Well well well, a place I never knew that I needed to be at for some live entertainment. Yelp partnered with this business for an event and man- o -man, am I happy that I received an opportunity to experience this Birmingham hidden gem. Such an inviting and comfortable vibe when you walk through the door. The bar was a vibe, the bartender was a vibe and the drinks seemed appealing. But the magic happened in the lounge area with the great entertainment. Loved Sunday Story, got me looking at the calendar for upcoming events. Brewery # 428 I have a hard time calling this a brewery, it's more of a small bar in a strip mall. While they do brew their own beer, all be it 2 of them, they mostly just have guest beers on tap. I ordered one of their beers, but they were out so i go the other one. I got the Hazy Plan, and it was actually pretty solid considering I was not expecting much. The place was pretty packed, so they are doing something right. It just wasn't my vibe and with only 2 beers of their own, it doesn't seem like a brewery. read more

I had to update my review to reflect my recent experience. True and Red bike coffee had a collaborative event on 04/26/26. It was a crawfish boil & plant sell. I was thrilled since I had never been to Red bike coffee and I was curious to see the plants at True. After I placed my crawfish order at the coffee shop, I walked over to True to grab a beer. They never have the best selection but I got a 9.82 two hearted IPA on draft. That's oddly high for a draft beer but whatever! I got annoyed because the lady working swiped my card without asking me if I wanted to leave my tab open or not. Good thing I asked bc she had left it open. We all know an overnight open tab most times result in a fee. I don't think an assumption here was appropriate. I finished up my crawfish and closed that tab and left. I wasn't getting anything else to drink from here. I didn't appreciate the weirdness. I don't know if I'll be back here.... read more

I was super confused as to why the good reviews were not lining up with what i was seeing, but upon further digging all the good reviews were from 5+ years ago. Sat at the bar and for the majority of the time i was the only person there. If this is a "brewery" why did they only have two of their own beers on tap? very strange. I noticed what looked like a board that used to list all their own beers on tap that was abandoned and now just a sad white board lists their two beers and a bunch of other standard beers you can get on tap anywhere. Supposedly they have a kitchen? i saw no menu, or kitchen hours, or anything about any food. Bartender only appeared to refill my glass then quickly disappeared into the back room. If you dont want beer they have a very sad hard liquor selection that looks on par with a college kids apartment. The kicker was when closing out on the ipad the tip amounts were defaulted to 25%, 35% or 45%! Very generous amounts for pouring a beer, i decided to leave my own amount for a tip. Trying not to rag on what sounds like a small family run business, but wow that was bad. read more

Popped up on a search when I was looking for dinner in the area. It's a spot for locals and drinks which is great for those folks, but don't go here if you're looking for food. There's not even a menu at all & the offerings are literally one type of hot dog that was maybe premade? We found out about True Story Brewing after seeing an advertisement about their Arts and Oddities market. I used to live in the neighborhood, so my husband and I decided to visit in part to see a new brewery and in part as a trip down memory lane. The Arts and Oddities market was interesting. They were selling unique pieces of art as well as different types of crafts. From the outside, and when you first walk in the brewery, it seems like a tiny place. If you keep walking back, you'll see there is a large side room and a nice back patio. So no worries if the front bar seating is filled. It was interesting because they serve their own beers as well as other breweries beers. Because of this, I guarantee you'll find something that you'll like. The bartender was super friendly and nice. We appreciated that he took the time to explain the different beers and he let us know about the food they served. Now, let me tell you about the food!! We only stopped here to have a beer and check out the place. My spouse saw that it had live entertainment once in awhile so he wanted to see what that was about It is really a nice little brewery. That doesn't look like much from the parking lot. Nice outside patio too! The service wasn't stellar, but we enjoyed the place anyway. Please check this place out. Thought there was nothing to write home about regarding the location. One little row of seats at the bar and then the lonely expansion area for lunch. But looking at the photos on Yelp, I see a really cool looking back area! This is definitely a place where locals know to go, and I think their nighttime scene must be really hopping. With three of us coming in for lunch and nowhere to sit at the bar, a friendly guy even offered to scooch down so we'd each have a seat. And. The hotdogs and salad we enjoyed for lunch were both tasty and affordable. Their True Story dark beer on draft (wish I remembered the name of it) was so yummy that we asked if they bottled it for sale to go. (Sadly, they didn't, but we were just happy that somewhere in town offered such a great dark beer on tap.) Not a ton of beers on tap, but a solid representation of each TYPE. True Story is a hidden gem. The beer is great. The hot dogs are my fav in Bham. Tues night's Jazz Jam is Blue Note NYC quality. I hear there is also Comedy on Wed and Blues on Fri. If those nights are anything like Tues nights they will be top notch. read more

This place is a hidden gem that I highly recommend everyone visiting at least once. The first time my husband and I visited we tried The Luchador and Chili Cheese Hot Dog. The staff was really nice and happy to see new faces. The small draft list is also very good and we sampled everything they had. My favorite was the Saison. True story has lots of great food options, but I went with the pimento cheese hotdog. The atmosphere is great, there's a lot of games, fun hats, and sports on the tv. Hunter was working and he was very polite and helpful. Overall, it was a wonderful experience the hotdog was fantastic. read more

Friday at 7pm and the place was DEAD and filthy. 2 guys at the bar and 2 people at a table in the other room. True Story Brewing is a true find. Went there on Saturday around lunch time, had a fabulous IPA and a delicious teriyaki shrimp taco. Interesting owner and clientele, good camaraderie without feeling pressed. I enjoyed the original art, too.The vibe is fun and relaxed. I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the experience.
