My husband and I stopped in one evening as we were both hungry and wanting a good burger. When we arrived we were seated right away, and our server (Eon) was fantastic, offering great recommendations and very friendly. We started off with the burrata plate which was excellent, and plenty to share! We decided to share an entree, mainly because we knew wanted a dessert! We of course went with the Anvil Burger, it was excellent! The meat was cooked perfect, an excellent hamburger bun and fresh veggies for the burger all paired to make the burger hit the spot! Finally we dug into dessert, which was a bread pudding and it finished off the meal perfectly! The Anvil offers no fuss and is a business casual vibe but also a great place to watch the game with friends, check them out if you're in the area!
We loved our visit to The Anvil. We came to watch a little football (aka, soccer) with a pint and ended up finding a true English pub right here in Birmingham (AL). We ordered the Thai wings, burrata, and fish and chips, and everything was delicious. The wings had great flavor, the burrata was fresh and a nice change of pace, and the fish and chips were exactly what you want from a proper pub. I had a British hard cider but they also offer a nice selection of local brews. We brought our dog and sat outside, which made it even better. The patio has comfy couches and lounge chairs with TVs for watching games. Inside there is bar seating and tables, which is nice year round. It's great for watching a game, looking for a unique brunch experience, or just a casual night out. The Anvil Pub and Grill brings a bit of Britain to the Ham. We will definitely be back.
Stopped by on a Saturday at 2 PM during Alabama game so I had the place almost to myself and it was so nice. Sat outside on the outdoor patio, and the weather was perfect. I ordered the seasonal house salad, which had pecans, apples, apricot chutney, herb, goat cheese, and lemon vinaigrette. I also tried the roast chicken pot pie, which was a little misleading because it was collard greens with Kaneka sausage and a puff pastry on top, but it did have roast chicken inside and it was creamy and tasted great. I got a toffee pudding to go. Next time I want to try the scotch egg and the fish and chips! I've had their cheese plate previously and it was also nice!

Food was good, hubby had fish and chips while I went with the Chicken Tikka. A bit odd that the mushy peas were served cold! With a bit more attention to detail in the kitchen, this place would be wonderful! The fried okra pods were delicious as were the chips! Our waiter was what we've come to expect, okay and relatively efficient. My hubby had to flag down the host to refill his coke, even though our waiter walked by several times, she didn't have an eye for seeing what was needed. I asked for an IPA, and she brought it to me, but didn't tell me what one it was, and they have several on tap. We will probably come back, but this time sit at the bar and order apps!

Great thin Saratoga type chips complemented it perfectly. Then I got the burger and chips (fries) which were all very good and hefty portion. They have some rarely found English beers you don't typically find in this area. I enjoyed the Tennent's Lager which is made in Scotland. Nice selection of euro, domestic, and local taps with a great bar. They also have a nice section of outside seating on good weather days. Sad that it took me this long to try this place but now we'll be more frequent visitors.

Absolutely amazing not only does the food look gorgeous here it tastes fantastic. I am not sure why they did not have more people there eating breakfast because I feel like this place is a great find breakfast wise. We have not been able to eat there for lunch or dinner yet so cannot speak on the other food but this is far above the other breakfast choices locally on Highway 280. Staff was super sweet and atmosphere is fantastic. We will be back.

My first impression was that this was a lot fancier than I thought it would be. The dinner menu looked great. Hubby got the fish and chips. He let me try it and wow, that was some good fish and chips. It is not something I would normally order but I would get theirs. Very crispy, fish was flavorful and not dried out. I got the Thai salad with pork belly and shrimp. I was nervous about ordering this because it seems weird, right? It was fabulous!! The Thai salad had a little heart that was just right. Every bite was delicious. I would order this again and again. I had leftovers and we were going to be out for a couple of hours and I really wanted to take it home. They were super nice and gave me a bag full of ice so I could put it in my cold bag in the car and have it for lunch the next day. Service was great. Can't wait to go back and eat here again!!
One of Birmingham's best kept secrets? Quite possibly. It's pretty far out Hwy 280 in the Lee Branch shopping center, but you could easily be in a London pub. The only think that fell a little short was the burger. It was over seasoned with salt but was otherwise well done.
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the welcoming atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, and a varied British-American menu. The comfortable patio seating is also appreciated.

