I wanted to have a sandwich for lunch at a cafe type place. Excellent choices for soups, salads and sandwiches. Self serve coffee and with plenty of choices. Water is served without having to ask. That is a plus. I had the Maryland crab soup, with a turkey tomato club on whole wheat sandwich. It was very wholesome and fresh, with ripe tomato. Super attentive wait staff. Most aspects of our meal, but not all, were good. I will start with the GOOD. While others have complained about slow service, we arrived at 8:30am, perhaps a bit before the morning rush, and were quickly seated and our orders taken promptly. My friends each ordered an omelet, they were ample in size and well prepared. I ordered eggs, bacon and home fries. The eggs were fine and the bacon was a generous portion, made better by the fact that they came out extra crispy as I had requested. So now, the NOT SO GOOD: The home fries were almost inedible, the cook had added so much Season-All or similar substance to the home fries that the salt content was excessive. The home fries also appeared to have been overly processed and purchased frozen and pre-cut, they did not appear to have been made from fresh potatoes. The coffee was also just ok, perhaps next time I would pay more for a specialty coffee drink. SUMMARY: the restaurant has pleasant outdoor seating, and reasonable prices. The omelets and the bacon were both quite good. I just wouldn't order the home fries again, or regular drip coffee. read more

We arrived at Arena's restaurant around noon and were greeted immediately. There was plenty of seats available outside so that is where we went. Our waitress, Kat, arrived shortly after we sat down to ask if we needed any drinks. I had a Bloody Mary and it was great! Kat returned shortly and was very knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered our food and it came out to us quickly. The food was wonderful. I had a half BLT and wow, that's a lot of bacon, wonderful! The sandwiches and salads were excellent. The food is excellent and reasonably priced for the large portions you get. Everyone is always kind, pie sever Dayne was personable and helpful. The ambiance is nice as you can sit inside, or outside on a nice day. My wife and I like going for breakfast or lunch. Great crushes too! I had a really good grilled chicken wrap, the local hot sauce from The Delaware Sauce company is a nice touch too, with loads of flavor. Stopped by on a whim for a weekday lunch. Nice selection of sandwiches and we settled on a Philly cheesesteak and a turkey club sandwich (sandwiches come with chips - the up charge for fries was $4). Portions are large and we ended up each taking half a sandwich home (you can split a meal for an extra $3.99). The cheesesteak was pretty good - lots of meat and nice flavor. Added mayo, lettuce, and tomato. The turkey club is not a traditional club - this one had only two slices of bread (not toasted) with turkey piled high, jack cheese, avocado, and arugula. While I don't mind arugula, I did most of it off because the taste was overpowering for the sandwich. Service was excellent and all the staff worked together. We ended up splitting a slice of chocolate mousse cake which was delicious. The menu has many daily specials and we plan to return to try the burgers and wings. Great atmosphere and excellent music. I ordered the crab cake sandwich, always fresh and delicious. Comes with chips and a pickle or you can upgrade to French fries if you choose to do so. My mom ordered the crab dip and it was superb!!! comes with bread and fresh tortilla chips. Our first meal in Rehoboth beach on vacation after a long drive before check in is the Arena. Arena's started at a 3, then dropped to a 2, then went up to a 4. Allow me to explain. We found this place on Yelp while in need of breakfast food on a Sunday in a land where apparently tons of stuff is closed on Sundays (spoiled New Yorker chiming in!). Arena's is located in a cute community in Lewes where if I ever wanted a house in Delaware is where I would buy one. Anywho. We were quickly seated at a high top table and given menus. The breakfast menu is pretty straight to the point. Omelettes, create your own omelette, create your own breakfast sandwich, griddle specialties, etc. I decided for a drink to get an iced coffee and my boyfriend got the 16 oz. cappuccino. My iced coffee was great but his cappuccino was only filled halfway in a rather large cup. The rest was foam on top of foam. We complained to our waitress (Emma) and she apologized and made a new one on the house. Next we ordered our food. I had the popeye omelette with spinach, tomato, and feta. The boyfriend had a make your own omelette. 