Seriously?!? if the restaurant is going to upcharge for the extras then the customer should receive what they paid for. Not the first time quality control seems to be an issue. Parking can be a bit crazy on Sunday mornings when it's super-busy, so be sure to pack your patience. A Solid Bagel Stop in Lewes I've eaten at Surf Bagel before, so on the way home from a recent business trip I decided to stop again and grab breakfast to go. I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you're stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot. The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it. I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months. Do yourself a favor and go slightly further up Route 1 to the Midway location. The Lewes location is filthy (don't even try using the restrooms and I have literally never seen am employee wipe off a single table), the managers are incredibly unfriendly (all they do is check their phones constantly and yell out order numbers without ever picking up their heads to acknowledge or thank the person picking up the order) and there is seemingly a problem with every order being made incorrectly (at which point you need to speak to one of the managers mentioned and be told that you probably ordered incorrectly instead of simply saying, "Sorry, we'll redo the order for you." Now on to the Midway location: always clean, bright, incredibly friendly cashiers and management, who always go out of their way to be helpful (the exact opposite of Lewes). The food also seems to taste much better at this location--it's a much nicer presentation, instead of being sloppily put together than at Lewes. read more

Love coming to Surf Bagel anytime we are in town. They have the best bagels and burritos! I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel, lox and cream cheese with capers or the beach burrito. The beach burrito has avocado, spinach, egg and cheese. It's a big portion. Sometimes I can save half a bagel for another meal. The kids like the chocolate chip bagel. I was trying Surf Bagel for the first time and ordered two steak egg and cheese bagels and hashbrown for my husband and I for takeout. We do not eat pork and it was really disappointing that my husband's sandwich had small pieces of bacon on it near to the steak and they forgot his hash brown. Pretty disappointing. read more

I had a sausage, egg and cheese on Egg bagel which was hearty and satisfying. We enjoyed our breakfast at one of the booths inside Surf Bagel and we were plenty entertained watching patrons come and go. Most people dashed in to pick up their call ahead orders and others placed an order to go. In addition to bagels, Surf Bagels also offers breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches and smoothies. There was no line but still a plethora of offerings -- bagels, bagel sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, and other baked goods. My daughter and I visited twice while on vacation to pick up breakfast. They have a nice little patio seating area outside that you can enjoy.