I'd never been back in this shopping center before, there's a lot of gems back here! My dad is a major fan of The Anvil because they show the English soccer (fútbol) games he wants to see. It's a plus that the food and vibes are good. Dad got the thai wings, which looked delicious (he did not share). I tried the burrata, which was ok. The star of the show was the fish and chips. Really good fry on those, I'll certainly come back. The patio was lovely for a springtime lunch. read more
Great atmosphere for soccer games. Even when they were incredibly busy, service was quick. I was shocked at how well the food was prepared considering how jam packed it was. The fish and chips were crispy and served with all the fixings. The chicken tikka wrap had amazing flavor as someone who is a chicken tikka lover. The sausage rolls are a must. The chicken pie was quite good here. Would definitely recommend. The inside was densely packed with chicken, spinach, and artichoke. The pie crust was crisp and layered properly, and the gravy added the proper amount of creaminess and saltiness without being too heavy in density and flavor, which would then cover up all the flavor of the pie itself. read more
Food was great! We got the fish and chips on the brunch menu! Fish was cooked very well, fries were okay but I'm not a fan of chunky fries, fries could have been salted more, homemade tartar sauce was good but could have had more tang to it! But man was the fish cooked well! Place was super clean! Fast service! I'll be back! read more

The Anvil is our favorite local spot! The chef constantly has a new special and we almost always try it out. The tuna dip is a favorite of ours and we always order it. The atmosphere is great for brunch or dinner and feels nice while also being a casual spot. read more

First time to The Anvil Pub and Grill. Didn't love it and didn't hate it. Hubby and I got the hummus to start with, it was good, and then we shared The Roasted Chicken Pie. Presented beautifully but a little dry even with the gravy. Cocktails were yummy... our waiter was awesome... Great service!! We will definitely be back to give it another try even if it's just for the Cocktails!! read more
I heard this was a British-style pub, so in my head, I was expecting futbol on the TV with Manchester United jerseys all around, Ted Lasso style. This is not what The Anvil is. The Anvil is more of an upscale, calm, date night, kind of bar with chill 80s music, a nice outside eating area. The British pub bit comes in with food such as the Bangers and Mash and the Scotch Egg, the international beers and the dart board. read more

After an early movie we walked over to relax on a coolish night. Outside dining was our choice, can I say a Good choice. We ordered drinks and 2 appetizers. Tomato soup, comes with a grilled cheese sandwich. A summer time treat, let's do it again type of good. The second appetizer was new to the menu, New England fish cakes served on top of white & yellow corn, red onion, cilantro relish a remoulade or aioli that brought it all together. Another summer classic. Dion was there enough to take care of our needs. This place is getting better all the time. read more

Sitting at the bar is our thing if it is just the two of us. Their bar is huge, wide and beautiful. The two bar tenders were very helpful and sweet. We decided to just have drink and nibble, so we ordered the cheese board. It was the perfect way to start our date night before we went somewhere else to eat. We have eaten here before and love it but we wanted to hop around town and not be full. Food here is always great. They bring a taste of London to Birmingham. read more
Anvil has a wonderful patio and the staff is always friendly. Cocktails are amazing and change throughout the season as does the entree menu. I was so disappointed in the meal my server recommended. The butternut squash risotto was so bland and there were only six flavorless shrimp. The burger is amazing and always hits the spot! read more
The anvil is absolutely fantastic. We've stopped in a couple times for meals and attended their saturday afternoon tea yesterday and loved it! Located in the Doug Baker shopping area, The Anvil is a refined British pub with a menu that includes seasonal ingredients and is influenced by different cuisines from across the globe. We've tried different things- the fish and chips is EXCELLENT, with perfectly fried, crispy fish and well seasoned chips. They have an afternoon tea one weekend a month, and the reservations book up quickly. The tea itself was just perfect. Located in a private room on the side of the pub, with white cloth covered tables, delicate china, classical music playing on one television and rolling pictures of the British countryside on the other, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everything was delicious, but I think our favorites were the salmon and dill sandwiches, lemon tartlets, and a bowl of whipped herb butter to spread on our muffins. We each received a complimentary glass of champagne and had a variety of teas on the table to choose from. It was a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back!! Tried it a couple weeks ago, and went right back the following weekend. Great place for drinks and food for sports game or just social gathering. Great cocktails, good brunch menu items, and plenty of seating. First time around, I had the fish and chips. Honesty, it did not blow my mind and I did not have it again the following visit. However, the anvil burger... oh my, this is one delicious and perfectly cooked (medium rare) burger with melted gruyere. To die for. Totally worth the try for all comers. My friend had the breakfast sandwich with their housemade sausage, and said that it was also worth a try for all. Overall, aside from the fish and chips, I thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails, burger and service from here. Will be back again! read more