10 minutes came and went, no big deal. Another waitress brought over my omelette and a breakfast sandwich. We explained we had two omelettes with one in her hands being correct. She took both away and we twiddled our thumbs and waited some more. Emma came over to profusely apologize and say she accidentally wrote sandwich on my boyfriend's order instead of omelette. Oof. Five minutes later both orders came out correct (finally). My omelette was delicious and I love that you can get either hashbrowns or tots on the side (the latter are delicious!). My boyfriend loved his creation and we were both happy and full but still irked by the fact our orders had been so messed up. Emma came over again to say she was comping everything on the meal that was screwed up. We were never going to ask for anything taken off, we were only going to complain, but Emma went above and beyond to make sure we left happy. Sure enough the bill came and it was only $10.50 since we were only charged for my omelette and iced coffee. We gave her a hefty tip since she really did turn the whole experience around. Every year for 6 consecutive days over the past 7 years we have stopped for breakfast at Arena's. Parking: limited in the front but endless parking around the back. Seating: ~44 inside and another 20 or so outside seating WiFi: Got it! TV: 3 with news or sports typically on Service: The service over the years has been consistent. Get Donald or Liz and the service is kicked up to another level. Love the seeing the same faces over the years. Food: Bacon is always on point and the eggs are made perfectly (no matter what you ask for). Special requests are accommodated and the turnaround is quick. Coffee (flavored/gourmet) is always delicious. Cleanliness: everything is wiped down and swept up regularly. Price: Fair. You get a great value for the price. I've alway been a huge fan of Arenas. I frequently go to the location in Milford but today I made a mistake. Today was my first time trying out the Lewes location and it was absolutely awful. The waitress we had was extremely rude to my family and I. I believe her name was Kitt. I am not a fan of Kitt. It took far longer than it should have to prepare 6 sandwiches. We were the only customers in the restaurant the entire time so I really don't know what the hold up was. I currently work as a chef and have been a server in the past. I am so disappointed. In the food quality and service. I ordered the "soup of the day" which was cream of crab. It looks like chicken gravy, it tastes like chicken gravy. It just happened to have a few scraps of crab meat. Wow just wow. So disappointed. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

We discovered Java Beach last time we were in Lewes, purely by accident while seeking an urgent caffeine fix. (We have four kids. 'Nuff said.) We happened upon the place around Sunday brunch time and it was fantastic! Even though the place was hopping, we squeezed our small clan into some chairs and ate incredibly delicious buttermilk pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, and coffees. On returning to Lewes this summer, it seems that Java Beach's owners have re-named the place to "Arena's", to link up with Arena's deli and bar in Rehoboth, which apparently are under the same ownership. This threw us for a loop initially but it's basically the same place, with the same menu (and the wait staff in the same Java Beach T-shirts!). Anyway, Arena's is the best diner-cum-bagel joint masquerading as a coffee bar that I've ever visited. Breakfast food is served all day -- and they still have those fantastic buttermilk pancakes, which our kids loved! -- and their sandwich selection is fantastic. I had Arena's Famous Italian Stallion, with balsamic vinegar soaked into a really soft Italian sub, while the missus had a breakfast wrap with egg, spinach, cheese, and tomatoes. The staff are very accommodating. For example, the kids wanted hot chocolates but one of 'em has a milk allergy. No problem! They offered to make that one with water. They were all delicious, and not sickeningly sweet. Arena's is now going to be a regular stop for us in Lewes. In fact, I think we may go there for breakfast tomorrow. Food was great. Small town feel, tucked in a nice little neighborhood setting. It was too cold to dine outside but I imagine when the weather is nice it would be enjoyable to eat all this delicious food out in the patio area. Portion size was perfect. I'm not sure what's happening here. This used to be a great restaurant with great breakfast. All of us were severely disappointed this visit. We're not sure if they're using powdered eggs or a combination of regular and powdered eggs but the omelet was tasteless. I ordered the Popeye and it had three pieces of spinach and an eighth of a tomato in it. The feta cheese was not bad. My DD ordered chocolate chip pancakes. I guess she didn't see that they were 'rubberized' in the description. She bounced them across the floor. Tater tots were cold, coffee here is ok. Arena's in the Village at 5 Points has become a go-to stop in the mornings while we are at the beach. Much like every other place near the DE Shore Points, this place moves at its own speed. However, that does not take away from how great the breakfasts and coffee are. It's a solid place to stop in the morning and get a caffeine fix, and they offer a great refill discount if you bring your own travel mug. Usually, if we're getting coffee and sandwiches to go, the stop can be about 15 minutes. If the place is a little empty, we like to stick around and enjoy a nice sit down breakfast. I mean, tots Dude. The most delicious, fried, crispy tots since your grade school lunchroom. The breakfast sandwiches are greasy and delicious. I usually go scrapple egg and cheese on a bagel. But the wraps and other selections are great as well. Don't sit in the dining room or outside if there are more than 5 or 6 tables set, unless you have the patiences and time to hang out for a bit. There are usually only 2 servers, and things can back up quickly. We usually get to go, as we're on our way to the beach. Best time to stop in for quick service is pre 8:30 am.
