe here. Many many drinks into the experience, the main guy/general manager/maybe owner forcibly cashes us out (and not because we were asleep on the bar). He said if we only had a weekend in Birmingham, he refused to let us spend our whole night in his bar. From there, he puts us in his minivan, and gives us a small tour of the city. And then takes us to the nicest restaurant in town, and gets us a table for dinner. All in an effort to make sure we loved Birmingham. That's the type of place Lou's is. If you're there, you become family. And they will make sure you have a good time.

The old fashioned and service in this quaint little joint is UNREAL!!! Amazing selection of bourbon, craft cocktails, the usual stuff as well. They also have bushwhackers that are creamy and boozy!!!! If you LOVE knob creek try Janice's special old fashioned....she LOVES making it!!!

A package store and bar all in one!!

I first visited Lou' s Pub in the late 80s. It was owned by a guy named Lou Zaden and was a cool hangout place just down the hill from my "then" apartment. The original "Lou" died in 2008, but this bar is still going strong. It is located in the Lakeview area which is "open carry" and is always "happening" on the weekends. Two of my favorite things about Lou' s is that it is open late and it has a cozy, family attitude.

What a really cool, small Birmingham bar. I can see why everyone loves this place! Came in for a mid-afternoon break from Slicefest. I have to admit the beautiful beacon (ok so maybe it was just a banner style sign on top of the roof) with the magical words Bushwacker was all I needed to see and I was all in. Easy set up as you walk through the door...three zones: Left: Full bar with bar stool seating the length of the building. Awesome bartenders, and no its not because they have Bushwackers (ok maybe a little...but not totally). Middle: Table style seating that even though they were kind of full...and there was a festival going on outdoors, there was still space available. Right: Package store. The length of the building lined with a huge variety to take home and practice your amateur mixology. Not sure about prices, as I wasn't buying anything this time....will report back soon! Cool place to hang out with friends. Check them out!

This bar is a fun, place to go with friends for good cocktails at reasonable prices. The staff is knowledgable and nice. There's also a little board where you can buy drinks and leave them for someone to claim later! Love the bushwacker!

Lou's Pub & Package Store is a Birmingham institution. It's a must see and must do hometown watering hole for the young and old alike. Nestled in Lakeview near most of the college bars, it's an unlikely find for those of us who have moved past the "sunrise committee" days of our college years. You can get a good drink, take a seat and enjoy some conversations with the bartenders, patrons or friends. While you're there, purchase some booze for later. Why not? It's a pub AND package store. Long story short, you'd be hard-pressed to find another place like Lou's Pub & Package Store.

    Happy Saturday!

Parking is manageable, but you'll need to find parking either in front or to the side of the restaurant. When you walk in it has the feel of a polished, upscale pub. We were seated and immediately ordered the bacon burger (which comes with a 1/2 a pound of ground beef with provolone and bacon). I also would recommend adding grilled onions to the burger and upgrading the fries to pub fries (seasoned fries topped with shaven Parmesan, mozzarella, and chopped bacon). The peppercorn ranch that is especially good and tied everything together. If you are looking for a craft burger spot in the heart of Tuscaloosa, I can't say enough good things about this place and it's absolutely worth checking out.

For food I ordered the chicken club and wife got the fish and chips. The club was good not amazing. Both the sandwich and fries were a little too salt heavy. The fish and chips were ok. Not the best but not bad. Again fries little to salt heavy. I'd go back if someone really wanted to eat there but wouldn't choose this place.

They have long community tables as well as the most cozy tucked away booth for a group as well as rooftop seating. This is really great space for groups or even just you and a friend. Or, even if you want to go grab a bite and a beer after work there's a long bar you can sit at, too. The vibe is very laid-back, but also trendy which I love and the food is phenomenal. Last night I got the double burger and the bun was perfectly buttered and toasted, and the two patties with the cheese was super juicy. It does have a black pepper aïoli on it, which the pepper flavoring is definitely prominent, but it was still very good. I really love the fact that they do Fresh house cut french fries. It's really about the details! They are very known for their corn dog, just trust me, it's super fun. But everything I've ordered is always very good, they used to have the best lamb burger in town and I still dream about it! I also really appreciate that they have an extensive list of drink options from homemade unique cocktails to beer to wine and nonalcoholic beers and mocktails. There is something for everyone. They also have a lot of specials during the week as well as other activities like trivia on Wednesday nights. Their location will be moving in the beginning of 2025 but go check this place out!

Soup changes daily and this day was chickpea and chorizo. Nothing life changing about it but it wasn't bad. We walked into a small, dark, crowded dive bar and ordered amongst several other people after waiting in line shoulder to shoulder with other customers. I say this not to complain (because with a crowd like this on a random weekday, they're obviously doing something right) but to take your kids in car seats (‍) with caution. Crowds in small spaces stress me out and it would have been even worse if we'd had the boys with us. I'd also highly suggest going on a day when you can sit outside. There's very minimal seating inside. They do have a lovely, spacious patio that also feels like a garden with plenty of trees for shade. However, they make it clear they don't want dogs there. Parking was horrific. A narrow street with cars on each side. We barely fit through it. If there wouldn't have been an open spot on it, I'm not sure what the next option is because I didn't see anywhere else and this street only held so many. I would dine here again because the sandwiches were fresh and delicious and they obviously know what they're doing! I was pleasantly surprised that they had prosecco as well. Just heed my few warnings and you'll enjoy as well!

Sat at the bar and for the majority of the time i was the only person there. If this is a "brewery" why did they only have two of their own beers on tap? very strange. I noticed what looked like a board that used to list all their own beers on tap that was abandoned and now just a sad white board lists their two beers and a bunch of other standard beers you can get on tap anywhere. Supposedly they have a kitchen? i saw no menu, or kitchen hours, or anything about any food. Bartender only appeared to refill my glass then quickly disappeared into the back room. If you dont want beer they have a very sad hard liquor selection that looks on par with a college kids apartment. The kicker was when closing out on the ipad the tip amounts were defaulted to 25%, 35% or 45%! Very generous amounts for pouring a beer, i decided to leave my own amount for a tip. Trying not to rag on what sounds like a small family run business, but wow that was bad.
